What's the pic/title about? Does dogen pronounce Tokyo that way? I thought it was Tōkyō with a flat pitch.
>>
>>2849027
He always pronounce every word in a super weird and cringe way. No japanese accentuates pitch accents like he does, example
https://youtu.be/0WpkQTtHUyg?si=UC2pXt9QOtahqKK0&t=158

This shit is linguistic blackface.
>>
>>2849027
>>2849028
Maybe it's just skill issue and my gaijin brain still isn't used to that, but in daily conversations the japanese speak so fast that there's is no way to even tell between elongated きょう or just きょ, let alone whether the pitch is going in right direction

I studied in Tokyo a few years back and after a few times visiting since then in the last 3 years I got sick of the place.

There’s other good places, I mean Osaka is fairly similar but I didn’t mind Fukuoka or Sapporo.
>>
>>2849028
he's skilled at japanese, but people really over-compliment his pronunciation. he still sounds like a foreigner.
>>
>>2849132
His conversational japanese is nice, he was interviewed by Takashii once.
But in his videos he's too much. He must do 10 takes every time.
>>

>soundsexcitingrightokayguyslessgo
I have him muted/blocked, too annoying.
>>
>>2849033
textbook versus reality is always tricky
>>
>>2849033
It's genuinely fucked up how Japanese can pick up in very slight differences between words like that in rapid speech. It is something that I see often, that someone says something and then the other person says "eh? Did you say (something similar)" and it's just like them making the う sound for 0,1 picoseconds
>>
So how much shit actually closes for the week around NYE? Hotel prices are goin up for those few days. I might just sleep in the streets

surely there is more in tokyo than yoshiwara and kabukicho

what should i see on my second trip to japan? i was there for a month and went to kyoto, osaka, nara, hakone, tokyo, and okinawa

Go to fujiyoshida, its now my new favourite place and im going back there again for my 3rd trip.
And enoshima too.

Being next to GIANT MOUNTAIN was one part of it.
The air is incredibly tasty and always a good temperature.
It's civilized enough to have a bookoff, but also rural enough to have forest tracks.
Onsens.
Biking.

I didn't see many and i went in april, then again i dont pay them much attention anyway.

Ok shit cause I had one day and night in Kawagachiko and it was a tad too blown out with people for my likings. Maybe ill give er a whirl on this trip
Im wanting to check out some good forests and so far all I got on my list is Hokokuji bamboo forest

Anyone have any luck hanging out with some burger or EU tourist roasties???

Is this place doable for a solo travel or will it be full of instagram bitches and their cuck boyfriends?
>>
>>2849332
It was mostly the bus station that was disgustingly full of "people"
The walk by the lake wasnt too infested , but it was too gloomy to see Fuji
The food spots i found were mediocre
Its probabaly a lot cooler when fuji appears, which is probabably the only real purpose of going to this town
Where have u been so far that u can reccomend to a lil nigga?

2/10, i would not go again
>>
>>2849333
I've been on lake Kawaguchiko but not near the Chureito Pagoda.
All i remember is that it was fucking sad (full of old people and there was nothing to do except walk around the sad lake), but it was a long time ago.
I guess i'll skip it altogether next time.

Kawaguchiko was one of the highlights of my trip alongside Enoshima. Eating icecream while feeling the cold wind and looking at Fuji as the sun was setting was an amazing experience. The lake and the autum colors were also incredible. I personally would not skip Fujikawaguchiko if you've never been before. Just make sure to keep a flexible schedule so that you can go when the weather is clear to not end up like this >>2849333 retard. The view of Fuji really is something else.
>>
anyone else been bit disappointed by Tokyo or am I just retarded?
>>
>>2849423
What are you interested in? I've pretty much seen all the popular ones around Tokyo, try lesser known neighborhoods.
>>
>>2849423
Try harder. What have you done so far?
>>

I'm already back but thanks. I did some car stuff, visited couple of museums and daikoku parking which itself was great, but other than that it just feel like every big city.
Maybe I spoiled myself a bit because it was my last stop on a 3 week trip so I felt like the smaller cities felt way more "japanese" than tokyo
I guess I might not just enjoy big cities so much,
>>

Hokkaido Aomori and Akita
>>
Whats with all the talk about Tokyo being having amazing food? I know your guy's favorite travel writer hyped it up, but all ive found to be good is the steaks and sure the ramen is easy and yummy

How do I find better food? Google isnt helping

I always thought he was highly regarded in Japanese.
>>
>>2849028
It sounds like maybe he's emphasising it to help learners pick up the pronunciation. He is a teacher right?
>>
Kobe or Matsuyama for a short road trip sometime in the next 2 weeks? Don't care about chinks, mainly want to avoid Western tourists.
>>
>>2849003
Why do all JET/ALTs have this near AIDS and /or extremely low test ridden look?
I hear him talking about his shit time being an English teacher and like wonder why the fuck would you put up that?
There are so many jobs here (especially with the military bases) low end and high that pay 4x over what an "Eeengurish" teacher makes in the Japan.
The only benefit if being an ALT is honestly if your a pedo/coomer and you teach H.S Students. Yeah I know not all ALTS fuck their students but its so prevalent and obvious its a joke within that community
>>
ITT Live in Japan for work but really dont have alot of time to explore because im so busy/training working out.
Im staying in Okayama which so far to me is kinda boring. But I know tenchi Muyo was based here. I have my own bike and take the ferry to Naoshima island aka
>>2849470
Its because they eat shit diets becuase of the hours and low pay of the work. You can sustain on kombini food exclusively. It may not be as processed as the corner store slop in the US but it's still slop.
>>
Stupid fucking OP image is going to keep derailing the thread repeteadly, awesome

>why do certain archtypes look the same
Your probabaly asking this question in a rhetorical sense and its your way of communicating that angers you
To answer your question ...certain people hold certain looks because of there genetic and hormonal levels that have been shaped since they were in the womb and then of course mix in their traumas and hardships and how they are handled is what forms people into certain personalitys and physiques. At least thats my understanding , if you have a better theory, please ellaborate

And you also have to realize $ probabaly doesnt really matter for most of them, hence the reason they are okay with taking a shit paying job and then also realize they have had this dream of teaching children their whole life, so even if it sucks. They will stick with it for awhile or forever
Hope your having fun in JP

No if you actually live and work here there is a phenotype that stereotypically works here in those jobs. As far as passion over money even with that accounted its still a raw deal. If you really wanna teach language in Japan there are far better and less exploitative opportunities.
>>
>>2849473
>and then also realize they have had this dream of teaching children their whole life, so even if it sucks. They will stick with it for awhile or forever
This is entirely false. The dream of the average engurishu teacher is 'I want to escape being a loser back home and get a JP wife and never go back to where I came from'. The reason those programs can pay such awful wages consistently is because the supply of losers-back-home that want to escape to animeland is massive compared to the demand for them. That's why they all look dysgenic and weird, because being an english teacher is basically the lowest hanging fruit for ways to live in Japan legally.
>>
>>2849482
>entirely false
Okay you know theres at least 1 person out there that has dreamt it up since they saw bulmas tits when they were 6
I should of also said "some people have the dream of ..."
Anyway, lets talk less about why losers are losers, and more about how to win while were in Japan
>>2849474
Tell us about why chads look like chads

If you enjoy classical music, checkout the Lion cafe in Shibuya
>>
>>2849306
I shouldve said I did go to the Fujikawaguchiko area. I wouldnt going again for a an onsen hotel for a few days in yamanashi though.

>>2849441
i want to go to hokkaido it looks great. what did you find in aomori and akita anon?
>>
>>2849423
i sort of know what you mean. i think it depends on if you like big cities, but also where you stay, what you do, and if youre with people. if you really want that big city feel you gotta stay close to the big areas and do all the normie things: go to cool bars, night clubs, high end dining, alleys for street food, cool shopping stores, cafes

i found people in tokyo a bit more reserved. i also noticed its hard to appreciate the size and scale of tokyo because of underground transit, you hop into one station and then 20 minutes later youre somewhere else in the city without really seeing all the stuff inbetween. i took a few ubers and it felt like i got to appreciate the city more

Is Izu peninsula worth it? I've been looking at luxury beach resorts around central Japan but found only a few around Atami, am I looking wrong or there are just not so many of them between Osaka and Tokyo?
>>
>>2849423
Yes. However, I really wanted some specific merch in Akihabara. I should have just visited for a day and spent the rest of my trip outside Tokyo instead of basing myself there.
>>
>>2849423
I was very disappointed by Kyoto, the supposed city of culture, but it was very underwhelming. Tokyo, however, was almost everything I dreamed of it to be. I think Osaka was better but only because I had an easier time finding good food there, whereas in Tokyo I never found a place that hit the spot properly. I would definetely spend a few days again in Tokyo if revisiting, but not as long as I spent on my first trip obviously.
>>
>>2849492
That's pretty dumb because Osaka also has a anime merch district and it was about the same as Akihabara imo. I also went to some stores in Kanazawa and found some super niche stuff for amazing prices. You don't need Akihabara.
>>
>>2849496
Thanks for the insult? I was looking for some specific doujinshi that were only available in Akihabara.

Not just any vague anime stores will do.
>>
>>2849506
nta but the whole point of actually staying in akiba is to explore every nook and cranny for whatever otaku goods you discover or want. i'm staying in akiba right now so i can do that and then do day trips to nearby cities to look for more otaku shit. if this wasn't what you expected, than none of us know what to tell you.
>>
>>2849507
