I'm going to visit this country for a week next summer. 3 days in Skopje (one day will be a tour of Kosovo, the other day I'll go to Matka Canyon, and the other day I'll just explore the city) and 3 days in Ohrid. I'll probably just chill in Ohrid, do some hiking and swimming. I'm going to stay in hostels and I won't be renting a car.Have any of you been? Any suggestions, thoughts?
Also, how is the public transport? Is it as difficult as Albania or is it more typical European, or somewhere in-between?
>>2848858Ohrid is very cute. Definitely spend a day getting a boat around the lake (look on GoogleMaps for the route). Lake Ohrid is the 'Macedonian Rivieria' and there's villages scattered along the coast you can get a boat to.St Naum Monastery is the famous destination which is cool for a daytrip. You've also got the Galicica National Park around here, which are the mountains between the 2 lakes. Hostel I was in was chill, can't quite remember the name. It was the 'popular one', so I'm guessing it was Sunset Lake. Had a great fun crowd (most big Balkan hostels are A**** tier). Can't remmeber much about public transport other than the faggots at bus stations charge a 'platform tax' in cash to get on to the platform, and everything has to be a paper ticket (maybe this has changed). I went Ohrid - Bitola - Skopje and can't remmeber having problems with connections.
>>2848915Thanks anon, I found a ferry that takes me to and from St. Naum so I'm definitely going to do that. Blue Lake Hostel has great reviews so I'll be staying in that one probably.I found busses from Skopje to and from Ohrid so I think public transport will be fine.I just need to figure out a way to go hiking
I went to Skopje, Ohrid, and Pristina (Kosovo)>SkopjeIt's okay, not big nor a large amount to see. The government wasted a lot of money on the centre so it is quite developed and pleasant with large statues. I enjoyed going around the fortress but it is just a bunch of ruins. The Museum of National Struggle is interesting but very weird, bunch of waxworks>OhridYou can get a bus here from Skopje, at the central bus station. I also bought my sim here and it was far cheaper than the airport. I think the bus was like 3 hoursI liked Ohrid a lot, very nice place, loads of churches, make sure to see Church of Saints Clement and Panteleimon and the colosseum. It's not huge, 3 days is plenty. Also has another fortress you can climb up>PristinaNicer than I expected. If you have a tour then I'm guessing it will be Pristina rather than Prizren. Recommend the cathedral and ruins of the unbuilt Orthodox one if you have time. There is also an infamously ugly library. If you like history, near to Pristina is Gazimestan (monument for medieval battlefield) and a tomb for an Ottoman Sultan. Pristina had good nightlife too
>>2849023>PristinaSurprisingly decent nightlife in the centre on that bar street.
>>2849023Thanks for the adviceThe tour is going to Pristina and Prizren.I'm writing down your suggestions for Ohrid.I'm not expecting much from Skopje, more of a base to see Kosovo and Matka Canyon, but I'm easily pleased and I like weird Eastern European places so I'm sure I'll have a good time
>>2848858shit quality pic but I was in Ohrid for a couple days. great chill place.
>>2848858I can vouch that Ohrid is definitely the nicest part of the country with Struga, some great views and not too big so they're relaxing. Skopje isn't too remarkable and neither are the other cities for the most part unless you're interested in Ottoman/Albanian stuff on the Western side.
>>2849062Thats a nice picture anon>>2849460Yeah I'd cut a day in Skopje but I really want to see Matka Canyon and Kosovo and it's a perfect base for that.So arrival day + Kosovo day + Matka Canyon day.
my ancestors (I'm American) are from a small village near Florina Greece in what is now politically Greece. It would be nice to visit but jeez what a long flight.
>>2849469>letting a long flight stop youPlease don't let that be the determining factor
>>2849477im not going anywhere without weed
>>2849479That's very sad to hear. I hope you can overcome this addiction
>>2849500its harmless to anyone around me, the problem is other people wanting to get violent and yell at me for transporting my medicine through planes and trains and automobiles
>>2849502It's harmful to YOU because it's holding you back from living your dreams. When your old, would you rather have memories of going to Greece, or memories of staying inside and smoking weed all the time?
>>2849596you can go outside and drink weed all the time tooits not that different from alcohol which is not regulated nearly as strictly
>>2849597You are missing the point.Letting weed stop you from traveling is sad, and is something you will come to regret.Traveling is more stimulating than weed anyway
