How would you feel if hotel staff touched your personal belongings while you were outside, BUT only to prevent something bad from happening? Would them leaving a note explaining what they did make you feel any better? Has this ever even happened to you?
>>
when I was 6 I was visiting cancun and we were by the ocean (it was an oceanfront hotel) and I went back to my room because I got caught in a rip current (I ignored the red flag warning) and sucked under and I wanted to dry off and play my game boy and I found a housekeeper who let me in
no, I would not mind if they touch my stuff as long as they don't steal
if you wanna fold my clothes or neaten my shit - go ahead as long as its not like confusing where I put stuff cuz you moved it
>>
Pretty normal for my stuff to get touched when I'm out, you should get used to it if you travel. If I had reason to fear some kind of in-person espionage I might be upset if they touched my electronics but otherwise it's totally normal if you're in a hotel

doesn't happen in an airbnb
I accidentally left the light on above the stove when I left one day and when I got back it was off and the clock was reset so maybe it was a power failure or something but it was weird that was a sketchy listing though that I only stayed in because it was the only/cheapest option in my price range in the area
>>
>>2840330
It is NOT normal for hotel staff to enter an occupied room without the consent of the guest, namely, a key turned in to reception with an instruction to clean the room, or a "Please Make Up Room Now" sign.
>>
In fact, hotel staff should not have the key to your room unless you have handed it back to them. If they do, nothing you store in your room is safe. If your safe has a key lock, you can bet the hotel staff also have a key. Why do I have only 38000 baht in my safe? I put 50000 baht inside.
>>
>>2840346
what's with the shill campaign for cuckbnb? who cares about your platform branding, can't you just say rental apartment?
>>
>>2840330
I would assume that whoever left this note wants to have sex with me, and I would actively pursue this from that moment forward
>>
>>2840369
they come in to make your bed unless you put up the do not disturb sign
>>
>>2840383
it sounds like a pinay maid or maybe a ladyboy pinoy
>>
>>2840330
The only time that's ever happened to me was when a girl on the staff picked up all my laundry that was drying outside right before unexpected rainfall. Ended up buying her chocolates. Bless you, lady.

Are you referring to Indian hotels? They're infamous for staff barging into rooms hoping to see some nudity or even fugging in progress.
>>
>>2840585
friend, don't take this the wrong way, but nicer hotels will come in and make your bed, replace your towels, clean up, take out your garbage and even give you brand new soap bars every day.

My Indian hotel cleaners go through and steal my shit when they change my sheets. They all have terrible and scummy intentions, every fucking one of em. Never had I had such ridiculously bad service. Dog shit culture and all they do is steal scam and stink. FUCK INDIANS. FUCKING POOPJEET NIGGERDEEP RAVINDERPREETS. Imagine a world without fucking Indians how nice would that be

I put a little hidden camera somewhere if I have valuables like camera equipment or lots of cash.

19/20 times everything is fine. 1/20 times a little brown man goes through my stuff looking for something to snatch, and I talk to hotel manager and security, show them the footage get the brownoid fired, and then get comped a bunch of stuff if I agree to not go to police or media.

I once had a week long stay in Bali totally comped because a cleaner/mx guy opened the safe somehow and looked inside of it right after I had stepped out.

Bringing camera equipment is a recipe for disaster every time in every country. It singles you out immediately as rich and a tourist.

Some of the best hotels have actual physical keys, it's the cheapo roadside hotels that have mass produced electronic pass cards, you larping mong.
>>
>>2841003
Lol, I've been bouncing between 4 and 5 star hotels in China for the past few weeks and it's keycards all the way.
Keys are for fancy boutique shit. I don't want extra metal in my pocket, when I can just slip a card in my wallet.
>>
>>2841003
Ultra cheap hotels have a keypad like 00s ford
>>
It's a cultural norm issue.
In the west we don't have a class system so it's not normal to pay someone to carry your bags, carry out personal chores, comb your hair etc. But in counties with a class system they tend to think they're done you a service, because they're of a lower class, and it's normal for people of a lower class to do that, and they tend to self police because it's a source of collective income.

When people from the West remark that the poor people in other counties are more trustworthy then their comparatively wealthy employees back home, that's why. The poor are collectively dependent on tourists scraps, will fight over them, and beat up any other poor person who upsets that status quo.

Anon has encountered third world oppression, unironically. The habitual subservience of the lower classes

As someone who traveled to China and stayed in "4 and 5 star hotels". Pfffft HAHAHA

Stars are meaningless in asia you dork, and the fact that you even use them in this context tells me you know nothing. How was your $150/night hotel?

This is the reason I find it impossible to enjoy cruises or resorts in third-world countries. I got a really good deal on a Carnival cruise a few years ago thinking it'd be fun but there was just an overwhelming air of exploitation and unease coming from the filipino staff that just made things hard to enjoy. Being waited on makes me uncomfortable so maybe I'm just not sociopathic or ethnic enough to enjoy these sorts of thinly veiled power fantasy things. Or maybe I'm just a faggot.
>>
>>2842589
Totally normal reaction. Culturally we see certain activities as servile, for having the element of begging.
And the middle class hate beggers, and the exploitation of beggars.

But that's by no means a universal view, the Philippino people are very right wing, they will punish other Philippinos who cause them to lose face, to look bad, to damage their reputation as servants, and those recriminations extend to whole families.
And the rich won't respect people who refuse service, refuse to be charitable, undermine the fish feeding agenda.

I worked in tourism at a senior level and it was my job to train foreign staff not to be servile, invasive and beggars. To enforce our social norms on them, to opress Nepalese, Philippino, Japanese people into giving up these culturally unwelcome practices. Because if one of them did it, guests would expect everyone to do it, and it was very hard to explain to a Philippino why good staff don't beg, and why taking tips worked against him.
Frankly i just had to sack and flog every foreign staffer who worked for guests and ageist the business, begging, taking bribes, undermining the general staff.
>>
>>2841000
I don't care, I need my equipment for photo or video shoots. I also carry drones sometimes but they are too big to snatch and too difficult to pawn (I assume).
>>
>>2842595
>bribes
for what?
>>
>>2842587
It's company policy to use 4+ stars, lol. There's a collective consensus as to what 4* means, and China has delivered every time.

Previous hotel was incredible. 18th floor, ridiculously comfy bed, heated toilet seat opened when I walked in, nice ambient lighting, thick dressing gowns, sexy room service bringing me up dumplings.

The only issue which bugs me is when you run in to the room to take a shit (as squat toilets in suits are ogre), the TV often automatically turns on, and hearing random chinks speaking loudly makes me jump.
>>
>>2840330
Never had them touch my stuff. Once I was drunk as fuck and left a giant shit in the toilet, which they flushed but never said anything.
Always expect anything you leave in the room to be potentially stolen.
I leave a shitty hat I got for free out in the open on top of my bag. 6 months of traveling and it still hasn't been stolen
>>
>>2842589
I was at a large bar and six of them watched me the entire time. It was really creepy. I said hello and they looked away. The very second I finished my beer, 3 of them came running at me trying to get me another.
I paid for it and left. Good beer but freaky as fuck and uncomfortable staff.
>>
>>2842686
Stuff like this is exactly what I mean. Carnival, Royal Carribean, etc are CUTTHROAT with how they treat their third-world employees and people fight over those positions because the arguably shitty wages, food, board, etc. are still way better than the majority of jobs in their home countries. They're scared of pissing off a tourist (and the marketing is all about YOU) so they all put on these super subservient acts to make people feel important. Call me a faggot but I just felt so gross ordering a $40 steak and some $12 drink knowing that the guy taking my order lives in a 4 person cabin with no window and makes less than $10k a year. Cruises might be enjoyable if I didn't know any of this but once you read into the industry they really lose their vanity.
>>
>>2842857
you should never go out, because it's not like waiters in america are doing any better. if you feel so bad about it, give them a huge tip
>>
I've traveled across the US and never once had a hotel member enter my room. Most hotels i've seen even note that they won't give you room service unless you're there for more than 3 days with long term stay hotels being up to once a week even.
>>
>>2842870
Dude, you are in a shit hole country staying in fleabag hotels that is not normal.
>>
>>2842871
during and after the pandemic, most hotels in the US cut back on the room cleaning and stuff, so what he's saying is the new normal. but the more expensive places will still do daily cleaning. covid basically ruined everything.

>>

>>
>>2843577
https://www.dol.gov/agencies/whd/state/minimum-wage/tipped
sure, there are some states like california which have higher minimums, but minimum wage for waiters is $2.13 in half the states or $7.25 when combined with tips. that's definitely not enough to survive on in the US even in a shitty state.
>>
>>2843590
>that's definitely not enough to survive on

Then how are they alive?

>Glassdoor reports that the average annual salary for a waiter in the U.S. is $54,660, or $26 per hour, which includes tips, with a typical pay range between $40,995 (25th percentile) and $75,300 (75th percentile) annually.
Top earners can make up to $99,493 per year (90th percentile), especially in high-demand areas or upscale establishments.
>>
>>2842857
They make 1000+ usd a month flat. Lowest paid is 1,000. Some 1,300 or 1,500. When you start talking about officers and merchant Mariners it varies much more but these are the basic wages. Don't feel bad for them they are that servile outside of their job too. Poor country peasants most of them. They give all their money to their family.

You're a faggot.

T. Cruise ship chef
>>
>>2842857
Cruise ship employees have basically zero living expenses. You get to save virtually 100% of your paycheck while traveling the world and seeing all sorts of tourist-trap port cities. It's not a bad job if you have a tough immune system and can avoid getting sick all the time.
>>
>>2843847
Sounds based, can I do this as a white person with no qualifications?
>>
>>2843593
A large number of them are also part-timers with no benefits.
>>
>>2843845
And those would probably be considered very high wages in their home countries.
