In my experience Motel 6 is extremely reliable about always having functioning ice machines

Same. But, I always have whatever hotel snacks or drinks with me when I arrive in said hotel.

It varies widely between Asian countries. Some like Thailand use fucktons of ice, others like India have virtually no ice at all.
