This summer I plan to visit Prague for 5 days then quick flight to Budapest for 4. Is there any advice about going to these places? Is English ok to get by with or should I learn some basic phrases?

Its wild when I learned you can get a hotel room a walking distance from that. Absolutely incredible. My friends who have gone tell me amazing stories with their hostel experiences. I think it would be wise to go during college spring break time- but I believe there are always events happening there.
If you're going from Prague to Budapest by train, you might as well stop in Vienna on the way for a day too.

I'd also recommend visiting one of the caves in Buda, exploring Margaret Island and the Castle District, hiking up to the newly refurbished Citadel on Gellért Hill, taking a leisurely stroll through Andrássy avenue, having a picnic in City Park (top attractions include the House of Music, the curved building of the Museum of Ethnography, Vajdahunyad Castle and the Zoo), checking out the Holy Dexter (the mummified right hand of Hungary's first Christian king) and listening to an organ concert at St. Stephen's Basilica, seeking out the ancient Roman ruins of Aquincum, having a few drinks in one of the ruin bars of the Jewish District, catching a gig at the A38 ship, spending a nice dinner at a Hungarian restaurant with live Gypsy music (Kéhli's a good one), shopping for souvenirs at the Great Market Hall, having a coffee in the Újlipótváros neighbourhood, and going on a river cruise at sunset. depending on the exact timeframe of your visit, I can give you more tips.

It isn't as busy and they have the sauna world for a bit extra. It's also free if you buy the Budapest card
