No it's true, as a tourist you can't verify your ID so they just think you're trying to open fake accounts. It's not really an issue for tourists, there's an element of double pricing though where locals are all getting discounts through apps which tourists can't get. But getting tourist taxed in Asia, pretty expected.Last time I had this problem was with public transport, having to buy overpriced all area tourist tickets because I couldn't get a local transport card or the app. It was like the eurail pass situation.
