If you are a white American, I do not recommend it at this moment in time. Mexicans are extremely turbo butthurt for multiple reasons, and its only getting worse.Only consider it if you are a fluent Mexican Spanish speaker, some sort of tan, and willing to "go native".

I enjoyed the state of Guanajuato. It's quiet, peaceful, conservative, and the food is good, and its only a few hours from mxdx.
