Everything ive read here and seen on Youtube about Manila indicates that its an unsafe shithole. The Philippines has great people, but even they are struggling with such high levels of crime and impoverishment. Theres no question about it, avoiding Manila is an easy choice for me. Bangkok is like a universe of fun in itself from what I've seen (yeah, i havent travelled much yet), but the pollution is pretty goddamn bad apparently, i get second hand nausea from all that smog seeing its impact on others. Can't imagine thats too different in most big cities, so hey, Thailand still wins. If I want beaches, I'll go to Surat Thani, and Phuket, and any of those islands. Philippines is an easy pass altogether, tho I'd love to try Lachong, and eat with the locals one day, they're just super friendly people, culturally I can't get on with some of the deeper tribal shit they're into, but thats not my problem as a foreigner. The Thai in their credit have a good grasp of western pop culture and hobbies. The fluency of English by most Philippines people is an obvious +++, as most of you probably already know. Thai food is again, another universe to explore, damn is it vast and tasty looking.
