The shit of 600 million Indians flows through Bangladesh, and additionally there are huge numbers of textile factories which add pollution to the water. I always hear talk about how badly behaved Banglas are, stealing beer from your fridge when they are doing work in your apartment, but when I've ridden on buses full of Bangladeshi migrant laborers in Malaysia, they always behaved as befits a devout Muslim. There's no denying that their country is a massive slave labor camp.
BTW the "India" on the left of OP's map is the state of Bihar, widely regarded as the worst state in India. It is downstream of Varanasi...and upstream of Bangladesh.

i'm guessing i'm the only one here who's actually been there?spent 4 days there just because i wanted to try it. had a great time. just this morning i was actually googling motorbike rentals in BD to see if that would be viable. would absolutely go back some day.Pretty much what you'd expect in terms of the dirt and the noise. Everyone was extremely friendly. No hustle except for one guy, who I ended up hiring to take me to cool places. paid him like $30 for a full day of his time.
