Honestly Austria, though granted, I did only go to Vienna. Really want to explore more, but Vienna alone was kinda meh. I did really like a lot of the attractions, but idk compared to the others I just thought it was ok. The day trip to Bratislava was honestly more memorable.

If I had to pick a favorite, I guess it's Turkey. Great sights variety (Greek ruins, Byzantine churches, Islamic architecture), fantastic food. I've never had any bad experiences with the people, everyone was always helpful and friendly. Used to be cheap too, which is always fun.
I don't think I've actively disliked any place in Europe. I can't bring myself to visit Scandinavia since the only thing on offer really is the nature and I can get that for a fifth of the price in the third world. So it's essentially stuck on an unfortunate eternal backburner.

I've been to N England once or twice as a very young child but I don't count because I don't remember anything including where I went, and I've never went as an adult.
I like english people, well the real ones, I like the outdoors and european culture so I will go some sort of road trip to England but likely somewhere like the cotswolds or the south-west, I have no interest in visiting bleak english cities, although my great grandfather is on some WW2 memorials in London as he's a famous pilot so I'll have to go to London at some point

I thought Vienna was okay but nothing special, I've been 3 times: Vienna, Salzburg and most recently Innsbruck and the countryside or smaller cities are beautiful and local culture and outdoor trails and activities have been amazing, I'd go back to the Austrian alps but not neccesarily Vienna so that makes sense.

I haven't really considered it even though I want to go to more of Germany, I went to Munich which I used basically as a base to visit the Bavarian alps including Fussen, Mittenwald and Garmisch which were amazing. I've also been to Nurnburg and Augsburg and didn't really like it, for me tourism in germany seems like smaller villages and resort towns are more ideal to the large cities for the same reasons as the UK or France

favorite: catalonia in spain

tarragona -> lleida -> barcelona -> girona was such a nice trip
I had a broken arm, so I couldn't actually go swimming at the beach, which kinda sucked.
however the history and other activities (like hiking) more than made up for it.

least favorite: andorra
it pretty much felt like all those social media influencers who are posting in dubai, but the mediterranean version of that. so it gave me iffies.
the nature was extremely nice though.

I haven't visited too many different countries because I usually travel to countries I already know and like. Either way:

I love Italy and France. I visit Sicily at least once every two years and there's always something to do. Favorite cities probably Catania and Syracuse, Palermo is also great. And if anyone ever visits South Tyrol, make a stop in Meran and visit the Botanical Garden, one of the prettiest places in Europe. France I'm a sucker for Paris although I have a soft spot for Southern France as well. I also had a blast in Riga, very underrated city, both in summer and in winter.

By far the least developed country I have visited which is perhaps why as I despise the modern world and all its amenities and conveniences for its soullessness but also Kyrgyzstan is almost like a dreamlike country, the sky is always blue, mountains are everywhere and the people are so sweet it is unreal.

Actually the ONLY country i've visited that I don't really like. Partly because I came from Mexico which has such a cool distinct culture with its own food, its own style, its own character and Guatemala is like all the shit aspects of mexico but without any of the cool parts. Guatemalan food is shit and they have no style.

OP I have some questions about Scotland. My gf and i plan to go next May or the year after. I'll have realistically 10 full days in the country. We are looking at staying in Inverness/Nairn area. We both wanna see castles/landscapes. I specifically would like to play golf 2-3 times. Questions are:

It's less about how different the countries are and more about the effort required to travel. In Europe, literally any teenager can hop on a train and visit a new country every weekend. They don't even need a passport in most cases.

You say that but for americans how many of them actually travel to different states? Yeah on the east coast maybe they frequent neighbouring states but most people have rarely left their states. I'm not saying to different states is like going to different countries but making the point that going to a different country in europe still requires a significant amount of effort and expense. Most people in europe have been to few euro countries unless they really genuinely like to travel

When you put it like that, probably Germany. Its not a completely different experience in each city but varied enough that going to cities can be fresh there. Its also very accessible outside of cities.

Was tempted to cross through the Bratislava and if I wasn't unwell at the time would have done. How was the 'Slava? Did you see the Blue Church? Were you able to fill in your day? Austrian countryside is great but the Tirol really takes it, even if you're not into Winter sports (I'm certainly not) the hiking and scenery are fantastic.

I agree on PA, such a great area, shame there's so many ruffians in the cities but alas. What did you like about Massachusetts? Did you meet J Mascis? How accessable were the state parks?

I thought Atlantic City was a poor man's Blackpool, didn't think it was possible for such a thing to exist! Its alright but the boardwalk and casinos being the only real attraction... its not for me. What did you enjoy?

Lost? As in foreigners? I did find Paris to be funny in that seeing actual French people was an oddity. But the foreigners themselves seemed alright and some of the Algerian fellas at one of the hotels gave me free beer. Belgium I sympathise with. Its such a bland country much like the Netherlands. I went to Devin Castle, then Bratislava castle, a local cafe, then the Christmas market in the main square, then the Soviet war memorial.
I enjoyed it. It easily has enough to fill a whole day, but also you can probably do everything in a day. It's kinda how I feel about Ottawa too. Worth a visit, but as a day trip. Only thing I missed out on was the food because I got sick and couldn't stomach anything more than some soup.

Been to Northampton, Salem, Gloucester, Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard. Never been to Boston, though it's on my list. I just really like the vibes, pretty coastal towns, good sea food. I went to Salem for Halloween once and had a blast. Coolest attraction in MA I've seen so far is Hammond castle. Most disappointing was the Calvin Coolidge library (it's literally just a single room inside a regular library). Didn't visit a single state park, though did in NH

It's kinda the go to beach vacation spot for people living in southeastern PA. I'm not really a beach fan anyway, but I prefer it to other beach spots because at least it has some pizzazz. Basically every part of the world has a place like Atlantic City these days, but for what it is it's not terrible.

It's a new development. Last time I've been there in 2022 I bought a museum pass that covered almost all the sites I wanted to see from Izmir to Istanbul, save for Dolmabahce and some minor exceptions here and there. I paid around 45 Euro (priced in Lira). Today the exact same pass costs 165 (priced in Euro). The watermelon seller really wants his hard currency.
As for Slovenia, to be honest I can't tell you much, at least nothing that'd be worthwhile today. I've only really been to Postojna cave and some small towns along the way as part of a longer car trip ~20 years ago. A revisit is on my to do list.

favourite so far: Malta and Turkey; Malta is a super interesting and beautiful country with rich culture and a fascinating history. It's really cheap and because it's so small it's really easy to travel around. The most fascinating thing about Malta is it's mishmash of cultures. Malta can easily be described as where Europe meets the Arab world. As for Turkey, I was a kid when I went so it was less about seeing the sites and experiencing the culture and more getting toys and the nice weather. Still pretty fun though.

least favourite: Easily Spain and France, both of these countries have completely undeserved reputations of being nice and luxurious places to visit when in reality both Spain and France are overpriced dumps. Not to mention the two nations have really leaned in to the tourist craze so they both booth feel like giant blackpool's.

Some state abbreviations are much more common in spoken language than others. You'll hear all the time people refer to Pennsylvania as "Pee-Ayy", but I have never heard anyone ever call Massachusetts "Em-Ayy", or "Maaaa".
CO is Colorado which, now that I think about it, is rarely ever abbreviated in spoken vernacular, at least not that I've heard, but still it's easier to just abbreviate.
It's not like this is unique to the US anyway. Everyone says BGC and CDMX

if you like outdoors Arthur's seat is a nice hill walk for good views in the Holyrood park next to the palace of Holyroodhouse which you can also go into, it was the royal palace before the uk. there's also obviously the national musuem and edinburgh castle which are close by one another for local history.

I'd reccommend Glencoe, it's basically the stereotypical thing people think about when they think about the highlands. Further north there is the Glenfinnan Viaduct from harry potter which is a nice walk, shortly thereafter is Mallaig which is a really nice little village and this area has some of the best beaches in Scotland. Skye is probably the most beautiful part of Scotland and easily accessible from Mallaig by ferry
