I'm an English teacher (B.Ed., teaching license etc), I don't want anything to demanding, just a nice tier 2 or 3 international school or even a public school. Just want to chill at this stage in my life.
Anyone know what the expat scene is like there?
I'm getting the impression a lot of YouTubers and remote workers are fleeing BKK to Da Nang. Sounds like it could have downsides.
Anyone worked there? I feel like it's a just show up and your CV around kinda place.

Being an English teacher passport bro is a fucking meme

You're a loser and you'll find out why English teacher is an insult.

Do you really think it's any worse than being the average restaurant/store wagie in the west?

Why are you faggots so obsessed about what other people think? The insecurity and lack of self-confidence is kinda sad. Don't worry what your friends think back in Goysville, Ohio. Who tf cares. Get some confidence.
>>
>>2862984
I literally escaped the next town over from Goysville, Ohio. I don't give a shit what they think. I'm just glad I'm not working full-time as a server as the local slop shop who spends all his time off watching niggerball and netflix and has never left the midwest

Being poor just so you can maximize your chances to fuck mid Vietnamese women between sitting alone at dinky coffee shops in the sweltering heat isn’t admirable

It’s not about confidence it’s just the juvenile priorities

I have enough investments that I never feel the need to save anymore.
I honestly find your post only somewhat comprehensible.

If you can't handle being mocked, you don't belong in Vietnam. They are famous for making fun of foreigners right in front of their faces.

Then congratulations, you are one of the nomads who will be helping to ruin Da Nang by overpaying for everything food & drink related.

>Da Nang
Great choice, wonderful city.

>just a nice tier 2 or 3 international school
Do some research into the school you pick. I work at a tier 2 and it's extremely demanding. I'm in go mode from 7:15 to 5:00 every day and only 1/3 of that is contact time. My kid gets to go for free though.

>or even a public school
Try public school if you want but don't expect to do any teaching. The children see you as a clown who is there to amuse them with funny dances and games. It's literally illegal for you to manage the class, and the local teacher whose job that's supposed to be hates your guts. Also nobody speaks English past a grade 3 level, including the teachers. There will be 1 or 2 kids in the class who are really good at it cause they study outside of school, but they're surrounded by 40 cretins who have been raised from a young age to see you as less than human. It's one of those shame and futility type jobs like working a sales floor at the mall.

>don't want anything to demanding
*too demanding
It sounds like you're looking for an English center. You have the credentials for a head teacher job at VUS which is kind of cushy but has weird hours. Those English centers get a lot of shit from expats but they do get results. If you care about results in your work then you might like it.

The problem isn't what people back in Ohio think, it's what the Vietnamese think. They look down on English teachers and resent their comparatively high wages. They will see you as someone who couldn't make it back home and had to move to their country to take advantage of the lower standards. Every one of your coworkers is actively working against you. Every man sees you as a deceitful enemy. Most women see you as a mark.

>>2867262
He's not going to be poor. There's good money to be made earning a steady western salary in SEA, even if it's not superb by western standards. You can live very comfortably and still save a lot.
>>
>>2868230
fully agree. Spent a bit of time when I traveled there, and not sure about the whole expat scene but really liked it. Enough city to keep you busy with all the good eats and beer to keep you busy and has a bit of a beach. Also a bit of a younger population out at the cafes and pretty friendly. Could have spent weeks there.

Live in My An if you want to socialize with other foreigners

I think the seething from /trv/ that this thread produced is a sign that you should do this.

I taught in Saigon for a bit and it was easy to get a job, but I had to get a CELTA certification first and I don't know if your current credentials replace that, they might though. It was also the best access to women that I ever had, but I was too much of a sperg to really capitalize on it. Shoulda partnered up before moving back to the US.

I did leave because I missed the family, comfort level, and clean air of my home town, but Da Nang is probably nicer than Saigon
>>
What are some good bars in da nang?
>>
>>2868474
It's a good thing you didn't partner up. The type of girls who snipe a husband on his way back to the west are usually bad news.
>>
>>2868684
Looks like its closed now but miss this place so much: https://maps.app.goo.gl/HrFQvDxgqLtmShMC7
>Open 24/7, literally didn't even have walls or a lock for the fridge
>Cute staff fall asleep on the lounges each night, giving everyone an upskirt show, people dump cash at the bar and get their own drinks
>half the customers get trashed and fall asleep too, turn up at 3am and theres a bunch of guys snoring away
>Everyone smoking bongs out in the open fully exposed to the street, cops couldn't care less
>Full of the good type of western weirdos rather than jaded boomers complaining about their 3rd Vietnamese wife
>Full range of instruments anyone could play
That whole area around Ngo This Si is great. A lot of good stuff there.
>>2868474
Air quality is a lot better in Da Nang. There's some nice areas like D2 but I was happy to get out of HCMC in the end
>>
Why do you guys fuck up your lives being an english teacher so much. I’ve never seen this being better than the guy who actually stayed and grinded.
>>
>>2869554
Tight yellow snatches
>>
>>2869555
I love that shit too, but you could actually retire way earlier if you focused on maximizing your western salary. Like even a paltry retirement fund of like $1.5 has enough wiggle room for two fuck ups.
>>
>>2862690
How challenging is it to be an elementary school english teacher in China these days? I have a tefl, a college degree and a pile of money.
>>
>>2869559
I've never taught English bro
Lived in Nam working remote and doing runs
>>

Living the life. But there plenty of tards teaching english. I’m not talking about you, you know who i’m talking about.

Inb4 i get flamed and judged by autists.

Who knows where I can still get legit balloons in HCMC? Also any up-to-date nightlife recs? I was in HCMC like 4 years ago and had a long list but apparently a lot has closed/changed.

All the English teachers I knew there were cool and I ended up knowing a few
the hate for them is a meme and mostly salty locals, some of which is fair considering they get paid decently in comparison
>>
>>2870191
damn bro where did you live that all the english teachers were cool? cause I have never been there
>>
I would also like to move to somewhere in southeast asia. I'm a licensed pervert irl.
