lol literally oit of money buying gifts. able to check bag near to the dollar...anybody wanna piss on me for 50$?
What are some highlights for Kyushu?Nagasaki? Saga? Kitakyushu? Fukuoka? Kagoshima? Miyazaki? Oh and what's the deal with the yatai in Fukuoka?
>>2870635I once had an airline have their free carry-on limited to 7kg. I had a 10kg bag, that of course I had to check for 50 dollars. In light of all of this oil prices are a significant part of the cost for flights, and weight is a factor in determining how much fuel is used, why don't they give discounts to starving Ethiopians, and charge your obese mother 500 dollars extra. But seriously, they're a bunch of lying conniving rat pieces of shits, and I'm glad the tourism industry is going to take a hit.
>>2870642i have just enough to check my 75 DOLLAR BAG. of course 60 people on the flight will weigh more than it and i do. and ofcourse their small bags will be dense with stupid rocks and anything else they bought, i just am ipaet im out of money to buy gifts for people. i feel like a fuck up. im tired of walking around and seeing happy go lucky faces soaking in all the shit that never happened that theyll brag to people they hate back home that they did.yeah im glad tourism will take a hit, travel shouldnt be for any ecconomic class or "reasoned" individual, it should be only for people who feel some sort of calling to do it... im not even sure i like it fully, but when im back home it feels like it finished marinating i guess...
>>2870642>7 kg carry-on limitPretty standard for poorfag airlines
>>2870632First time in JapanDo I have to call everyone a Sensei
>>2870651i call everybody kouhai and they mindlessly submit when i pull out a pocketwatch and sway it to and fro.
>>2870657OK OK thank you my friendIs it true Asian pussy is sideways? :o
>>2870660no its just usually 14 hours ahead or something like that, check the tinezone her period might be a day sooner than usual.
Has anyone managed to successfully book via ikyu.com English site? I'm trying to book a nice ryokan, but the confirmation SMS never comes. I tried all kinds of number forwarding sites and such, but no luck.I also emailed them, the response was pretty much - "Yeah we know it doesn't work sometimes, it can't be helped."The ryokan is a good 100 Eur cheaper than on booking.com.
>>2870712Booked a place in November just fine.
For my next Japan trip I'm planning on visiting Hokkaido to see peak Winter snowfall, then make my way down as the cherry blossoms start to appear. Would probably stay for 45-50 days. What's the ideal period to visit to achieve this? February to March?
>>2870726sakuras generall late mar early april in tokyo so take that as you will. the further south you go the better chance youll see sakura in march
>>2870726>What's the ideal period to visit to achieve this? February to March?Yes.
>>2870651Call us "senpai"
Stayed on all my travels on Ueno/Asakusa, how's the west side? considering Nakano/Ikebukuro
>>2870651Don't worry, no one will talk to you. They're not really an outgoing bunch, unless you get some beer in them, but they're at work or going to work half the time.
>>2870769How do I find a wife then?
>>2870759I love Nakano, the mandarake there is a treasure trove of cool old stuff if you are into that.
>>2870770When ready, life presents itself.
>>2870632Best things to do in Tokyo? Unique cafes ect?
Is Kabukicho really that bad a place to book for hotels? I know the usual info about the place, but I'm curious more than anything, as it throws an overwhelming majority of booking results online. It can't be that bad is it?Anyway, my top pick to be my Tokyo headquarters is Ueno.
>>2870803its very busy, touristy, a bit loud, not super family friendly as its a place littered with bars clubs drunk people touts etc. probably the sketchiest place you could book, but i think you'd be fine to be honest.
wont lie im very excited to leave.
>>2870799Get lost in it, it's packed to the brim with sights, sounds, and tastes. >>Unique cafesI only walked by and didn't try it, but this looks unique to me
>>2870813Whatta fucking loser. Going to a cafe past noon will ruin everything. With the half-life of caffeine, you will still have some in your system, disrupting your ability to goto bed before 10pm, so that you'll be able to wake up before 5am in the Land of the Rising Sun. If you want to be a degenerate and not get any sleep, goto Southeast Asia.
>>2870813>Get lost in itHow does one safely get lost in a city? My tokyo plans are good, but osaka's got guaranteed days with no plans. Can you get lost in the grid of osaka?
>>2870816It's a figure of a speech anon. I mean just take a day, pick a part of Tokyo and wander around.
Anyone know where i can get a playlist of the train station jingles/melodies?There's a couple on youtube but they are 15 years old and i dont remember hearing any of them. And they are missing stations too.
>>2870819that is white noise torture shit.
>>2870816Ride around on a bike-sharing bike
I just found out apparently Nishinari is a shithole. Is it really that bad? Way too late to change my accomodation there but it was so cheap, surely it can't be that bad compared to average Western inner city......I won't get mugged at night on my way to the hotel, right? Got to walk a few minutes.
I'll be spending a night in Numazu in mid April, and gotta be in Tokyo the next evening. Anything worth visiting between them other than Hakone? Or do I just go to Hakone?
>>2870903You're fucked, make sure you write your will before you go
>>2870903I'm staying in Nishinari in the summer, kek.Apparently there's lots of day drinkers and homeless but its still not dangerous. I guess we will find out.
>>2870907I feel like a single day in Hakone without staying would be very rushed. Trains/buses stop running kind of early and it's all quite inconvenient since it's spread out.Fujinomiya is a pretty good nearby city for a good view of Mt Fuji. Has a nice shrine there. Shiraito Falls are also fairly close and can be nice to see. Atami is another neat nearby city. Very 1980s in style. Lots of hot springs and a great art museum, MOA Museum of Art.
Can anyone recommend a nice (and spacious) hotel in Osaka? Can be on the more expensive side but nothing too crazy ($300+/n)
>>2870903You won’t encounter robberies, violence, or widespread drug use. The most you’ll come across are harmless old men who’ve had a few drinks in the middle of the day. Female backpackers even walk around at night without a care in the world. But if you point a camera at them, they might get angry.
ill be in Tokyo April 10- think there will be any color left on the trees?

im going to japan with my family for the first time, i dont want to offend anyone and none of us know the language, gonna read op to learn but im quite nervous or im i overthinking things too much?
>>2870799The main beats are: 1. Shibuya: Tokyo's Time Square, neon, shops, restaurants. Meiji shrine. 2. Shinjuku: Shibuya's seedier cousin. If a foreigner approaches you and tells you to go anywhere, it's a scam.3. Asakusa: Old Town, big temple. 4. Harajuku/Omote-Sando: Fashion district. 5. Ginza: Used to be a bigger deal in the past than it is now. Still has shops.6. Yokohama: Chinatown.7, Roppongi, it's a shittier version of Shinjuku IMO, but has nightclubs if you're into that. Avoid any bar a foreigner tries to take you to (it's a scam.)
>>2870968Your over thinking things but it's understandable because traveling to a place you dont know the language for the first time is always stressfulBut genuinely you don't need to worry. Legit almost every sign in Tokyo is in english, you'll all be fine.
>>2870968pretty much all signs are bilingual unless you go really into the country. i know a lot of people that went that didnt know any JP and had a great time.knowing the basics of sorry and thank you go a really long way though. and basic ettiquete. ie no speaking on trains, not blocking sidewalks, being mindful of others>>2870971ginzas also chinatown. i will never forgive them for turning the high end place into a fucking zoo where people sit on sidewalks all day and smoke
Should I make base in Osaka or Kyoto?Im planning day trips to Nara, Himeji and Wakayama. Which one is more affordable and tranquil?
How would I go about meeting japanese when I go there this summer? I want to couchsurf there, but doubt I will find anyone willing to host me for the full two weeks.
>>2870982>tranquilkyoto
>>2870982I'm partial to Osaka, but I like a little concrete with grit and grime. Nishinari was mentioned it's a backpacker hub because it's so cheap. Kyoto will probably be more quiet and tranquil, but IDK about affordable. It comes with a slightly more uptight culture, and less laidback vibe I got in Osaka. YMMV.>>2870968Sumimasen is kind of like excuse me. Covers a lot of bases if you feel like you are bothering someone.
>>2870984Tobita shinchii, meet me behind the ramen shop any night after 11pm, youll know the one when you see it
Going to Japan with 6 others (yes yes I know) and we'll go to Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka and a daytrip to Nikko, Kawaguchiko and maybe Nara. One of us has ordered all our tickets and shit, which I'm generally grateful for. He got filtered because of the confusing UIs on the official sites so he used Klook instead even though I didn't recommend it, but because of the small price difference I didn't make a big deal out of it.Today he told me that he plans on doing the following for public transport, so excluding the limited express trains/shinkansen:>Arrive at airport in Tokyo, buy multiple metro passes for however long we are going to be there>Kyoto: again, city bus & metro passes for however long we are going to be there>Osaka: city bus & metro passes for however long we are going to be there, but he wasn't sure yet if we could skip public transport and simply walk everywhere instead. All of these passes are valid for 24h/48h/72h each, so we would need to buy multiple passes for all cities.Meanwhile my idea:>Arrive at airport in Tokyo, buy a (green) suica card and fill it up. If not available at the airport then get it at a station.>Occasionally fill it up at a station if neededAssuming that my idea is makes more sense, how can I convince this retard to do things my way? I already told him about the suica card but I can't seem to change his mind.
>>2871000you'll be fine with an ic card but don't try to convince him if he's intractable, just tell him not to get you passes
>>2870917Candeo: The Tower in Umeda. Rooms are 24m2 by default. Free access to their gym (single cable machine, dumbbells, no barbells), and their open air bath. A small inconvenience is the lack of microwave or vending machine. If you want a snack, you'll have to wait for the elevator down to ground floor (their lobby is on the 17th)
>>2871000I mean the suica basically is a metro pass that covers all those areas, and with no time limit, you could try that angle. Your mate probably thinks he is getting a good deal by getting those crappy 2 or 3 day local passes and if he's done the research and he's the one who's "in charge", he's probably unlikely to change his mind.If you're travelling in a group i'd say it's better to just go with the flow and do what everyone else does, even if it's not optimal. You don't want to be the odd one out or everyone else is gonna get shitty with you (even though you're right). It will be a pain when they want to take some local tourist bus that is covered under the regional metro pass but that doesn't take suica or whatever.
>>2870968If you're going to big major cities like Osaka or Tokyo, you can and your family can access anything you want without having to interact with a single soul. Places like the convenience store and small diners are trending towards automation - you just order something and pay with a smart touch screen (they have language options)When in doubt, stand back a bit and use google translate to plan what you do
>>2871011>>2871000What's wrong with those timed metro passes? They're very cost-effective (you should still carry a suica anyway). Not to mention if you suddenly need to take a dump. You can trust the bigger train stations to have clean toilets.
>>2871014i should add if you look really confused, someone will probably help you. happened to me when the station lockers confused me. if youre respectful, people will appreciate it
>>2871011that's true, if they take some retarded tour bus you might run into issues>>2871016tokyo one doesn't cover a bunch of lines and they aren't much (or any) cheaper depending on your itinerary. you don't want to be constantly checking who runs which line or changing routes to get your money's worth when you can use google maps without thinking about itover a sample size of weeks in those 3 cities doing tourist shit I spent ~4k a week taking public transit like a madman, tons of transfers, express train to the airport, wasting money a few times, vending machine purchases, etc. even if they applied to every trip I took I would have lost money on passes, and they didn't at allpublic transit is so cheap, it's not worth the hassle
>>2870819My mother absolutely hated the jingle from Tokyo station. It's so incredibly loud and ruins an otherwise nice station.
Does anyone have an opinion on Asakusa Rockza?
Is Hanno worth a day trip? Gonna stay in Kuki for a week and wondering if its worth the ~2hr train ride.
>>2871065>accidentally saved the thumbnailholy fuck I'm retarded
>>2871065Probably, just make sure to get up early as fuck and make the most of it, plan it out well.2hr each way is a hell of a day trip for me now.
>>2870968Japan is full of fat white and brown foreigners no matter where you go. People litter, make a mess, and it's just awful. So long as you're not trying to force trash into the recycling bins outside (anything with a round hole is for bottles and cans only), you'll be better than 99% of tourists.
>>2871083I'm not walking 20km carrying a piece of plastic. I'll shove it into the plastic trash round hole, and your government come up with a way to sort it out, if it's truly a big deal. Your shame shit won't work on me. Capiche.
>>2871040The Tokunai Pass can be a good value depending on your plans. ¥870 for unlimited JR in core Tokyo and station access too.
>>2871087The best is the Climate Card. It's every bus and train in Seovl for 30 days and cost 62 thousand Won. That's basically a dollar a day, and you don't have to pay attention to which corporation owns what piece of infrastructure.
Just spotted a tourist in Shinjuku in full Peaky Blinders gear. It was one of you guys, wasn’t it?
>>2870803If you’re going with Kabukicho get one of the hotels at the northern edge, close to Higashi Shinjuku station. You want to live on the outskirts, not right in the middle of degen city
>>2871091Nah. I'm a real nigger, formally real traveler™. If I'm gonna be in Kanto, you can me in Yokohama or Chiba. Pic unrelated: https://youtu.be/hir_MgO6InQ?is=9GEPrnVFXYx4ZUMi
