>>2862309Here's what is going to happen:>East of LA will be empty desert with nothing of value>Arizona will be a slog of a drive, maybe stop at the Grand Canyon along the way though. Be prepared for it to be extremely packed along any part of the road unless you hike in> Drive right through another slog (New Mexico) while looking at all the hot balloons>Yet another slog in the pan handle, stop by The Big Texan Steak Ranch and lose at the 72ozer> Oklahoma is yet another boring slog, but if you time it right you can stop by some cool museums like the Air & Space>make it to Arkansas where you finally have ozarks and lots of land to do shit on if you're into hiking, hot springs too, etc>TN same shit, lots to do for outdoors shitHighly recommend taking CA -> Vegas -> Utah -> CO -> Kansas -> OK -> Arkansas (Yes, divert south, fuck Missouri unless you want to stop for BBQ at Kansas city) -> TN instead
>>2862309>ArkansasLittle Rock, Hot Springs, Ozarks, Thorncrown Chapel.>OklahomaLamer Texas. I hear Tulsa is cool and a major stop on Route 66>New MexicoProbably the best state in the union to travel. Santa Fe, White Sands, Carlsbad Caverns, nuclear test sites>ArizonaGrand Canyon and Indian reservations>MissouriSt. Louis and KC are both pretty interesting. More Ozarks>Kansas Comfy small towns, quaint and soulful roadside attractions>ColoradoHippies and stoners everywhere. Cool nature>UtahMormons and more cool nature.
>>2862309Highly recommend monument valley in Arizona (near where Forrest Gump finished his run). A little out of your way but worth it.Grand Canyon too of course but like this anon said >>2862429 it will be crowded at any outlook with parking. You’ll want to park at a trailhead, walk 0.5-1 miles, then it’ll be like you have the whole canyon to yourself.
>>2862438>>New Mexico>Probably the best state in the union to travelNot even top 25.
Don't stay overnight in New Mexico. Significantly higher odds of your car being broken into overnight. Especially around the capital.
>>2862468I heard this too
>>2862468>>2862479I did a similar trip buying a car on the other side of the country and I ended up in New Mexico overnight because of the cheap rooms lmao. Don't remember where but it wasn't the capital.
>>2863560Albuquerque is the worst worst, but it's still higher odds throughout he entire state.
>>2862309just goon while you drive for 32 hours straight
Northern route is the most scenicMiddle route has very little highlights Southern maybe slightly better than middle
>>2862309>North routedeath valley, vegas, Zion, mormons, rockies, denver, plains, more plains, most dangerous city on the Mississippi (St. Louis), rural farmland and occasional swamps>South routeDesert, pheonix, more desert, El Paso, Mexicans, farmland and oil feilds, gay shithole (austin), overpriced shithole (dallas), Poor farmland, 2nd most dangerous city on the Mississippi (memphis), more rural farmland and swamps>Central routedeath valley, flagstaff, Navajo, ABQ, arid farmland, even more farmland and reservations, Little rock, Memphis, Rural farms and swamps
>>2862309Las Vegas, Hoover Dam, Bryce Canyon, Kanab, Glen Canyon Dam, Monument Valley, Four Corners, Durango, Grand Junction, Glenwood Springs, Aspen, Cheyenne Mtn, Old Town Santa Fe, White Sands, El Paso, Carlsbad, A lot of nothing except oil wells, Fort Worth Stockyards, Hot Springs, Branson, Ozarks, Nashville, Dollywood, Tail of the Dragon, Bristol
>>2862309I thought Saguaro National Park in southern Arizona was really cool, there's nothing like the giant Saguaro cactuses.Utah also has great national parks.Carlsbad Caverns in NM was also pretty neat, especially if you go in the summer to see the bats:https://www.nps.gov/cave/planyourvisit/bat_flight_program.htmWhen you get to the southeast, try to find some kind of swamp you can tour especially if you've never been to the southeast before, southeast swamps are like another world compared to southern Cali. I've done a boat tour in Okefenokee in southern Georgia which was great, tons of alligators. It might be a bit far from your trip but there should be other swamps, maybe other anons are more knowledgeable about where to find alligators and stuff near your route. Also you're close to Atlanta if you want to stop by there, the big attraction there is the world-famous aquarium.
>>2862446My goal is to walk the north to south rim. Some people walk it there and back in one day but i'd die.
>>2865802IIRC there are campsites at the bottom of the canyon. Idk how hard it is to reserve one
