Any /trv/lers ever been deployed here?
No but its on my bucket list to visit and see penguins in the wild but I guess going to Newfoundland and chilling with puffins is the closes I'll likely get that won't be assrapingly expensive.
>>2871212>its on my bucket list to visit and see penguins in the wildIt might be easier than you think.
Apparently Antarctic tourism is the latest thing that chronically online slacktivist people find problematic.
>>2872450fucking this. I need to book my trip before fucking globohomo closes to everyone but the ultra rich.Im open to travel suggestions, the main thing is that i need to set foot and hopefully spend a night in the continent. No stupid cruises, boat sleeping doesnt count. That really narrows the options and increases the costs
>>2871172>Any /trv/lers ever been deployed here?yeah did a cruise there last year>23 days for Antarctica, Falklands & South Georgiaand South Georgia was (by far) the best / most interesting locationhad booked some kayaking package, where you kayak at every location, which was awesomestill fucking hate cruisessadly it was the only option here>>2872467>the main thing is that i need to set foot and hopefully spend a night in the continent. wanted to do this as well, but it'd be like double the cost of a cruisewhich was already like 40k€/p.P. (and there are cheaper options)you can actually work in Antarctica thoughif you have relevant qualifications for anything maintenance related it's fairly easy to do a 6month iteration on a research station>No stupid cruises, boat sleeping doesnt countas far as cruises go it's not that bad (I imagine)you typically stay for 2-3 days at each locationthough you have 3x 2day passages that are only at seadrake passage was kinda fun though
>>2872488Thx. The most realistic option are the 1-2 companies that can land at Union Glacier, a new Chilean base they built way inland. If I cant gather the money soon, meh, the cruise will be.At least there are several options were they let you land
>>2872492>most realistic option are the 1-2 companies that can land at Union Glacierthere are actually quite a lot of cruises that offer some camping for a night on landi went with Quarks Expeditionand they offered one night Camping as well, where you slept outdoor under the skybut they are all restricted by the 100 people rule (quarks was 50 but only like a dozen people booked it)so these will typically be smaller and more expensive in the first place>If I cant gather the money soon, meh, the cruise will bei think the cheapest ones are like 7-8k when I researchedbut apparently you can save thousands with last minute tickets, i.e. just fly to Ushuaia and "wait" until a slot opens up>At least there are several options were they let you landbut be aware the super budget cruises won'tthey just cruise byif your cruise has >500 guests, it's unlikely they land at alleverything beyond >200 guests will already be shit and only short because of the 100people rule
>>2871172I worked mcmurdo station for 6 months (over winter). The food was good, the gym was okay, the job was boring but kept me busy. Gender ratio was at least 5:1 so there was always some low key drama going on.The most interesting thing that happened was a libtard freak had a meltdown that the firefighters were watching racist stand up comedian skits and tried to get them fired or something, but she got "arrested" by the station manager instead and confined to quarters for a week. I had to bring her meals since we worked for the same company.Outdoors were a no go. Nothing to see, dark 20 hours a day. So cold your teeth hurt with your mouth closed. It was an interesting experience but I wouldn't do it again.
>>2872572Thanks, the Union Glacier stuff is something entirely different, way beyond just setting foot. But you wont find anything under 30k. The night camping is a possible alternative
