Best and most reliable e-sim?
just came back from a week in japan. February is underrated as hell for visiting
>>2865693Where's that trip report?
>>2865629He's gonna be so embarrassed if he ever learns Japanese people are humans, not exhibit entities
planning on visiting in August to Tokyo or Osaka. Gonna bring a good buddy with. Is that a good time to go? I feel like Tokyo would have better nightlife.
>>2865707I mostly just chilled for a week but I went to Kyoto I could actually go around the city without dealing with hordes of chink tourists which was nice. The weather was just right for exploring, I was there last september and going outside made me want to commit suicide. I went to Osaka Expo 2025 back then and I got to experience what Auschwitz prisoners felt as they were thrown in the ovens. What the locals call winter feels more like fall for normal people. I still got kinda sick of the few tourists that were in Kyoto so I took the train to Nara and chilled with the deer. Overall solid 8.5/10 experience, didn't get to do much though so next time I'm staying for 2 weeks minimum
>>2865629Do Japanese women have bad breath?
Heading out to Japan tomorrow. 13 and half hour flight. I kind of gave up on planning absolutely everything. Have no real plan for 2 week stay. Just general locations I want to visit. I'm not sure even where I'll get the Welcome Suica card in Narita but hope it's easy.
>>2865719Charlotte walked there
>>2865750If this is your first time you could easily spend the whole 2 weeks just in tokyo. don't try cramming too many locations into your vacation
>>286575413 days. Tokyo -> Kyoto -> Osaka with some day trips sprinkled. Also I'm doing Tokyo Marathon so there will be at least one day I can barely walk.
>>2865757Looks like a solid plan. Personally Tokyo was my favorite by far and I didn't care much for Osaka. If you find that osaka is too trashy consider taking the train to Kobe, there's a nice chinatown there with good restaurants
>>2865761Everyone kept saying Osaka is must see. I will spend there 2 and half days before heading back home.
>>2865763yeah if you like nightlife and maybe sexpat stuff it's the best place by far but I just thought that it was a dump. I guess it's still worth seeing to experience the gritty side of japan
>>2865719>I was there last september and going outside made me want to commit suicide. Are the Japanese summers really that bad? Kinda tempted to go to Japan again in late August/early September this year, but I do plan to maybe head northward to Tohoku and Hokkaido after landing in Tokyo.
first time international traveler. booked for 16 days in June, landing in Narita in the early afternoon. How should I split up Tokyo/Kyoto/Osaka/day trips?I've been told it's better to end in Tokyo, for shopping purposes. So, should I allocate maybe a 7 day block for Kyoto as homebase, do Osaka and other shit as day trips, then move onto Tokyo mainbase+day trips for the next 9?
>>2865786If you live in Houston you probably won't find it that bad but I'm canadian so it was a shock to the system. In mid-september last year multiple days went over 100 freedom units
>>2865635Just my two cents since you're asking, but I haven't actually been to around the Chugoku region myself. I'm going there this year around a similar time as you (late spring). I'm planning on visiting Onomichi as a day trip from Hiroshima, but other locations I'm planning on going to in the region are:>Hiroshima for Shukkeien Garden, the Peace Park, and Miyajima>Okayama for the Korakuen Garden and Okayama Castle>Okayama for the Kibitsuhiko Shrine and Kibitsu Shrine >Kurashiki for the Bikan Historical Quarter>Takahasi for the Bitchu-Matsuyama CastleThere's also the Kure Maritime Museum in the region with the 1/10 scale Yamato model, but personally I'm not too interested in that. There's also Northern Shikoku:>Marugame for Marugame Castle and Kotohiragu, can also get to Takaya Shrine from Marugame>Takamatsu for Ritsurin Koen and Yashima
>>2865808>but I'm canadian so it was a shock to the systemAh okay. that makes sense. Any notable experience with the supposed typhoon season that happens around September? I haven't been to Japan during the August-September period, my past trips have been during much more mild seasons like in early spring (late Mach to April) or mid autumn (October).
>>2865811It barely even rained the whole week I was there, I probably got lucky
>>2865786I'm from PNW and when I was in osaka in july and it rained but that did nothing for the mugginess but only made things worse, it was the biggest betrayal of my life.
Any free alternative for the Sakura Navi app for sakurameme?Having a thousand spots with their blooming date on a handy map will be useful, not necessarily because I'll want to go to these spot, but if I'm in an area and it's just a 10min detour for some low-mid spot, then why the fuck not.Worst comes to worst I'll just buy the App, it's not like it'll ruin me. But I made sure I never bought any App since smartphones exist.
>>2865750>Heading out to Japan tomorrow. 13 and half hour flightSame and same. Damn, we might be on the same flight
>>2865687Holafly
>>2865828When people talk about cherry blossoms, they always mention the Yoshino cherry trees, but right now the Kawazu cherry trees are in full bloom. Just a 10-minute walk from JR Sobu Line Hirai Station or a 15-minute walk from Toei Subway Higashi-Ojima Station, the embankment along the old Nakagawa River is lined with Kawazu cherry trees in full bloom. Compared to Yoshino cherry trees, Kawazu cherry blossoms last longer, allowing you to enjoy hanami well into March.

>>2865786People from Southeast Asia say Japanese summers are insufferable and far worse than anything they've ever experienced, if that tells you anything. You simply will not cool off and you will not feel like you can relax until you're back in your hotel, AC on high, taking a shower. I live here and July to November, sometimes even December, are just the worst weather I've experienced anywhere. The sun beats down and doesn't relent, humidity is maxed out, temperatures reach about 40 C/105 F, and you can't even take a deep breath because the air is so damp that you choke on it. Nights are worse than daytime because the humidity rises while the temperature only drops about 2 degrees. And every single day is the same temperature. It'd be better if some days were extra hot and some days were cooler, but no, you'll get a full 3 months where the weather is exactly the same every single day. And if it rains, it doesn't feel any better. It feels worse because the rain is hot and just makes you feel even warmer.

>>2865757Are you planning to run wearing an anonymous mask?
>>2865794That sounds fine enough. Osaka doesn't really have much to offer (saying this will piss off people who get drunk with other foreigners and make that their whole trip) so making Kyoto the main during your time in that area would be fine.
>>2865750Suica cards in narita are from the ticket terminals. I think its in the basement levels. Theres big signs, or just find a ticket guy to speak to they'll know.
>>2865875>get drunk with other foreignersis that an Osaka thing? I wanted to have that experience at least once, thought it'd be more common in tokyoon that note, where would one go to get drunk with random young japanese people? or are they generally not intrigued by foreigners?
>>2865872>ugly white men ruining it for handsome white menStop. If you can’t get laid in the states, don’t try to get laid in a foreign country. If you’re good looking in the states, go out and get laid.
>>2865750>>2865881why do people get welcome suicas?you buy 1 ticket into tokyo and then you can get one that doesn't expire in 30 days, that you can recover the balance on if you lose it
>>2865886Your best place to get drunk with young Japanese people was 6 years ago in Japan. Now some people might still drink with you, but a growing majority are just tired of foreigners and will avoid locations where they see them.If you want to go to a bar and get drunk, just go. Maybe a Japanese person will want to talk to you. But it's increasingly a Bali situation where any place you go will be a few dozen other drunk tourists and locals stay far away in their own communities.
>>2865886> where would one go to get drunk with random young japanese peopleStep 1: Be good lookingStep 2: Find a Japanese woman who can speak English on a dating appStep 3: Go out to drink with her and her friends
>>2865891Speaking about that, just wondering, how does the IC card recovery process work anyway assuming you lose it? I grabbed a full ICOCA card last time I was in Osaka, but I read online that ICOCA cards can't be registered unless you have an Apple phone. Would the code on the back of the card be enough to recover it?
>>2865891Oh i thought anon said regular suica cards. I got my regular one from narita airport.>why do people get welcome suicas?Haneda airport in 2024 didnt have any regular ones when i went so i had to get the welcome one. It was fine enough, but knowing the regular one i got last year hasnt expired is so much nicer.
>>2865872>doesn't enjoy yuriwhat a fag
>>2865786its hot! i was told by a friend that late septmeber was still hot. so i checked weather statistics of the places i was going and planned my trip for mid october. it didnt even matter, Kyoto and Osaka were hot as hell even in october. in fact when i looked at the climate data, the temperatures were consistently in the top percentile for heat, well above average consistently. i think november and jan february may be the best times to go to japan. being super hot is way worse than a little chilly
>>2865899don't know if you can, suica cards are associated with your name and phone number and there's a process, icoca cards just come out of a machine I think
>>2865786If you're going in the summer you better load up on merino wool t-shirts to soak up the sweat
>>2865871Huh, I'm from SEA and late Oct/early Nov (~15c) is already kinda cold for me. Never felt the humidity either, thought that was a summer thing.>>2865875What's at Kyoto other than temples and shrines? I've only been there once and I think I prefer Osaka. Non-drinker btw.
I got an opportunity to study abroad in Japan from mid-September to early February (~4 months). This isn’t a vacation or 2-week anime pilgrimage, I’d be enrolled full-time and working toward my degree.I’d actually be living there, dealing with classes, daily life, culture shock, language barrier, all of it, not just tourist highlights. It’s a big decision. Cost, being away from home, adjusting to a different academic system. But it’s also a rare opportunity and I might not get another shot like this.tl;dr; For anyone who’s lived in Japan long-term: was it worth it? Would I regret not going? Trying to decide between taking the leap or staying comfortable.I’ll be honest my niggers, I'm a weeaboo. I’ve got a lot of respect for Japan’s culture, tech, anime, and games, so I know I’d enjoy being there. But part of me wonders if I’m romanticizing it. I could always just visit later as a tourist instead of committing to four months abroad for school. Decisions, decisions.
>>2865935You're probably romanticizing it but it's still great and you will have a great time despite being slightly disappointed. 4 months in another country really isn't that big of a deal since you won't be uprooting your entire life, so just go for it
>>2865935fuck else you gonna dolive while you're young
>>2865629Woah, he’s just like me
>>2865935You will absolutely regret not going. You can travel to a country at any age, but the years in which you can live somewhere as a student and be immersed in that lifestyle are very limited.Even if it somehow sucks ass, you're going to look back on those days for the rest of your life. Think: you could be comfortable at home for a few months, but those months will just be a blur when you look back on them 20 years from now, but you'll absolutely remember those months you spent in Japan no matter what. And if you love it, being a student would transfer quite easily into working in Japan. If you hate it, then you just go home after your time is done. But if you visit Japan years later only as a tourist without ever doing a study abroad, it's a lot harder to get your foot in the door and you'll forever have that regret. One of my biggest life regrets is letting myself get bound down by a girlfriend in college. I missed out on countless opportunities to experience new things because I thought I should stay home and be with her. She cheated on me and disappeared the first month of my last year of college. At that point it was too late for any sort of study abroad. Every single one of my friends talked about how great their study abroad time was, and I fucked it all up for a girl who didn't give a shit about me. Ultimately I did move away from America years later, but I'll always regret not taking that chance when I had it. Four years of college were spent doing the same shit every damn day when I could've had months of wild adventures as a student and not needing to worry about bills and other responsibilities.
pick up spots in Tokyo? no piss taking, actual PUA opinions only
>>2865935I'm currently studying at a language school (not uni by any means, but still a school) and I would recommend doing it. Not taking chances like this is what I was missing in life. It's fun being an alien for several months and exploring your passions.

>>2865629Is there no event information for Kyoto and Osaka?
>>2865811I spent 5 days in Tokyo and 5 in Kyoto with a layover near Mt Fuji between back in September 2023. Here was my experience:>TokyoVery humid and hot but pleasant at night and morning. Overcast skies throughout with one or two days of very heavy rain.>FujiWarm but not as bad as the cities. Sunny with broken clouds stuck to the mountains until later afternoon when it got overcast and almost too cold to be outside in just a t-shirt. Next day brilliant sunshine.>KyotoGenerally sunny, one day of very heavy rain.In other words, the best thing you can do for yourself is pack long, loose linen clothing, maybe a light wool sweater just in case, and acquire an umbrella on site. Denim, heavier cotton, and poly blends will fuck you in the ass.
>>2865786I went in late September last year, and though there were some very hot days, it was at least bearable due to the lack of humidity. And that's the thing with summer in Japan, it's the humidity that gets you.
>>2866036September lack of humidity? Where the hell did you go? I experienced no less than 90% every single day.
>>2865913Arashiyama's Monkey Park is a pretty unique experience, but it does require a short walk up a mountain. For modern stuff, Teamlabs just opened there last year. There's also the Nintendo Museum, but I think you still need to get tickets through a lottery system.Shopping should be ok since it's a major city. Not my thing at all, but I think there's some decent vintage shopping places if that interests you.Not much of a drinker either and don't really care for the nightlife scene, but I heard it's very limited in Kyoto.
>>2865687TravelJapan
Is it feasible to climb Mt Fuji and descend in a single day? Or is it worth it to book and overnight stay and catch the sunrise at the top?
How do I engage in a samurai battle and fight off ninjas?
>>28659982 Chome
>>2866056If you're experienced, maybe. But having done a few smaller climbs I wouldn't try to conquer Fuji in a day. You'd have to start at sunrise and you'd be done by sunset if you went bullet climbing. Not really fun going that pace and carries risks.
>>2866059I see. It wouldn't be my first time mountain climbing and I am decently fit. Although you're probably right that it is more fun to start in the afternoon/evening and do a relaxing climb and then hang out with others at the top while watching the sunrise before descending. It just seems like the overnight lodgings are so expensive.
I'm going to check out some akiyas in a few months im scared im going to end up in a nice looking house thats actually filled with those fuckoff huge hornets and centipedes
>>2866071The jap "countryside life" vlogs I watch tell me that's definitely the case. They always sleep with those nets around the bed.
>>2866039Was in the Tokyo area for the Tokyo Game Show, so that was around the last weekend of September. Think the average temperature were still around the mid 20's, but it never felt like the Japanese summers I've felt before. Also went to Osaka and Kanazawa soon after and same story there.
>>2866043>Nintendo Museum and TeamlabsGood one, I forgot the museum existed and didn't know Teamlabs opened there. Gonna go in May so I'm just in time for Nintendo's ticket lottery.>Monkey ParkMight go for this if weather permits. Would you say the walk up is tough for older/unfit people? Googling gives me mixed answers.
Im curious if i wanted to have japanese women press their asses or have ther legs touch mine in the trains or buses, which are the best citys and lines/routes to take and what hours? Im not planning on doing chikan or anything but i’d like for happenstance have a japanese ass pressed onto me

I want to fly in and board a airbnb or hyatt hotel near this address 6-6 Sakuragaokacho, Shibuya, Tokyo 150-0031, Japan. Hows the process of getting a bus and train transportation card as soon as i step into japan? Do they sell them at the airports? Depending on which i airport i land in?
Are there many BBQ style dishes or places that serve simple grilled meats or even baked meats? Like is it easy to find a rice bowl of decent quality with some beef or chicken and an easy going sauce and some soup on the side
>watch travel vloggers for ideas on planning a stay in Kanazawa >they all say the same thing: aside from the token mentions of the castle gardens, omicho and the old districts, its always something like "day trip to shirakawago" or "day trip to takayama" or "day trip to kaga-onsen"Apparently, the single funnest thing you can do while in Kanazawa is to get the fuck out of Kanazawa.
>>2865629im planning a trip right now, i have only a few questions, im going to travel with my brother, is 5k usd each enough for a japan trip?im saudi arabian, are they going to be unwelcoming like they are with indians?im not looking to go to nightclubs or red light districts, just explore japan for a month, want to visit a bunch of small towns, cuz im an artist and am interested in visiting areas where mangakas grew up in.

>>2866158Including hotel? That might be around 5-10k/day for the standard ones. If you're not planning to spend for more than transport and food you can maybe make it depending on where you're staying.
>>2866155Nobody is looking at you. There are 40 million tourists. You blend in with everyone else.
>>2866176i dont plan on staying in the hotel all day, i just want a place to lay my head and use the bathroom, going to spend the whole timeexploring japan, im not a big restaurant guy, so im jsut going to eat once a day. maybe ramen or sushi cuz ill be in japan, i dont drink, so you can imagine im not gonna waste much money. im thinking, >1k total for hotels, >500 for food, >2.5k is for flights >1k for emergencies.
>>2866161>Whenever I see someone with a stubble or unkempt beard I just assume they're jobless, lazy, or mentally ill, usually it's correct.Plenty of Jap dudes who aren’t salaryman drones or limp faggots have stubble or beards (as best as they can grow them). Anyway, why care what some mindless foid thinks of you anyway? Not like any of them would fuck you.
>>2866185>500/30 is 16Very doable if you're only eating once a day, family restaurants and the like are usually around 1k per meal.Don't forget to account for transport unless you're walking everywhere, you can easily hit 1-2k/day.
>>2866185>i dont drink, so you can imagine im not gonna waste much money.Even if you did it would not make much of a difference. Japan has some of the cheapest alcohol in the world. If you have low tolerance you can get trashed for 1000 yen a day.

I'm planning to go to Japan for 16 days excluding the arrival and departure days. However, I feel like I might be trying to see too much and that it is going to feel like I'm rushing through things, especially with having to drag a suitcase around. My plan is to spend the first 3 days in Tokyo doing touristy stuff but avoiding shopping.Afterwards going to Kyoto for 3 days plus a day trip to Nara. Then going to 2 days in Osaka plus a day trip to Hiroshima.Lastly going north to Sendai for 2 days. Then returning to Tokyo for the final days and do some shopping + other touristy stuff. It feels like it might be too much and that I would lose a lot of time traveling. Is the Hiroshima and Sendai parts perhaps too much and not worth bothering with?
Eating in Yakitori at the moment.Didn't look at the prices but most people here seem locals so maybe I don't get scammed.
>>2866267Sendai is a weird choice when you have cities like Nagoya, Kanazawa, Nagano in your way.Overall, luggage shouldn't be that much of an issue when every hotel advertizes pre-check-in and post-check-out luggage storage
>>2866269It's because I want to see the northern part of the country as well. I actually wanted to go to Sapporo, but from what I read it is pretty rough to get there if you're not flying, so Sendai felt like a decent compromise.
>>2866099Yamanote line, specifically Harajuku or Shinjuku
>>2866271Massive investment of time and money just to see "the North". Hokkaido and Tohoku probably deserve their own seperate trip. Go see the Japanese alps or something.
>>2866267i would clean up your itinerary, you're going to spend a massive amount of time on trains, especially with the day trip stuff, osaka to hiroshima and back alone is going to be 3 hours out of your day just travelling, so probably cut one of those outi'd maybe go tokyo(3)>nagano or niigata(2-3)>kyoto(4)>tokyo(2), maybe with a day in or around shizuoka/hamamatsu on the way back to tokyomore time in less places is better, and like the other anon said, the northern parts are worth the investment on their own, i did about two weeks split between hokkaido/akita/yamagata/sendai and it was a great time
>>2866267I had a very similar plan last year and im gonna be honest with you anon it did feel rushed, I would cancel Sendai and spend extra couple days in Tokyo to relax.
>>2866271Just fly then? It's very cheap and efficient
will I get looked down as a poorfag if I go to japan by local people and other richer foreigners?
>>2866295If you are >fat>brown >not East Asian>ugly (most important)>smells It’s gonna worsen your self esteem but nobody cares. You are an tourist and they are an afterthought to them

>>2866092It's been years since I've last visited the Monkey Park (pre covid), so my memory of it is a bit fuzzy!I don't recall the walk to be that steep, but it did take me about 15-20 minutes and it was pretty much a constant climb up ramps and some stairs. Don't think it's a huge issue for unfit people, and there are also places to rest along the way if you really need to, but the stairs might be an issue for the elderly or someone with a disability. There might be alternate paths you can take to ignore the stairs, but I'm not 100% sure about that.

Why should people not permanently relocate to Japan? I’m looking at my country and not seeing a lot worth staying for and I’m having a hard time envisioning a great life for my descendants. What am I not considering about Japan that I should?
Have any of you weebs tried kendo?
>>2866378The biggest downside for me is that they don't allow dual citizenship, and I would never cut ties with my home country that permanently. Imagine having to apply for visa in order to visit friends or family. Residency is not good enough if you plan to settle permanently, if its spousal residency you can lose it if you get divorced, and the courts will always favor native women for child custody. And just the principle of it desu, if I'm to live somewhere permanently I want the ability to fully participate in society, including voting or getting involved in local politics.
>>2866382It seems like giving up voting rights to make sure your grandkids grow up in a safe country with a high standard of living is a small price to pay. People give up their whole lives for that in most other countries.
>>2866378The countryside is so cheap and the JPY so low right now I legit could already retire. I just want to chill out in some forgotten depopulated island on the Seto area, it's peak comf.Alas, they won't want me. Unless I put a baby in a local womb, but then I couldn't retire anymore.Shitsux. If only visa allowed to stay at least for a full year or something.
>>2866382>I want to be a fifth column in a country I'm not willing to pledge exclusive allegiance toThis seems to be a common theme with expats, especially the white ones.
>>2866386That’s not exactly what a fifth column is but we get your point.
>>2866385Why can’t you just teach?
>>2866384If they even let you stay, that's the point I'm trying to make. No way I'm building a future in a country that could rob me of that future at a moments notice. But my nation is not that bad so my calculus is different.
Shill me on the Izu peninsula. I'll probably rent a car and drive alongside the coastline. Should I spend 1 night, two nights, three nights? (likely at different spots, if you have any town recomendation I'm all ears). Also, since for once I'll have a car instead on relying on trains, surely there's some interesting shit to see inland? Though I think I'll be occupied enough with just the coast.Maybe a sidetrip to Oshima island also.
>>2866398Why would they not? I agree that there’s no guarantee if all you have is a visa or permanent resident card, but I don’t see why they’d just kick all law abiding tax paying social harmony abiding visa holders out. Plus, it doesn’t seem that hard to obtain citizenship, which in your lifetime gives you legal protection, and if your kids are half ethnic Japanese they’d have both legal protection and social toleration. Honestly, I’d be more worried about gangs of Japs killing random gaijin at the market like in the Commodore Perry days than I would worry about visas being revoked just cause.

Why did nobody tell me that when a japanese tells you "I hope we can meet again" it actually means "we won't meet again"?
>>2866472Prices have nearly doubled the last few years. It's still cheap for people paying in dollars or euros. More and more Japanese people don't buy convenience store food or anything anymore because it's too expensive for locals now. Bento used to max out at 499 yen with many great ones at 350, but sometimes there are 900 yen bento now with portions much smaller than they used to be and ingredients of far lower quality than before.

>>2866382I am renouncing my citizenship the first chance I get but I am from Canada which is an absolute shithole. Even being an English teacher I would see a massive improvement of my standard of living.
>>2866382Are there any weird hoops for spousal residency besides getting married?
>>2866400I plan to stay at Atami for 3 nights during my upcoming Japan trip, my idea is to rent a car for one day to explore then spend remaining 2 days just goofing around nearby beach towns and relaxing.Kawazu Seven Waterfalls is one inland plance I will want to visit by car, then also Shimoda town. Supposedly the western side is more interesting/wild but also has worse roads so I might skip it.

It's quite simple: I don't need anything else. I can live 20 days out of this.
I've been in Fukuoka for the last 4 months on a student visa. It was really rocky at the start but I'm starting to enjoy it. I was kind of planning on leaving before April which would grant me a tuition refund from my language school (around $2.5k) but really trying to decide if going back to the States is something I wanna do right away or not. I have plenty of savings but being away from a job for almost a year seems really irresponsible and would be hard to explain why I have such a large gap. Another reason is that I met a girl from Laos who is really sweet and it's making the end-tail of my trip really enjoyable. I kind of want to spend more time but it's doomed anyways as I have no long-term plan unless I find a job of my profession (accounting) which seems impossible with my gaijin level of japaneseI'm also very, very nervous of being here during the summer heat. I got a very small taste of it when I came here in October and even that was kind of annoying. Fuark brehs. It's like one side of me wants to GTFO from here because I honestly can't stand the feeling of being a gaijin. I don't want to try to fit in or make people accept me, I'd rather just fuck off. But I'm also enjoying the privileged life of a student who doesn't have any real responsibilities. I also want to take advantage of the healthcare and get some skin issues sorted out.
>>2866615How do you even afford to live, trust fund faggot?

>>2866640>>2866647Lol, you are both a special breed. Damned if you do, damned if you don't? And for my situation - as opposed to what? Not quitting my job and waiting until I'm 40+ with savings? Or being 20 something and somehow affording it, e.g. trust fund baby like you claimed I was? Like I mentioned, living here has been an incredible experience so far with tons of ups and downs. I'm now just trying to decide if extending it for 6+ more months is worth it or not
>>2866652did you rike it?
>>2866657I don't think staying for longer or not will matter since you've already quit your job of 8 years. If you were considering staying indefinitely, that would be a different question. Of course, I'm speaking from a utilitarian standpoint, since I can't imagine quitting a secure job to go to language school. You might think that's the greatest thing ever, I just think it's stupid. If I were in your situation I'd have applied to a Japanese university instead, or just stayed home and gotten married at your age.

>>2866615the heat and humidity in the summer along with the rains suck serious ass. Just find places with AC which is everywhere and you can somewhat make it through. Just take it into account if you want to do anything active outdoors. If you are down in Fukuoka you might want to check out some of the places on Kyushu. Nagasaki is a beautiful city with the street cars and riverside/stream running through town. It is serious vibes. I stayed at a guesthouse there a while back run by some lady with an extensive kimono selection. She really takes guests in like part of the family as well hooking me up with nabe and fruit. I also recommend Beppu as a hot spring town as well. There were a couple of really old school springs there where you pay like 100 yen into a bowl and just go down into someone's basement and dip into the hot fire. There are also springs for looking at there that go different colours due to the minerals they bring up called the Hells.

>>2867170The biggest reason right now is 'hay fever' (kafunsho). Japan has a lot of cedar and cypress trees, and from February to April, they release massive amounts of pollen. About half of the population suffers from it, so wearing a mask is a very common and effective way to reduce those symptoms. Also, masks have been a part of Japanese culture for a long time, even before COVID-19, for things like flu season or hay fever. So for many, it's just a habit that provides a sense of comfort and security . Some people, especially younger women, also wear them because it makes them feel more comfortable without makeup.

Hi guys, traveling to tokyo soon and planning to stay 1 night around Fujiyoshida.I want to hit these spots:> lake yamanaka> chureito pagoda> oshino hakkai> lawson fujikawaguchiko town hall> oishi park> lake kawaguchi areaMy plan is to bus to Fujiyoshida area and base there for 1 night. Question is, is this realistically doable without renting a car, relying only on buses and train? Looking at the maps the spots seem pretty far apart and walking doesn’t look practical.Or should I just book a bus tour from Klook? Its just me and my girlfriend though.
>>2867559Why not try renting an electric assist bike? Hills are a breeze!

>>2867385Anon, Japan's an introvert's paradise. You can self check-in and check out at hotels. You can use a self-register at convenience stores or supermarkets. All train and metro stations have english options nowadays, same thing with buying tickets into tourist attractions. You can choose to pay by cash, ic card, foreign credit card, or QR code. Case in point, I just had an all-you-can-eat hotpot course today and I didn't need to interact with anyone but the cashier. You use the touch screen at the entrance to get a ticket to your table. You then use the touch screen at your table to order your food. The food's delivered to your table by a jingling roomba. All of the touch screen has english option

How hard is it to learn japanese? Enough for basic conversational and transactional purposes. I been to japan a couple times and i know you can more or less get by with a couple sumimasens, arigatos, onagaishimash, kudasai, pettanko, kore, to, hitori, daijobu, doko, numbers for getting cigarettes at combini etc... but im thinking next time i wanna do that whole hokkaido road trip thing, which will definitely have me out in the sticks with less places having english on the signs and menus etc... its probably doable with a dozen words or phrases, but im really considering maybe making an active effort to learn a bit more. Not full fluency or anything, but at least not having the coffeeshop staff default to english 5 seconds into the conversation because i dont know how to respond when they asking size, hot vs cold, do i have a points card or whatever. That shits consistently embarassing, no problem in checking in, out, having bags held at hotel, bars or restaurants or combini; not a word of english spoken, feel like a savvy traveler. Every fucking time i went in a coffeeshop, seconds later they're handing me the english menu and asking me what size/temp etc... in english and i feel like a dumb gaijinIs it worth learning more? Is it easy to do so online for free? Or is this more of one of those any additional is going to be extremely difficult and nominal improvements over the handful of transactional phrases i already know unless i try go for full fluency which is either going to be extremely time consuming and/or require external paid assistance to get anywhere?

>>2868293/trv/ is definitely the opposite of Japanese twitter. While /trv/ complains about Indians, Japanese twitter complains about the Chinese, Indonesians, Kurds, and Vietnamese.
>>2868324It's because to the untrained eye, it's hard to tell Asians apart. But Asians are competitively racist. While we go "that person is a different shade of skin", the Japanese go "their eyes have a slightly different squint"
>>2868324Probably a reflection where the bots come from and where they choose to establish their hunting grounds.I can count with two hands the number of indian-looking people I came across on my trip. The chinese people on the other hand - countless. They have official chinese announcements on their subways, and every self-serve kiosks has chinese language option alongside english. It's there for train tickets, convenience stores, and their restaurants.
Suggest me something to eat that does not have rice or onions.
>>2868330>onions I mean onions. No idea how it auto corrected to onions.
>>2868331What? >s o y
>>2868330Karage. Gyudon. Idk there's billions of options.
>>2868330spaghetti neapolitan
How good is the osaka aquarium? The only aquarium in my local city sucks major ass, best to assume we dont even have one.
>>2868243bro you will have great time, posts complaining about how Akiba has fallen and Nigerians are everywhere come likely from schizo /pol/tards that never even been there. I've traveled all over Japan last year and it was amazing, I saw only a few blacks around Harajuku and Shibuya, few times an Indian clerk in a kombini, thats it. 99% of people you'll see on the streets are East Asians, especially if you take literally 5 minutes to walk away from the main tourist attractions.
>>2868345Id say its worth it, its this weird setup where you're walking down this descending spiral with a giant tank in the middle with whale sharks n shiet, and all sorts of smaller tanks on the sides with other critters, i had a really good time there last month
ppl will be mad because japan is the one autistic destination u can never talk shit about ever... but this place is so fucking miserable to solo travel. to the point where i cant wait to fucking leave... ive been with others before and in good company with my gaijins its a good time, but it really does feel like 3 hours of the day is trying not to kill somebody in train traffic staring at 10000 people on an iphone, and then navigating identical buildings.
What are some good, picturesque onsen towns? I was planning to go to Gunma but have no idea which onsens were good and which oned are tourist traps.Maybe outside of Gunma theres better places
I've realized I'm far too autistic for street food and places with a lot of people. >Just find a place and go in an order foodI just can't do it. Especially when there's a high chance no one will speak English. It just triggers my autism. I just eat in 7-11 all the time. Also>Go to Ichiran Ramen>They ask how many people>I say I'm on my own >They say I will have to wait 40 minutes>I start waiting>Some couple comes>They immediately get in>I leave
>>2868360ichiran always does some bullshit with mobile order queue shit while also having some people just wait in a line... the other day they gave me the mobile queue and when i came back 40 minutes later i had to walk up a flight of stairs of screaming chinese kids and western couples who said "reservation" as my mentally ill white ass walked by like im making a reservation for fucking ramen.
>>2868305i shit in public if its late enough.8 years estrogen.
>>2868360>>2868361Definitely not worth the effort or wait just for Ichiran. I'm not saying they're terrible and I guess I get it if you're curious and need to try it out yourself, but they're very overrated. Plus most ramen places use the ticketing system at the entrance, so they're just as easy to dine in at. Worst case scenario is needing to use google translate to figure out which button to press.
>>2868357Sounds like you're the only one who is mad here, faggot.
>>2868357Just curious but what exactly made your experience miserable, outside of the crowds and identical buildings?I've been to Japan at least a dozen of times and at least half of them were solo trips, and personally I've always had a great time on my trips. Things didn't always go perfectly as planned and there were moments it felt a little lonely being solo, but otherwise I had a blast.
>>2868403Nta but i fucking love japan for solo travel, i have to deal with a lot of people on a daily basis, and while i wouldn't consider myself antisocial or anything, it is nice to get away from it all and be truly alone with your thoughts for an extended period of time, and just like do whatever the fuck you want all the time, change the plan on a whim, no concerns for how anyone else is feeling or wanting to do. Solid "me" time. If you're feeling like having a chat, just hit up a bar, buy the bartender a drink and talk with him of theres nobody else around, or fuck hit up a hub they're everywhere and you can always find some fellow gaijin to talk to.Honestly, solo travel is the only thing i ever do because in my friend group im one of only like two dudes who doesn't have kids, so everyone with family stuff uses their vacation timed around school holidays. The other dude who doesn't have kids is into different kinds of stuff (goes to a lot of music festivals), we're all still good buddies, drinking together in someone's garage or hitting the shooting range, bbqs, etc... ive traveled with a lot of these folks in the past when we were all younger, and it was fun. But for me, theres something just amazing about solo travel, and doing exactly whatever you want all the time.Weird aside; vegas is like this for me too, even though theres a shitload of people there unless you go out of your way to strike up a conversation you can spend days there without speaking a single word to another human being other than "transactional" stuff (ordering drinks, playing blackjack, etc...)
The abroad course i was taking in teh summer just got canceled fuck my chungus life so much. What do I do now?
>>2868243ive been all over Japan besides Hokkaido. straight up, the only black people you will see is a few in kabukicho. and they arent even bad. few in osaka too but again theyre chill. indians? ive seen a few tour groups. stop listening to /pol/ retards that have never left their house. the worst fucking part is the chinese. they made akiba such a pain in the ass lately. or tokyo in general. they block sidewalks, spit, cluster around, argue with JP cashiers in chinese. its fucking stupid. but the new PM pissed off china and chinese tourism shifted to korea now.in short, get a fucking grip and just go. stoo reading fear mongering websites. i almost guarantee theres more indians where you live now vs Japan. and you might be glad to run into indian konbini clerks because they speak english
>>2868345i liked it. i went solo. not really into zoos and stuff like that, but the setup was really immersive and worth a trip even as someone not into that kinda thing so youll probably love it
>>2868406I totally get it, my job requires me to speak to people in person and over the phone all day, so I need my quiet time when I get back home. Personally I'm ok with either solo or traveling with friends, they both have their pros and cons. However I really do appreciate the freedom and flexibility when traveling solo, like being able to quickly go through an area that isn't as interesting as I thought it would be, or go at a slower pace when I do find something, or just being able to change or cancel plans if I feel like it.
>>2868435This is for me too. my last trip i just booked hotels by the day and did everything on the fly. i also noticed when i solotravel i tend to meet way more people. im introverted. but even in Japan i end up making friends here and there and those tend to be my most memorable moments. with friends, its more like youre in the gaijin saftey bubble
>>2868423The indians are fine in moderation, especially when they are in a konbini and you can speak english to them.>chineseDidnt japan do policies against chinese tourism or something?
>>2868120The Sumo Museum attached to the Ryogoku Kokugikan offers free admission outside of the Tokyo Grand Sumo Tournament period.
>>2868243no.
>>2868447yeah i can speak basic JP, but it was oddly comforting speaking english with someone after weeks of JP only>Didnt japan do policies against chinese tourism or something?theyre cracking down on chinese owned businesses in Japan that cater only to chinese. yes its a thing. theres taxi companies and hotels owned my mainland chinese that take chinese guests only. so Japan never even gets any benefit from it. add in the tax free shopping. youll see them with bags and bags of tax free goods. they sell them later in China for a profit. Japans been toying with the idea of removing tax free for tourists. and then we have the new PM saying taiwan exsits and china spurging out about that and telling chinese not to visit Japan. they thought they were really gonna fuck over Japan by cutting off tourism money. but again, since most accomodations were via black chinese companies, it really didnt do much.all that to say- no they didnt directly call out chinese overtourism. just some indirect policies and events that happened to help. i havent been back since that all went down though, but the numbers showed a pretty big drop
>>2867982>:(>:)
>>2868330>onionsi love onions :)
I don't like how there is still heavy reliance on physical cash. Even my third world county county back home has tap to pay everywhere.
>>2868504Even in Southeast Asia, countries on par with Thailand seem to find traveling to Japan cheaper than traveling domestically.
>>2868504>why do they use cashBecause cash is based and Japan is based and will not be cucked by card feed and the hassle of the time it takes to deal with onions boy cards
month of japan is already over... it's not fucking fair...
Everytime I look at towers, observation decks and the like for the view in Tokyo I find out about more. Which one should I check out?
Anyone got experience with renting houses/apartments in Japan? Outside of Tokyo it seems very affordable for a larger group, might look for a house to rent in Osaka
Any good hotel with balcony and a view to reco in Tokyo? I just need one night and it'll be my last one in Tokyo so I want something a bit special. I don't mind paying for luxury.
>>2868544Probably shibuya sky, as you are on the roof in the middle of the crossing.
>>2868561look for something in the minato city area(roppongi, azubudai etc), that way you get a great view of tokyo tower at night. i dont have specific reccs though
Thoughts on Fukushima Ward in Osaka?
>>2868544Just stay in a hotel room thats higher up and has a viewThis was the view from my room at some business hotel in ueno last month
>>2868597Another ueno business hotel skyline view of a snowy morning in tokyo(same hotel but not the same room, landed in tokyo, took some domestic flights carryon only for a week or so and then came back and checked back into the same hotel but different room and had them hold my big checkin roller bag while i was hitting sapporo and osaka)
>>2868522Imagine being 2 of 3 years through…
>>2868597>>2868598NTA but can you specifically request rooms higher up, does that cost extra? I've booked a hotel in Ueno as well that seems pretty tall, wondering if I can send them a message and ask for a room high up.
>>2868606ive done so at APAs. i did it thru their website so maybe that helps. this was at a jr hotel in miyazaki. same thing
>>2868544Tokyo Tower not worthSkytree ok viewShibuya sky objectively the best but be prepared to be assaulted by countless tiny bugs and see LOTS of indian people.
>>2868626Odd, i have the opposite opinion.Tokyo tower was great, things were close up and you could make up the detail even in the rain when i went.Skytree was so ridiculously overcrowded, by the time i got in my mood was worse, and i couldnt even make out details on buildings it was too high up. The glass floor was smaller and dirtier too.
Osaka is my least favorite city so far. It's the first place where I see a lot of beggars and it's the first place where I had bunch of American basketball players approach to me and try sell me stuff. It's also much more dirtier than Tokyo.
>>2868522nothing lasts forever anon, would you like to join me in Korea? I spent a month here in Japan as well but need to go there now, i could use a companion. Not sure what to expect but I've got a nice place to stay there and it seems Korea isn't all that different from Japan or what am in for?
>>2868671i was so close to stopping at korea when i was in fukuoka. i just ended not going because i dont know the language at all. but it seems cool>>2868630the 'basketball guys' are only in amerimura. only seen one beggar in a touristy area before. admittedly, my first trip i didnt care for Osaka and only liked Tokyo. second trip it was the opposite. So many less tourists and way more nightlife. people were more laidback too. Tokyo just felt like 70% chinese, and everyone else was doing their best to pretend they didnt exist. i heard more chinese than Japanese by far. ruined anything even remotely near the yamanote
>>2868674For me it's the opposite. It feels like majority of people around me are Chinese in Osaka. I don't think I've heard Japanese in my hotel at all, it's only Chinese.
Is the golden week that much of an issue if I arrive right in the beginning of May? I mean, I'll stay in Tokyo a few days anyway, especially after a longass flight. I imagine Tokyo would be "empty" with its inhabitants going in holidays elsewhere in the country, which means comfy to roam through. I only see advantages here.
>>2868403honestly id say its being unable to talk. im an introvert who likes to ramble and view the world through my own corrupted understandings, and i already spend enough time in my own head at home. i like getting into peoples mind but from overhearing them and when u only understand a couple words per conversation its hard to read ppl as less than "oh another faggot on an iphone stopping for no reason in the train station..."having to be japanese mannered. seeing groups of like 8 western friends somehow plan a trip together, but anytime ive reached out to people, offer to help get here they dont wanna theyd rather sit on their pc. rather go on tinder.ive been having a great time for 2 or 3 hours a night at the gym.sadly am a misanthrope who likes shit this country makes, but is never what has a spotlight. i.e. i like anime i guess, but most of the shit i like even the very popular stuff (like daganronpa or attack on titan) u will see fuck all of, but infinite amounts of hololive gatcha one piece with happy go lucky westerners getting rheir "OMG SO JAPAN" kick... ive been into "fashion" since a little kid and im a gatekeeper about it. so much balenciaga/lv stores with a billion chinese in them like theyre rat traps, and when its not that its poser "goth" clothes with a bunch of whites and japs too wearing shitty bootlegged metal shirts and dressing OHHHH CYBER NINJAA, meanwhile most japanese designers i admire dont have any physical location or stockists so 90% of the time when i see (very frequently) clothing its shit i loathe... not to mention im poorfag by californian standards so i dont get to spend 6000 dollars on clothing per trip, and then i feel guilt about blowing money when i get home to my druggie mentally ill synethic womb.negativity aside im having a better time now, i just feel a lot of guilt that i dont gain enjoyment out of doing normal tourist shit or even traveler shit. beer. food. sights. i dont care. i guess i like siffering though.
>>2868406>>2868707funnily enough i read ur post after i posted mine and it sounds like ur a bit of an inverse perspective of mine lol.despite my negativity im happy that ppl have fun i guess. just sad my fufilment is more limited when it comes to the world around me, also im overtly open minded so its not like i have an agenda of things i dont get and am shutting shit oit.
>>2868606No, if you request it when booking online they will tell you that they ‘can’t promise anything’ but unless you give them a reason to dislike you upon check-in when you mention it again, they’ll usually help you out. For me I’d say it works like 80% of the time internationally. Worked 100% of the time in Japan. An exception is obviously if the hotel keeps the top tier rooms on the top floors and you order the cheapest room
>>2868020there are pokemon centers everywhere so please stay away from Akiba. Thanks.
>>2868606I just saw options when selecting the rooms with views specified ("city view" or "skytree view"), not to dissimilar as booking hotels in the us or elsewhere how they sometimes advertise specific rooms while booking as corner or [whatever] view (e.g. i always get a strip view room in the flamingo when i go to vegas, they often offer me a suite upgrade [with no strip view] which i turn down).Idk how specifically requesting works, but if you find the listing itself advertising it you should be goodBtw hotel was bbh crown hill ueno premier or something like that (fancy name aside, its just a business hotel, but their 'ground floor' starts on the 20th story of some office building, i reccomend them for location and the good views, pretty no frills and quite affordable otherwise
>>2868683I read somewhere tht a lot of chinese come to osaka because its closer or something. but from my experience they mainly congregate around dotonbori. a lot of those shopping streets have drug/cosmetic stores w chinese cashiers etc. its all a tourist trap. but if you head out to the other areas it just feels like normal Japan. tennoji, umeda. i think its because Osaka doesnt really have any tourist attractions besides shopping in Dotonbori and that shinsekai place. so tourisms really congregated to one spot. on one hand its annoying if you want to go to Dotonbori. on the other, its atleast easy enough to walk away from it
>>2868685i never really noticed golden week. i think youll only notice it if you try to take shinkansen anywhere. otherwise big cities like Osaka and Tokyo go on as usual
>>2868707calm down man. im pretty similar to you. and that kinda mental framework can ruin a trip. you literally called it out when you said your corrupted worldview. i was the same. my friend bailed on me and i was just adamant on not having a good time. took a week but eventually i loosened up and had a blast. you dont gotta flip out when you see hololive or gucci traps thoughfor me, i spent 3 months traveling. didnt do a single touristy thing. just took random trainrides, went to my favorite fashion shops, talked with strangers, got lost. best time of my life. also what the fuck are you on about with no stockits. MMY, CDGC, Yohji, virdi anne. not to mention the holy grail second hand stores with grails in prestine condition. stop being such a negative bitch and go outside and stop thinking for a change. who the fuck cares if you dont enjoy normal shit. just do what you want to do. otherwise why are you even traveling
>>2868685idk compare prices during and after, idk how much pressure is on business hotels but we decided to go after it
>Picking up a rental car in Kyushu>Older lady assists me in English while two younger women stand back and observe our transaction>While the lady helping me is in the back getting my rental documents, I take out my IDP and Big American Passport and place them on the counter facing towards the staff>After a few moments one of them remarks へぇ~アメリカ人? すごいWhat did she mean by this?
ITT live and work in Japan (zogbot).I was out in degen city aka kabukicho two weeks ago and met and hooked up with an honest to god Japanese unicorn girl at a singles/meetup bar.>Works as a secretary for some small firm,>Unbelievably kinky, Into Shibari, BDSM, like obsessively, know detail on knots>Texts me/sends me pics, "telling me she wears her harness under work clothes and/or going pantyless with a vibe.>Loves cosplay and getting photographed, perfect because I have a DSLR/amateur photog.>Legit teaching/practicing Japanese with me.>Absolute whore in bed.Gave her my house key, have I hit the weeb hentau Jackpot? Don't plan on keeping this more than a sugar daddy type relationship but who knows.>>2868685I would not recommend it, its not so much places are crowded is more of the fact everything is booked up. Local Japanese families often book inns/places of interest in advanced for golden week sometimes the same place/inn year after year.I say this because I have to get hotel rooms for contractors during that time and its always a PITA.
With the zionist entity and its greatest ally having gone rogue (again), do you reckon there's a chance that the resulting fallout in terms of energy shocks and disrupted flight routes may pause the explosion in Japan tourism for the time being? I really hope so, altough we'll probably never see a Covid-like scenario again, unless another virus leaks from a Chinese lab.
>>2868807Isnt the majority of the overtourism from China and India? If so, it won't effect much at all, except you'll see less Europeans.
>>2868808There are probably fewer Indians coming to Japan than Italians. Why are you so concerned about Indians?
>>2868803She wants to suck your cock
>>2868544Different people's gonna feel differently, but I recommend Tokyo Tower and forget about Skytree altogether. Tokyo Tower: no queue needed on a weekday, you go up, get a nice view, you come down, no hassles, and about 600 yen cheaper. Skytree, you have to lock in your time in advance because if you simply rock up the tickets will likely be sold out for the next hour. Once you got tickets, you have to wait 30 minutes to get up there, and after you've had your fill you have to wait 30 min to get down. The time you have to expend is simply not worth it. Tokyo Tower is also next to Shiba Park, and you can get some nice sakura photos if you're in the right season
I've spent around 400$ in Evangelion stores this trip. My latest purchase.
>>2868762Golden Week, Obon, Silver Week, and the year-end/New Year holidays each feature a week-long consecutive holiday period, causing tourist destinations and long-distance trains to become crowded.
>>2865881I always buy PASMO at Narita Airport Station.
>>2868858I went in and bought tickets for Skytree, instantly got in, and I don't think you realize this but you don't actually have to wait 30 minutes to go down, there's an elevator that frequently takes people down as they come. Do you think the staff takes people hostage?>u musto enjoy da sukai turii, gaijin!!!
I've veen to Japan 3 timed already, and did the popular things plus some less popular. I may plan a 3 weeks trip again, but what do? Didn't visit Shikoku yet, other than the shimanami kaido, or moar like the shimanami kino. Is it interesting enough to dedicate a week? Less? More? Then I'm not sure where to go, already didKyushu, down to Yakushima, and did suite a bit in the Seto sea area (including Onomichi, Tomonoura, and I'm forgetting some, plus the Hiroshima area). Is Okinawa worth an additional flight, and thus a week?I won't go north yet, I'll keep it for an autumn trip.
>>2868880If you've already been three times I feel like you can be a big boy and actually do things on your own anon
What are some cool daytrips from Osaka aside from Kyoto/Nara/Kobe? I'm thinking of visiting Amanohashidate.
Shinjuku is overblown. So much touts don’t know what a tourist trap this place has become Red Light District my ass
>>2868862radio eva my goat. i went just to check it out and ended up dropping 500 on a fight stick and clothes>>2868899what? you dont like being surrounded by drunk austrailians and chinese massage ladies?
If i pre-book bus tickets online to fujiyoshida and back, how does it work? Do i go to a station first and get them printed, or just show a QR code on my phone to the driver?
>>2868952Did you get a QR when you bought? If so, they'll probably have a QR scanner they'll use either before you get on the bus or when you get off. If not, then you probably have to go to the in-person helpdesk in the station.
>>2868899>>2868910At the end of my trip in January I was balls-deep in Shinjuku and I agree. I didn't see any point in going to the actually lively part because it was incredibly crowded and there wasn't anything going on that made me want to deal with that versus just doing normal day tourism and spending the night chilling.
>>2868707I'm Japanese, though born and raised in Canada so I'm not 100% fluent, so I still run into communication issues whenever I visit. I can only imagine how much more frustrating and stressful it is for someone who can barely understand a single word when traveling over there. However I've never heard someone care about what they overhear other people saying! Personally, I've almost stopped caring what the locals think of me whenever I come over and visit; like I used to care a bit how unfashionable and "touristy" I looked compared to them. But once I focused on myself and how the important part is enjoying my time while on holiday, stuff like that just doesn't matter to me anymore. And you know with pop culture stuff like anime, you have to accept the fact that a lot of it will be geared towards the casual audience to maximize profits. Surprised that you haven't seen much of Attack of Titan though, I know the series is over and all but its merch is still pretty popular.Glad to hear you're having a better time now! And since I've been to Japan so many times now I'm "kinda" in the same boat as you, where I try to find things to see or do outside of the normal tourist spots. I rarely go out for drinks with friends, so it doesn't appeal to me at all when I'm in Japan solo. Food I do care about though, but I don't go crazy with the whole 7eleven or Lawson stuff. I like to try find a nearby supermarket and look around there for stuff, or on my last trip I enjoyed a couple of meals at those cheap soba shops at the station.
>>2868961do you get weird looks when youre not fluent? im half, so everyone treats me like im the golden child for being able to hold basic convos. but my full Japanese family that were born in America get treated way different
>>2868964Yeah, I've definitely confused a few people. There were several occasions where I'm sure they thought I was Japanese or at least fluent at first, but then get totally thrown off when I don't hear or understand something they say. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if there were some instances they thought the issue was with me being "slow" or "socially awkward"
Two more months... I just want to visit Japan again bros
>>2868862>just a lunch bag with the words eva on itlike that shitty jersey at Puma with the sonic logo
>>2868805> Gave her my house key, have I hit the weeb hentau Jackpot? Don't plan on keeping this more than a sugar daddy type relationship but who knows.Yeah, that was a great idea, retard. When things eventually go south and you ask for your key back or try to break things off, you’ll probably end up like ol’ Air Force kun out in Tachikawa who got a knife in his neck when he tried to end it with his BPD frying pan-face girlfriend.
>>2868808Those might be affected by more expensive plane tickets, too (China less so due to short distance) as well as a general economic downturn. Also, just my general feeling, East Asian tourist, while making up the biggest proportion, don't contribute to the perceived level of overtourism as much because they blend in better with the general population (visually speaking).
>>2869046not in my experience. chinese stand out like motherfuckers. gucci brand logos everywhere, big groups blocking off streets and aisles, loud as fuc kbut then again, im guessing a lot of tourists couldnt tell the difference between chinese and Japanese. but sentiment among Japanese is that chinas overdoing it
How’s the locker situation around Busta Shinjuku? Are they usually full like some online reviews say?I need to catch a bus to Mt. Fuji at 8 AM and want to drop my luggage off before that, but most luggage storage services seem to open only after 9 or 10 AM. My other option looks like Sagawa Cloak & Delivery, but if lockers are a cheaper alternative, that’d be better. Any experience?
>>2869062lockers across the road inside Shinjuku Station are a safe bet

>>2868961yeah its all good, as for overhearing ppl its not because i always think theyre saying bad shit about me (or thinking theyll all glorifying me and i want to secretly know lol) its more just a huge chunk of the world around me is cut out. and im more left with the face value lifeless bodies floating around me in a crowded train station...oh thats the thing i didnt mention too much on, but i really hate the train, and yes it works very very well, im just not into using the phone. and it feels a bit tedious... if i was japanese id for sure be huge into car culture shit.also with the lack of understanding verbal shit, god damn r ppl sick here. i know its got a brutal go to work culture but im shocked everybody didnt die during covid or something... guess it was a hoax...>>2868910>radio evayeah radio eva is pretty cool i like it in concept, got something for the gym. check out "nubian" which is also in shibuya parco, its just an expensive designer store buttt they stocked some of the radio eva shit and its like 40% off now... got a rei shirt...
>>2869217>>2868961also>cheap soba shops at the stationsthis is agree with, even though i dont like food. it feels good as fuck to be able to buy food that isnt cisco slop for 4 times the minimum wage daily... also for whatever reason japan does seemingly have too much of shit i like (curry, burger, ramen, doughtnut, choclolate and sweets, yakiniku seems cool but im hesitant to spend more money on food, ill try it before i leave hopefully...) my only problem is i have a little kid pallette and im too afraid to try and ask for something without vegetables, so it limits it a bit...do u live in japan fulltime now? how do u like day to day life? i think japan is more fun when u live locally rather than do tourist stuff, which is sort of the opposite in lots of the us to a degree.
>>2868763sorry to hear about ur friend>mmyhis shoes r cool and id possibly get one some day, but i could just order it at home>cdgnot into it>yohji.saw really cool yohji boots, not in my budget :(>virdi annei got this cardigan the first time i went, really like it. very cute very cool... got it in hokkaido and beyond my usual negativity? hokkaido genuinely kind of fucking suxxx...on a positive its nice being able to see brands in person so i can see what quality is where and if i like materials and such, like everything ive seen from julius ive kind of really not liked the weight and look of in person, which isnt a big deal since i was never huge on that specific type of black clothing, but its good to know... (did try on there really cool gloves by them, sadly the leather was a bit more thin than im into)
Anyone there wanna this out and tell us how it tastes?
>>2869217Outside of Tokyo and Osaka, few people commute by train; the majority drive to work within 30 minutes, making commuting conditions not much different from those in the United States.
Why don't Japanese learn English anyway, or at the very least, learn it better? If people from India can do it then surely Japanese can too.
>>2869186I took a green car for the first time last month (round trip from ueno to shiroshizao for fox village) honestly i dont feel like it's really "worth it", its not insanely expensive or anything, but the relative comfort compared to "coach" or whatever considering the length of trips just doesn't seem to be noticableIt's like flying business or first class for a short haul domestic; do it if you want i guess, but i don't think it's as impactful as coach vs premium/business/etc...+ on a long haul direct(12h+) where id say it is worth splashing out to save the day of back pain and recovery youd have if you fly economyFrom what i recall of standard shinkansen seats from my previous previous trip (jrpass, rode it a ton, this time i just did 3 domestic flights between tokyo, sapporo, osaka and back to tokyo, and only one shinkansen daytrip), those seats were already like at or above premium economy tier, on top of being able to get up and walk around if you want, so id imagine green and gran arent really even justifiable for the longest shinkansen train trips since standard is already so comfortable
>>2869245They're better at English than you'd expect from all the memes online but unless you're in a hospitality setting most people aren't confident enough to use it.It's literally the same thing I felt there in reverse where I'd studied a bunch of phrases and kanji but never felt confident to actually say anything in Japanese
>>2869254>>2869186>>2869192Just know your environment. I went in January after Newyears so I didn't bother with reserved seats at all even on the Shinkansen from Tokyo because there were open seats everywhere.I don't think reserved seats are worth it in off-peak or low volume times
>>2869279Yeah the ride to zao (last month) i was literally the only person in the green car, ride back think there were maybe 4-5 others in the car with meThat said i always like to reserve seats if possible, taking the train from cts to sapporo with everyone standing with their luggage was horrible, but the line for seat reservations was insane at the airport, so i just suica'd nonreserved or something
>>2869183>as much as I love Japanese food, it seemed to lack variety (or maybe I didn't know where to look for what)My solutions to that were>chinese and indian restaurants are as high quality as japanese ones>cooking yourself or getting grocery store meal kits/currypanI made a handful of non-Japanese meals like mac'n cheese using Japanese groceries and it was fun.
>>2869245Why? You probably had to take a semester or whatever of french or spanish in hs, then never used it for years and forgot 99% of it. What would you say if some beaner or frog walked up to you in US of A and got all pissy that you didnt speak their language?
>>2869217>>2869219Ah, I get you. I definitely take for granted the value of being able to understand the people around you. Personally, I do think you can easily pick up social cues even with a language barrier, though obviously there would be limitations and misunderstandings in that situation.I love the train system in Japan, especially when I compare it to the one I have to use daily in Toronto, but I definitely try to plan my day to avoid using it during rush hour whenever possible. It's far too busy and can get overstimulating when trying to navigate the stations. And no, I don't live in Japan and never have. I do have family and some friends over there though, and I've been visiting annually after the pandemic (and visited numerous times prior to that). I think part of the reason why I enjoy doing the more "mundane" things is because I've been to Japan so many times and done a lot of touristy stuff already. I'll definitely try to go to tourist spots and try out foods that are trending, but I also enjoy exploring a supermarket or mall or just eating at family restaurant.Funny you mentioned having a kid palate cause I can be a fairly pick eater too! I don't know why, but I just don't like condiments so I usually eat burgers practically plain, with just cheese and a little bit of ketchup or some other sauce. It does mean my burger options in Japan become a little more limited as a result, but it is still possible to find burgers that I can enjoy.
>>2869219for me, the mmy shoes are cool and all but the clothes are the best. i got some upcycled shirts and sweatshirts that i love. one day I'll get mmy denimalso same cdgs not my jam. if i get yohji stuff its all ground y since yohjis too primo for me. got the ground y jjk and csm collabs plus just their normal stuffs good. only way i can afford yohji lmaomost of the other stuff i have is klassica, daub, READYMADEagreed yeah being able to try on in persons so much better. julius i always liked in pictures but in person felt too off for me. most of my stuffs oversizedif youre really into fashion youd love osaka. i know some good local shops there that have osaka based designers among other things. nubians there too. also beams is a decent shop. not super brandname but the fits are nice and its cheaperi heard hokkaidos basically like the midwest us. i probably wouldnt go outside of winter. youd probably need a car to go anywhere there> i think japan is more fun when u live locallynta but last year i stayed for 3 months in Tokyo and Osaka and basically just lived like a local. i lived off of the cheap soba shops and bentos and just walked around everywhere and it was the happiest id ever been. hoping to move there soon
>>2868976that sounds like what happens to my Dad. i heard its way better now than in the past when you were basically viewed as a traitor (see 2 generations ago)all my family in Japan barely speak english so ive had to study a lot lately since i feel bad speaking such bad Japanese>>2869288>you can easily pick up social cues even with a language barrierthis one was huge for me. the biggest difference in me studying solo vs me talking in person was just all the social cues and various ways to communicate. you can fill the gaps with hand gestures, facial expressions etcalso yeah for me atleast i love the train system. im in a city south of toronto in the us where trains basically mean homeless people shelter. buses are 45 mins late. its pretty bad. so being able to go anywhere and on time is a dream
>>2869298Nta but how good are "asians" at telling each other apart at a glance? Like can you tell a japanese or korean or chinese apart at a look without hearing a single word out of their mouths? Genuinely curious.I can't at all, but as soon as they speak, i know (fluent in chinese for work reasons, know a bit of japanese from anime and tourism [mostly simple transactional terms and social cues], dont know any words but can easily tell korean from assorted SEAspeaks). To be fair i can't tell my fellow whiteman apart until he opens his mouth either, give me a burger, a bing, an aussie, a frog, a kraut, a slav etc... 95% of the time precluding extremely identifiable phenotypes or context clues they all look like a fellow 'murricans to me.
>>2869407yeah. its kinda instinct? but if i had to break it down, chinese have flat wide noses and tend to be kinda wider in general. i dunno its hard to explain. usually a dead giveaway is just how they dress too. chinese tend to wear brand name goods and sports wear and the guys have sporty haircuts. koreans kinda have chinese features but are lighter and more slim. and dress more vogue. when i went to fukuoka all the koreans stood out instantly. also my Grandma used to say they smell like kimchi kek
>>2869407>japanese or korean or chinesemakeup, clothing preferences, and demeanor all vividly reflect the differences between cultures.
>>2869427I notice lower class Chinese are shorter and definitely have the more gaudy dress style and alwaysin huge groups. Rich Chinese or I guess not low class tend to be younger quiet couples that are petty low key baring maybe an expensive watch. I can't tell with younger generation especially since they have alot of makeup and emulate japanese girls but definitely have flatter features and their eyes are not as pronounced as Japanese are.
Bros I need some help with ideas for planning. Our group is staying a week in Tokyo and then on to Osaka where we'll stay for 4 nights, split between the city and Kyoto. After that we're going to hit an Onsen town for 2 nights, where some members of our groups will be leaving us early. After that we got about 6 more nights to fill out. We were thinking of heading back to Osaka, since 4 nights will not be enough to see everything we want from Osaka, Kyoto and surrounding area. Or should we head elsewhere in the region, that can serve as a good base for daytrips? We're not married to going to Osaka, but we're a larger group and figured its a good town to head out from, or just if people want to chill and club all night instead.
>>2869438really depends on what you want to do. Hiroshimas nice as a base, but its much more quiet and not a lot of nightlife. more if you want to go to Onomichi, Miyajima, etc.if you want a change of pace but still want night life then Fukuokas good. its got a distinct kyushu feel to it but its still right on the shinkansen line. foods really good too.im partial to osaka because i love it there but you could also always just decide on the fly if you eant to go somewhere else>>2869437good point, yeah. most of the chinese you see in major groups/being rude and gaudy are the nouveau rich. the aunts in grocery stores are hell and the most anti Japanese thing ive witnessed. but ive met some younger couples that were pretty chill. played with one dude in the arcade for a couple hours. kinda weird how my generations chinese Japanese korean look so similar due to makeup and beauty stuff. theres kpop stars advertising Japanese makeup brands and everyone has perms. but some bro i met drinking one night told me if you want a Japanese girl just say youre in a kpop band
>boners in JapanDoes anyone else have an increased amount of boners here?Does traveling to other places do this to you too?
>>2869440Not boners perse but i did wank quite hard sometimes. I think for me it was the isolation and privacy. Knowing in this hotel room thousands of kilometers away, next to a mandrake store, i am alone.
>>2869245They have bad way of teaching it imo. I used tutor on my off time and its and night and day difference. And it reinforces the apathy they have. To be fair the US has so many military bases here we could do a much better job of integrating but thats another issue all together.>>286902QRD (I dont interact with the base nogs even though I work for em)What happened to this guy? I've had some bad experiences with Japanese girls. Either hard rejections or unbelievablely clingly and insecure (getting called 24/7 at work, always afraid of getting cheated etc) but also im attracted to the Jirai-Kei/alt types with all that baggage.I have never felt my life was at risk with any local here, other than the the fact Japanese girls are awful at understanding safe sex/sti screenings. The worst I've gotten was death threats but from a clearly not emotionally sound person. Being 6'10" and relatively /fit/ its really hard to be intimidated by any Japanese girl lol.I know people are here in Japan to get laid and for coomer reasons, definitely learn Japanese, don't be fat (at all) and don't be afraid if having a genuine interest in the subcultures here be fashion or w.e. I mean I assume most are interested is girls that cosplay or into J-fashion right?
>>2869439Yeah thats kind of why I was looking at Osaka too. Our group has quite a lot of interest, bunch of weebs, some people more interested in partying, some people less interested in partying, some history nerds. I personally want to see Hiroshima for the history stuff but not sure if everyone else wants.I kinda wish we did like 6-7 nights in Osaka and then headed to the Onsen town, but since some people are leaving us we had to slot the Onsen in at the end of their trip.
>>2869440I'm an absolute gooner for shorter girly skirts and Japan has a load of that fashion, which seems to have died out entirely in the west, much to my dismay. So yeah, lots of boners.
>>2869443yeah, Osaka should be perfect then. Denden town for the weebs. Amerimura. Dotonbori. Uemda. whatever that castles called. youre close to Nara and Kobe tootechnically you could daytrip to Hiroshima but youd be on the train for a while that day. might be a harder sell for a large group. but Hiroshimas great to get away from tourists for a while and relax. Atomic dome place really is life changing seeng it in person
>>2869294i did see some mmy denim short/joggers i thought were pretty cool>READYMADE some hoodie i really liked but wont get, also i didnt know the other brand the guys behind saint mx6? but this trip i cant stop fucking seeing it everwhere... really like the colors and materials but its a lot of bootleg style prints im not super into sadly and expensive as fuck... kind of vetements balenciaga type pricing seemingly which aldo, i did see these 3000 dollar bulky balenciaga boots which i admittedly very mich liked...>oversizedyeah same for the most part. honestly since childhood i would buy xl volcom fullzips and stuff so i was always ahead on that but i think the akatsuki robe from naruto altered me when i was like 6...>osakai only have been for a week when i went with my mom and honestly didnt get to do much or buy anything, im just in tokyo for this month and its over in a week so, next time i go id love to hit up more places.>hokkaidoi did go in winter and taking the train up the middle of it was very pretty, i was sick as shit and remember sleeping through the night on the way back and there being reindeer on the track or something. kept having to wake up to not miss my stop.>>2869288oh i got u, im an annual goer myself i guess? the stay is just so fucking cheap to the point where if i were to not shop and just live truly like i was at home im generating income back home with the family lol.
Should I book year in advance next trip to Japan? I already want back bros.
>>2869457Why wait an entire year? Just go back in October. Spring and autumn every year is the way to go
>>2869459Wageslaving.
>>2869457honest to god i dont believe in big discount for booking so much ahead, maybe im doing it wrong but unless im booking 1 week before i want to go, ive had prices places be the same 6 months or 2 weeks before going...
>>2869459nta but im dead broke. but taking a 6 month contract and then going in oct. if i had it my way id just keep doing short contracts and visiting unless i got a job that allowed international work>>2869461same, i havent noticed a difference. this year im flying with points tho so i wonder if it matters or not
Japan Airlines was about 1400 euro when booking 1-2 months in advance. A year in advance if is 800 euro.
>>2869080>>2869088>>286899967 days for me brosits gonna be good I can feel it
just came back and want to go again. fuck it maybe I should go for 1 year with a language school visa
How many people here will get fuck over if China decides to invade Taiwan in the span of now to next year?
>>2869491If you're not American, you can work part-time on a working holiday visa and stay for at least one year.
>>2869502if you're under 30wish i knew about this before
>>2869462all the kayak momondo shit too is somehow more expensive than when i just hit up google flights too... i am out of the loop on travel sites if somebody wants to hook me up...>>286948767 :3
>>2869439>>2869437>>2869428>>2869427Very interesting! I think this is a pretty fascinating topic, i know what you guys mean about the very obvious tour groups, or the more obnoxious smaller groups (although id say those are more often immediately identifiable because of behaviour which often involves speaking loudly) i think i know what you mean about the solo or classier travelers, ive had a few occasions where a couple of "asian" looking folks like a couple was asking me if i could take a picture of them at some shrine, or a woman and her daughter wanting to squeeze past me to the front of that odaiba monorail (little girl wanted to look out the big front window) and i reply to them in japanese politely and help em out and then hear them speaking chinese later on. Also had a situation where i started chatting with this girl at some cafe, and few minutes later i comment that her english is really good, only to find out she was some korean exchange student when i thought she was japanese the whole time priorAlso had one where a couple wanted to swap reserved seats on a train with me because they didnt manage to get seats next to each other and we were all in the same car, they approached me in broken english and since it was a train to the airport i just assumed they were chinese, and obliged them (replying in chinese), only to later hear them speaking to each other in japaneseReally the whole western globohomo thing has probably ruined my ability to detect such subtle physical features at a glance, like i said, i can't really tell the nationality of whites apart most of the time until they open their mouths and i can hear language or accent.
>>2869502>you can work part-time on a working holiday visa and stay for at least one year. You dont even have to work. It’s just an added option you have if you need money while you’re there. A ton of people just vacation 24/7 for 1-2 years on that visa
>>2869461Imo the great thing about booking as far in advance as possible isnt discounts, but more options; specifically for hotels, and if you want to be staying for longer periods in very specific areas, the sooner you book the more options you have to choose from
>>2869557normally i just book hotels the night before. but as it happens, one weekend last spring in tokyo literally every hotel on booking was reserved. i even talked to the front desk and asked if they had anything but nope. they were as confused as i was. so i just moved to Osakaim not a huge fan of the idea of being stuck to one place but it looks like for monthly mansions in particular you gotta book a few months out
>>2869530this is thru my credit card. like just last october JAL said theyre accepting my credit cards points. normally id just use points to retroactivly 1:1 pay off the flight. but now im learning about the whole mileage reward flight thing. and apparently i can go roundtrip from the US premium economy for 'free' just using my miles. its just confusing because its a whole separate system to book this way and theres limited seats and i dont know how to do connecting flights with it
>>2869457Yo drop your itinerary. Going in May and totally winging it ATM.Looking for less crowded accommodations in Tokyo rn, any recs?
>>2869569nta but onchanomizus nice. higashi shinjuku too. i stayed in a place that was basically residential there, not a tourist in sightthats basically how i travel. booked all my hotels the day of,.or night before. sometimes id look up events happening that week. but mainly id just ride random trains or whatever and go where i felt like going. walking the yamanote is on my list for next trip
>>2869572This guy fucking gets it. Thank you. Can you drop any more for Osaka and Kyoto? I got ~10 days total with a few things written down (like the massive Don Quijote and upside down monorails) but other than that open book
>>2869573in Osaka i stayed in shinsaibashi. crowded area but in a good way imo. its more lively and laidback than what youd get in tokyo with massive tour groups. and a few streets over its quieti like it there cuz pretty much everythings walkable. dotonbori, that big donki, nipponbashi. amerimura cool, especially on sundays. normally i dont really care about temples but shitennoji was really nice and honestly the whole tennouji area. its full of temples and hidden gems everywhere. i like walking the side streets there at night because its just locals. youll see those old school snack bars and weird showa era stuff. the covered shopping streets are kinda tourist traps these days but at night theyre cool as fuck to walk around. completely emptyi honestly dont know too much about kyoto since i usually just stop there for a day. its pretty touristy in a lot of areas. but sitting along the kamo river at night with all the shops bustling behind you is peak.i did the fushimi inari climb for the first time last year too at night. its way too crowded at the start. but by the time you climb about halfway up theres barely any people and it was worth it
Should I make base in Kyoto or Osaka?Im planning to do day trips to Nara, Himeji and Kobe so either is fine but i havent really decided.
>>2869573>>2869575Yeah, I'd also recommend Shinsaibashi. I stayed at the Shinsaibashi Arty Inn a couple of years ago and thought the location was great: walking distance from Dotonbori and also from the station if we needed to travel somewhere further. And like the other said, the area can be a tad crowded but not overly so. That hotel in particular also had a public bath/sauna, which I definitely took advantage of.I also stayed near Umeda station. Yes the area is busy, but the cheaper hotels are usually a 5-10 mins walk away from the station and are actually in pretty quiet areas. The Umeda area has plenty of places to go shopping and eating, and also a convenient transportation hub
>>2869604When I was looking, Kyoto was more expensive and had less connections to other places. But check google maps for your specific routes. I picked an AirBnB just a few mins from Fukushima station, which takes me to Osaka Station in 10-15 min walking + train, perfect for us who want to go to a lot of places, and also just chill in Osaka.
>>2869537>>Also had one where a couple wanted to swap reserved seats on a train with me because they didnt manage to get seats next to each other and we were all in the same car, they approached me in broken english and since it was a train to the airport i just assumed they were chinese, and obliged them (replying in chinese), only to later hear them speaking to each other in japaneseOn the other hand, I was on the shinkansen and offered to swap seats so a japanese couple could sit together. They were way too thankful for such a mundane thing, which made me think it's not something people ever do in Japan
>>2869606yeah good point. umedas right where the shinkansen is if youre planning on leaving the city a lot. definitely has more of a business, white collar vibe there but also way less tourists. seems like tourists mainly just congregate in dotonbori on the main street. so really just depends if you want walkable nightlife or are fine taking the midosuji to shinsaibashi (its quick tho)>>2869604really up to you. but know that Kyoto tends to close early so theres not much nightlife. I dont know much about Kyoto station besides going to Nara, so id check like the other anon said. Shin Osaka stations connections are pretty robust
>>2869442> What happened to this guy?Guy was some Air Force dog handler officer. Was married with kids, but his family was back in the states. Lived off base in Tachikawa and had a local girlfriend. She was at his house and he tried to break it off with her. While he wasn’t looking, she plunged a knife into his neck and killed him. Now, when his kids ask what happened to their father, the mother will tell them he was shanked by some frying pan-faced whore he was cheating on her with in Japan.
>>2869549Japan's currency is at a historic low right now, so even part-time work doesn't pay much.Farmers are bringing in workers from developing countries as "trainees" to address labor shortages, but they have a mandatory employment period of several years. This means they must keep hiring and paying these workers even during the off-season. however, what farmers really want are workers who only come during the busy season, so working holiday visa holders are welcomed by farms. The advantage of farm work is that housing is provided by the farm at very low cost or even free. Meals are also provided by the farm, making them extremely affordable.
>>2869638What's this? A parking for ants?
>>2869638parking in reverse took me forever. theres so many tight angles. i never did it at home besides for my driver idi would park far from my hotel just to find a times parking spot that wasnt too crowded god forbid. atleast the rental cars come with backup cameras that kinda help but still
i want to go to shikoku but fuck there's like 2-3 interesting things to do per prefecture and that's it. is it even worth the time/effort? i feel like i would go to place (A), do/see (thing), then head to the izakaya/bar and be in bed by 12 so i can wake up on time to drive to place (B) and repeat. even the "big" cities there don't seem big enough to warrant anything longer than a single day and night. i kind of hate doing these multi-leg trips should i go to Fukuoka instead? or go viist Osaka again? probably gonna be swamped with tourists this month because of the cherry blossoms though. i just wanna get out and about for a few days, i'm bored
>>2869604i stayed in both, imo i'd do that again. but if you have to choose a home base i'd say osaka. its closer to the other places you listed. a little less busy. closer to USJ if you want to go there. a bit cheaper. and it has more things to do at night(so you can do kyoto day trip and come back and places are still open)
>>2869231Dios mio!
>>2869643thats kinda how i talked myself out of going to Nagoya and Kobe. oh it seems cool but do i really want to deal with having to go to bed early to deal with checkout early etc. i think it really depends. you only know what you know. thats the fun of travel. some of my random short stops ended up being really memorable like Hiroshima and Kagoshima. thats why i like booking on the fly because some days i really want to do stuff like that and even end up extending my stay.osaka wasnt too bad for me last sakura season. tokyo was too much. im guessing fukuokas gonna be swamped with koreans. but fukuokas also not my kinda place so take that as you will
>>2869231posting this in Italy would get you 5 years in jail
>>2869604Osaka is closer to Kobe and Himeji plus it actually has nightlife, Kyoto barely has any nightlife and the city overall dies down after dark from what I can tell in the few times I've been there, but I personally like Kyoto more as a city since it has more history behind it and has a smaller city feel (compared to where I'm from at least). Osaka's a bit cheaper too for lodging.
>>2869138>I'll be in Japan next year. Can't wait to visit ShikkokuThat's a bit of a wait. I'm heading to Shikoku myself this year, will be my first time there.>>2869180>3 yearsDamn, stay strong.

>>2869675how is driving in Japan in general? Im thinking of renting a car for a day during my upcoming trip but I never drove left hand before and those narrow mountain roads look kinda scary.
>>2869675Sounds like you need anger management.
>>2869457Have you seen the price of oil lately? And it won't get any better. At least book the flight before they go +30%.
>>2869676Depends on your status (visitor, Zogbot, Visa/PR), location and the type of car.Driving left is easy, idk what to say other than don't be a retard. You need an international drivers license to rent a car.Tokyo is a nightmare to drive though but more because the roads are spaghetti and its so easy to miss exits/turns and end up going miles out of the way. Also owning a car in Tokyo is a massive PITA and they do everything in their power to fuck car owners. Street parking is basically non-existent and can be expensive as fuck.Nearly all the major highways are toll roads and they absolutely kike you on tolls since its ran by a private monopoly that was supposed to make the roads free since they were paid off long ago. Its also very unforgiving on missing exits unlike the states and you still pay.Rural roads are okay, but they can be narrow, the mountain roads can be very scary and people do LARP initial D on them all the time.In Japan people either follow the rules of the road to the letter/drive the speed limit or don't give a fuck whatsoever and full send it. There is no middle ground. The worst driving is easily in Okinawa, you are contending with drunk Marines, tourists, Ojis and locals who absolutely dgaf about traffic rules. Not to mentioned there are literal 18yrd privates there that have never driven in America now driving left hand-side in a completely different country. Plus there are constant convoys of APCs, Military Trucks, Tanks you name all driven by the above. Also the roads are shit and mostly unpaved in parts. 2nd contenders would be Hiroshima and Nagoya.Be advised the DUI BAC is 0.03 and over (which is one beer). .05 is a full on jail time felony. Not only that passengers can be charged as well and the providers of alcohol. Don't fuck around with those laws.
>>2869723thanks anon, this was informative
>>2869676NTA but my experience:highway driving is great; the roads are really well maintained and there are tons of cutaways where you can pull over if anything happens. people drive very predictably on the highways, which is a good thing. Highway rest stops are god tier. ETC is a must as lots of tollways are phasing out cash tollbooths and/or adding ETC-only exits, you get discounted tolls on weekends with an ETC card though so that's a nice plus. not very scenic, your drive is going to be mostly tunnels and noise barriers. also when it snows they close the on ramps and inspect every car for winter tires, or at least they do that in my area. 国道s and freeways are fine 95% of the time. A lot of them are only one or two lanes though so they're susceptible to traffic jams, and there are piss bottles EVERYWHERE along the side of the road (no joke). the only issue you're liable to encounter here is if there's ever a car accident or something inside of a tunnel, unless there's an exit nearby you'll be hanging around for a while. that said these are much more scenic than highways since they pass closer to, and often through towns and cities. I love driving on them because I can pull off into a quaint little town I've never been to before at any time.mountain/dam/logging roads are terrifying. barely wide enough for one kei car, no guardrails, sheer drops, very poor maintenance, fallen logs, fallen boulders, collapsed infrastructure, wild animals, and if another car is coming towards you, one of you is going to be reversing 100m+ to the last cutaway. i've encountered all of these situations multiple times. google maps loves to route you through these. city driving sucks shit same as anywhere else in the world. suburb and inaka driving is chill, but sometimes people are too polite or passive and will yield right of way when they shouldn't, which annoys me. the most dangerous place to be in is the parking lot of a big local grocery store on a Sunday afternoon.
>>2869747>that said these are much more scenic than highways since they pass closer to, and often through towns and cities. I love driving on them because I can pull off into a quaint little town I've never been to before at any time.thanks bro this is pretty much the experience I've been hoping to get, driving by a coastline and popping by some random small towns on the way with not much traffic to stress me out loland those mountain roads from your description seem even worse than what I imagined, definitely gonna be avoiding those
2300 bux for 4 nights at Mimaru??I've heard hotels are better because of luggage service and some other things, but that's a lot of money. I must be late. Are AirBnB's really that bad? Looking for stays in Ueno or Asakusa
>>2869747>>2869723Nta but how you deal with parking in cities? I want to do the whole hokkaido weeklong roadtrip, heck almost tried to do it last month, but then looking the logistics of how to get into and out of sapporo if staying at nobiretsu on top of the zero tolerance "if you had a beer on this calendar date no driving" just ended up saying fuck it and just stayed in sapporo the whole time.I do wanna do the roadtrip maybe 2-3 years from now, land in hakodate, drive to noburits, go to sapporo etc... around all hokkaido, but how/where do you even park if you're trying to go into a city but not necessarily staying there (hotel w/parking)?Like i was trying to find border subway stations to park at and take the train in but ultimately decided that was too much commute overheadHonestly i fucking hate driving or parking in cities where i live too; so i just don't go into the city unless i gun to my head need to
>>2869753in cities your best bet is finding a hotel with parking. hotel parking isn't necessarily limited to 5* joints either, i've seen business hotels, APA and such, that offer it as a service. if you're just stopping through and not staying overnight, or your hotel doesn't have parking, AFAIK there's nothing you can really do besides look for a paid parking lot with a good capped overnight ratein smaller towns or outside of city centers, roadside stations (道の駅) offer free 24 hour parking. highway rest stops are also free overnight. There's some Japanese apps that list all of these in more detail I think but I can't recall the name off the top of my head
>>2869749parroting what the other anon said, yeah dont trust google maps it took be on a barely one lane road up the mountains. and i was in a honda fit too but it was still barely enough for my car. i was so lucky i didnt see any other cars. honestly though it was beautiful and i dont regret it.but yeah use the car gps, not google>driving by a coastline and popping by some random small towns on the way with not much trafficthis is what i did in miyazaki. drove north to the mountains without a map and just explored. never had a hybrid in my life before but damn its like unlimited mileage and the rental cars dont give a fuck how much miles you put on so i had a field day. random shrines, villages, it was heaven.south was all coastline like roads right on the ocean. i found so many cool beaches and towns.then i ended up driving all the way to kumamoto and returned the car there. highways in Japan are a dream. no one drives slow in the fast lane. people drive fast as fuck above the speed limit in general.>parkingthis was the hardest for me. this was my first time driving RHD. miyazakis small but still a city so it was trial by fire. bumped my mirror on a tiny side street like 15 mins in (you have to file a police report for literally anything). it sucked. but once i hit the mountains, RHD was natural and the city wasnt bad.but parking in Japan means you have to back into spaces. that was a learning process too. citys generally have 24 hour lots everywhere. but theyre packed and reversing in was a pain. i ended up parking like a 15 min walk from my hotel so i could use a half empty lot (the police laughed at me kek). some hotels do have parking though.Miyazaki is very car centric since theres like no trains. but i dont ever see myself driving in Tokyo or something fuck that.
>>2869754Thanks for the info, yeah... guess the idea of staying at some onsen and going into the city is a bit of a bust the (on account of parking and the drunk driving bs, like if im going to the city for the evening i probably want to have dinner and drinks there) i can just adjust plans i guess; hotel in the cities for a night or 2 rather than trying to commute in and out from a nearby onsen
>>2869764sounds like a nice experience you had, I plan to be staying in Atami for few days and was thinking of exploring the Izu peninsula for a day or two, I think I will probably just look up everything beforehand and note places that will look convenient to park, I'm fine with walking the extra mile on foot if that means not getting stressed parking in a tight spot.and thanks for the tip on google maps because that's what I would likely default to otherwise
>>2869752I'm in an airbnb at the moment and I'm having no issues at all
>>2869753Hokkaido is one of the few exceptions because the entire region was city/rual planned by an American in the early 1900's. As in plenty of street parking, weirdly American like roads even farms.>>2869747some rest stops have sentos in them which is really nice.If you are staying long term you have to register your car.White plates-standard full sized car but also for trucks and everything else in-between. In most cities you need to have proof of parking."Y/ABCD" Plates- Theses are reserved for POV Zogbot, Marines, remember/families of the US armed forces and other glowies. They have a much lower road-tax/shaken but are under DoD jurisdiction. There are also the white GSA plates you normally see on actual military trucks, HMMVs, and tanks. Anytime you see any roman letter plate expect your typical amerifart driver. In citis you don't have to register an associated parking space for them.Yellow Plates- small/fuel efficient cars like Kei, super easy to register (you can do it at any city hall) and proof of parking is not required.
>>2869675>Fat american comes driving down the road while im on my bike>his weighs so much that his rented Kei car is struggling driving him up the mountain road>my honda super cub easily overtakes him>He honks angrily at me, shaking his fist out the window>Is it rude in American culture for a bike to pass a car? >He stops as the local shrine i was heading to >bow and apologize for breaking his cultural expectations, and explain to him that in Japan it is normal for bikes to pass cars>he stammers something in American and keeps repeating the words "ok" over and over. I have no idea what he's saying but im sure he's accepting my explanation graciously>smile politely and go on my way>I hate these fucking Gaijin so much
>>2865875Osaka (Kansai) is home to Yoshimoto and Shochiku's Shin Kigeki and the Takarazuka Revue, with performances held nearly year-round without breaks. Kabuki, rakugo, manzai, kōdan, and nagauta are performed by different schools than in Tokyo, each operating independently. Jōruri, Noh, and Gidayū-bushi also have regular venues in Kansai. For Japanese travelers visiting Osaka, experiencing these Kansai-developed vaudeville and traditional performing arts is part of the fun. It's a world likely inaccessible to those who don't understand Japanese.
>>2869827>Projecting this hard.I'll admit I chuckled. What I meant to say apologizing for a minor road incident in America is unheard of.I would never be caught dead in Kei car. Subaru WRX Master race そですね。Granted they serve their purpose but I dont trust the transmissions on the cars for anything but local 'round the block shit.I will say driving as a gaijin will get you stares and sometimes confusion. And yes definitely some asshurt from younger men. But I blame that on the fact Japanese girls are vapid/shallow as fuck and will not date most guys w/o a car.
>>2869855people just looked at me like normal when i was driving. what kinda complex do you have?>Subaru WRX>get 'cut off'ah, i seebut seriously the general consensus is gaijin get into a lot of car accidents and people are pissed so theyre looking to make it harder to rent cars ie taking a driving test or something and not just an international permit. theyre probably looking at you like a ticking time bomb kekalso did you have to go to a special place to rent a wrx?
I bought it, but definitely out in the countryside it's quite uncommon for foreigners to drive. Not an issue or anything just observation.>>2869862>consensus is gaijin get into a lot of car accidents and people are pissed so theyre looking to make it harder to rent cars.Thats a new one, but it wouldn't affect occupier.. err "Y" plates and as it stands now you are given 1 year upon entry to get a JP driver's license with or without a international divers permit.I suspect this becuase of all the jeets driving their kei cars like the indy 500.
>be me>be foreigner>go to a super sento i occasionally drive by but never thought to stop at>it's huge and there are at least 40 other dudes in the bathing area>have fun trying out the various baths >time for the final boss>rehydrate and enter the high temp sauna>sit for 15 or 16 minutes>get out, rinse off and head to the cold pool>wade in up to my thighs>fuck this shit is cold>can see the guys around me grinning, looking at me out of the side of their eyes waiting to see if i'll chicken out>remember the technique that the yakuza-looking man at the tattoo friendly onsen in Osaka taught me>submerge fully>stay for an additional two minutesThat's how you earn the Japanese's respect.
>>2869863>consensus is gaijin get into a lot of car accidents and people are pissed so theyre looking to make it harder to rent cars. They also made the actual test you have to take to get a Japanese license much harder last year. When I took it, the paper test was I think only 15 questions that were like, "what do you do if you see a stop sign? A) stop, B) speed up" levels of difficulty, and you could get up to 3 wrong and still pass. Now it's I believe 50 questions and you have to get above 90%. According to Google, written test pass rates went from 92.5% to 42.8% and practical test pass rates went from 30.4% to 13.1%. Japanese people I've spoken to about it said it was mainly because of Chinese people.
>>2869917I wish they would do that here in Canada. I have to share the road with some absolute fucking retards.
>>2869929Saar that was a paki
>>2869917So what you're saying is they actually had retarded standards and criteria before and have finally updated them to be more appropriate for the damage you can inflict while driving a car.about time
>>2869929>>2869917The Japanese drivers test is bullshit and exists to subsidize absolute scam drivers school, so people end up having to shell out 300,000yen to drive then go take the test at the LTO (Jap DVM). It's all just remembering a choreograph the proctor has to check wickets on.The laws regarding it were heavily pushed by the taxi union and drivers ed schools. The same group that also fights tooth and nail against 24hr subways. Also SOFA/zogbot drivers don't have to take that test so its moot anyway if the bitching is about bad American drivers.
Anyone ever try renting a car and sleeping on it while travelling across Japan? Or do they like, require an address for you to rent a car?
>>2869863ive definitely seen the cooler cars in the countryside. customized silvias etc. makes me happy. i just drive a yaris so people dont even noticealso like the other anon said i think its mainly the chinese. i swear people act like its all jeets there when its really just half the population of china and their nouveua rich causing hell. people just cant tell them apart apparently. all the jeets are working in konbini>>2869952its stupid easy. as an american atleast you just go to AAA, tell them youre not retarded, they print you an internarional license and then there you go, you can rent a car in Japan. dunno about sleeping in the car though.
>Get back from Japan>Tell buy normie friends I am planning to go back there again next year>They say I'm weird
>>2869956>call your friends normie>get offended when they call you weird even though that's just them confirming your own assertionretard
>>2869956>going yearlyDo you not get burnt out tho? I just got back (was there ~3weeks last month) and am not planning on going for another 2-3 years, maybe even waiting till 2030 for mgm osaka to open up. It's not even a saving up or available leave thing, i already got my next vacation in may booked (week in vegas), and will go see many places and do many things before i go back to japan again; i fuckin love japan and all but even by the last day or two of my last trip i was kinda running out of things to check off my list and was just kinda chilling at places id been before on prior trips (yasukuni, akihabara, nakano, bukuro, shibuya) rather than doing any new sightseeing. Imo its one of those absence makes the heart grow fonder or however the fuck that saying goes things.Like after a week in manhattan or vegas, i dont go back for another year at least
>>2869973nta but i never get tired of it. I went 3 months last year and cant go back soon enough. i also dont have a checklist or anything. i never touched skytree or any of the touristy stuff. i just go and live day to day life and its the best. happiness is 100 yen cawfee and konbini bento and being surrounded by cute girls
>>28699783monthsDo you rent an apartment? Where do you find them?
>>2869967Why do you assume I was offended?
Going to Japan for the 2nd time in April, is it worth staying in Chiba for the Tokyo portion of my trip? It's a lot cheaper and I'm a naturefag so I wouldn't mind doing some cycling and other outdoors stuff in the Chiba region.Or if anyone has any good spots or stuff to check out in Chiba, I used the MK's Japan map a lot on my last trip but there isn't much for Chiba on it.
>>2869983yeah theyre called monthly mansions. basically monthly leases for apartments. theyre geared towards salarymen that travel for work. the one i rented was a dump in a shinjuku suburb. some hotel chains also let you rent by the month i.e. unito, which im prob gonna try next timeits way cheaper than hotels. like 600-1k usd a month
>>2869985Personally I've only stayed in Chiba city, and there was honestly not much to see or do in or around there. The only reason I stayed there because it was cheap and close to the Makuhari Messe for the Tokyo Game Show. However, I do recall seeing some good scenery areas sprinkled around in that region and there's water all around the area, so cycling might be good there.
>>2869988Nice. What website do you find them? And just pay with credit card? Some of the monthly hotels probabaly have kitchens?
>>2869992i used the at-inn website. i wouldnt exactly recommend them but it got the job done. yeah, paid by card online. it covered utilities, deposit, etc so it was easy enough. then i picked up the key at the airport, then i was set. just dropped off the key in the mailbox after. no human contact needed. also nice not having to deal with housekeeping and all that every 3 daysmy place had a kitchen cuz it was a standard apartment. the hotel ones look like some of them do too. check the unito.life website. thats the hotel based one. they have pictures and floor plans. unitos more geared towards foreign digital nomads from what i hear so im gonna try it out. they seem way more modern than the att-inn places
I quickly need a comprehensive list of nip customs I'm supposed to follow as a gaijin that speaks a little japanese, where can I find one
>>2869996Thanks man, anything else worth mentioning for a fellow trying to rent a comfy home for 2-8 weeks?Im wondering how tough it would be to find just a room to rent, or rentals in the countryside
>Checking out Onsen town for my trip>Official hotels on the onsen website are all quite expensive, cheapest is 18-22k Yen a night>Check booking.com>Several hotels and ryoken not listed on the website, good google reviews, decent tabelog >Is like 5k yen a night Idk am I missing something here? I'm sure its not as luxurious as the others but I'm not that picky, as long as I get somewhere clean to sleep and a yukata to wear I'm happy.
>>2870003for the countryside you might have more luck with airbnb or guest houses depending how rural it is since options are more limited. i know a guy that rents airbnbs by the month in kansai and swears by ittheres also the website stayjapan where you can rent whole houses. its similar to airbnb but more places in the countryside. youd have to check if the place has monthly discountsive even seen single room rentals on booking.com when i was in tokyoso it definitely shouldnt be too hard to get a long term rental. even my last monthly rental, i booked only a week in advance. but i think the further you book out the more options youll haveeither way, its super nice. you basically get to live like the locals. biggest one for me was even though i was in tokyo, there wasnt a single tourist around me since it was away from hotels. just families and whatnot. so its much more peaceful
>>2870035whats an onsen website? i do everything via bookingcom usually. biggest red flags for cheaper places id look out for is if its a capsule hotel, hostel, or guesthouse but listed as a hotel. check location too ie if its far from the train. also check the reviews. Japanese are picky travelers, so read the Japanese ones
what's a good place i can post up with a Japanese book and do some aura farming today? too cold to go to a park, beaches are still closed, i suppose i can go to a cafe but that's a little cliche. i can read japanese but more importantly i want japanese people to see me reading japanese.
>>2870042Kinosaki. Yeah the place I was looking at was listed as an annex, probably from another hotel, but reviews(particularly Japanese) seemed to be 3/5 it was ok kind of reviews. So guess its not the full pampered experience with girls serving you tea but I'm fine with that, I want to spend my time in baths or surrounding nature after all.
>>2870043no one will care

>>2870099>Be warned (or informed) that's hentai/slannesh levels of Kabukicho degeneracy and they are members only on the really fucked up nights.im now super curious now about what happens in there
>>2870099thanks for the actionable info anon>If you really want to aura farm the irish/non-hub gaijin bars are titsI think I'll try the actually Irish + fluent Japanese combo and see how that worksalso curious to hear about the slannesh stuff if you're able to storytime. or just more inaka pics
I love hinoya curry at akihabara
>>2870099Seconding Irish pubs, way, way better than HUB. My bread and butter was parks. Every city has a park where people will gather at night to pregame or take a break between bar hopping. In Osaka it's Sankaku Park in Amerikamura. These are BY FAR the best places to approach because the girls are often not expecting it, at least not from a foreigner, and it's a big open space full of other people so they don't feel pressured. There are also huge varieties of people to choose from, and even if you were out by yourself you can just make it look like you were passing through the area on your way to somewhere else so you don't look like you're out looking for ass. Runner-up is subculture bars - metal, punk, skating, whatever you're into. I was introduced to my current gf by the owner of a rock and roll bar, I wasn't even a regular or anything, I'd only been there like 4 or 5 times, but he asked me what kind of girls I was into and when I told him he was like "hang on, I know just the one for you" and set us up. Third place, tachinomiyas. They're hostile to big groups by design, so if you can find a tachinomi with a decent crowd going there will definitely be some single girls. I've probably been APPROACHED BY women more often at tachinomis than anywhere else (read: that doesn't mean they were all 10/10 stunners or had sexual intent). Honorable mention to military bars. Probably the best places to hook up with other foreigners - tons of Filipino, Brazilian, Ukrainian, black, etc. girls at these places. Of course there are Japanese people as well but the true gaijin hunters often skew older (35+). On certain nights they're packed with Amerifat servicemen. They're not rude or mean or anything, at least I've never had a bad interaction, but the will monopolize the DJ booth and dance floor. If you say thank you for your service they'll buy you a shot.
>>2870035>am I missing something hereProbably.Prices vary a lot depending on how many people you book to a room and what meal plans you get. Half-board is usually the default at ryokans, but booking.com might show the special no-meal plans up front. Make sure you are specific about what you want when you search booking.com for ryokans.
Is experiencing a maid cafe worth it if you don't know much Japanese?
>>2869978>3 monthsThats wild, even back when i was a 1040 or remote i wouldn't even thing of doing something like that. I wouldn't even consider that a "vacation" thats practically living there. For me a vacation is staying in a hotel, sightseeing all day, pubcrawling all night, i ran out of things to daytrip sightsee in 3 weeks (i been to japan before, and dont claim to have seen 100% of everything, but my 'short list' of 20ish todo items was depleted)Im all for relaxing at home, but when i go somewhere id wanna make to most of it, i dont think i could keep such a pace for a full month let alone 3
>>2869985dont forget that your cheapness will quickly be made up in trainfare. also dont forget this now almost locks you out of more nature as you will have to do an hour of commute daily looking at the ground of a train. (assuming youre actually staying in chiba and not the border of tokyo disney or some shit.)chiba was chill i guess. certainly more nature than tokyo. but i still liked the nature around sendai more when i was on the trip that went through chiba... country train runs less and is slow so if u wanna actually see the edges and shit its a day long type activity.

>>2870134>COW DAYok you sold me on deka
>>2870144yeah i have a friend like that. we're just totally different travellers. to be fair i was laid off so i wanted to just bounce for a while and live a normal life in Japan. lists and plans feel too restrictive and exhausting to me. my normal day would be to vibe check and go from there. go to a new city? extend my stay? stay in? try something new? traveling for me is just freedom of routines and all of that. im sure i missed a lot of stuff by not having a list of things to do. but some of my best memories were be ad libbing and meeting cool people or finding random places when i took the wrong train
>>2870001just dont be an idiot im serious. look at what others around you are doing. in tokyo they all walk on the escalator one way. in osaka the other way. no on talks on trains. take off shoes before entering private room. apologize frequently and youll be loved. if youre aware of your surroundings youll pick it up fast bc of social harmony that everyone does
>>2870167>>2870167To be fair it wasnt really a hard list, all "sightseeing" plans were more or less made morning of or night before, but when im on vacay i *need* to be out and about all day and all night doing shit. Only abroad obviously, if im taking a week off and not going anywhere im waking up at ten and not leaving the house most days. But when i travel, it's like out of the hotel at 8-9am, back at 2-3am.Yeah different strokes for different folks, i got a lot of buddies who do the all inclusive resorts or cruises n stuff which i wouldnt ever want because... id rather just be at home lol doing the same shit. Same with i think "luxury travel" like ive stayed in dubai or that bretton woods mt washington place (work related, not places id pick myself), and yeah it's like fancy and shit but not much to do around, id rather be at home than go out of my way to go somewhere like thatProbably an age thing idk, most the friends and family i got who are into going somewhere to "relax" are older than me (36), while all of the kinds of trips i plan are like sightseeing all day drinking all night; and frankly in not very "relaxing" places (i love tokyo, manhattan and vegas, i would never ever live in any of those places, they're just places to party)
>>2870172yeah i totally respect that. most of my ftiends that are older than me have super packed schedules when they travel and do all sorts of things.i think for me its just a mix of things. i excited by things like vending machines and walks and stuff. im also just really introverted and shy. but at the same time i love being in the center of big cities so I'll go to shinjuku and dotonbori just to be in the nightlife. i think if i went with friends id probably go and do more things and party and all of that. but as a solo traveler i kinda just have trouble breaking the ice. some days id just straight up stay in my hotel.that said, when i did meet strangers like some random locals at 12am in akiba or whatever, thats when id go out drinking and talk to girls and its some of my favorite timesi also want to live in Japan some day, so its kinda different for me where i treat it more as home. If i went elsewhere id probably try to tripmaxx more
