Good day anons, i didnt see any thread regarding spain, so im going to ask here.First of, feel free to hijack this thread for your own questions and discussions regarding spainI am flying to andalucia this january. Ive got a rented car, thats it, no hotels so far. Ive been at several cities there once with my parents 12 years ago, but it was summer. I plan to stay like 2-3 nights at the most remarkable cities, but because of my car i will be able to visit a bit more "remote" places like sierra nevada or tabernas, but im very interested in the culture too, is there anything going on in winter offseason? Like are the tablaos open? Or should i more confine myself in visiting nature sites and historical artefacts. Im not the poorest guy but i dont want to spent everything i have? My spanish is bad, i can read it fine, but understanding someone speaking is hard, and talking even worse. Anything i must see or should disregard completely?
I visited Spain in the early 2000s and we went to Madrid and Barcelona and I wanna say we had a day trip to Seville. I feel like it was maybe driving from Madrid to Barcelona - but there was some sort of ecological park that we stopped at that was extremely beautiful. And maybe all I remember is that there was a monastery on site and how pretty it was. Does anyone have any idea what I am talking about?
>>2840490im the op, just spitballing but i have been to a monestary near barcelona once, it was called monserrat i think, like the opera lady, but dunno if you meant that
>>2840493I don't recall the name but I might recall a picture. This was 20 years ago. I just remember it being unearthly beautiful and it was basically just sort of a long bus stop and I thought, wow I wish I could come back here.
>>2840496well good thing google existswas it this one?
Last September, I flew into Madrid and did a bunch of cities in Andalusia. Stop for a day in Toledo. It's small, so a day is fine. Cordoba and Seville are better for longer stays. I'd also highly recommend driving up to Rhonda. Do a little detour and see Setenil de las Bodegas. Zahara and Arcos are both awesome little stops.
>>2840533hmm I don't remember that (wasn't that big I don't think) or a gorge that bigI remember looking out, and the monastery was on the left, and there was this vast green expanse straight ahead in the distanceWhat I do remember was that it seemed to be in a very rural area.
>>2840601i have 12 days so i think i have to skip a bit sadly, i arrive and leave in malaga. so i dont know if i will have the time for everythink, i want to stay atleast 2-3 nights at one place. While its day i want to drive to sites away from the city, and at the evening i want to be in the city where i sleep. But i think i will stay more on the eastern side andalucia. But i have been to sevilla and rhonda and toledo once. So they arent my priority. Maybe i can catch one of the smaller cities you mentioned. Would like to visit algeciras atleast once. But it was with my family and my father speaks spanish fluently, so dunno how i will fare. But i checked in the internet and most stuff got way more expensive. Alhambra for example costs now atleast thrice as much as when i was there last time, so i will stick more to nature and geographical stuff i think
I'm hijacking this thread. I'll be going to Malaga from 24 to 30 December as a solo traveler, basically to escape Christmas at home. I've got day trips planned to Granada and Cordoba on the 26th and 28th respectively. In Malaga itself I'm planning to visit the botanical garden, the Alcazaba & Gibralfaro.Otherwise I'll generally walk around and explore the city, the cathedral, the food market, the beach, etc... probably end up getting drunk most days.Museo Picasso and Centre Pompidou are both candidates as well. Any other tips or suggestions? I'll be staying at a hostel. I'm a bit worried about finding places to eat on the 24th and 25th.
>>2840831do you care for flamenco? maybe you can check out some tableos as evening activity
>>2840834Good idea, anon. I'm more into the music than the dancing but seems fun nonetheless.
>>2840831In MalagaAv. de Velázquez, 24. bring $60.Romolo y Remo PizzeríaKimchibowl In CordobaBar La BicicletaCasa Pedro Ximénez
>>2840866Redpill me in detail on Av. de Velázquez, 24. What will 60 EUR get me?
>>2840831Caminito del Rey is epic. Far better than walking around yet another old building.https://www.caminitodelrey.info/en/Malaga's great for drinking.Cordoba's very nice. Obviously you're doing la Mezquita. Just get yourself lost in the old streets. It's kinda magical. Long Rock club in Cordoba is a decent night spot with rock music and a fun crowd.Day trips are going to be ogre. You'll kill days on trains. Can't you stay in Cordoba or Granada for 2 nights to soak it up? Cities will be organising shit over xmas, like:https://www.turismodecordoba.org/cordoba-is-christmas-christmas-programme-in-cordoba
>>2841100>Caminito del reyYes wanted to do this but it's pretty far and difficult to reach without a car. Might still do it if I can hitch a ride from hostel or something. Looks amazing. I already booked train/bus for day trips. It's not too bad, around 1h each way. Accomodation was very expensive there in comparison somehow and a bit of a hassle with the luggage.
>>2840776>Would like to visit algecirasI'm not sure what there is to see in algeciras, but you can go to Tarifa and take a quick 1h ferry to Tangier, Morocco. Beautiful place (chaotic as well), very different from what you'll see in spain. I would actually recommend you do a night or two in Tangier, but even a day would be good too. There's also another ferry from Algeciras, but that one drops you off not in the city of Tangier but in the industrial port, which is maybe 1 hour away from Tangier. The Tarifa ferry drops you off right in the center of the city. Please come back with pics if you do go to Tangier! If you're in Sevilla, you're also just 2hrs away from Faro in Portugal, also an amazing place.
>>2841161honestly i dont care much about the city agleciras itself, i just want to see the strait, ive narrowed my plan down. I think after my arrival in malagua i will immediatly stay like 3-4 nights in granada, because of my car i will be able to make a daytrip to the desert tabeas then like 3-4 nights in cordoba and the last 3-4 days in malaga. from there i will make daytrips down to ronda and algeciras/tarifa but i think i will just take a hike at the coastline, dont know if i have the time for morroco, and all i know of tangier is either from my older brother who just smoked a shitload of weed there or from william s burroughs and that doesnt paint a good picture lmao. Would like to keep my wallet, camera and sanity
A couple gems I discovered by accident are Castellar de la Fronterra and Vejer. Tarifa is sublime, and the coastal drive to get there.
>>2841229>Tarifathe city itself or the area around it? Because looking around on Google Maps, Tarifa looks like an absolute dump
>>2841232The central old town and the surrounding nature. Yes, there's a big dumpy suburb. But there's nothing like sipping wine on a castle rampart while watching individual street lights turn on in Africa. While I'm posting ITT, can someone tell me is there any reason to visit Cadiz? For one of the oldest cities in Spain doesn't look like there's anything to see there.
>>2841312>watching individual street lights turn on in Africa.Funny, talking to the locals in Tangier, they all look towards Tarifa like the promised land, they admire its lights, they watch the spanish TV channels as much as they can.Cadiz is supposed to have a beautiful historical center, plus some great beaches for the summer.
>>2841312I went to Cadiz on my road trip last year. I wouldn't go out of my way to see Cadiz, but it's totally worthwhile if it's on your route. The old town is pretty small, but it's nice. You can just wander around and enjoy it. The Cathedral is really impressive, one of the best I've ever seen. We also climbed the tower. The beach is Cadiz is great. We stayed in the Bahia hotel and it was the tits. Infinity pool amazing view, big ass beach, boardwalk with food, nice area. If you're taking trains, skip it and do this instead on the high sped routes from Madrid.
>>2840490Could be Monasterio de Piedra
