China, but unironically.

The visa/transit visa requirement and longer more expensive trip will kill the potential basic TikTok casual tourism

Japan was a one stop shop and back on a relatively short and cheap trip for every basic bitch in the US
>>
>>2868889
Not to mention the VPN and using Alipay over cash/cc adds up to normie repellent
>>
>>2868889
You're claiming that China is more expensive than Japan for the casual leisure visitor? Hard to believe that.
>>2868890
Any evidence that Chinese businesses categorically refuse cash payment, or is this another falsehood that is being spread?
>>
I wouldn't be surprised that in the next decade India will become the new meme destination. People will go there just to be able to say they went to India. All they need to do is rape tourists a bit less and wash their hands more often
>>
>>2868889
only USA has visa issue.

>>2869904
>Any evidence that Chinese businesses categorically refuse cash payment, or is this another falsehood that is being spread?
no it isn't true. you might get the odd one and you might get workers who can't be bothered and you might get small shops who aren't going to break a 100RMB note but cash will be accepted.
you will definitely go into restaurants in malls and on streets which only have QR ordering via apps. but if you can't manage that just leave and go next door.
>>
>>2869936
The entire western world including Russia needs a visa unless China is incorporated into a 3+ country trip. Japan is there and back easy trip for any normie

You think normies will stomach getting yelled out in Chinese for being a retard who insists on paying in cash when Alipay is the custom? Moron
>>
>>2869936
>no it isn’t true, but almost entirely true except for examples I just made up in my head

There are a few safe havens where you're surrounded by white people, clean restaurants and 90% less chaotic than the rest of the country. But it's mostly "spirituality" places with temples and only hippies come here in the end.
I've been in one of those traveling randomly and it was weird as fuck. I asked the solo women there about safety and they said they never felt threatened at all.

But Japan being the hype now just shows people want an easy experience in the safest place possible, 99.9% of india will not reach that before decades.
>>
>>2870087
I think something like Kerala is close to being normie-friendly enough to become fashionable in the future. Rest of India would take decades though.

I agree with China.

Or South Korea if it's not already a meme travel place. Or Vietnam if not already.

Namibia

Definitely Vietnam. Their arrival stats are breaking all-time records. Every other travel Redditor is talking about their trip to Vietnam. 4.7M people arrived in the first two months of 2026, an 18.1% increase in foreign visitors compared to 2025. That's fucking huge. It's also such a narrow country that just about anywhere you go, you're bound to encounter foreign tourists either passing through or hanging around. English signage and English proficiency is becoming much more common.
>>2871060
Too desolate
>>2870107
India's foreign tourist arrivals have slumped significantly when compared to pre-COVID levels. India is not trending at all.
>>
Anyone saying China ITT is retarded
The infrastructure for foreign tourism is not there, not to mention the bullshit you have to deal with that would filter 95% of normie tourists or the language barrier
The correct answer is Vietnam
>>
>>2871686
Zoomers know how to use a phone. WeChat takes 2 minutes to set up, and once that's done, you're ready to go. And unless they're from Clapistan, nobody needs a visa.

During my last trip to Chongqing, I saw loads of 20-something white people. But I saw zero millennials or older.

>I recommend LetsVPN, it's cheap and works pretty well. Install it before going to China, otherwise you will have a bad time. But if you have an eSIM or something that routes your traffic to Hong Kong or a neighboring country, you should be fine.
>Don't forget to disable your VPN when you use AliPay otherwise AliPay will think you are trying some kind of scam. It happened to me because I use roaming data. Not a huge deal, I had to upload a picture of my face with my passport, but it was annoying and stressful for a little while.
Copied from one of the other china threads on the board
This is the next hot travel destination? Nigger please.
>zoomers
>good with tech
Made me lol
Not even addressing the lack of foreign tourist infrastructure, language barrier, or overbearing CCP hoops needed to jump through, which dissuade any normie traveler.
>trust me bro, just spend $60 a night on a foreigner approved hotel so they will register you with the police, give the chinese government all of your details so you can use their payment system to buy a bottle of water at the convenience store (you'll need a VPN which may or may not work), you'll need to know basic chinese, and make sure that you have a detailed outline of your entire trip to give to customs or they may deny you entry on landing.
I was just in Vietnam and it was filled with zoomers too who couldn't be assed to do a fraction of this shit. Not to mention that Vietnam is significantly cheaper, the locals speak English, and a foreigner can bounce around the country aimlessly and do whatever they want (including drugs and whores).
>>
>>2871725
Yes, we get it. You're retarded and need to go on guided tours. The typical TikTok user has no trouble getting around China. You're a level below them.
>>
>>2871732
I've been to China twice, and you are a coping chinaman.
SE Asia is still king, and nothing is going to change that.
Japan is literally forcing themselves to cut tourism in 2027 because so many people want to visit.
China has the opposite issue. They have to hire shills to try and sell the place because nobody wants to go and deal with that bullshit.
Normie tourists want a cheap, safe country that they can fly into and enter without issues, check into their airbnb VIA an uber or grab, have a vague and open plan, encounter friendly locals, and have hassle-free exploration while they post on their social media. This just isn't a thing in china in 2026, but of course you already knew that.
For every western tiktok zoomer that goes to China, another 100 go to Thailand or Vietnam
>>
>>2869926
I was fantasizing about there being a New Israel in India in the scenario where they get forcibly removed. I really think they could pull it off, people would home base it there because it would be clean and safe.

>>2870299
I am confused is this thread memes or kind of more like rare places that WILL become cool someday?

My list for future MUSTS that become memes you have influencers hit its:

Saint Petersburg Russia whenever this war ends its this hidden gem city with the most beautiful buildings in Europe save for a few maybe. it has hardcore Communist cache and when/if America collapses Gen Z will be big time commie.
Vietnam Son Doong Cave will be and already is THE meme place like every kid will grow up with this poster on its wall.
Everyone will get so degenerate they will contact the uncontacted tribes of the Amazon. That will be the next meme thing.
Venezuela might be memed, really cheap, its starting to "open up" not too far away from Los Angeles. Its got breathtaking stuff but was considered Tier Four dangerous by the US Consulate for like a decade.

Angel Falls
Cayo De Agua (los roques national park) one of the planets best unspoiled beaches like 50 islands to explore
Roraima
Teferico in Caracas
Some of the best prostitutes bar none and they are hungry as hell right now (I made this part up and its exaggeration I have no idea desu lol)
Mérida and The Andes
Drowned Church of Potosí underwater church eerie
Relámpago del Catatumbo, a near-constant lightning storm over Lake Maracaibo.
Just add commerce really.
>>
I've got an entirely remote gig at the moment, but it doesn't pay exceptionally well. How do you think I'd go on about $500AUD a week in El Salvador?
What are the options like at that price point? Are the girls attractive? Ideally I kinda wanna just stay there for like 180 days or so, pick up a qt and bring her back to Aus.
>>
I agree with the posts mentioning South Korea, China (for Europeans) and Vietnam because that's literally what I'm doing right now lol, I'm the anon who got mentioned in >>2871725

South Korea is hip due to K-pop and K-dramas, I met a ton of foreigners in Itaewon and Hongdae, but also in Busan and Gyeongju, especially white women.
Even if touristic attractions aren't that great, the food is good, it's cheaper than Japan and it's easy to get around.

China is unique, pretty cheap and has been opening up to Europeans, you don't see a lot of white people in the streets but they aren't that rare either.
Yes you have to jump through few hoops but they are well documented on /r/travelchina for example, and I've met a couple of people who don't even use phone apps to pay, so it's doable.
Due to geopolitical reasons, China will increase their soft power and be seen as more desirable while the USA decline even despite the bad international image the CCP has, and people will want to know what's happening there.

I haven't reached Vietnam yet, but there is beautiful stuff to see, the food is good and it's cheap as fuck, and I've heard people are pretty nice and aren't too bad at English. It was already a meme destination among Gen X boomers in the know with Thailand before Thailand got shilled hard by passport bros.

I also agree with Albania, went there last year and one older friend told me it's basically like Croatia was 20 years ago, and the Albanian government seems to bet hard on tourism.
I also went to Serbia but its war criminal reputation scares normies except Turks and Russians so it won't be popular.
I noticed a lot more tourists in Slovenia compared to the last time I went ten years ago so maybe it's already a meme destination.
The Baltics are also becoming a meme destination somewhat, in part because the weather is pleasant during summer.

Once the Russo-Ukrainian war is over, both might become meme destinations, Ukraine for liberals and Russia for chuds.
>>
>>2871797
I mean yeah, if you're a coomer and want food poisoning and scams and dirty air, then SE Asia is still great. But every other retard manages to travel in China just fine. If you can't manage it, that says more about you than everyone else.
>>
>>2872284
I mean in my previous hostel there was a couple of 19yo Brits, they didn't seem distraught at all, each of them had a six-pack and were joking about how 20 meters away from a hammer and sickle there is a "Mackie", you know the typical lads having a good time.
Maybe this anon travelled in China when the country was less open and more challenging for foreigners, ten or twenty years ago. Any expat who lived there long-term will tell you the country changed a lot since the 2008 Beijing olympics.
>>
>>2872284
>food poisoning and scams and dirty air
>implying china isn't notorious for all of this
>>
>>2872284
Maybe 1% of young people go to SEA for hookers. It's not what they're there for for the vast majority. How fucking disconnected from reality you are?
>>
>>2872287
China 20 years ago isn't China today, boomer.
>>2872291
Cope.
>>
I'm glad I went to Japan pre-covid, I still fucking love it over there but areas you can really tell have become more instagrammy
Even Akiba feels more for foreigners than Otaku now
>>
>>2872293
A handful of flashy world-class cities like Shanghai and Chongqing don't change the reality in the rest of the country. China's GDP per capita still remains below the world average, despite the tremendous growth of its urban areas. That's a sign that the countryside lags far behind.
>>2872286
The government wants those kind of happy-go-lucky foreigners to fly in, stay in their English-speaking urban containment zones and chase a good time. You're only going to encounter the real hassle when you decide to start exploring the country as a long-term wanderer and see what the real China is like (not the reel China of LED riverfront skylines).
>>
>>2872571
I feel like you don't understand how all of you said completely deserve your argument.
So in China, you have world-class dense and hectic cities like Shanghai and Chongqing, natural and cultural jewels in tourist-friendly cities like Beijing and Guilin/Yangshuo, and Eastern European-tier shitholes elsewhere for the more adventurous Real Traveler™ kind.
In most countries you either get one or the other. On top of that, accomodation, food and taxis are cheap as fuck for Westerners, and it's absolutely safe for women or any drunk cunt at night.
Tell me how China is not supposed to become a new meme destination with these criteria. What is the real problem? Did a Chinese guy pissed in your cornflakes one day or something?
>>
>>2872588 (me)
Sorry, English language is inconsistent, so by "deserve" I meant "undermine". And no I'm not Chinese, I just enjoy my time there.
>>
>>2872571
SE Asia is even lower in GDP so I don't think you even know what you're trying to argue, Mossad.
>>
>>2872571
Careful, anon
You are not allowed to discuss the real China (or its problems) outside of the tourist areas of Tier-1/New Tier-1 cities or else you risk being called a jew by a shillbot
See >>2872638
>>
>>2868814
Having been to both, china will definitely grow in popularity, but I doubt it'll ever catch japan. japan is just _too_ convenient in a way that china never, ever will be. Just try finding a restroom in beijing, and compare that to trying in tokyo.
>>
>>2872653
Comparing Beijing to Tokyo is like comparing New Delhi to Vienna. The Chinese don't even like going to Beijing. It's more of a place where you live for the employment opportunities it provides.
>>
>>2872654
Just walking around the streets and seeing the types of people in Tokyo these days, it is indeed looking like New Delhi. Cannot imagine why anyone would still choose to visit.
>>
Got back from China at the end of Jan and the "hoops" you need to jump through are trivial at best.
Seems like certain posters making it out to be some hellscape that's impossible to get to for Joe blow is completely out of touch in the current year.
Beijing is a boring shithole tho
>>
>>2868806
Japan is the best place on Earth.
Dont want to go? Fine fuck you.
I will not be crab bucketed.
>>
>>2872658
>tokyo is a jeet-filled shithole
>still mogs beijing in literally every way possible
oof
not a good look, changbros...
>>
>>2872638
The difference is Southeast Asia caters to visitors who don't speak the local language, and goes out of their way to serve them. China does not. If you are used to traveling in difficult countries with a severe language barrier and making do with whatever you can get, you will of course be able to handle China. But if you want a budget $2 per plate Chinese eatery to walk you through the menu, explain each dish in English and help you choose, you're SOL.
>>2872588
Highly doubtful that China is as cheap for Westerners as you make it out to be. Chinese have always been famous for two-tier pricing. You never hear about budget travelers doing China on $25 per day. Why? Because Chinese neither welcome nor respect such travelbums. English fluency and fawning customer service is reserved for the upper crust of society. The lower classes are rude, perpetually impatient and utterly disdainful of English-only white people.
>>2872658
You have no fucking idea what New Delhi is like, so it's best for you to quit talking. The presence of a few brown faces in Tokyo doesn't change the nature of Japanese culture.
>>2872660
>it's le bestest!!!
And that's exactly why I don't want to visit. I can't stand the best places, because they are full of pretentious normie faggots who all want to go to the BEST country, eat at the BEST restaurant, stay at the BEST hotel, go on the BEST nature hike, see the BEST example of period architecture.

Have you even been - there's a lot of opinionated points here that don't seem informed.
>highly doubtful
You make a point of saying fawning customer service doesn't exist in China like that's a bad thing, and then in the last point say you can't stand people who only travel for the best? Which is it
China has rapidly raised their standard of living compared to SEA and as a result things are somewhat more expensive. I got 40 dumplings for 40Y, that's pretty damn cheap for just shy of a first world country. It might not be the BEST cheapest destination but it's good value
