Worth visiting Azores/Madeira if you can't rent a car?

My license is less than a year old, all companies want it to be at least 1-2 years old before you can rent.

wouldn't be advisable

Madeira is a better than the Azores
or got better in recent years
their bus network technically covers most if the island(s)
but it's still not great

you'll be missing a lot of the cool spots
and timing a rarely driving bus while hiking is stressful
unless of course you don't care about spending on Taxis

hitchhiking works but sluggishly
no comparison to continental Europe

so why not just wait a year and then go?

no
unless you want lots of dead time and and a huge bill from the taxi companies

your only bet is going to one of the smaller islands and renting an ebike
did it a couple months ago in Porto Santo
had a fantastic day and saw the entire island
but thats it
its good for 3 days at most and thats if you spend 2 at the beach

I decided to go to Madeira for a week.
I saw online they had quite a few bus tours to the more popular places. I will try that.

What do you guys think, should I go for Airbnb or Hotel (X2 more expensive).

Could be a silly statement but you should just rent a 50cc scooter?

I went to Madeira for 2 weeks with my ex-gf and we didn't rent a car. Primary activity was hiking and we managed to get to the trailheads, and from town to town, by local buses. Wasn't too bad, although it would have been a lot more efficient to drive. For Pico Grande, the best hike we did there, we had to get a taxi to the trailhead, which was cheap. Other than that it was a matter of organization, making sure we were catching the buses on time and all that. Madeira was very affordable and an A tier hiking destination, would go back for a longer stay
