Experiences with Japan’s judicial system (read before you travel)

A lot of gaijin end up in Japan’s draconian judicial system, so this thread exists to collect and share real experiences.

Under Japanese law, suspects can be detained for up to 23 days before indictment. During this period:

Bail is not allowed

Interrogations are conducted without a lawyer present

Suspects are subjected to long, repeated questioning

The right to remain silent is routinely ignored or pressured away

Japan’s pretrial detention system is widely criticized for abuse. Authorities often rely on coerced confessions, repeated rearrests to reset detention limits, and constant surveillance inside police detention cells (daiyo kangoku).

Once charged, you are basically finished:

Over 99% of criminal trials end in conviction

Prosecutors rarely bring cases they are not certain to win

Foreigners are especially vulnerable due to language barriers and lack of local support

Most convicted foreigners end up serving time in Fuchu Prison, one of Japan’s main facilities for inmates, including gaijin.

>foreigners are especially vulnerable to finding out after they fuck around in a foreign country
And that's a good thing. You think things are any different in China, Korea, Thailand, or Malaysia? No. Asian justice doesn't performatively assume innocence of people who are clearly fucking guilty of being a piece of shit criminal. Go back to the West if you want to commit crimes and be treated with kid gloves.

Oh hey, look at the big tough guy ob the internet over here. I want to see your blubber quiver when you get charged witg something you didnt do.

Because it works very simple: Dropping a charge means the cops lose face, so they will rather torture a confession out of you and falsify evidence than admit that they were wrong. Thats the truth of it.

All the smoothbrains out there, keep this stat in mind. If you're arrested and they have iron-clad proof, it's best to cooperate because you're going to get indicted and convicted, and it'll go more quickly.

However, if you are arrested and you didn't do it, or maybe you did, and you're pretty sure they have no concrete evidence, KEEP YOUR TRAP SHUT. The cops here are stone cold retards and the prosecutors will not indict if they're not 100% sure of a conviction, which they will only get if you crack. They can only hold you for 23 days. If you're not a pussy, the jails are a joke. Just ride it.

Your kind always squawk something along that line when they get caught. You really expect anyone, least of all the police in an Asian country, to take your denial at face value? LMAO. You're only making it harder on yourself. No, you're not innocent, so stop pretending to be.

In a world full of CCTV cameras, it's highly unlikely there's not gonna be a single shred of evidence connecting you to a crime. Even remote temples and hiking trails have surveillance cameras these days.

Look up the story of Greg Gumo. American guy who 100% killed the side piece he was fucking. There was a mountain of circumstantial evidence, but because he kept his trap shut and never confessed, the prosecutor dropped the murder charge and he only got 18 months for abandoning a corpse. Point being, they dropped the charge because they weren’t 100% sure of a conviction.

>le Asians are good
All of those countries have a massive problem with police corruption
You can commit any crime you want, as long as you pay before it hits the book
Everyone in these places knows this

Arrested is not part of the 99% conviction. When they decide to charge you, then you enter that statistic. They can hold you for 23 days and try to fish a reason to charge you.

So no, don’t play along until they charge you.
