Boise is a comfy place to live if you are married, have 3 kids, make maybe 150k a year as a couple, want a cheap new fab house with a big lawn and neighbors with kids, good schools, and low crime.

But it's really really boring if you're not married, have the travel bug, etc. Even the outdoors stuff there's better places to live in Idaho and the inter-mountain region.

Not anymore. Everyone in America, but particularly rich white people with money, has fallen in love with the idea of living in the West amongst all that spectacular nature. There are some parts of Idaho that are not growing into sprawltopias like Boise, but they can be very hostile to outsiders, or at best completely indifferent. People have told me it took years for them to make real friends after moving to such a place.

Yes, Idaho's GDP per capita is startlingly low. But that doesn't mean it's dirt cheap anymore.

No, it's still a red state with very strict police. Most of Idaho feels like a no-fun zone, but if you are sick and tired of seeing degenerate and unruly behavior every time you go downtown, it's a great place to be. Boise's black population has more than tripled in the last two decades, but chances are most of those are blacks looking to work hard and mind their own business.
