I’m in the military and might have a slim chance of being stationed in Japan. I’ve been stationed in Europe the last few years, and I’ve become addicted to traveling and seeing different parts of the world. But my time in the military, I wouldn’t say, has been good. I despise the hierarchical structure and the lack of true freedom.I was able to visit Japan last year, and out of every country I’ve been to, maybe besides Iceland, Japan has it beat. I would love to live there. But for the reasons above, not liking my job, missing out on college (at least in my 20s), and the way the world is changing with wars, it has been a hard decision to make.Does anyone have any practical advice? I’m sort of surrounded by people telling me to re-enlist, but I just want to hear any second opinions you guys might have.Photo I took this photo while I there last year.
>Does anyone have any practical advice?Be a man and get a job in the oil fields, don't waste your time with this travelling crap
>>2871547>I’m in the military and might have a slim chance of being stationed in JapanThere's a decent chance it's Okinawa, isn't it? I mean, it is legally Japan, but it's quite different culturally. It's like comparing Hawaii to New York.
>>2871547A lot of foreigners who live in Japan have a proper visa to do so. Meaning a company has sponsored them to come. And usually it involves getting it renewed each year. Japan rarely hands out visas for more than a year at a time. English teaching is an industry a lot of foreigners slot into. But, the yen is weak, and the pay isn't super great. So you won't have a lot of money to go home with. Like 1 months pay will be the roundtrip ticket to the U.S. Japan's population is falling and English skills are not high, so there are probably jobs in other fields if you wanted to pursue something else. Assuming you re-enlist and you do end up in Japan, IDK how much time off base you guys get. But that's another route I suppose.
>>2871547Those stationed in Japan are being deployed to Iran right now. Thousands in Okinawa have already been put on a ship and are headed that way. If you choose to be stationed in Japan, they'll ship you off to the meat grinder quickly. Them saying you have a great chance to go to Japan could very likely just be a carrot on a stick to get you somewhere else.
P.A.P.E.R.C.L.I.PPeople against people ever re-enlisting. Civilian life is preferred. I couldn't recommend not reupping enough anon. Everyone in the military is comfortable and only suggests staying in because they're children that are scared of life outside. Everyone outside only sees positive aspects and doesn't experience the huge negatives. Maybe you don't have some huge aspirations but the military basically locks you into a life of mediocrity. I was in the Navy for a long time because i fell for the travel and the world meme but it's so much worse in every aspect than traveling as a civilian. You can figure out how to live there on your own anon believe in yourself
>>2871547>I’m sort of surrounded by people telling me to re-enlistyou won't have a choice when they initiate stop-loss next month
>>2871547jobs hard to find, most likely will get harder.so unless you have a solid plan, i would just re-enlist
>>2872253Not hard in Japan. Not hard in U.S. for that matter. Vets get their own Affirmative Action for govt job openings.
>>2871547>I’m in the military and might have a slim chance of being stationed in JapanJust know that average japanese women HATE military US guys stationed in their country and you'll only get to fuck ratchet bitches who also like the biggest blackest niggers because they watch too many american movies and listen to lil wayne. The ones who go for military guys also latch onto them with hopes of a green card then rape your wallet
>>2871547DO NOT FUCKING REENLIST YOU DUMB ASSHOLE.If you want to go live in Japan use the GI bill to do it, you can probably live for free in Japan for 2 or 3 years, finish up your 4year degree that way, and move on to something else.
>>2871547If you want to move to Japan, get a degree. They are obsessed with that document, or get a spouse
>>2871547>ReenlistDon't. Or do, I'm not you. But leaving was the best decision I ever made. You probably have education benefits, use them. Get a better job than whatever you have in the military and then travel wherever the hell you want to. Oh, and unless you have in your contract that you'll be stationed in Japan, assume it's a lie and a trap.
>>2871547When you get out look into using your GI Bill for overseas schooling. It is absolutely do-able I knew a guy who was in school for hospitality or something but all paid by Uncle Sam. And for the love of God, DO NOT REENLIST UNLESS YOU ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO!Good luck out there and TYFYS. It gets better.
>>2872288the china part of that picture is so accurate kek
>>2872288Sure thing, chingpong. Whatever helps you sleep at night
>>2872432Yeah there's a video on thishttps://youtu.be/tnlAJmeFf0w?
>>2871547If you don't like being in the military by all means, get out. But make sure you get everything you can from the military before you do because once you're out and the benefits door swings shut you're done. Any obscure program you can benefit from at your services' expense is something you should be up their ass getting.
>>2872432I've been looking into it and there are a lot less schools that accept the GI bill in japan nowadays sadly. It changed a few years ago so lots of advice online is outdated.>>2872655I used to watch this guy's videos lol. I've heard a lot of bad things about Temple though.
