It seems fun but what do you actually do?>dude just like go there and do stuffGive me at least one specific thing because all advice I see is just this generic tropeI don't think I care about architecture, museums, or talking to random people. Eating out alone seems pretty lame. If I went with someone, I feel like that would be at least worth itI feel like I would like travel if I got dragged to do it but I'm not sure it really makes sense to me unless there is a sense of purpose which I feel like doesn't exist anymore since I can just use the internet
Go with a friend, then you can shoot jokes, ideas and thoughts back and forth about all the novel new things you see. When I travel alone, I go to the local skatepark, shoot the shit with folks, buy beer and then may eventually go out drinking with them at the bar or their house. Dunno how I would meet folks If I didn't skateboard. Also when I'm in a city I'm just looking for things like stairs, ledges and wedges to skate as I don't have much interest in museums and other tourist attractions,. I suppose hostels usually set up group activities for their patrons who really have no idea what to do with their time. I've done this and it's kinda like a field trip with classmates you don't know too well.
And I've always though field trips with classmates were fun*
>>2837014Valid point, my friends are pretty lame and don't go anywhere I should probably make new ones that do but I struggle with that too kind of due to the same reasons. Not opposed to making random short term friends but I'm not sure how to do it I don't really have a group activity like skating that has that inherent community
>>2837009To me, there’s a difference between travel and vacation. I’ll use my wife and myself as an example. My wife likes to travel. She likes to go in to the town or explore. She likes to experience the local culture through local restaurants. She likes to sight see and go to ruins or monuments or museums. For her, going to a new place is an opportunity to experience a new culture.Me, I like to vacation. I like to lay out by a pool or on a beach and tan and drink and eat. I like to be pampered and doted on. I like 5-star service. I like being fed and having everything provided for me with minimal effort. I like spas and soft bathrobes. At the end of the day, do whatever you want to do that’s different than your normal day to day that you don’t do in your hometown. If you don’t care about local culture and just want to relax, do it. If you want to go see beautiful sights that some people won’t see in a lifetime, do it. End of day, it’s what you make of it.
>>2837021I was just thinking about that. Maybe I just have fomo. I want to care about traveling but I'm not sure I do. Maybe a resort is just a better fit. Probably sounds lame to most but it seems nice and relaxing
>>2837009>I don't think I care about architecture, museums, or talking to random peoplewhat about hiking and scenic overlooks?
>>2837036I used to all the time but haven't in awhile
>>2837054find pictures of things you like, and then go there and see it in person, sometimes it isn't as nice in person, but sometimes it's much nicer in person and photos don't fully convey it
>think about a place you want to see>purchase a guide (or check it out of the nearest library, or just download pdf into your phone)>read the guide and make a rough itinerary >pack and leaveI would suggest to go to places within your country first, to get a feel for it, and begin to understand what you like to see and do.
>>2837079reading a guide is so 2003go on google maps and type keywords you like i dunno if this works for third world but like caves, museums, scenic overlooks, restaurants, its a good way to find stuff and the reviews can tell you a lot
I like to hike to waterfalls. If there's a river, I'll always looks for a company that does kayak or rafting trips. You can go snowboarding or skiing in the winter. I always make it a point to go out and try the local alcohol and do beer, liquor and wine tastings. I always do a little research and find the best bakery in town and eat there. I look for scenic drives. I look for old Roman ruins in Europe. I visit old churches. I like finding spots to cliff jump in the ocean. I like renting bikes and doing trails or just cruising through the city if they have dedicated bike paths. Some specific memorable things,Beer tastings in Prague at U KunštátůKayaking in Czesky KrumlovTouring the cathedrals in Madrid, St Francis is unrealSnowboarding at Les Houches in FranceCliff jumping off the walls of DubrovnikBiking through Bruges Belgium to DammeDriving through the Sierra de Grazalema from Cadiz to Rhonda in Spain
>>2837081its been dry as heck here for monthssadly, waterfalls are a waste of time in such seasonseurope you can't really have scenic overlooks of gorges in the same way cuz its all developedbut in america you can find some that don't have any housing or anything in them
>>2837081isnt cliff jumping really dangerous? One wrong move and you can really fuck yourself for life and for what one short adrenaline, anxiety-filled moment and its kind of unpleasant when your body hits body of water anyway
>>2837009It's okay man, it's not for everyone. There are lots of other hobbies that people like that I'll never understand, and that's fine.
