I have been a huge weeaboo for The Netherlands for a few years now and recently I've been thinking a lot about maybe visiting the Dutch Caribbean.It has been my goal to experience the culture and history of the Netherlands, so its overseas territories such as Sint Eustatius, Aruba, Sint Maarten, Bonaire and Saba became a topic of interest to me. A place that blends Dutch culture with Caribbean climate just seem like a wonderful holiday destination.Are they worth visiting or avoiding at all costs? Are they a little taste of The Netherlands in the Caribbean or are they like any other third world shithole you would expect from that part of the world?

>>2867305I went to Aruba last year and had a great time. It’s very popular with a lot of boomer Americans but once you get away from the big strip of hotels it’s very cool and laid back. The Dutch vibe is definitely there with a sense of public order and community rather than garbage and crime. Even in the poorest corners of the island I never felt threatened. I was amazed at the one big Dutch style supermarket, with low prices for an island and a huge selection. It’s very mixed race and locals speak a weird creole but most people speak English to some degree. I’d imagine the smaller islands are less touristy but still have that genteel Dutch colonial vibe.
