Are there any countries left that give you the original travel experience like it used to be?

>Get on the plane with valid English people and out usual mix of shit immigrants, gets off with them and see some along the way to hotel.
Manage to to get a hotel out of the way enough to avoid them but somehow still have some tourists around.
>Travel out of the capital to more scenic town. Look at people waiting for the train.

>Oh boy here we go again.

>Walk around the town trying to soak in the feel being in a foreign country, see a few familiar faces along with other tourists. Hear London accents, takes me out of it totally.
At this point every holiday is a group holiday

In before go to non touristy places. Third world Balkan countries that saw 20 tourists a year who were all hardcore backpackers are the same way now.

Central Asia is the next big one.
Parts of Africa are opening up, too.
>>

Holy shit I was going to comment to say that the last place I went to that actually made me feel like I was in a foreign land far removed from the west was Kyrgyzstan. And if all else fails at least I'll have central Asia.
Please tell me you're joking, or it's just the mega bored and rich and/or weirdos that have started to go.

They can have Africa in any case
>>
>>2834491
I think it's in the same boat as the Balkans 10 years ago.

More Central Asians are coming to Europe to work, and this means the likes of Wizzair are offering flights. People soon find out that flights go 2 ways, and start chceking out what's what.
In Poland, for example, the more adventerous types are definitely starting to explore. Word will spread.

You give the Jordan wearing, Oat laté drinking, tick tock scrolling vermin a lot of credit my friend. They just go wherever is shown and hyped up online. People have been flying to Japan for decades, they could have gone in 1995, they go now because it's cool

I saw you in another thread, how about you stop being a baby and communicate like an adult. This thread is the perfect place to tell us it isn't. Your recommendations are more than welcomed, I'm actually counting on them.

A good measure on what's safe and doable is what the digital nomad fags are up to. Kigali and Nairobi get lots of mentions.

If you also look at governments, you can get a good measure, too. Some are opening the countries up for westerners on digital nomad visas, which implies a certain level of accessibility.

Cape Verde and Namibia are quite well-travelled-to places, where you can get ezpz visas. Kenya is coming online soon too.

Lots of people speak about Ghana and Senegal being decent for travel, too.

What an absolutely abhorrent post by OP. Truly room temp IQ

Sorry to break it to you but globalization is in full effect. Nothing is genuine anymore and it never will be again, unless you want to go visit the unconnected tribes in Papua New Guinea. The world doesn't owe you an "original travel experience". You can go to the most out of the way places in backwater countries and it's still going to be people sitting alone in a cafe staring at their phone.
>>

I'm sorry to break it to you Gayus Negronius, but every corner of the world is tainted with Roman boots and denarii.
Nothing is genuine any more. Everybody wears togas, sips wine in marble forums, and bows to Jupiter.
Your only chance is to climb over Hadrian (fag)'s wall to visit the uncontacted tribes in Hibernia, or sail down the Nile to reach the Mountains of the Moon.
The Emperor doesn't owe you an 'original travel experience'. You can catch a trireme in shitholes like Gaul, Britannia, or Jupiter forbid, Dacia, and there'll still be Romans staring at their scrolls in Latin.

I don't know if this is a hot take but I'm going to say any non-tier 1 Chinese city. There's so many natives and so many different cities even if tourism to China was really high (it's not) it could absorb the amount of tourists much better than almost any country. On top of that, there's very few international flights even in major tier two cities, and the lack of English + western technology ecosystem makes it a lot more formidable to most. I imagine most of this applies to India as well but I'm not sure.

Also definitely Algeria. I don't think you're going to find a country as centrally located, stable, and large as Algeria with as few tourists and I don't think that's going to change at least in part due to the pretty strict visa requirements.
>>
>>2834630
I've heard nothing but incredibly bad things about Algeria. There's a reason nobody wants to go there.
I mean, the areas aroud Tamanrassett and Djanet theoretically seem kino, but the people just don't strike me as trustworthy at all. Shame it's not part of France, desu.
>>
>>2834484
Yeah. It's called turning off your damn screen and engaging with your surroundings. Perfectly doable in 2025. Stop watching fucking YouTube vlogs, stop scrolling travel subreddits, stop browsing /trv/. The moment you turn your screen off, all that shit stops existing.
>>
>>2834651
Why are (You) here then, you silly creature?
>>
>>2834630
Wow first good answer. China sounds great, but it seems like it could be difficult to get to these cities from what you say. I only get two weeks off at a time, so don't have time for much messing around. Which tier 2 cities do you recommend? And are there any that are fairly easily accessible?

The secret to having experiences like this is... driving.

If you're backpacking, then you tend to be at the mercy of the transport network and affordability, so you will not be alone.

Even in touristy Thailand it is possible to still have authentic travel experiences if you drive. Sometimes you don't even need to drive far to find totally deserted beaches, tourist-free towns or national parks.

Generally, if there are English language signs, then they are trying to attract tourists, so expect to see them there.

As someone from the UK, even when I visit the US I find that most British tourists don't drive or if they do, they have no imagination (they'll do the PCH in a convertible mustang). When I drive, I often never hear British accents in National Parks. I find that usually it's a few French and Japanese tourists with a love of outdoors.

Malaysia, the Philippines... both places where you can spend two weeks and not even see another white person once you've driven away from the tourist areas.

Rent a car, get annual car rental excess cover and just enjoy exploring (after you've stocked up on bottled water and an emergency supply of trail mix and snacks. Download the google map to your phone before you go, then you'll always have an idea of what's around you.

Yes, renting a car costs money, but you usually save on accommodation by having more choice and being in low-tourist areas.

Makes sense, this is out of the question though. Besides I'd rather go to non touristy countries then to go to popular places and have to try and get away from them, sometimes its nice to walk around towns too. I might just go back to china like the other anon suggested. I went to Chongqing which is a big city and I still barely saw any tourists, smaller places will be a dream. Also waiting for them to get back to me about central Asia. Kazakhstan doesn't seem to be in the spotlight but any country can get the Japan treatment at any moment
>>
>>2834636
NTA but I've been to 15 countries between Africa and the Middle East, and Algeria is my easily favorite of the bunch.
Besides the natural beauty, the people are really friendly but not in a transactional way, they're actually quite disinterested in tourists, nobody will try to scam you or charge you higher prices, but they're more than happy to help if asked, without expecting anything in return (oftentimes I was offered free rides and meals just because people wanted to be extra nice to the foreigner, I was told I'm a "guest").
Very refreshing experience compared to other countries in the region that see you as a walking credit card.
>>
>>2835095
Where abouts did you head to? Any highlights?
>>
>>2835031
Road trips can be very isolating if you keep to yourself. It's also a lot of responsibility to drive a car. A lot can go wrong, and many tourists simply don't want the worry factor when they're on vacation.

If you want to explore the natural beauty of Malaysia's rainforest mountains, you need a car. If you just want to bum around town and aren't afraid of the humidity or tropical downpours, public transport and walking work just fine to see the country. The cheapest hotels are usually near the town centers.
>>2834756
My overseas departure is still 37 days out, duh
For the past 100 days I haven't gone farther than five miles' walking distance from the apartment I'm renting. Previously, I averaged a new town every two days for four months straight.

South/central America for the most part.
