Albertan here. What do you guys think of the Canadian Rockies as a travel destination?
>>
It’s ok, if you like that sort of thing. I only go to beach destinations
>>
It would be better if it was called the American rockies

Normie containment zone, canada really prides itself on lame shit like accessibility. That beautiful lake is way too close to the trailhead for it to be an enjoyable place, all the sandal wearers and soys get to experience the view without earning it. I'm sure there's actually difficult hikes in Banff and Yoho but they should be gatekept hard and not posted to tiktok and jewstagram. Also Banff as a town is overrated as hell.

I think it's fantastic. Moving there this year.

It's fine if you live in a part where you don't have to be surrounded by actual Canadians.

It's too remote and boring for me. I like hiking, but I want a good meal and a warm bed at the end of the day. And it's not exactly cheap to do it. If you have to fly to Canada, rent a car and then pay $7.50/gallon for gas, you could have just flown to France and taken the bus to the Alps. You could stay in Megève for $500/week. No car needed in France. Just take the lifts up to the mountain tops and hike around the prettiest areas in the world. Come back down at the end of the day and eat the best food of your life in France. Canadian food and nightlife is horrid.

Jasper is fucking amazing and a great place to roast marshmallows

Tell me more? Where do you stay in Megève?

Canadian Rockies are not really a great travel destination for most people wanting a mountain vacation. Canada just does not have the same level of services and amenities typical vacation type people want. Most people only really want a lake or a mountain top to be a 20 or so minute brisk walk from a nice comfy hotel. And they want restaurants to be close by. Also shopping, there needs to be a gift shop and a quaint local mountain souvenir shop with lots of turquoise covered jewelry.

What it does have is near untouched open wilderness with no element of human encroachment for the people that genuinely want to go the fuck away from every single level of civilization.and just be out in the woods.

The issue for Americans is that...why go through all the trouble to go to a foreign country to see their version of a thing that is already in the US where you can keep using US money? That amount of effort can be spent on going to a more interesting place like Europe or Asia.
