Help me convince my friend who's a stuck up bitch to spend three nights in a hostel with me. She's convinced she will either be mugged, raped or killed in a hostel. On top of that she's afraid of shared bathrooms and says she hates strangers. We're going to France btw.
>>
>>2864062
Maybe rent a room and fuck her instead? If not get a twin room. Sometimes cheapest rooms aren't too far off for 2 people vs booking 2 bunks. I never went with hostels for this reason while I was travelling with gf, plus I needed a space to fuck her at the end of the day. If you're going for a hostel book something with a social vibe and don't book the cheapest shit imaginable, especially not in France. I used to volunteer for a budget hostel and it was full of dodgy weirdos.
>inb4 she actually wants to fuck OP hence why teehee let's do private room and OP is severely autistic abused dog who can't pick up on it
>>
sometimes you can find room rentals in a house on airbnb that have private bathrooms
are you female too?
>>
>>2864065
I'm male. Maybe some kind of bnb would also work, what I really want is the social vibe, because we're staying in hotels for the rest of the trip anyways.

>>2864064
She's not my gf and I don't want to fuck her. I've had some good experiences with mid range hostels, many nice solo travelers and some cooky Americans. Haven't encountered anything overly dodgy yet.
>>
>>2864062
>my friend
>a stuck up bitch
she is absolutely right to be wary of spending time alone in a room with a psychotic nutjob like you
>>
>>2864081

>>

>>
Most hostels have female-only rooms. If they don't, it's probably a bad hostel.
She can also book an individual room for herself at the same hostel you are going to if she is willing to pay extra. Or you can book one for two as >>2864064 suggested.

It's very rare that people steals your things in hostels. It can happen, it happened to me in South Korea of all places, but if you keep your important stuff in a locker or in your bag on your bed, don't flash expensive stuff in front of everyone and keep an eye on your stuff when in the common rooms. The vast majority of people don't try to steal from anyone, scumbags are very rare.

Btw, if you go to Paris, do not book the cheapest hostels or you will have a bad time. Check the reviews on booking.com. In other cities, this doesn't apply as much.
Rooms with more than 6-8 beds tend to be unpleasant, but it really depends on the hostel. Rooms with less than 4 beds might be some kind of closet.

>>2864065
AirBnB is probably very expensive in France at this point, and a lot of owners are entitled bourgeois idiots who don't understand you need to provide the same service/work as hotel workers if you want to compete with hotels. Maybe 10 years ago it was still a good deal but not anymore.
>>
>>2864085
Yes smaller cities usually have better hostels. We're not going to Paris this year, although I must say that I've had some good experiences there with AirBnBs. You can find fairly cheap ones in good locations and usually you also get an additional refund because there's a hole in the floor, mold in the bathroom, no bedding or all of the above.

>>2864081
I love her dearly but she has some very snobby tendencies.
>>
>>2864079
>traveling with a female friend that's not your gf
What are you, gay?
>>
>>2864079
Why do you travel with a girl who you're not with or have no romantic interest? It'd just book your stuff separately. Let her rent a hotel room and you do a hostel. Share as much activities as you want while going your own way in the evening. Otherwise just book two singles, idk why would you insist on a hostel specifically if you're gonna spend time with her anyway. Split it 50/50 and I'm sure you won't be far off from hostel rate. A hostel room with private bathroom might work too but desu i always find hostel rooms overpriced and kind of shit compared to cheap hotels.
>>
>>2864062
She's right. Hostels suck in a dozen different ways. Sleeping with strangers is awful; every little noise they make has you waking up, wary of what they might be up to. A smaller dorm may have less noise, but it's even creepier when there's only one other weirdo in the room with you who avoids eye contact and acts super awkward. Many times the bunk beds are flimsy and unsecured, so every little movement from the person up top shakes the person down below.
>>2864079
>but I can sit in a living room and talk to people!
Whoop dee doo. As if anyone with an IQ over 90 wants to talk to the kind of people who stay in fucking hostels. Lamest conversations ever. Mostly people just sit in the common area staring at their phones like the fucking zombie cattle they are.
>>2864085
Theft is actually very common in hostels, which is why so many of them advertise their camera surveillance as a safety measure. It's easy not to notice something small is missing until a week down the road.
>"Goddammit, my favorite shirt is gone!"
>"I thought I had an extra charging cable, what the hell?"
Rarely do hostelfags steal valuable items that would be immediately missed and result in a police report being filed, like a phone or laptop. It's nearly always petty theft.
>>
>>2864102
I've worked in hostels for more than 2 years when I was younger and I saw two counts of theft. In one case it wasn't even guest and someone who nearly got their shit kicked in by a massive Australian dude and he promptly got his shit back; the second time it was some black Londoner who stole someone's shitty headphones. I've seen all kinds of loonies, dodgy characters and weirdos and I will say that theft in hostels is exceedingly rare.

Hostels do have lots of downsides but good hostels are amazing if you're younger than 35 because of how easy it is to socialise with other young people. Met a lot of cool people and hot girls this way. Shitty hostels yeah they're ass, full of Indians, migrant workers, semi homeless, long term slumpackers, etc. A great hostel gives you a nice social circle regardless of where you go. If you're older or don't care for it yeah then get a room.
>>
Anyone stay in Japanese hostels? I take advantage of their 90 day travel limit so this time to save money I booked hostels instead of an apartment an hour outside of Tokyo. I researched them all and they are all highly rated but it is also my first time staying in hostels.

Sorry, sharing a bathroom where you actually sit down and do your business and/or take a shower, dry off with the expectation of a clean toilet seat, clean towel and towel bar, clean floor only your feet touched, freely walk around naked to dry off, blow dry, those kinds of things are not done in a communal space by regular people. Toting your crap all at once to a bathroom. Are you poor? You must be male.
>>
>>2864306
Those things have been done in communal spaces by regular people for literally all of history. Are you autistic?
>>
>>2864278
>/trv/ absolutely mindbroken that people can have friends of the opposite gender
It's possible but OP is asking someone to share everything down to similar accommodations. OP is a retard if he can't put this together.
>>
>>2864278
You can have acquaintances, but the only reason anyone should get that intimate or close with the opposite sex is if they're looking to fuck.
Imagine if you had a gf and she told you she was going on a vacation with just her guy friend?
>>
Hostels are universally considered an inferior good for the poor, or those that can stand low quality products (and the people that it attracts).

No one in their right mind would want to spend any time in one when you can just pay for a hotel like a normal person.
>>
>>2864321
The opportunity to socialize is worth far more than anything a hotel can offer
>>
>>2864327
This. I've had so many great experiences in hostels that I would never have made in a hotel.
>>
>>2864329
>>2864327
You could always just leave your hotel and talk to people outside as well.
>>
>>2864315
>Imagine if you had a gf and she told you she was going on a vacation with just her guy friend?
Are you trying to make him cum? The guy is obviously into that kind of shit
>>
>>2864333
Most people outside are out doing their own thing and don't want to be bothered.
People in hostels actually expect to be talked to and are open to linking up
>>
>>2864341
Sounds like shit excuse to not leave your hostel and make genuine connections with real locals. If you can't manage to hold a conversation without a local you're likely on a spectrum or socially retarded.
>>
>>2864333
Have fun cold approaching random people on the street in a foreign country. In a hostel you already have like-minded people who are usually willing to socialize and who you gonna have to spend time with anyway.
>>
>>2864306
Most of the cheap hostel bathrooms don't even have shelves to put your clean clothes and personal items in the shower. Only a few hooks. It's very annoying.
>>2864123
Hostels nearly always have an artificially high rating from hostelfags who go "OMG I met such great people here, therefore this place is a 10/10" Whereas hotel guests rate their hotel based on the quality of the amenities, not based on how much fun they had on the property.
>>2864341
To the contrary, all the friends I've made in my travels have been in public spaces. Never in hostels, apart from this one group of Colombian pot smokers in Salento who were determined to make me part of their social circle. And no hostelfag ever seems interested in traveling anywhere that doesn't have hostels, i.e. the most visited 10% of a country. Locals OTOH are much more fascinated by the idea that a foreigner would actually be interested in exploring their villages and forests and such.
>>
>>2864082
Now I can't tell if every negative interaction I've had on 4chan are anons just being assholes, or anons trying to be friendly.

You fucking nigger! Am I doing it right?
>>
>>2864343
Locals don't give a fuck about interacting with tourists. Most will view you actively as a nuisance, especially in touristic places, because you can't speak the language and they know you'll fuck off tomorrow.
>>2864345
This. I swear people saying the opposite are complete autists with a real life experience.
>>2864361
You have shit tier ability to read subtext or can't do basic research if you can't pick out good hostels. There's plenty of reviews that focus on amenities and what is on the offer. Just filter by newest reviews and then sort by lowest and read at least 5 bad reviews to get an idea what the downsides are. Also price point is almost usually the best indicator of the quality. The most expensive hostel (still far cheaper than privates) in Kuala Lumpur was the best equipped one with plenty of amenities and good location as an example.
Interacting with locals is hit or miss. It's more likely than not that you won't speak the language. Sure if you visit some obscure village no one goes to (for a reason lmao, despite autistic contrarianism and hipsterism of the aging Millenial posters here places are popular for a reason most of the time) people will have some initial surprise as to why you're there but it's just that. It's much more rewarding spending your day exploring and then coming back and being able to properly communicate with people who are in a similar space as you (travelling) at the end of the day and having drinks, going out, hooking up, etc.
And I'll often get bored of hostels and the constant treadmill of meeting new people from having stayed in hostels for too long and I'll just rent privates in all fairness. I find it good to mix going from hostels to private rooms or flats and back.
>>
>>2864278
>/trv/ absolutely mindbroken that people can have friends of the opposite gender
You can when you're gay.

Have you ever seen boys at school always hanging around girls? That's the first clue that they are homosexuals.
>>
>>2864464
>You can when you're gay.
What about same sex friendships when you're gay? Is that forbidden then? Or have the gays unlocked the secret to unlimited friendships?
>>
>>2864466
>What about same sex friendships when you're gay? Is that forbidden then?
Gays are usually friends with other gays, unless it's a childhood friend who became gay along the way, in wich case the boundaries are clear.

These concerns aren't entirely unfounded, less of an issue in upmarket hostels but still, rich kids from the west often go nuts on holiday. Most hostels have female only dorms

But take the hint, book a private room in a hostel or an airbnb. Especially in France these are very common
>>
>>2864079
>I don't want to fuck her.

Hate to tell you but that doesnt matter. She wants the Dick, and if she doesnt get. it on your trip, shes likely to get cunty.

Clear things up beforehand and make it clear you want to stay in separate rooms or separate places, she will get the hint. Dont be surprised if shes not up for travelling anymore afterwards.

Gross. Hostels were the worst experience I've dver had. You won't sleep well, you cannot trust your things are safe, the owners don't care, the staff isn't paid and works there for a bed so they don't care either, it's not clean, lots of freaks, some people live there, the area is always shit and loud.

>implying the price for a simply private room isn't the same if even less than for a hostel in most countries

Around SEA, you even have branded party hostels that charge more than a hotel room per night. The times when hostels were simply low cost beds are long over, people go there to meet others during their travels. If you don't want taht, then simply don't go instead of trying to fabricate a fake sense of superiority while you jerk off in your lonely hotel room.
>>

Jerking off in an 8 bed hostel room is far superior

I'm the guy who worked in hostels.
Depends on what hostels you go. In most hostels it doesn't matter as long as you're not that guy. But there's some social hostels that aren't even party hostels and I rarely found anyone under 30 there. You'll definitely look out of place if you're older and especially if you look aged. In reality I've met people people who are old and stayed in hostels. They were social but weren't to try and slay women because they obviously couldn't lol.
>>
>>2865160
I hate that shit. I like that they have great atmosphere and filters out a lot of the weirdos and long term begpackers, but fuck me it's hard to justify paying that when I can get a decent hotel with good amenities for similar price.
>>
>>2865294
>great atmosphere and filters out a lot of the weirdos and long term begpackers

I stayed enough around normal hostels that do that as well, most that put an emphasis on being social without being full blown party hostels have no tolerance for weirdoes of all kinds. That, and hostels that are in out of the way non-touristy places, as they often contain interesting people and aren't attractive to the stinky hippy or drunken brit crowd.

>>
Oh it's time for the age-limit debate once again. The best bros I've met last year in a hostel were a 50 yo bald Turkish man getting away from the wife, a 70 yo Argentinian anarchist guy who told me there are only three great cultures in Europe: Greece, Italy and Turkey, the rest doesn't matter; another 70 yo Australian guy who looked like he was 40, and also two middle aged Serbs, one who had a frown and seemed really unfriendly but actually shared great cured meat he made himself and taught me things about local customs and history, another one who lived in California but was back in the Balkans for dental work and make me smoke weed, this last guy was completely crazy and broke my mind, how someone could be so knowledgeable about every subject but be so laid back at the same time.

Anyway I befriend both zoomers and boomers in hostels, I don't give a shit. If I can afford a room for my myself, I will, but in some countries, I'm not willing to spend 100€a night for that. Nobody gives a shit except you about your made-up social norms.

Less than 20% of men bald in their 30s. Its not a thing and never has been except for the unlucky few.
Btw, since getting older is one of the few things guaranteed in life, you are setting yourself up for a really bad time when you inevitably hit your own 30s. If you still adhere to those weird ass beliefs then, you will be ready to check into the old folks home instead of living life.
Maybe be more like the 19 yo zoomies I met in a hostel, who were spending their time with doing a motorbike tour through Laos instead of seething on online imageboards.

It depends on what kind of a hostel you're going to.

Party hostel? Even in late 20s that shit starts becoming too much like freshers night out. Early 30s is pushing it and most places won't accept anyone over 35 anyway.

Normal hostels? It doesn't really matter. If you're hitting on girls half your age you'll probably be seen as a weirdo. If everyone is in their early 20s while you're pushing 40 you'll probably get left out as they go out to party and do their own thing. When I was that age I wanted to go out with people my age or at least my generation. Its natural. If you're cool you'll be fine. If you're just sleeping there it matters even less.

People here have no common sense either they act like you absolutely can't stay in hostels past a certain age (they've got a point tbf; 9/10 if someone snores like a truck it's some ageing guy who is over 40) or that it doesn't matter at all (trust me you'll be be seen as a weirdo if you are 40 and party with a bunch of 20 year olds in a hostel).

By the time I hit 40s I'll try having enough means to do hotels or privates only. I like socialising while I travel but even in my late 20s I feel like I need space at the end of the day. Hostels aren't that great for picking up women these days, so I just go out to bars where tourists flock or use dating apps. So it's mostly economy why I still stay. With that said I had a blast in a party hostel not long ago. It was a lot of people in their mid-late twenties with a few people in their 30s and many early 20s.
>>2866052
I've never really found the last part true IRL, almost everyone looks their age or younger. People like to spam instagram influencers who have done weird procedures and random people begging for attention on TikTok like it's some proof. There's clearly a trend of people looking younger for longer.
>>
>>2866053
>I've never really found the last part true IRL, almost everyone looks their age or younger.
Maybe I should clarify a bit, most the hostels I stay in are 50/50 Americans and others. Most euros get close to my age, guessing 31-32; Americans(brits and aussies) can't tell what my age is and some of them look fucking ROUGH, the amount of 26 year olds with 40 year hairlines and cuts is bad and a bunch rock a dad body or bad face complex. I'm not staying in ultra party hostels either so that instagram crowd is usually lost on me. I'm sure depending on where you stay will change a lot of the crowds that people visit.

Most the hostels I stay in these days are in PH, JP, HK, Finland, or TW; often doing private rooms when possible because the locations and benefits like onsite washers, near the metro stop, common room to socialize in if not in the mood of walking too much, etc is still useful to me.
> most places won't accept anyone over 35 anyway.
The only place I see this shit in is like Netherlands and other WEEKEND WITH THE LADS! style places, I check for it but rarely ever bump into it in Asia outside Thailand, Bali, or similar stop.
