Have you ever felt scammed when travelling?
>>2863595Yes, but also no. Some places entirely are carried by certain seasons of the year and are trash outside of it. Some ppl def take photos in a way to exaggerate what you actually see.Either way it's usually still worth the visit when it comes to nature stuff.
>>2863595the second picture is also a scam with a very wide angle lens. the true picture is somewhere in between
>>2863595one time i got a hotel too late on booking like after midnight the day of arrival- the hotel was full but then sent me across the neighborhood to a partnering hotel same price, same quality hotel or better. but i was still pissed about that. in reality it didnt change much.i suppose every holiday listing photography is deception, but come to accept it, as long as things are secure, clean.. just roll with it.not necessarily "scammed" but say going to Europe. an airbnb is always smaller than you imagine based on the photos. you rent a hotel room in a city - its noisy as hell with scooters/dirtbikes being super loud - you get used to it but its jarring, or its near an important road that is noisy - maybe you could get used to it but can't open your window for it, or its near a train track - not a surprise but still you might not consider it until you're in it.
As a European traveling around Europe, I always feel scammed by the prices of most things. I was shocked at food prices of restaurants in Barcelona. Even the less touristy ones that I would research would still be a lot of money for 7/10 food. I had the opposite experience in Asia
I don't know if there's a name for it but those scams where a dude will give you some half ass "tour" or take you around to his friends shops hoping you'll buy something then demand money afterwards. Unfortunately I was dumb enough to fall for that bullshit 4 times in Egypt, India, and Israel. I never gave them more than like $5 USD but still those fucks do a really good job at making it seem like they're just friendly locals that wanna chat with you until you realize they're just after your money, but then you're already suckered in.
>>2863632>you rent a hotel room in a city - its noisy as hellThis is why I always request a room on the top floors and away from the elevator when I book a room online. Then I mention it again when I check in. Works like 90% of the time
>>2863595That's the whole point of telephoto photography or cinematography, anon. To make pictures look cooler than they are by cutting out the boring foreground. If you have good vision, you can still appreciate a vista of mountains that are 30 km away.Lastly, you demonstrated why Street View has nothing on real-life sightseeing for natural scenery. It's only good for checking out shopfronts and other closeby sights.>>2863632Location matters, and I don't mean "is it close to everything" location, but "is it suitable for rest". Sometimes the noise level on the front side of the property is 10x that of an interior or backside room...I always insist they show me multiple rooms before making my choice, and refuse to passively get herded into the first room they offer. Here in India they act like it's a favor to give you a room overlooking the street. Noise? They don't even notice it.
>>2863726>To make pictures look cooler tanon the colors in the picture are totally edited as well, its not just the focal length that said, a lot of overlooks look way better irl than in photos and you just can't really capture them fully in a single photo
>>2863595They do the same with Mt Fuji
>>2863733real life, kekLooking back at it, i was really gullible before my first trip.
>>2863734Is Japan not a giant magnet for the gullible above all else?
>>2863737Yes, women in particular.It's a theme park
>>2863740I feel bad America makes such a minimal effort to theme park-ify itself. The efforts are always so cheesy and its like its stuck in the 1970s. China looks so futuristic in comparison.
>>2863734Are you retarded. The comparison image is during sakura blossoms, during sundown, and not nearly as cloudy.
>>2863703I work at reception at an inner city hotel and we get a lot of those requests. What they don’t know is that the rooms on the top floor are the smallest and we are in a very quiet part anyway, so there’s really no need.
>>2863757Many countries are known for their obnoxious people who show up at midnight yelling and stomping around in the hallway, not giving a fuck that other people are trying to sleep. Obnoxious people are usually lazy pieces of shit as well, so if you stay on the highest floor, you're least likely to have them for neighbors. Bonus points if there is no elevator.
>>2863733The colors are artificially enhanced here. Note how the temple appears to be glowing with golden light from the left side even though the sun has already set on the right side. >>2863734But of course, dreary low clouds are going to have the opposite effect of washing out color and making everything look somber.
>>2863751You are retarded, it never looks like that IRL
>>2863757I'd rather run the risk of getting a slightly smaller room than running the risk being woken up 5 times every night from noise outside, noise above me or from drunk retards coming and going from the elevator right outside my door. So I'll keep requesting the top floor and away from the elevator
>>2863734You can see Mount Fuji about half the days of the year.
>>2863734you mean there's not even a mountain there?
>>2863595Some taxi driver in Bulgaria charged me $40 EUR for a 2km trip The tram went straight out the front of my Airbnb too and costs cents
>>2863929LMFAO, he ripped you off because you were a loathsome fatso who couldn't walk 2 km with your pack.
>>2863734Do you.. not understand how weather works or something? This is bait right?
>>2863942I did 20km hikes around SofiaBut if you say so
>>2863734My picture from 3 weeks ago. It's pretty well known that Fuji disappears in summer due to intense humidity and cloudiness. And Japanese summer goes from May to December.
>>2863619I think it’s real. This photo, without the compression of the phone’s optical zoom, was taken at a very short distance from the mountain (right at the village entrance), and it doesn’t look impressive at all
>>2864835>car shadow and guardrail intruding on the picture>the section of river has all the aesthetic curves of a morbidly obese hamplanet>ugly barren hill on the far side of the river ruins the skyline because your vantage point is too lowYour lack of effort in choosing your vantage point is what makes this an unimpressive picture, not the mountains themselves.
>>2863595>Driving on the interstate>See a sign for 'the world's largest ball of yarn'>Fuck yeah i'm going to pull off at exit 10 and continue past the Kum & Go and combination long John silvers Taco Bell>Get there>Only 10 feet tall>Google it later>Not even the Guinness Record holder for biggest ball of yarn$500 and an hour and a half of my life gone. Just like that.
>>2864835>doesn’t look impressive at allwhy are you so hard to please? do you have something like that in your backyard?
>>2864930>>Driving on the interstatewhere is that? i want to check it out for myself
Once. I stopped over at crazy horse monument in the black hills in south Dakota. I stopped by to see mount Rushmore on my way to the badlands and figured if see this crazy horse thing since it was right by it.It costs like $25 or something to get in, you can only get like a half mile from it unless you wanna pay for a scheduled guided tour, and the fucking thing is like 10% complete despite it being under construction for like 40 years. The only place you can walk around is a fucking museum of indian stuff and the history of place and a gift shop and a viewing area. While mount Rushmore is like $5 or less to park, then you can walk pretty much right underneath the thing and its also more famous. Pic related is what it will eventually look like, supposedly, and what it actually is in the background as of 2019. You can also see the viewing area just behind the statue which is as close as you're allowed to get.
>>2865021It actually started construction is 1948For reference mount Rushmore was built in 14 years
>>2865021>being under construction for like 40 years.it's nice to know that some things haven't changed
