Hi /trv/, I'm Mexican and I live in the middle of the desert. I'd like to take a vacation in my country. Where would you recommend? I'm looking for something other than Acapulco or Cancun; I want something newer. Thanks!
>>2856136Creel, Batopilas in Chihuahua, Huasteca Potosina in SLP, El Cielo in Tamps, Alamos in Sonora, Xalapa area in Veracruz...you get the trend yet? Pick one of your Sierra Madre (Occidental or Oriental) and go have fun in the beautiful greenery. Huasteca Potosina and Xalapa didn't feel narco infested while I was there.
>>2856150How is Jalisco? I want to go check out tequila distilleries around Guadalajara and maybe go over to Leon to get some boots but I'm adverse to being decapitated. Any advice is appreciated. Everything about not traditionally tourist areas Mexico seems to be super politically divided ... western lefties telling me cartels either don't exist or are the good guys and people on the right telling me my head will be mounted on a tortoise wandering the desert before I get to my hotel.

>>2856136The area surrounding Xalapa is wonderful, indeed. Good food and coffee, and the locals are pretty chill, unabrasive. If you decide to come aroud this time of the year, be prepared for rainy afternoons and very pleasant evenings. Not a narco town, so you can walk around and feel safe. I'd also recommend Campeche, Campeche; from what I recall, it's a very tranquil town, definitely not narco infested. It's super histprical, too, so of you're into pirates and Nueva EspaƱa history, you're bound to have a nice time. Plenty of pretty sights.
>>2856162You should keep your distance from dangerous characters, same as you would a rattlesnake. Pay attention to your surroundings like a lone stray dog on the lookout for a pack of mean curs. Don't challenge people, don't get drunk and chummy with randoms you met at a bar or on the street. Honest Mexicans are very suspicious of solo male strangers and rarely friendly toward them. Drinking and seeking out drugs is how I always got into trouble in Mexico. Ideally, bring a girlfriend along. People will be so much friendlier to you.
>>2856162>How is Jalisco? It's ok as long as you go to the tourist areas, don't even think about going the countryside/rural areas just to see "how it looks like" if you don't know anyone who can drive you around.>go over to LeonLeon is boring as fuck, and Guanajuato is even more dangerous than Jalisco, but again, the tourist areas are ok and safe, you better go to Guanajuato city or San Miguel de Allende instead.
