I’m planning to backpack Europe in a month. I am in decent financial shape but I’ll be staying in hostels and capsules and the flights are free with miles. I’ve dreamed of going to the old country for a long time. I’ll be in Rome, Zurich, a couple cities in Germany, Gdansk, and maybe Prague. I’ll spring for the rail pass. What are some tips from anybody who has done something similar?

You've chosen incredibly boring places desu.

Imo, mix up transport types, city types, nature vs city, plan around fun unique experiences, stay in a variety of accom types and make aspects of your journey unique.

City hopping gets boring and repetitive, as does ticking off sites from a box.

Based on this photo you've already been to the best city in Europe. Why even bother going to other capitals.
Geowizard just posted a video where he picks a random spot in Italy to travel to, then proceeds to walk across Treviso for no reason, then schleps up through the most beautiful alpine scenery just to get to this GPS point, then goes to drink pints and has a great time. Reminded me what European travel should really be about, i.e. all the unexpected coolness you discover in the most unexpected places. Lesson being, accept all goals are arbitrary and take your time getting there, with a heavy bias toward countryside and nature when you are planning. Spring will just be peeking in most of those places so it will be a pretty time of year.

>backpacking europe in feburary
Anon please be fucking trolling, you have insanely short windows of sunlight right now, weather being terrible to meh, and the least amount of outdoor things.

Nigga Europe fucking sucks in February, Rome will be okay and the rest will be passable at best. HE's going in probably the worst month for travel to Europe.

Should I go to Asia instead?

Asia sucks year-round

Asia would be better this time of year due to lack of humidity and slightly longer days. Just your call anon, know that Europe in February is legit garbage tier

>europe sucks in febuary
Yeah whatever man thats just your opinion and you could at least go in to reasons why the warmer months are superior for travel

NTA but OP specifically said backpacking
-days are short meaning if anon is going to backpack he's limited on things to do outside, not fun to backpack in the dark
-the weather is miserable of cold to cold and slushy-wet snow or full on bullshit blizzard
-things to do outside are at an all-time low due to reasons lifted above
-most people are staying at home due to all the holidays draining the funds and such
-the food that you'd normally be getting with summer/end of summer isn't fresh no canned shit doesn't count

I mean yeah it's FINE but again OP is mentioning specifically backpacking meaning outdoors most the time hopping from place to place, unless OP means something like "just going to europe with one backpack". Why you wouldn't wait until at least spring is absurd as more to do outside and far better scenery

By "backpacking" he evidently means bedrotting in a capsule all day. One plus of traveling in low season, flights and accomodation will be as cheap as they get, allowing him to get by on a Southeast Asia tier budget. With Europe's push to conserve energy you'll likely be freezing ass both indoors and out.

Europe is great in the winter if you know how to pick the locations. Lisbon/Southern Portugal, Seville/Malaga are really nice this time of the year. I'm guessing some Greek islands could also be interesting, though you'd miss out on their main attractions, the beaches. I spent a week in Sicily in January and it was awesome. But yeah, northern europe can be super comfy in the winter if you have a routine and something to do indoors. Otherwise it's a bit harsh. There's a reason scandinavians all flock to the Canary Islands in Dec/Jan.
