How do you meet people abroad? I go to the skatepark, start shooting the shit with folks, buy some beers and then they eventually take me out to the bar or to their moms house for more drinking, I have no idea how I would meet folks if it weren't for skateparks.
>>2837006>start shooting the shit with folks, buy some beers and then they eventually take me out to the bar or to their moms house for more drinking.Sorry I'm not a Chad.
>>2837006>How do you meet people abroad?depends on who you want to meetgroup tours are really easy to meet peoplebut it's gonna be other travelers and the tours themselves are very hit or miss from the actual enjoymentif you're in your 30s or older and travel without a budgetluxury boutique hotel bars are a really great waythe only 2 long term travel friends I've met in recent years were over cocktails in a small lodge in botswana and in a small hotel in Stockholmother than that>hostels if you you're young, read the reviews and specifically search for social ones>local bars on busy nights (events work best, like halloween just now, as groups are a bit more "loose")>social events like meetups (though will more likely be expats)>or if you're into art, go to vernissages!technically, if you're social and charismatic enough, you can meet people literally anywhere
Should I even bother buying a shinkansen ticket online? Anons on here say they go to the station and still can buy tickets day of, then they spend an hour or so dicking around the station (which is fine).
>>2837100This doesnt work outside the skatepark community. Actually one time a dude from a hostel invited me to his house when I went to his city
What's a good first time solo travel destination within Europe for January? I'm thinking either Germany or Norway.
>>2837301Norway is expensive, and brutal in winter.Germany was my first solo trip and I'd say it's a great place to start. It has literally everything that a traveler could want, history, nature, nightlife, good food, good transportation, good English if you need it, and not too expensive. You can basically get a taste and feel for everything there.
>>2837301>January>NorwayOslo gets like 6h of Daylight with on avg <2h of sunshine per day in Januarythe further north you go the worse it's gonna getsave Norway for another seasonand solo traveling Norway is ROUGH anyway, mostly (old) couples and families, barely any young travelers let alone solo / groupsGermany is really great as first solo travel destinationother easy options in the region would be Netherlands, Belgium, Poland or eastern European capitalsSpain or Croatia are great for party / nightlife but only in Summer
How risky is it to have a layover that's only about an hour long?My fear is that the first flight gets delayed, and then I'll be in trouble.
>>2836940What is the optimal travel duration?
>>2838195>What is the optimal travel duration?depends a lot on your travel stylegenerally 2 weeks is a good recommendationand no longer than 1 week at one placepersonally I like to do 3-4nights at a place than move ona little longer for some big citiesusually 3-5 locations per vacationsotherwise I get overwhelmedso optimal for me would be 10-21 days + 2 travel days for flightswhich is exactly how I traveled in recent yearstypically 2 "big" 2-3week vacations along some extended weekend trips
>>2838125>How risky is it to have a layover that's only about an hour long?A bit risky. It depends on how long and frequent the flights to your next destination are. If the next flight is just 2 hours and the airline has 4 more scheduled later that day, just take the next one. If it's a 12 hour flight and only runs once a day I would make sure I have a longer layover and not miss it.
>>2838265The only time I have had this problem is when traveling through the US. It seems to mean that it is like rolling the dice with ensuring your luggage gets on the plane. I have had less turnarounds in Asian airports and have never had the problem.
Best city break for tinder hook ups in your opinion? Not paying for prostitutes because I’m not a reprobate. I want an organic human connection, romance, handjobs!Best city break for this?Porto? Madrid? Barcelona? Paris? Sarajevo? Athens? Dubrovnik? Budapest?
>>2838329If you're hot, it really doesn't fucking matter, assuming it's a fairly liberal country. Just pick a city you like or think looks cool.I'd go Vancouver cuz I like Asian chicks who are also westerners. Also Berlin for alt/punk/goth girls.
Is it fine if i get someone to buy me a plane ticket in another country where it's cheaper? Are the airlines/travel agencies gonna get uppity about the passport's nationality not matching where the flight was purchased?Example: I live in Calgary, I want to go to Cairo, it's cheaper in the US on Expedia, I get my friend in the US to buy me a ticket that shows up on Expedia US that's cheaper than I would get it in Expedia Canada
>>2838452This is literally not a problem whatsoever. Lots of people purchase flights outside of their home country. How do you think backpackers go country-hopping all the time?Hell, you could probably do this yourself if you use a VPN. If you are gonna get your friend to do it, just make sure he's not a dumbass and actually gets your personal information correct.
>>2838452Not sure what you mean. Are you just confusing currencies maybe? If you want the cheapest ticket then find the cheapest place to fly out from, and take indirect flights. Maybe another airport than Calgary, that's still reachable to you, will have cheaper flights.>>2838453The VPN thing is a myth. Airlines ticket prices do not change depending on where the buyer is connecting from. I don't know about third party aggregator sites but I doubt that either.
>>2838456Anon thinks purchasing plane tickets in another country will save him money. You say that ticket prices don't change based on location, so either way this whole idea of his is a bust.
>>2838458I just checked trip com and it is cheaper but not by much, maybe by like $100 at the very most
>>2838459Always book with airlines directly. You may get a marginally cheaper price from third party sites but you lose a lot of other things.
>>2837443I'll look into Germany. I went to Berlin a couple years ago and liked it but the length of time wasn't long enough and there's some stuff I would like to visit there mainly connected with art and literature . Austria is another choice that's a strong candidate now that I'll probably save Norway for an another season. I've been to Spain and France loads of times so I'm a little burnt out on both of those locations I'll look into Belgium or eastern Europe
Should I go to Montreal this Thanksgiving? For context, I'm American and I'll have 4 full days off for the holiday. Not long enough to be worth flying to Europe, but I also don't feel like going anywhere in the states during this time. That really only leaves Canada, where the closest city is Montreal, a 7 hour drive from me. Could be cool to experience since I've never been, and an opportunity to practice my French, but I just don't know if it's worth the 7 hours drive. Honestly it looks kinda boring desu, like any generic North American city, and none of the tourist attractions seem that compelling. It seems all the cool stuff is in Quebec City, but that's even farther and way out of the question, even as a day trip. I could just stay home and save a bit more for my trip to Europe in December, but I'd also kinda feel like a sucker for not taking the opportunity to travel more.
>>2836940Is an eSIM necessary if I’m going straight from airport to hotel (which both have wifi) in puerto Vallarta?
>>2838329>Best city break for tinder hook ups in your opinion?Rio>Porto? Madrid? Barcelona? Paris? Sarajevo? Athens? Dubrovnik? Budapest? You have to leave the EU playpen if you want the dating market to be much different
>>2838519I used bookings for a flight to indonesia, got an email early on that my flight was changed by couple of minutes, which was fine, didn't matter, proceed to me many months later trying to leave indonesia and my ticket for some reason showed up as invalid, had to make so many calls and the airline and bookings kept blaming each other. Managed to get on the flight but never haven't trusted those websites since.
Is there a way to get price alerts for a range of lengths and a range of departure dates?it seems like google flights only gives alerts for specific trip dates or for generic week long trips
Hawaii >orKey West>orThailand (some island)Which one would you pick? I want to go somewhere on vacation (solo) in December. I'm from EU if that matters. I just want to get some drinks and sleep by the beach. I don't care about anything else.
>>2839055I'd pick HawaiiFamily went to Thailand and didn't like it that much (of course mileage may vary depending on where exactly you go), downside still remains that if you go as a single guy everyone will expect you went to fuck dudes.
>>2839055If all you care about is a beach slop vacation, then just go to Thailand, as it's the cheapest
>>2839057Thailand seems significantly cheaper and comes with added benefits of ladyboys (joke (maybe not)).However after visiting Texas and NY last year I want to explore US more. (but it's almost x2 more expensive (which is fine by me if it's worth it))>>2839060I am sick of museums. I'd be more into nature if anything. Bars and parties do no interest me. I hate loud and big crowds too.
>>2839062Sounds like you want the Big Island.
>>2839062Thailand has incredible nature. Hawaii is decent too. Key west not so much, it's just beach and a few historic sites.
>>2839074Where in Thailand though. Seems like there are 100s of locations everyone is going to. I don't mind paying extra for something nice.
>>2839055>Hawaii>from EUthat's a 20h+ flightvs.>Thailandthere are direct flights from all major EU airports to multiple locations in Thailandand only ~11h>solo) in Decemberjust go to Thailandit's one of the few countries where you can socialize as solo traveler at any ageand is rightfully considered an easy first solo travel locationHawaii or Florida Keys will be lonely (if you want to socialize)>>2839062>I'd be more into natureVietnam or Indonesia would be valid alternativesVietnam is easy soloIndonesia also works but needs better planingalso why was Keys even on your list?go to Everglades NP in Florida
>>2839055Thailand. Much closer and much cheaper.
>>2836940How do i get into a hostel manI don't get what they're forCan you even book a hostel without being in college
>>2839383>How do i get into a hostel manSame as you would a hotel.>I don't get what they're forThey are an alternative form of accommodation. They are like hotels, except much cheaper, much lower in quality, and you often have to share a room with strangers. They are great for people who don't have much money, or people who are very frugal.>Can you even book a hostel without being in collegeYes, and don't ever ask that question again.Yes, it's true that most hostel guests are college students, or around that age.No, you don't actually have to be a college student or college-aged to stay in hostels.I've seen all walks of life use hostels. I've seen elderly couples, middle-aged parents with school-aged children, Vietnam War veterans, working professionals (30+), and many more.
>>2839392Thank you! Can you trust most people there to not mess with youShould I go to their reception and hand them the cash
>>2839394Also I heard police could be called in and they'd sometimes have criminals with drugs with them, so I've been warned about them
How old is too old to travel for partying? I'm 26 and I never really did much clubbing or partying in my life, and when I did it was usually pretty awkward. Now I have massive FOMO. I just want to experience some normal "young person who parties" experiences in my life while I still can, but I'm afraid people will look at me weird for not being a student.
>>2839757You still have a few years left in you. Get it out of your system now before it's REALLY too late.>I'm afraid people will look at me weird for not being a student.26 is definitely too old to be a college student, but you could pass for a med/law/grad school student.
>>2839765I'm not looking to pass as a college student. But will people think I'm weird if I'm not? Like if I try to hit on a 20 or 21 year old would that be weird? Will there be people 25-30 there too?
>>2839788No, you're not weird nor would anyone think of it. I wouldn't be surprised if there were 35+ people there. I don't even think age will be a thing that comes up in conversation. If you're under thirty, they're down to get dirty.
>>2839757people in their 20s go partying even after no longer students. clubs around the world are full of people who are not students. only stuck up people would care you weren't a student, it is weird to get yourself stuck on such a point.
>>2838678I dont have experience in solo travelling through Mexico but while in another country, I could not esim on my phone and made it through by downloading google map routes to be available offline while on hotel wifi. Personally its doable but i prefer the extra "safety net" of having access while out and about
Any wildcard suggestions on what country should I visit to just chill for a week or two this winter? I'm from the US and have already been to Ireland, France, and Canada, and I speak French fairly well and a little bit of Spanish. I like trying new foods, castles, hot springs. Thinking maybe Hungary or somewhere in the Pyrenees or Alps.
>>2839757Like 22. You already missed out on it. But since you never party or clubbing you never missed out on anything to begin with.
Will I look like a doofus wearing a cowboy hat while traveling abroad? I just like wearing them. I'm ok looking like an obvious foreigner since I'm white in a non-white country, but will it result in funny looks? I'm not talking about a 10 gallon hat, but a sensibly low crowned hat.
How safe is Durban, SA for a white normie tourist?
>>2840886Yes
>>2840886Cowboy hats are the American equivalent of turbans
>>2840882Budapest sounds like your place then.

Take into account how much the season may affect things as well. I'm solo btw and in mid 20s.
How do you do laundry on an extended trip? Do most destinations have some sort of self-service laundries? Do you use your hostel/hotel services?
>>2840999>Do most destinations have some sort of self-service laundries?Yes, most places either have self service laundry or drop off laundry shops that aren't too much. The best is getting an Airbnb with washer/dryer combo but I don't make that a priority.>Do you use your hostel/hotel services?Almost never because hotel laundry is overpriced and I don't stay at hostels
>>2840926>Jan 1: Budapest>Jan 2: Budapestkeep in mind that a lot of stuff will be closedmuseums and other big attraction typical tell you beforehandbut smaller shops, restaurants, cafes etc. all just can be closed without announcement>>2840999>How do you do laundry on an extended trip?>Do most destinations have some sort of self-service laundries?unless you specifically look for apartments with a washing machine, nobut in most big cities you'll find laundromats or pick up washing services you can book nearby>Do you use your hostel/hotel services?usually too expensiveunless I'm on company expense... (tbf then my time is actually valuable)some hostels have coin operated washing machines, which are alrightand some type of hotels offer free laundry serviceslike most luxury lodges throughout Africa (for Safaris) will have free laundry
>>2841115I was expecting some closures on Jan 1, but not Jan 2. Good to know. Is Jan 2 at least a bit more open than Jan 1?
>>2840895>>2840900I was thinking I could be like Dennis Hopper in The American Friend.
How do people just sleep next to random strangers on a plane? wtf
>>2841733It's a public place. What are they gonna do, molest you in your sleep?
>>2841734it's not unheard of.
I'm traveling solo for new years.Should I bother booking a "party hostel", or will a regular hostel be fine if I'm looking to meet people? Also if it matters, my departing flight is at 6 am, meaning I need to be up early. How bad are party hostels in regards to sleep?
I'm going to Japan for the first time for 9 days (not including flights). I really want to go to Kyushu and Okinawa for personal reasons but also don't want to skimp on Tokyo time. How would you go about this or should I just stick to Tokyo and maybe Osaka for a first trip?
>>2841810What's the personal reason? Is it anything more than just "it interests me"?Either way, you should prioritize what you want to see when traveling, not what you're "supposed to". Besides, Japan is one of those countries you'll want to visit multiple times because it has so much, so might as well just do what you want on a first trip and not worry about "missing" things.
>>2841812Key advice here. Fags who tick off lists are doing themselves a disservice. Do things, and do them well.
>>28418109 days is too short for kyushu and okinawa, i think you gotta skip em anon. okinawa is good for 3-7 days
>>2836940is 40 too old to stay at a hostel? Just looking to save money dont really care about the social aspect
>>2841904I was staying at a hostel in Berlin, and i had roommates who were a former UN worker in his 50s visiting his home town, and an old French lady in 60s just there for tourism. Some people really just use it as a cheap alternative for hotels. Only thing is there are some hostels specifically geared towards partying and young people, but that's not every hostel
>>2841812Basically no other reason than it interests me. But I'm leaning toward hugging Tokyo. What about Osaka + Tokyo in 9 days? I'd also like to scope out Tokushima too for autistic reasons and could probably get a day trip in there from Osaka if I did let's say 4 days Osaka 5 Tokyo, Kyoto too. >>2841901Thinking I'll save that for a 2 week+ trip down the line, yeah
>>2841857Agree with this but for me it can be hard to make the distinction. I felt I had to go to the non-touristy home city of my great grandpa overseas once instead of the Rick Steves/Conde Nast etc must-sees surrounding it and the results were mixed.
>>2842061Wait hold on, I take this back. I'm glad I did that the first time. The fact I did it a second time and in winter was stupid.
Going to mexican west coast with some friends for 9 days in a few weeks. Landing in puerto vallarta, renting a car and staying along the coast. Not super worried about filling our days, but if you guys have any suggestions for cool stuff to check out along there any recommendations are appreicated. Im also curious about the current situation surrounding mushrooms down there and if its worth trying to track some down.
>>2840999Get quick dry clothing made of synthetic fabric, wear it for three days, wash it in a grocery bag or sink, it dries overnight. Any other option sucks in comparison
>>2841122Jan 2 is a holiday in many European countries.
>>2841904I'm in my late 40s and sometimes stay in hostels. But it's the opposite for me, I have money but I go to them for the social aspect.
>>2842107>clothing made of synthetic fabric, wear it for three daysanon...both polyethylene naphthalates and polyamides stink pretty quicklysome synthetic fabrics like tencel are better though (but a bitch to care for)but if you wear your polyester shirt for 3days you resemble more someone from /r9k/ than a regular person

I'm from the U.S., considering taking a trip to the U.K. to see some shows from one of my favorite bands that will probably never tour in the U.S. I'm trying to make it as cheap as possible to justify spending close to $1k on the flight and tickets alone just to go see some music. They have 5 dates in Britain and if it were in the U.S. I'd rent a car and sleep in it while following the band around, but I have no idea how much (if at all) British police would care about me doing this.I'd be going to London, Bristol, Glasgow, Birmingham, and Manchester. Could I in theory rent a car and find some quiet spot on the way to the next city to park and sleep after the shows?
I'm what you might call an LBH (Loser Back Home)Never had a gf, never had a good job, never had good looks etc etcI have a new idea that I"m going to the dentist to fix my teeth and while I'm wearing braces I'm just gonna workout and stack cash then once the braces are off I"m gonna go to some 3rd world shithole where I can ascend into the fabled top 20% of men and maybe get a gf.I will probably be around 30 by the time that happens.I'm like 5'7 or 5'8. Extreme social problems but I think I can kinda fake it if I need to.What country / countries should I be looking at, as in what is the easiest country for a LBH to get laid in? I only speak english btw if that matters. American btw if that matters.

>>2842454I've seen you post in multiple threads. Why do you hate incels so much? They're a significant part of the population the social aspect is a big part of traveling
>>2842454I think, statistically speaking, I'm taller than most men on earth and I'm not really sure how my post was at all more "insufferable" or "faggot[y]" than yours.I will go ahead and post a dumb incel frog for you tho.Anyways, what's the easiest country to get a gf in as a LBH? I don't just want some prostitute I want like the trad wife low body count homemaker. I understand those are the top tier women, that's why I'm interested in /trv/ to another country where I become a top tier man.
>>2842350>>2842475Those trad women only go for chads. They also want top tier men.Just go to Philippines I guess.
>>2842473That's not just me. Those threads/posts are just a waste of time and we get 30 of them per week from the same insane spergs, posting the same insane drivel that never do anything. Over the last 12 years the amount of spergs that actually went anywhere is four we got Insecurity Guard and Cult of Passion out of it(a net negativ), the two others still complain about being a incel in ChingChonglands and posting their daily "playing 3ds all day in the hostel bunk" threads.

>>2842350>Extreme social problems>but I think I can kinda fake it if I need toyou know that this is not how it works, right?!?being (pleasantly) social is like a muscle that needs to be trainedit's not something you can turn on & off on whim or something that happens just because you want to by overcoming your anxiety once a decadethe good newsit's quite easy to get good at being socialbut I wouldn't start in a foreign place, start slowly at home, now>where I can ascend into the fabled top 20% of men and maybe get a gfyou need to be top 5-10% as foreignerat least for serious relationshipjust because in almost all countries, women that date foreigners are pretty rarealso here's a non-exhaustive list>easy mode>east and southern african (capitals)>Philippines or Indonesiakeep in mind that you'll rarely get "true" or "genuine" love, you'll mostly be a trophy husband and for making white(r) kidsalso usually very strong family bonds that will be prioritized before youdon't fall for the slum girl trap, it'll be even easier but it's not worth it>normal mode>rest of SEA>China (only if you speak Mandarin)>most of South Americathe typical passport bro destinations, but the top >10% applies, basically only works well if you're doing okay at home and you just want to increase your "value">bonus>central and northern Europewomen in countries like Germany or Denmark, place a lot less value on your income, fitness, status, height etc.if you can get somewhat charismatic, you'll be doing fine
I'm terribad at sleeping in flights. I'll be flying from central Europe to Nippon in a few months which will be my first time travelling so long (bit above 20h w/ layovers). Overall about 24h, a bit more in transit. Arriving in the late evening in both directions.Question is, is pulling an "all-nighter" and crashing after arrival a good way to quickly offset jet-lag or am I better off somehow getting good at sleeping in flights and adjusting after? Thanks.
>>2836940I have a question. I'm just starting to travel to scout out a more rural place to move to. Mexicans, City People, and Jews have completely ruined my home turf. Nothing can be done about it and I just have to get out while I still can.So why are the hotel and motel prices fake on Google Maps, and what is going to be the most efficient way for me to scout out where to stay when I go places? Calling every single place near a destination sounds like a real pain in the ass, but I also do not need endless fucking junk mail pertaining to travel, so I probably don't want to sign up for any hotel sites. So yeah, what's the move?

Where can I find land and set up a yurt unnoticed? Rent and real estate is for cucks, living off the land is true living, I'm not paying someone for the right to live. I think many empty land exists around northern nordic areas. I'm already citizen and resident in eu schengen. I'd just disappear there until death.
>>2845629But the prices on there aren't the real prices at all...
>>2845609>Mexicans, City People, and Jews have completely ruined my home turfRussia introduced a "visa for chuds" you should check it out>what is going to be the most efficient way for me to scout out where to stay when I go places?Booking, Agoda and Airbnb will cover like 99% of listings
>>2845841Email the places on google maps and ask for the local prices. Use google translate to help you blend in. The further in advance you pay by card, the better rates you'll get.
I've never been to a country that requires a visa. How exactly do they work?Do I need to apply right before my trip so it doesn't expire, or are they good for several years?
>>2845841Correct, plan for them to be 2x the price displayed
Do you guys often get asked for "proof of onward travel" when flying one way?Do you usually get a throwaway or pay a website for an "onward ticket" service?>>2846171>visaIm not an experrt but I think , yes. You apply for the visa and then its good for a year or whatever
>>2846171For a food analogy, you're asking "how do I cook meat". The answer is "on a heat source", but the particulars will vary wildly for beef and for chicken.Usually you apply beforehand, marking an arrival date on the form, and it will be valid for X days from that day on. Some countries however are retarded and will mark the beginning day of the visa as the day they've approved it. Some countries offer multi-year visas, some will give you 30 days max and tell you to fuck off right after. Some states offer a visa on arrival, in that case, you just land at the airport and go to the booth that says "leave your dollars here".You pretty much need to check the details for whichever specific destination you have in mind.
I`m looking to travel for the first time and all these hotels say:>Guests are required to show a photo identification and credit card upon check-inwhat if I only have a debit card?
>>2847233I've never been asked for an actual credit card, ever.I pretty much have always just shown ID, mainly using booking.com, some places don't even ask for that. Must've stayed in over 100 hotels by now.
>>2847235is this in a specific country or in a bunch of places around the world?
>>2846264If a country has 'evidence of onward travel needed', you'll typically be asked at the check-in counter for proof of this. I believe airlines get fined if they let people board who aren't allowed in destination country. When recently flying to China from Heathrow, I was asked about my plans, and had to show the visa I had, etc. Re: China, some people book flexible HK tickets, then cancel them once they land. This works fine. Most countries just want stamps and paper trails.
>>2847238EU, Middle East, Eastern Europe & Central Asia
>>2847240alright, so would it be fair to say that the line about ID / credit card that you see on booking.com is more of just a blanked legal type of statement but in reality its not like that?
>>2847241I believe many places use credit card as a synonym for debit card, desu. There's probably some retarded American middleman nonsense baked in somewhere, too.Photo ID you should always have when traveling. Some higher end hotels may be worried that they can't do anything if you trash shit. Having a debit card which matches your photo ID at least gives them something to hand over to their insurance company. Also generally, if you don't dress well, expect more things to be enforced.
>>2847242okay, I`m just worried about flying across the world and then showing up to the hotel and they tell me to fuck off cause of my card
>>2847244Just get a credit card?

>>2847283Have you ever been rejected for using a debit card? They put holds on the debit card. Unless you've got a specific example, I think this is fud.
>>2847287>do you think less on a tripI think more about creative and awesome ideas and funny stuff to say or do, or process old problems and issues and sometimes some weird stuff comes up from the unconsciousWhat do mean about reading material? Im guessing you have not read any mind opening/inspiring works lately ? Is that what you mean to say
>>2847333How deep do you get with your processing problems without actively trying?I need to write to actually solve things. The bandwidth my mind has is insufficient and I lose focus. I tried delving into a double search filter problem called "post-filtering" but couldn't dig my heels into it. I think walking and excercise take blood away from the brain, into the muscles, hindering thought processing. What kind of funny things do you imagine saying? Sometimes cartoonish things enter mind and I lol in public like I'm insane.
>>2847302Yep, plenty of people have.
>>2847412Deep enuff to process or solve or get it out of my mind(but maybe its still in the unconscious?)Maybe I will try writing to see if it helps, but for example. A lot of times I will later figure out the logic or reasoning or think of what i should of said when debating or conversing with someoneOr like thinking about a time someone wronged me, and processing it and forgiving themLike when some old black ladys parking her cadillac front row handicap and i think to myself "sheeeit debrah , welfare must be nice"Or i will bust out laughing when I randomly think about a funny past event like one time back in the day I joyrode his moped without him knowing, the rear tire popped and i rode it home on the rim and parked it. The next day he calls and says his neighbors must of sabotaged him. I dont tell him for months that it was me
>>2847435And to addI find walking and bicycling to get my mind flowing out, but yeah then it is lost. I should try writing to have more complete thoughts and to look back and develop them furtherAnd yeah I randomly chuckle or LOL to myself while walking around (and yes I hope they think I am insaane too!)
>>2847425I've traveled a lot around Europe and Asia and never heard of it, I always use debit card and had zero issues with hotels
>>2847425I.e. no personal experience, and are chatting shit. Feel free to name hotels, locations, whether they knew the difference between a debit and credit card, etc.
>>2847467>>2847440All respectable hotels require credit cards. You've been staying in shitty hostels and drug dens.
What is there to do are Phoenix? Work has me there for two weeks and am looking for something to do on the weekend. Is the Grand Canyon actually worth it?
>>2847484Phoenix is an incredibly boring city considering how big it is, but fortunately Arizona is incredible for national parks.> Is the Grand Canyon actually worth it?Very much so. It's a huge area so just explore around

>>2836940Whats the best way to avoid foreign fee transactions? I go screwed over from my previous trip to Japan which I felt I didn't use my card as much. Physical cash only? Apply for a foreign fee exempt credit card?
>>2847726Im not a credit fag but I think they make cards that cancel or refund feesThe easier option is debit carding cashOr if your a cash fag like me, bring thousands and exchange after finding the best rate
Does anyone want travel recommendations for Appalachia?

Is there a way to get Albania from Ohrid, Macedonia and then back to Ohrid the same evening, without renting a car?
>>2847726Depends on who screwed you over.If it's the foreign country that's fucked you via ATM fees (I assume you're smart enough to refuse DCC), your only options are research if there's any local bank that doesn't charge them, bringing cash and exchanging, or a credit card that refunds foreign ATM fees (burgers always rave about Schwab on /trv/, but such cards tend to be pricy outside of the USA). Obviously use cash only if it's one of those backwards countries with fat customer-side fees on all card payments. If it's your own bank fucking you over, just shop around for one with no or very low foreign currency transaction surcharge (and no jewish tricks with the exchange rate itself, just VISA spot). If there's none, get Revolut and Wise and whatever other clones (use as many as you can, you get backup cards and multiples of "free X per month" pool).
>>2847761There's for sure buses traversing the border. I've done Elbasan - Ohrid. However, I found that not many buses run after dark in Albania. The Saint Naum monastery trip is something you can do from Ohrid (you get the boat there which is kino), which plonks you right on the border. From here you can just grab a car to Pogradec and back. Generally in this part of the world, taxis are reasonably prices between cities in an emergency if your bus fucks up (timetabling is an alien concept).
Is Kuala Lumpur a good choice if I want to just fuck around a cool place for a few days? Or would Singapore be better? I don't party.>>2846171Check the Department of State website if you're a burger. If it's a difficult visa, check FB travel groups for the region. Often you can get it easier in a neighboring country.

I keep hearing about homeland dirt, so during an upcoming trip, I was going to get some, only to realize it's super illegal. What am I misunderstanding? How are these people importing actual soil without getting crucified by customs?
>>2847992I've never heard of this. Why would it be illegal to smuggle some fucking dirt out of a country?
>>2848010
>>2848117Fmlhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_French_Wine_BlightThere's all kinds of stupid shit that could happen
What kinda shit do you guys do to feel productive/growth while on the road? I usually study into random history or find some other sort of shit to read about, sometimes i will get into a good drawing phase
>>2848010>I've never heard of this. Why would it be illegal to smuggle some fucking dirt out of a country? There have been a couple instances in my lifetime that they even ask you if you have walked in pastures with your shoes...iin case you stepped in dirt that may have had dung on it.. This was hoof and mouth disease concerns.
what EU (or near) islands offer similar mix of beaches and big range of easy-to-very hard hikes to Hawaii?
>>2848513Azores, Faroes, Scotland
>>2847740Sure, if theres a cheap way for me to get around by bus leaving from washington dc.
>>2836940
>>2848513Teneriffa and Grand Canaria also Mallorca.
>>2848709Mallorca is shit for hiking though.
>>2848714If you want 2000m+ elevation gains, yeah but you have a good number or easy to hard hikes in the 3-8h range with great views.
>>2848667I think you can get to Roanoke, but really you need a car. I suggest renting one.
>>2848731Compared to this, it's pretty bad:https://maps.app.goo.gl/NEhJgqmpujgmLpuR8
