are road trips overrated? what are your road trip experiences?I feel tempted to just fuck off to balkans or some of the -stans, rent a car and drive around the mountains and smaller citiesthe freedom to go wherever whenever seems great but on the other hand I can see it devolving into just starting at the road half of the day and being exhausted from driving most of the time
One of the best places in the US to road trip for cheap is Utah. You can camp for free on any BLM land. There are 1000's of free campsites in beautiful areas. Most of them are empty. Utah has some of the best National Parks and Natonal Monuments in the US. Zion, Bryce, Arches, Canyonlands, Capitol Reef, Escalante, are all amazing. There are really great state parks too. The scenery is amazing through the whole state. You can snowboard at Brianhead for $15 a day during the week in the winter. Outside of Salt Lake City, the state is like 95 percent white and there's very little crime. You fly in and out of Vegas, rent a car for 2 weeks for around $300.
>>2845530nice
its boring with a cute girlfriend
Nothing compares to the US, specifically the American west.
>>2845597the eastern United States is actually the more scenic partI'm about to leave for a road trip!Make sure you have proper tires if you go places in winter.
>>2845516>are road trips overrated? No, you just live in a shithole called Europe
>>2845696For me, it's shithole roads like this:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQXubjlLkBs
>>2845699Better view:https://youtu.be/R01RuwD39Oo?si=gJZjwHuVp-kPHXwp&t=1157
>>2845696>What are the Alps>What are the Pyrenees>What are the Dinarics>What is ScandinaviaEurope's fine lol.
>>2845705Europe pales in comparison to China. The entire continent of Europe quite literally can not compare to the singular country called China when it comes to nature and biodiversity. Europeans also have genocided mot of their wildlife except the neutered pussy animals. The mountains of europe can't even compete with what China has either.
>>2845710Which road trip routes would you recommend out there? Can imagine shit in Xinjian, Yunnan and Tibet being fucking kino. Surely they have some well trodden routes.
>>2845516Road trips are a relic from a time when gas was cheap and Americans had friends.Doing one in 2025 blows
It depends on how you plan it (I'm going to xyz vs I'm going to drive on these roads and guess I'll stop over at xyz) and what car you take (a kia soul will be a far worse experience than a mustang ragtop)If you're not pulling a trailer then you should consider it mandatory to take a convertible or two if it's a larger family trip
>>2845613I've lived on the east and west coast and traveled to nearly every state in the US. The western United States absolutely shreds anything back east. There is just no comparing anything on the east coast to Yosemite, Yellowstone, the Grand Canyon or Arches. >>2845696You've never been to Europe. You've been to Gatlinburg. Stick to your lane and don't talk about things you've never experienced.
>>2845753>muh overcrowded national parksEastern deciduous forests and historic city centers are better than the West. Eastern springtime and autumn mogs the West as well. Eastern Americans are less pretentious and neurotic than in the western states, hence their lower suicide rates. However, if you're American, you should really enjoy a roadtrip in southern Europe.
>>2845753> to Yosemite, Yellowstone, the Grand Canyon or Arches. You've never been to the west coast. You simply googled the top tourist dests and picked those. Yosemite is incredibly overrated compared to King's Canyon. Yellowstone is mostly boring as fuck and you're much better off going to Glacier, Teton's, Wind River range. Grand Canyon is by far the most boring park to out there and anywhere in SE Utah would be better. Arches is cool once and that's about it.
>>2845721learn to hypermile nigga- wayne gerdes
>>2845814jk im not wayne. but honestly, it's never been easier to learn how to sleep in your car and stay at cheap campsites. buy a sleeping pad with high R value (anything above 5) from naturehike around $150 (don't bother with name brands since china numba 1) and get a synthetic sleeping bag (0/-20 F are usually under $250).
>>2845530Won’t be 95% white for long. The population there is exploding
>>2845781I’m gonna be honest, driving in the fall in the North East can’t be beat.
>>2845826That's just a road in some trees. You're easily impressed. You should get out more. Here's Tioga Pass through Yosemite.
>>2845516no road trips are great
>>2845516i imagine scotland is nice
>>2845781>>2845826Any recommendations for winter in northeast? Was thinking about driving up to mystic or newport?
>>2845932Winter is a terrible time for a road trip in the northeast. Bad weather. Too cold to get out and hike. No leaves on the trees. Just go skiing instead and stay in a nice ski town. If the weather is going to be freezing, might as well be able to enjoy it on the mountain skiing.
I lived in my car for 5 months and did a circle of the US. It was great but I must say that being essentially homeless causes psychic damage. This was offset by getting out of my parents’ place, so overall great for my mental.I agree with Utah. If you are “outdoorsy” I highly recommend getting a “backcountry permit” for the various national parks. Its actually worth learning how to sleep in a tent etc just for the US parks. Eg Yosemite valley is amazing but is very crowded. A hike up to the plateau and it was empty except the bears and requisite German hikers. However, I don’t know about renting a car, it’s expensive and the best thing about my roadtrip was how cheap it was given that I already owned a reliable car. I rented in Ireland and felt like I was wasting money if I traveled at my normal slow pace. Also, hitchhiking exists in the US. The average American will find a random Euro hitchhiker very interesting. Just be prepared to wait several hours and even give up for the night.Traveling sucks overall, but if you have the fire that you “need” to do it, then trust me and literally just go, don’t plan
>>2846024its not too cold you just have to wear layers, its funny that people will spend thousands on fancy ski gear but the idea of actually hiking in winter is beyond mostskiiing costs a lot of money and its dangerous
>>2846333Beta male. You can snowboard at Brianhead in Utah, Lee Canyon in Vegas and Snowbowl in Flagstaff Arizona for $15 in the winter. They're all great. Lot's of free and cheap camping and inexpensive motels near all of them.
>>2845696when i went to portugal and Spain, i had alot of fun going on a road trip
The best roadtrips I've done were in Morocco and Oman. All wild camping, and with the girlfriend. It's a very detached way of interacting with the country, and for that reason I wouldn't do it alone, would be way too lonely. That's also why camping is a necessity; if you're just driving between hotels I wouldn't even call that travel.Obviously I like deserts. For the Morocco trip we rented a car with decent speakers and listened to Tinariwen's entire discography during the days we were driving through the desert. In Oman we only played Moby for some reason.>>2845720Do you want to motorbike the Karakoram in April with me anon? Serious question. Rentals cost about $15-20/day.>>2845877>big mountain goodI've lived on both coasts and I'd take a misty path thru a forest of sugarmaples over some crowded, sun-bleached trail in a pine monoculture
>>2846208I wouldn't go so far as to call it psychic damage, but it does make you feel alienated from the American culture of comfortable privileged affluence. Which is why I always disliked encountering other homeless car dwellers, because seeing them living in squalor in their beat-up old cars destroyed my own self-image of a unique adventurer who does what nobody else dares to do.>>2846333Walking in the woods in wintertime can be amazingly tranquil, especially after fresh snow. However, the general lack of wildlife and greenery cannot be ignored. Hike New England in a wet June, however, and you'll realize why the trailheads are all empty. The pest insects are an absolute plague. That's a problem you don't encounter in the cold months. >>2848148Whenever I go on a roadtrip with somebody else, they are always impatient to wrap it up and part ways. Enduring my company for any extended period of time really makes them dislike me...which is why I have embraced solo travel so resolutely, refusing even to go on daytrip outings with other people as a general rule.>>2845877I likewise enjoy the eastern forests more than the Instagram hotspots of the west, for the same reason as anon does. They are more biodiverse, more akin to the forests of my ancestral Europe, and free of annoying tourists who couldn't care less about nature and only want to take pictures for bragging rights.
>>2848388>daytrip outingseither the people you hang out with are super retarded or your retarded if you cant handle going places with someone for less then a day
