Anyone been to New Caledonia? Seems pretty underrated. Highest biodiversity density in the world, unique landscapes, interesting political climate, comfy beaches and subtropical weather.
>>2872687>Highest biodiversity density in the worldone of the highest, not the highestthat title usually goes to >Yasuní National Parkother contenders, albeit larger regions>generally Tropical Andes>Sundaland for marine life>Cape Floristic Region>Madagascarand here you could add New Caledonia as well, which is mainly included for it's endemismfor megadiverse countries>Brazillikely takes the top spotanyway>Anyone been to New Caledonia? Seems pretty underratedI wouldn't call it underrated in a sense where no one knows about itjust very far away and people rather go to Australia / NZ when already flying this fari've been there for a weekbut mainly for divingcont.
>>2872690so there are a few cool hiking and cycling trails throughout the whole main islandalso a few canyons you can decentthe hikes range from okay to really interesting, depending a lot on how deep you're into botany and plant taxonomy...the mangroves in the south west were unimpressive / disappointingbig disclaimer here though, I've already been to the Everglades, Sundarbans, Pichavaram and DRC Mangroves National Parkso I've seen a lot of mangroves alreadythe cooler parts are in the south, the scrub landscapes (again, only REALLY interesting if you're into botany, otherwise it likely gets boring after a few days)and the rain forest on the whole north east coast>>2872687>comfy beaches and subtropical weather.keep in mind that it's relatively expensiveit's not SEA where you coast by on <30€/dayprices are really similar to (rural) France
>>2872687In Japan, it is known as "the island closest to heaven"
