Heard something like you're supposed to stay on the east side of the river too? Is that right or bull?
>cultural shitFisherman's Bastion and the church right next to it. Parliament building tour if you can. Take the river cruise so you can see both lit up at night. Central Market Hall for shoppingEat all the goulash you can. That shit is so addicting>best way to get from airport to downtownthere are train stations just outside of the airport but idk if you need a cab to get there.>dive bars to meet drunken travelling slagsnot sure>any other shit to knowI only spent two nights there so this is all the info i have>Heard something like you're supposed to stay on the east side of the river too? Is that right or bull?that is true. Most of the good stuff is on the east side
>>2833632>Heard something like you're supposed to stay on the east side of the river too? Is that right or bull? The west side (Buda) has the castle complex and the liberty statue. The east side (Pest) has everything else. Stay in Pest.
>>2833631>cultural shitDanube river cruise to see what interests you in generalStephen CathedralCastle District (in the way from bridge->Gelert bath you will elevator/stairs from sidewalk to castle, make sure to walk it, some great gardens there and great views)in Castle district check out underground cave labyrinth too (funny Vlad the impaler moment there in "catacombs")Gelert Baths (bioshock like thermal baths, do the walk ice-cold water-> sauna -> 40/45 degrees hot water)against the Gelert baths there is castle in the cave, sacred type of placeNational Museum or National Art Museum, also in castle district (loved those paintings)Great Synagogue if you want to get wallet raped (dont go there)desu i was with parents and had to compromise on itinerary to satisfy everyone. I have not checked every thing that interested me i would go to Budapest once again desu>>2833631>>dive bars to meet drunken travelling slagsinstant fogasfucking tons of normies (browns as well) but you will find sluts you want there. Lots of diaspora, good vietnamese or chinese restaurants (i can recommend chinese want that is close in intersection between district VII and District VIII where there is big metro entry intersection, close to ibis hotel)
>>2833631>>2833676i was not able to see Parliament - no tickets left. If you want to see it, you have to buy ticket in some advance
>>2833631I'll be going there for New Years, so it's too early for me to say, but I read that there's these cool things called ruin bars, themed bars built around ruins, and they seem pretty cool. There's a communist themed one, so hope to find some commie girls
Thanks for all the thoughts anonsIn particular:>>2833676Thanks for the tips here>(dont go there)kek don't worry about that one>instant fogasinteresting>>2833677will have to look in to this>>2833682"Commie girls" tend to be insufferable, tattooed up morons that would get labour camped immediately as soon as the revolution they think they want had consolidated power. So, yes, perfect type of whore to pick up in a bar I suppose. Good point.
>>2833682I'll be there for new year as well, hopefully we can see snow
Have anyone ever used the Dayspalm premium package at Szechenyi Bath? It says there are private changing rooms but what about lockers? And do I need to book in advance if I am going during Christmas? I would like to use the sauna but I have never used one before. Is there any etiquette I need to know?
>>2833631Is this Putin or Trump posting?
>>2834023kek>>2833631Thermal baths are OP, as are ruin pubs. >>2834021Cant' remember exactly, but IIRC there's options of either:>lockers (with public changing room)>little cabins (where you change on your own)>maybe even premium cabins with a small terrace outside where you can sit and look out at the cool?Fuck knows about reserving in advance. Why not if you know when you'll be there? When you go in, it's like a big stadium with 2 huge pools outside, heated. There'll be old fags playing chess on tables in the pool, people swimming aroud, etc. There's a cafe nearby for booze and food.If you go 'inside' the stadium, there's a series of different jacuzzis, saunas, steam rooms, pools with sulphur, etc, you just walk around.Me and the gf had a 14 hour wait between trains from Belgrade to Poland, and did the following:>check in to a cabin to leave backpacks and shit>chill in heated pool>ruuuuuuuun through the winter weathers into the saunas, etc>ruuuuuuuun back out over to the bar and have a pint>get back in the pool to warm up>repeatDid this for like 8 hours, lol.
>>2833645>Central Market Hall for shoppingLol please don't buy anything in there, it's all one big tourist trap. The food is bad and overpriced. Go in and walk around if you want a souvenir overload, otherwise avoid it.>best way to get from airport to downtownthere's a fast-track bus that drops you off in 2 or 3 different spots right in the center, costs like 3 euros.>>2833676>National Museum or National Art Museumthis one is great, then there's the Fine Art Museum on the other side of the river, by the Heroes' Square.>instant fogasthese are good, there's also Szimpla Kert but this one has gotten waaaay too popular, it's just for tourists now, very overpriced.>>2833682>I'll be going there for New YearsYou can do some ice skating by the Heroes' Square, look it up, and from there you can go to the Szechenyi baths to warm upFor anyone interested in the budapest thermal baths, keep in mind Szechenyi is not the only one, there's a whole bunch, all very different. On the Buda side there's two, one is at the foot of the Gellert Hills, the other one is smaller but good vide, Rudas baths. There's a lot of life at night on the bridges, people just walk around or hang out drinking on the chains of the Liberty bridge (in a non-hobo way). Maybe in the winter it's not as fun, but keep it in mind.Margaret Island can be a nice walk in the warmer months, in the winter it's a bit dead.
Thanks for the replies anons
>>2833682>there's these cool things called ruin bars,Yes, there are different ones and definitely worth checking out. It's like a maze of underground bunkers, and in each bunker there's a different theme, sometimes with live music
Is Getyourguide legit? They have good reviews but reddit says they are all scammers who cancel the tour last minute and ruin your trips.
>>2835418>They have good reviewsthey have good reviews where? Yelp, Trustpilot and similar places are all fake, they're basically a paid service where you can choose which reviews stay and which get deleted. In this case, I would trust reddit more than them. Though also keep in mind, nobody goes on reddit to post about a good experience they had with a service, they just go to bitch about the bad stuff.
>>2835431I want a a tour visiting around Budapest main attractions and one for tasting all the local food. Where should I find one if they are all fake?
>>2835433Just book an airbnb experience and stop being a crying little faggot.
>>2833631several famous thermal bathes for relaxingone near the danube - Rudas - has an old part which is an original turkish hamam from 1566, and there is also has a hot pool outside with a fine look on the river, which is nice in the late evening
>>2835869are they gay?
>>2835873they can be
>>2835418>>2835433why do you need a tour for Budapest, it's not a hard city to deal with on your own unless you get involved with gypsy bullshit
>>2835418I've used GetYourGuide and I didn't have any problems. Probably depends on the tour company putting on the guide though.
>>2835934>>2836750I just want a guide to take me through all the main attractions and explain stuff without me having to plan for it myself. I also want to do food tour guide and taste the local restaurants instead of lining up in New York Cafe like all the tourists. I was baited into eating trdelnik in Prague and was ashamed to find out it wasn't even Czech. Paid nearly 20 bucks for a scam
>>2836777I think that if you can find a legit tour company on there, you'd be fine. I used them a couple of times this year and didn't have issues.
>>2836777Cafe Gerbaud is almost at the same level as NY Cafe but with a bit less crowds, try it out. I think Gerbaud started the trend of french patisserie in Budapest decades ago. Cafe Spinoza is also really nice, super comfy and they sometimes have live music
>>2836900I tried Grand Central Cafe during my short stop last time. The chicken prapika was so good I ate 2 portions. Don’t know if it is a local spot but even during peak lunch hour, it was only half filled unlike NY. I will try the other cafes this time.
>>2836903Yeah, I was there as well and it was lovely, a nice Belle Epoque cafe like the Cafe Central in Vienna. I understand it's gotten too touristy for some people, that's why I was offering alternatives. Another really nice one is Lotz Terem, on Andrassi utca, but I think it's closed now. You go into the bookstore and then all the way up to the top floor.https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g274887-d2295984-Reviews-Book_Cafe_Lotz_Terem-Budapest_Central_Hungary.html
>>2836906that one is permanently closed on google map. Where do you go for langos and other local treat like the hortobagi crepe? Langos is really common and I couldn't find any hortobagi
>>2837063the best lángos' are sold at little stalls outside the center, like Krumplis lángos in the pedestrian underpass beneath Flórián tér in the Óbuda district of the city, or Lángosozó in the 15th district (pic related)for authentic Hortobágyi meant pancakes, try Gettó Gulyás or Lecsó Gyorsétterem
>>2835869if you want to avoid tourist crowds, go to local-favorite Veli bej in Buda, just a few minutes' walk from Margaret Bridge. it's a cozy Turkish era bath with five pools, steam baths, saunas and a jacuzzi.
I'm going to be there next week. No idea what to do except for the typical tourist locations.
>>2839989Party at the ruin bars
>>2839991Too autistic and shy for that
>>2840050Then learn not to be
The architecture is pretty cool with the museums but otherwise it’s kinda shit>language is fucking alien>the english spoken is mediocre at best>food is alright but nothing special>people act like genuine cunts>everyone is trying to rip you off like a bunch of africansMaybe it’s better if you party but i’m not much of a partier. I’d rather visit fucking Oslo
>>2840058Don’t all euros act like cunts because they aren’t being tipped by non-Americans? I have never seen a hospitable euro outside of tourist traps aimed at Americans
>>2840203I’ve found most to be alright but hungarians will yell at you for the most little of shit and in their alien gibberish too. They’re like wannabe germans
>>2839989here you go friend>go caving at Szemlő-hegyi barlang or Pál-völgyi barlang>visit the Aquincum Museum and explore the nearby Roman ruins in Óbuda>take the Zugliget chairlift to Budapest's highest peak and enjoy the view from the Elizabeth Lookout>check out the Pinball Museum for some retro games>explore the city's art nouveau heritage>have a dip at one of the lesser known baths (Veli Bej, Csillaghegyi Árpád Fürdő, Dandár)>take a stroll among the historic tombs and mausoleums of the Fiume Road Graveyard>catch a concert at A38 Ship or Akvárium Klub>walk around the Castle District and try to get into as many courtyards as you can>if you're into Bauhaus architecture, visit the Napraforgó street housing estate
>>2841034Any ideas on what to do on Jan 1 when everything will be closed?
>>2841034Thanks for these tips, will look into it. >catch a concertI'm actually going to see some post rock band from Japan on November 24.
>>2841127most of the baths, restaurants and national museums will be open on New Year's Day. you can also go ice skating at the City Park Ice Rink, spend a nice afternoon at Budapest Zoo, or just simply get drunk on mulled wine at one of the many Christmas markets around the city
>>2841139>I'm actually going to see some post rock band from Japan on November 24.nice, Mono are a great bandif you're still here on the 27th, consider going to the Deep Forest concert on A38, it should be amazing
>>2841143I'm seeing Swans in Berlin on November 27. >>2841034>take the Zugliget chairliftIsn't it too cold and windy this time of the year?
>>2841147>Isn't it too cold and windy this time of the year?not that much of a problem if you just layer up properly. the chairlift itself is safe and reliable and it's a nice ride up/down the hill>I'm seeing Swans in Berlin on November 27.lucky!
>>2841153It's been raining for 2 days, finally managed to ride the chairlift. Froze my ass off, but it was worth it.
>>2842431good call doing it yesterday, anon - the chairlift was shut down all day today because of the weather
>be me>travelling with some girlfriends>we book a river cruise in budapest>supposed to be real fancy, dinner and drinks>im wearing a suit and tie, theyre wearing nice dresses>we get to the boat>not fancy at all, just one of the normal river cruises>everyone else is dressed casual except for us>oh well, at least we got a free glass of champagne each>new dress shoes hurt my heels so have to take them off to walk>after the cruise spend the night walking around budapest with no shoes onnice city and nice people but that was not a fun night
>>2843100>getting btfo by shoes
Tipped my fedora to /ourguy/ a few days ago.
>>2843480That park in the winter, with a thin layer of snow, can be really beautiful. One good and bad thing about Budapest you discovered?
>>2843252>by shoesamateur, yup.Travel = walking and standing more than usual. Make sure they can handle that, or don't buy them/never pack them. At least have good sporty insoles inside of dress shoes. OP, there was a cool "Hospital in the Rock" literal time capsule of a museum underground in Buda. Also, must do the Terror House for the cool EBM music and design inside of that museum. Do at least 1 turkish bath, and if you can plan your trip next time, the Buda Wine Festival is a hoot, and you get sloshed, hear gypsy music and eat Langos as you sample every wine. I liked going to as many cafes as possible and working my way through typical desserts. Also near the Bastion, my hotel, the hilton, go stick your head in the door, they had a glass floor in the lobby to show you the ruins of the monastery under the foundation. Mathias church had a pretty altar. If you are lucky, the precursor to the harpsichord is in some restaurants for their live music.
>>2843682>One good and bad thing about Budapest you discovered?Good: lots of cuties Bad: couldn't find a gfBut in all seriousness, I was positively surprised how walkable the streets are, how decently clean they are. Despite some occasional hobos lurking around trash bins. I like walking. All I do while traveling is basically autistically walk around the city. Gosling says «I drive» in that one movie. Well, I walk. Bad thing? Some notable landmarks (St. Stephen's Basilica for example, or the Liberty square or Shoes on the Danube) could be lit better in the evening I guess. The daytime is short now, after 4 p.m. it's already dark. And the Citadel Lookout was closed for real (I thought Google Maps was out of date) after I spent a lot of strength and time hiking up there. And after Palvolgyi I was disappointed in Szemlő-hegyi, should have visited only one I reckon. Nevertheless, I had a great time and I would come again preferably when the weather is better and warmer and the daytime is longer. >>2843718>the hiltonMr. Richpants, how much did you spend and was it worth it?
I was poor when I was there and saved money by sleeping in the hills of Buda. I recommend you do this, very good camping.
>>2843877>sleeping in the hills of Budalots of people go camping there, there's fireplaces and these wooden watchtowers which used to be for hunters to camp out. Not a bad idea at all.
>>2843786>And the Citadel Lookout was closed for real (I thought Google Maps was out of date) after I spent a lot of strength and time hiking up there.yeah it's currently being renovated, it should be open by spring next yeardid you go to any of the bathhouses? how was the concert?
>>2843996>did you go to any of the bathhousesNo, not a fan. >how was the concert?10/10 would go again tomorrow in Warsaw if I could. Totally exceeded my expectations, I even liked it more than the Swans show which I saw a few hours ago.
