Long story short, the place where I was staying at is getting renovated and I have to be out for a month or more and have nowhere to go. I have a job and I’m not a junkie (just smoke weed) and have all my stuff in a storage unit. I am a daily commuter so I’m used to finding places with bathrooms, wifi, outlets, etc. and I tried sleeping on the A Train a couple nights ago and managed from about midnight til 6am. Had to keep waking up at the terminals and couldn’t really relax but it was something and wasn’t out in the freezing cold. I’ve considered doing intake for a shelter but I hear horror stories and don’t want to get my stuff stolen, catch bedbugs, or get assaulted. Just wondering if any nyc anons or other homeless have experienced similar situations and could give any advice as to keeping my wits and sanity. I also don’t have any money until I get paid tomorrow so hotels are a no go, not that they’re even an option for me with my income anyway.

I saw once a police documentary from USA and it showed that some people sleep in storage units. Seems desperate but it might be your one chance.

"First-world country", everyone

Yeah okay junkie, just go to the next homeless shelter and sleep with the other mentally ill junkies like you. Alternatives are rehab in a mental hospital or doing the world a favor and necking yourself.

If your place is being renovated to the extent that you must evacuate the premises , basically all 50 states IIRC, the landlord is REQUIED by law to make accommodations during the renovations/pay for temporary housing.

https://bbgllp.com/new/nyc-landlord-legal-guide-renovations/
"Landlords are obligated to maintain safe, sanitary, and habitable conditions throughout the renovation period. This includes minimizing dust, noise, and disruptions to essential services like electricity, water, and heating.

If work is extensive enough to temporarily displace tenants, landlords may need to provide alternative accommodations or offer rent abatements depending on the circumstances."

If the landlords aren't doing this you have a free easy win case against them.

OP is most likely bullshitting or a resident under a sublease that the landlord doesn't know about, thus his roommate is kicking him out temporarily.

op said "the place I was staying at" not "the legally recognized, fully HPD-compliant apartment where I was the sole primary tenant in an official 12 month lease filed with the New York State Division of Housing and Community Renewal"
>>
>>2840023
Which is why I suggested the latter end of my post, OP is most likely staying at a friends apartment without being on the lease. Has /trv/ never signed a lease before holy lol.

Do you think someone with their shit together enough to have a traditional, legally enforceable lease agreement would be sleeping on the A train and asking 4chan what to do? In your head, did that scenario actually make sense?

Because there is a shit load of trolling on this board and it wouldn't surprise me if this is yet another "lol (US city) is le-bad?!??!" post and keep in mind there are retards on this board who don't know what a connecting flight is.

You have way more faith in this board than I do or just trying to be a contrarian.

I am not invested in this board at all. I used to be a semi regular here, like 10+ years ago, but I grew bored of all the real traveller dick waving and virgins crying about people having sex. so I pop in here about once a year for a couple of days and then leave again. I'm just cringing at your autistic diatribe about BUT THAT'S ILLEGAL, I never understood why people felt that style of reply was useful in any context, is it some kind of Just World delusion? I just don't get it

Because as I was and have been pointing out, anon might not understand renters rights. You'd be surprised just how many people don't understand that shit and just go full autist mode no eye contact stare at the ground type "w-well okay I guess" to landlords. Why you are getting so bent out of shape for telling someone they have rights(unless he is breaking a lease) is kinda hilarious.

I guess I'm autistic about NYC real estate and landlord/tenant politics and your post had just the right blend of truths and random irrelevant stupidity to set me off. and HPD has a very well indexed, well maintained site with all this stuff laid out in plain english and about 10 other languages with direct links to city resources and complaint forms and so on, so linking a private law firm's website triggered my 'tism because it's superfluous at best, potentially out of date, and terribly misguided if you're actually trying to help someone
