Just finished two weeks in Thailand. I went to Bangkok and then Koh Kood

Bangkok was just like I remember it. The new booze laws there are kind of annoying but not a big deal.

Koh Kood was fucking awesome. It’s a couples island %100. I stayed on a beach shack “resort” with my wife that was ran by an extended family. Dad oversaw everything, mom ran the kitchen, the two sons did the grounds keeping and maintenance and the 12 yo daughter was the fucking bartender at their little tiki hut beach bar lol. Really cool vibe on the whole island, only saw a few families but they were in the bigger resorts. No college kids either like you’d find in Phuket. It was also cheap cheap, like Thailand used to be back in the 2000’s. And, apparently, mushrooms are legal on that island, you can get them at the pot dispensary’s they have. It’s cash only in 99% of the spots, the few ATMs get drained quickly, and getting out there will burn up a full day or more of travel from Bangkok but goddamn if you need a peaceful place to just chill out without a bunch of screaming crotch goblins or drunk bro-dudes, Koh Kood fit the bill. I would advise going soon because they have a lot of new infrastructure being built on the island and it seems to me to be up and coming and that stuff might start to blow up and get popular and expensive.

I stayed on the beach, 10 feet from the water for $90 a night on the ass end of the island with a place that had a lot of modern amenities. you can get cheaper for about $30 a night but not DIRECTLY on the beach and/or you might not have air conditioning or a bar right next to your shack. Food/drink is the cheapest thing, a big non-fancy Thai breakfast is $3 and beers are $1.50, you can get an amazing seafood dinner for $10 or less, and when I say amazing, this is coming from someone who booked a 2 star michelin restaurant in BKK for a fancy date night with my lady, go figure some random Thai nona is a better cook than some pretentious asshole in Bangkok.

You got a couple ways to get there from Bangkok, you can take a ferry that’s 10+ hours from Bangkok and costs $45 per person. Or you can get a flight into Trat for $50 a person that takes an hour and then you pay another $50 to get a taxi into Laem Sok pier where you pay another $40 for a nights accommodation to pay another $20 per person to take the ferry. I did the latter and didn’t regret it. Laem Sok had the small Thai farming village vibe I liked with a cool little night market and we, once again, stayed with basically some durian farming family who threw up some bungalows on their property for passing through tourists. Scooter rentals were $10 a day for the higher powered ones with helmets but you can get the 125cc ones with no helmet for $5 a day. I got a multi day discount for 5 days that worked out to be around $7 a day. The locals who run the ferry service have truck taxis doing hot laps around the whole island most of the day and they are pretty good about picking up hitchhikers along their route for free (I usually tipped like 20 baht). We also got a lot of other freebies while we were there.

Sounds pretty sweet, never even heard about the place before now.

No since it's not my own company. In my last few years of working, I figured out that I could scoot my stool to the right a bit and pull out the monitor to almost totally cover my face. I barely did shit for several months but was getting antagonized and got tons of passive aggressive shit and disrespect for it so was still pretty stressful. Several months of remote wfh pay and then a severance of about 5 months pay.

I was so burnt out. I worked my absolute ass off while being treated like shit for a year before that at that abusive and exploitative company. I'm also bitter and entitled because of all the coaching I gave people who were pay grades above me and getting promoted when they hardly knew what they were doing and didn't even really care. It's almost entirely politics and appearances that got them what they have. Some of them even enjoyed rubbing it in my face and mocking me.

Blah blah it's not fair whatever. I still just need to get over it, and some other things in my life, and continue moving on.
