What was air travel like before 9-11?

In the US? Way, way, way more relaxed. It's gotten better since Obama was elected and especially since the destruction of ISIS, but I don't think it will ever be as easy going as it was before.
>>
just metal detectors and I think taking keys and metal out of your pocket and putting it in a bin and having that inspected
it was a lot less formal and strict and I miss it
and not being able to bring water on a flight is ridiculous and harmful and should never have existed as a policy for this long and I am convinced only exists to sell more alcohol on flights.

I don't know about before, but I do remember shortly after.

For some time, they did not allow anything that was the least bit sharp. Not even cartridge razors and nail clippers.
Not only is this no longer the case, nowadays you can even find TSA-approved scissors and knives. But there was this brief moment in time where they were a lot more restrictive.

the only real difference is you didn't have to take your shoes off or separate your laptop. also people (family) would hang out at the gate for departures and arrivals so it was more crowded. that's actually the one nice change. now you just have passengers.
>>
You used to be able to go the gate with folks.

hole up
you could bring water and there wasn't weird rules for liquids
humans don't last very long without water
denying water to passengers is cruel
and just overall there wasn't the "TSA" and it was less strict
>>

>or separate your laptop
how many people were really carrying around laptops in 2001?
>>
>>2840630
I got my first laptop as a teen in 2003, and business travelers and college students had them before then.

Security was basically a metal detector and they might glance inside your bag real quick. They didn’t even x-ray the carryons. Checked bags might be looked through real quick maybe x-rayed if the airport was bigger.

Like riding a bus in the sky. You could see straight into the cockpit from the passenger seat. Kids were allowed to visit the pilots
>>
>>2840619
>take your shoes off
Always thought that was some movie shit or maybe you had to do that only for some random checks since I'd never seen it as a European. Crazy that Americans put up with that for 20 years.
>>
>>2840630
they were already common by the mid 90s
>>
It was common to invite kids to see the cockpit during the flight. Glad I'm old enough to have experienced that.
>>

Oh yeah I remember that scene in Airplane. Back in the day you could go up to the cockpit and the pilot would offer to show you what a grown man looked like naked

Being zenphobic is being a survivalist.
>>
I tried flying back from Disneyworld with a pirate blunderbuss from the gift shop. Security tried to take it, I cried, they let me have it back.
Also family who wasn't traveling could go with you right up to the gate.

My favourite part about 9/11 was the fact that Larry Silverstein, the owner along with his son coincidentally took the day off on the day of the attacks. And then tried to get double the insurance cashout for each plane that hit. Oh well, Israel is our GREATEST ALLY.
>>
>>2840598
you can buy a waterbottle after you go throught tsa and bring it on the plane anon
>>
>>2841319
>And then tried to get double the insurance cashout for each plane that hit. Oh well, Israel is our GREATEST ALLY.
they did get paid twice, they claimed the first plane was one terrorist attack and the second plane was a second terrorist attack and got like 4 billion dollars instead of 2
>>

the shamelessness is kinda impressive

Do you have a source for that other than a twitter screenshot you saw on /pol/?
>>
>>2841306
>radical muslim
Lol. Why does this guy make /pol/cels seethe so much? Why do you hate affordable housing and childcare?
>>
>>2841592
why not just hand over governance to China? respecting local culture is important, and 'radical islam' is a tautology.
>>
>>2840574
It was way better before radical Islam showed up, just like everything else.
>>
>>2840964
oh yeah, you better buy fresh socks too to not embarass yourself
