20-something decent looking nerdy American guy on a dry spell who'll be in NYC for a couple months this summer for work. Any recommendations for places to eat/drink/see and be seen? Is the gender ratio really as fucked for girls/easy for guys as they say?I might get a long-term posting in the city from this stint, so really want to see if it's all cracked up how it's supposed to be.

You are better off just going to a mid sized European uni town and money mogging everyone as an American, or honestly even a college town that isn't in the North East or other super wealthy area. It is "better" in the sense that yeah there is a good ratio but the cost ROI is not worth it. Also NYC just has a type of smugness in both men and women I don't experience anywhere else. Even eurofags are less annoying. All the guys are either Barstool normies or performative art fags and the girls are larping as Carrie Bradshaw. NYC is only worth it if you have a 150k+ salary job, even then your savings will be the equivilant of an 80k job anywhere else in the country. Its the only American city I feel that is actually dynamic and has fuck ton of things to do, but the price tag is not worth in 2026. Better off just prioritizing travel
