Is Goa (in India) a shithole or a good beachside state?
It would be decent if it wasn't full of indian scammers, it's too much even for indians to deal with so they go to thailand now if they can. There's a bunch of cool old Portuguese buildings and the rainforest seems pretty untouched compared to many places, but the water never looked close to that clear when I was there. It has a more standard crowded beach town feel than the general insanity of most of india, so it's one of the easier places to handle in the country other than the taxi mafia / bike rental scammers.

Indians are very sane and tolerant of others in traffic, but they do in fact do whatever they want. Anarchist/voluntaryist principles apply. The only no-nos are hitting somebody or completely obstructing the roadway (but even that is okay for a short time). If you stay in a place with less through traffic, there will be less impatient horn blaring. Goa isn't a part of India, it's a tourist beach. If you want beach parties, bang lassies, whatever then fair enough. But usually it's full of isreali backpackers and jeet scammers.
