I'm going with my momD1: Taipei (arrive at 5:20 AM so it's a full day)D2: TaipeiD3: Taipei (day trip to Jiufen and elsewhere depending on time)D4: TaipeiD5: Sun moon lakeD6: Sun Moon lakeD7: Alishan rec area (via private car from sun moon lake) SLEEP in Shizhuo tea hills areaD8: Hiking in Shizhuo tea hills area D9: Take scenic railway to Chiayi, Chiayi to Tianan (if scenic railway is available - otherwise take bus from Shizhuo to Chiayi then go to Tianan)D10: TiananD11: TiananD12: KaohsiungD13 fly back from KaohsiungMy mom has never been to Asia so I want it to feel very unique and she likes outdoors stuff but not intense trekking so I think Alishan and Shizhou will be nice and atmospheric. Is it enough time in Taipei? It it too many days in Tianan? I keep reading mixed things on Tainan. My mom and I love coffee shops and I've heard there's lots of alleyways with comfy coffee shops.
Looks good, enough variety without moving house every day.>arrive at 5:20 AM so it's a full dayMake sure to account for the time difference, your mum might not be fully fit for the first two days.>JiufenCan be very crowded, just FYI.>Tainan/KaohsiungThey are close to each other so you can do them as day trips if you want to stay in one place longer.
I've been to Taiwan three times for a few months totalHave never left Ximen, the furthest I went was a day trip to the computer parts suburb, it was maybe 4 stops
>>2860527What did you like about ximen? Sounds like it just had everything you needed.Never been yet but going soon.
>>2860538I'm just lazy, there's plenty of good stuff elsewhere in Taipei alone. Ximen is a weird place and not representative of the country at all.Of things I regret not doing, Zhongshan in general, Sun Moon and Tarako nat parkJuifen looks cool but the tourist menance puts me off, maybe early weekday or something. Also ffs if you are going with your mum don't get on the train into town if there's no seats, just wait 5 mins for the next one. Blows my mind seeing people get off long haul flights with jetlag are rushing to stand for 40 mins in a packed train
>>2860007If your mom likes outdoors stuff then hell, that's actually too many days in Taipei. The day trip to Jiufen makes sense. Taipei is surrounded by mountains, so it's cloudy/rainy for most of the year. On sunny days, all you can see around the city are concrete buildings, their parks and green spaces are mediocre, and while they have many rivers, they're just...there. On a rainy/cloudy day, outdoor walk just feels miserableIf you love that cyberpunk aesthetic then you'll love Taipei, but if you and your mom are more the nature type you may as well spend more time at Kaohsiung or Tamsui and check out the seaside
>>2860884>if you love that cyberpunk aesthetic then you'll love Taipei, what total bullshit.
>>2860886calling it like I saw it
>>2860886>>2860894>calling you a paid pysop faggot from chinkland or russiaYeah so that's how I see itI know you want me to post the actual cyberpunk Taipei vids I have anon but its not happening
>>2860894One solitary tall building whose aesthetic you attribute to the whole city. Unjustified. This poster >>2860886 much more accurately showed what most of Taipei by area looks like. It's a city not given much to pretension and flashiness. >>2860884Taiwan does seem very well-kept if you come from developing Asia. But I likewise had that constant nagging feeling of disappointment. Everything was just too nice and sterile, same same everywhere you go.
>>2860007from Taipei, take the train to tamsui one day, and Taipei zoo or Keelung another day. If in Keelung consider hiking on any of the surrounding mountains. The city has nothing to do, so I walked over the mountain to another city, and took the train home from there.
