Singapore is the worst fucking country you could go within the entire region of Southeast Asia
>Experiences
The fuck do you even experience over here? Most people don't want to speak to you in the first place
>Buildings
There aren't any, the one good building is a war memorial, there are no battlefield sites, this country has no history
>Women
The men here all go for Vietnamese women instead
>Public transport
The public transport here was excellent, I'll give them that
>Stores
Food, tech, and a few bars, that's it, no libraries, nothing, it's fucking empty
>Food
Arguably one of the few good things about the country, but if you don't follow their specific rules, they'll fine you
>Culture
They use a dialect of English that sounds retarded
>Chinese
They don't speak Chinese over there
>Geylang
Overpriced, Thailand is cheaper and the women are nicer over in Chiang Mai
>Nature
It's a concrete jungle
>Beaches
Indonesia and Vietnam were better
>Currency
Expensive for zero reason, even the hostels were expensive
>Friends
Just head over to Malaysia or Indonesia, people in Singapore are weirdly hostile
If anybody can tell me about somewhere I could go to over here I'll go there, but holy fuck, this country sucks
Save your money and go to the Philippines or Dubai instead

Singaporeans are going through their own economic bubble, just like Japan did in the 1980s. They think their value is equal to Switzerland's and their GDP per capita is the same, but there's no foundation to it. Switzerland has actual value and makes things of value. It can survive independently. Singapore is growing exponentially but there's no reason for that growth. It's entirely dependent on Malaysia in all ways for its continued existence. It's in for a brutal mogging by its neighbors when that bubble pops in the next few years. Its only value is in being the only somewhat developed city in a 100 mile radius, just like Hong Kong was in the 90s. At least Hong Kong has the backing of a mainland with 1.4 billion people. Singapore only has a somewhat OK airport and a brand of (imported) potato chips.

Singapore is going to be fucked so hard. People have predicted it's collapse since the 70s but it seems more and more likely over time.

I'm out of the loop, why do people hate Singapore so much? Is there a tier list?
>>
>>2849965
as far as i can tell its a weird mix of things
basically you have a high income city-state, surrounded by another country and as far as I can figure out it sort of functions as a vassal state for china like a luxembourg that somehow does things that wouldn't be allowed in mainland china or there's some sort of incentive to do it in singapore instead

so you get this dense metropolis of people, and it was a british colony so they are kinda stuck up but they are still dumb insect people so you get all the disadvantages of that and I guess it's not muslim but it's surrounded by people who are and they similarly have an ultra strict behavioral and legal code

i guess its sort of the combination of having so much money and being so smug about it yet being kinda primitive and backwards that makes people rage
>>
>>2849965
Would you travel across the world to visit Des Moines, Iowa? What about Des Moines where it's ridiculously hot and humid all year? What about Des Moines but it's confined to a 20 mile wide space and there's absolutely nothing beyond that area? What about Des Moines with even less to do? Add in the fact that everyone there has the attitude of a Wall Street finance worker obsessed with money and a Los Angeles influencer who feels the need to flaunt their every basic ass daily routine. Their only activities involve getting money and talking about getting more money. And with that money, they do absolutely nothing interesting. Also, they think their country is the most important place in the world. Any modest claim that there isn't much to do compared to neighboring countries always, without exception, results in Singaporeans flooding in and saying
>YEAH WELL YOU'RE JUST RACIST AND HATE TO SEE ASIANS WITH MONEY. YOU ONLY GO TO ASIA TO SEE POOR PEOPLE
They simply cannot resist talking about having money. The entire country is built on the idea that it's an Asian country with money, and because they have money, everyone should go and visit so they can see the money that Singaporeans have. It's a pyramid scheme of a country.

Stayed in Singapore for a few days to top off a backpacking trip through Asia. It's of course very clean, organized, quiet, not too crowded, and fully developed which made it a god send for me after going through India. Food was good and you can eat for SEA prices if you stick to hawker centers. Botanical garden was nice and I liked the old colonial architecture. I stayed in a pretty good quality pod hostel though it was a bit overpriced imho. Overall I think it's an interesting place and it's worth checking out if you're already in the region but I agree with the other anon that it's definitely not worth flying to the other side of the world for.

You could always go to the Chinatown food street in Singapore for some next-level food, too.
Get this, bro. Singapore's national dish is chicken AND rice! Crazy, I know, but you HAVE to try it. Who would have thought to serve chicken AND rice together? A real culinary treat. You've really got to hand it to them for creating such a unique dish.
Seriously though, in many ways, chicken and rice is the perfect national dish to represent singapore. It's bland, dull, and better variations of it can be found in nearly every other country.
>>
>>2850011
congratulations anon, you have discovered that peasant food is not necessarily exceptional
however, if you are going to be a dick, i will point out singapore had the first street food stalls to be awarded michelin stars, and before you inevitably bitch about michelin stars being expensive/corporate/overrated/whatever else poor people like to bitch about to make themselves feel better, consider that it is the cheapest michelin star food in the world.

I've been to a few of the cheap Michelin spots and they're never anything special. I've realized that they're all, without except, places that are very accessible to someone doing an 6 hour layover in a city, their presentation is OK for the price, and the flavor is inoffensive to upper middle aged white people with sensitive taste buds. And without fail, there's always a much better restaurant serving the same type of food just right next door with higher quality ingredients and much better flavor.

Higher tier Michelin restaurants, sure, they're fine. But the cheap spots really are not worth visiting. All they mean is
>this restaurant is a reliable 7/10 if you happen to be in this area

These threads are nothing but mega bait done by people who 'made it' living okay in SEA off the 4% rule of their lotto winnin-crypto 'investments'.

People stupidly overstay the amount of time needed in SG to get most everything "touristy" out of it. You can easily blow through nearly every museum, tourist beach/spot, and so on in about 2-3 weeks of something properly planned and getting off your ass.

Biggest shit is that unless you're willing to drop serious cash, dress nice not the 'kek real richfags like me dress like asmongold!', and do something different other than be Digital Nomad/Crypto winner; you're a dime a dozen and being white doesn't give the walking piggy bank vibe it does just a bit north. At least the air is clean, the police shut down retarded shit, food is cheap if you visit the markets like damn go to the indian food cort for some like 5 dollar a day big meals, and so on. The biggest draw to SG is that you're getting a lot of performers, goods, shows, and things you're not going to see in Johor.

Singaporeans have such an incredible inferiority complex due to being Asian. Nobody else in Asia feels the need to say "I'm Asian and RICH. Bet you can't believe that, huh?" It's like when poor people buy a $20 bottle of sparkling wine and think they're a high roller. Nobody cares. And when your only comparison is Johor, that's not exactly a high bar and definitely not something people will go out of their way to see.

2-3 weeks is also far above what people spend in Singapore before being bored. Most people have seen all they need in 2 days. They're beyond done in 3 days.
>>
>>2850169
>Most people have seen all they need in 2 days. They're beyond done in 3 days.
If you can blow through Singapore in 2-3 days to 'see everything' you are either
A) insanely stupid
B) really fucking boring and only have narrow tastes
Unless you're sonic the hedgehog levels of speed, you aren't seeing the forest bridge, enjoying the beaches, seeing the museums+Japanese leftover pillboxes, or doing any of the night life that's actually decent quality.

1/10 bait, this shit is just try hard shit to the point I can only assume if it's not bait it's a bad attempt at gatekeeping other tourists out.
>>
>>2850172
Nobody needs or wants to spend 3 weeks to go around looking at pillboxes. Nobody recommends spending even a full week in Singapore. A week in Hong Kong is a long time. Singapore doesn't even have half of what Hong Kong offers.

there's not much to go to singapore for.

it used to be that the night life was at least alive. not anymore since covid. even before that the scene was pretty shit as in boring as fuck considering singaporeans can't dance for shit so you drink and hop til it's gone and then drink again.

apart from that, obviously, there's no nature trails to even speak of. you don't go to singapore for nature. everything in singapore is artificial and fake and if you think bright lights at night is worth wasting your time to see, then maybe jingling keys in front of your face is just as entertaining.

most go singapore for work opportunities, and that's it. get your money and move on. of course, living here is also pretty good, if you can afford it.

i do have to say that the zoo, bird park, aquarium, and river safari is probably the best in the region. probably asia. that and as another anon mentioned, attend the events here. concerts, cons, etc.

no reason to go to singapore for sight seeing or holidays, unless you want to spend money on fancy hotels but then again every other country offers the same.

OP's concern about Singapore was that it doesn't make a great tourist attraction. And in many ways, I honestly agree with him.

So it's definitely great that there's a major city out there in the world that ISN'T run down, shoddy, or poor like so many major cities in the world. Even if it means it has to be governed with some twinges of authoritarianism.

But that doesn't necessarily make it fun or valuable for tourists. As discussed, a lot of calm 3rd-tier cities in "flyover" US states, like Des Moines or Sioux Falls, would be similar. In a similar manner, I believe Singapore is an excellent place to live, or maybe raise children (and 100% better than most of America if you're ethnically Chinese). And if you're some kid who's visiting Singaporean grandparents it'll definitely be fun, and a stark contrast to the US. But if you're 20 and wanting to explore the world from a hostal, get laid, or get wasted, you're better off going to Thailand or Vietnam.

I'd say Singapore is more soulless than Shanghai, Shenzhen, Chongqing, and especially Chengdu (lol). Singapore is that boring lol. On par with like Beijing and Tianjin.

A lot of the people your age or younger in Mainland China probably do understand English, but will pretend to know none, especially if you can't visibly pass as a local (like I can).

They all take the ferry to go rape literal sex slaves in indonesian brothels next door every weekend too. So you can be sure if its an indian worker in singapore, he's also been raping.

>>
>>2849949
yep, but to be fair, Singapore is still worth a visit to see what a post-capitalist soulless hyper optimized East Asian city state looks like, one legit thing it offers is well paying white collar jobs, the education system is good in terms of academics but it’s a gamble because your kids might not experience unstructured growth and relationship skills, for a single person it can be a good place to do a corporate expat stint for 1-2 years

Oh it’s also been jeeted for decades now
>>
>>2850867
>a post-capitalist soulless hyper optimized East Asian city state
yet people in Singapore are less autistic and bug-like than in a place like Japan

I don't really understand the complaints about it being "soulless". it was a small but chill destination when I visited
>>
>>2850915
soulless is a vague term that means something different for everyone, having lived in Yokohama/Tokyo for two years I think Japan is more isolating because building a relationship with locals is harder than Singapore, but Singapore is more materialistic for sure, ironically I would still rather live in Yokohama than Singapore, cost of living is more reasonable in Japan than Singapore and obviously there is more to do in Japan
>>
>>2850926
Don't most people wear T shirts in singapore? Daily wear?
>>
>>2850928
Singapore is a hot and humid climate year round, no winter or fall, monsoon season, so that’s not great, Japan has monsoon season but still gets a winter, skiing is amazing, no such thing in Singapore
>>
>>2850915
>I don't really understand the complaints about it being "soulless". it was a small but chill destination when I visited
it's largely because most of the people on here equate "asia" with their poverty tourism fantasies
an actual asian country that has a higher quality of life than they have at home breaks their minds
americans especially have weird fantasies about singapore perhaps because of that tom waits song or perhaps because they have relatives who were stationed there in the military at some point when singapore was still developing who told them tales about what they did there and somehow they are surprised when they show up and discover that modern singaporeans don't have the need to pander to them to extract cash from them like e.g. thailand or indonesia does

what is the official language of singapore? i know they have high english fluency and also many heritage chinese speakers but what language do they use for their legal and internal business decisions?

>>2850993
The fuck type of stupid comment is this? Getting citizenship is a pain in the ass almost everywhere in asia unless you are willing to marry a local and wait 10 years+ to be naturalized.

Think before you type some dumb shit you retard.
>>
>>2851057
It's a shit ranking because why is travel the main criterion? If you have any of the "4th place" passports you can literally LIVE anywhere you want in Europe FOREVER. If you have a Singaporean passport you can live in Singapore.

So you made up a bullshit claim and now you're triggered because you're wrong. 10 years for citizenship is common. And many Asian countries don't even require 10 years. You're just retarded and don't know what you're talking about. But yes. Get angry. Dumb people tend to do that when they're wrong. Try calming down. You're frustrated. :)
>>
>>2850915
Japan has incredible geography, so even if you don't like interacting with Japanese people, you can have the time of your life exploring the landforms. Singapore's geography is objectively trash. The coastline is disgusting swamp, and the interior has no topography. All you have is a city and its suburbs.

My rule of thumb, you have to have spending power equivalent to or greater than the median income to have a good time visiting any country and not feel like a poorfag penny-pincher. In Singapore, the median salary is $5200 USD per month. That's well outside the range of most leisure travelers on this board. By comparison, Malaysia's median salary is $665 per month, enabling a traveler to feel comfortably well-off on a mere $30 per day.
>>2850938
Lower salaries and less formal employment creates more interesting streets for the casual visitor. Instead of everyone being an office wagie drone huuurrying to and from their oh-so-important jobs, people are out on the streets finding all sorts of creative ways to make a living. And yeah, we all "fantasize" about paying $30 per night for a nice room instead of $230 per night. It's perfectly natural to feel offended by the price-gouging which occurs when there is way too much fuckin' money chasing too few goods.
>>
>>2850938
>it's largely because most of the people on here equate "asia" with their poverty tourism fantasies
Every time a Singaporean talks. See: >>2849968
No. People don't go to Asian for "poverty tourism fantasies." They go to Asia to see a place with some interesting culture that isn't just a watered down version of the west, some good food, and some unique scenery and architecture that they can't see at home. Singaporeans desperately want to be white Europeans, and they think they if they get enough money, then all the thousands of years of culture and architecture and tradition will poof into existence and everyone will respect them. But as this anon >>2851143 said, Singaporeans are too busy going to their fake jobs, being in adult day care in their offices pretending to do things of value, eating at chain restaurants that people can eat anywhere in the west, wearing western branded fashion that we westerners think are boring, driving western cars that westerners see every day, visiting malls with western shops that we thought were stupid and irrelevant 20 years ago.

Westerners go to Asia to see and experience something new. Singapore is a cheap Chinese knockoff of the west. It's a creepy little country with no culture that desperately tries to be a western country. It's a theme park ripoff of the real stuff that we can see at home, but better and cheaper. Singaporeans don't beg us on the streets for our money. They just beg us online for our approval and demand that we go and pay to look at their money. You beg us online to pay to look at your money. How pathetic is that? A tiny little country in an economic bubble with no history, no culture, just begging for white approval and tourism dollars. If tourism died tomorrow, Thailand's culture would still thrive. So would Indonesia's. Singapore would be left with an abandoned airport and shopping malls full of American restaurants.

LOL
>>
>>2851198
They literally have culture though?
>>
>>2851198
Practically all media is dominated by the USA: movies, tv, music. Besides the 2-3 "Asia" apps like baidu and wechat all other social media are run by American companies, and the "Asia" apps are just basically copy pasting American apps.

90% of the world runs on a 5 day work week that got popularized by Henry Ford... You probably typed this shit out wearing jeans and Nikes on either your American made iPhone or your American made Android you got during a black friday sale.

In fact America dominates culture so much that what you think about as "culture" is just a country's 2-3 dishes and the weird old clothes they used to wear like lederhosen. Oh and maybe a retarded dance they have and for some countries the fact that they take a nap in the middle of the day.
>>
>>2851284
>Besides the 2-3 "Asia" apps like baidu and wechat all other social media are run by American companies, and the "Asia" apps are just basically copy pasting American apps.
Asian websites all copy American websites its insane
Just look at this https://www.chinesetest.cn/test-centers
>>
>>2851286
I was more talking about bigger scale Asian apps/websites. For example Grab/Gojek is basically just a copy of Uber.

The one thing I will hand to Asia (specifically China) was the creation of TikTok/short form video. That's probably the only meaningful cultural export that has come from outside the USA in the last ?? years (decades even?)..... bravo! You guys figured out instead of 6 second videos like Vine the ideal short form is 60 seconds.
>>

It's so strange how Grab is so common in the entireity of east asia, from Vietnam to Singapore. What do you think about Wechat? I heard it was pretty different.

MBS Casino / club
all the other shit around MBS - doable in a day
day shopping at orchard, lot of good places to eat near there too
chinatown / jeet-town
haw par villa / drinking with chinese niggas at night - go there and meet some chinese tourist niggas to drink with
clarke quay nightlife shit - good bars and clubs in area, cool place to street-drink by river too, more degen, largely white nightlife area
zoo and nature park - meh, also doable in a day

you could also do a day and onions-out and go to universal and all the touristy shit near there but it'd be better to do if you're not alone - SG is a mall country too so a lot of the better places to eat or drink are inside malls of some kind, kinda like thailand in that regard. they used to have nightlife malls with hoes too.

yeah there's a fucking FairPrice supermarket right in the middle of Clarke Quay. technically you can buy beer there I guess but the vibe got completely fucked. tourists disappeared during covid, they also canceled night buses which caused local Singaporeans to stop hanging out there, and the area just got completely fucking devastated.
Zouk still exists but last time I went it was just rich Chinese kids sitting around and taking instagram selfies

cool hangout areas like Clarke Quay, Club Street, etc. no longer really exist. it's really sad how little Singapore cares about allowing people to have a semblance of fun.

even despite this I would still like Singapore for their bar scene, but last time I went there and wanted to go my favorite bar (Smoke & Mirrors on top of the National Gallery) and saw that it was permanently fucking closed. place is fucked

Singapore should just ban alcohol. If they kill people for having some dried leaves in their backpack, they should kill people for drinking alcohol. And I'm not kidding. Sell tickets to watch drunkies get dropped with a short rope and maybe people will finally have something fun to do.
>>

>>
>>2852208

>>
>>2852211
Nothing. Singapore wants degens to fuck off and to enjoy their gay little slave plantation.

You want nightlife? You get on the ferry with the indians and you go across the water to indonesia and stir spooge with the rest of the subhumans.

The 10/10 vietnamese angels will remain but only for rich finance and nepo baby chads for $500 an hour, which is nothing to them (but is for you).

So go fuck the blown out sex slaves in an indonesian brothel, remember to piss after otherwise you will catch the 'Mumbai Drip'.
>>
>>2852237
So it's not even a good place to live in anymore?
>>
>>2852239
It's fine if you are not a lifestyle degenerate, and you have a job or a life here.

It's not such a great place anymore if you are a massively retarded coomer, since locals are wise to you, and freelancers know they can just have condom sex with tiny pp chinese for same or better price than you offer.

Tl;dr - everyone is wise to the games white dudes used to play here, and if you aren't making dosh and living the cash infused lifestyle, you will be treated like dregs.

Alcohol drinking is an integral part of Chinese culture. They will never give it up. You can drink alcohol daily and still be a good slave. In fact, alcohol drinking helps you become a better slave by giving you an outlet to all the frustrations that arise from your slave status.
