Why would I waste my hard-earned money vagabonding around an overpriced Australian city full of rich people and sprawling suburbs? Australia is a place you travel from, not one you travel to (unless you're looking to work there). Even Scoot roundtrips from KUL or SIN are $350+. That's $50 per day on flights alone for a weeklong trip. By the time you add non-hostel lodging, dining and daytrip excursions, you'll looking at $1000 USD for a week in Aus, easy.

Aus cities *are* generic. It's always so weird seeing UK and Eurofag cities in movies / tv shows with buildings so old. Every city here has miles of new suburbs where there once were horse paddocks, market gardens and bush (forest), apparently the biggest houses & apartments on average in the world (beats even USA). Yes the price of living is steep but in smaller cities (Canberra, Adelaide) traffic is manageable. Outdoors type activities and sports arecwgat people everywhere here generally can't get enough of.

Australia is miserable in summer, that's the take-away message. When it's sunny, you burn. When it's cool, it's wet and rainy. Go in winter if you must.

Regularly get ~$220 AUD flights from Syd-Sin, it's a reliable price point for years now and a fucking good deal for an 8 hour flight on a dreamliner with wifi the whole way
Need to start booking earlier mate.
t. fly the route 6 times a year

To get to your actual point yes, Australia is a fucking joke, the value for money simply isn't there with accommodation and activities.
The nature stuff is worth it imo but Aus cities are retarded places to visit for a holiday for what you get.
If you are in the neighborhood go to Bangkok or Tokyo. Wtf does Melbourne or Sydney have to offer over those two for 3x the price?

I don't get why Americans travel to Australia

It looks exactly like America except the houses are smaller and have fences in the front yard instead of just the back. Why would you spend $2000 and 18+ hours on a plane to see that?

Checking off the "Australia" box on your world travel bucket list, seeing the exotic wildlife, exploring all that coastline, working a seasonal job for the hell of it, then going on 4x4 adventures with a big bold aussie girl and a cooler full of beer...
>70% of people are overweight or obese
That's just as gross as America, but on the plus side, Australia has few black people.
