Why is it that every time you ask people what there is to do in a city, all they talk about is restaurants, bars and museums?
>>2878372Why are you trying to "do" stuff? Lolwtf?
>>2878372Cities are planned to maximize efficiency, that means putting workers' homes close to their place of employment. They were never designed for tourists to have whimsical adventures in.Hence generally the only attractions you can see in a city will be restaurants, bars and museums.
>>2878372Its how cityoids cope with their forced diversity and $4000 rent; they get drunk all the time and call it "culture".
>>2878372it's probably because they recognise you as being yet another boring unsophisticated tourist with bland tastes. i could tell you a bunch of cool interesting stuff about my city but what would be the point
>>2878372Getting drunk is all city people know how to do
>>2878396No you couldn't, fartsniffer. There's nothing "le cool"Learn to cope with your miserable existence and face reality like a man.
>>2878401>fartsnifferok anon i see somehow you grew into one of those people who despite being actual adults still hasn't grown out of their playground mindset. not much point talking to you about anything. grow up a bit eh>Learn to cope with your miserable existence my existence isn't miserable, although i "cope" with it very well thanks>and face reality like a man.i would wager that my reality is very different from yours
>>2878372If you go shopping for durable goods, then you're gonna have to carry that shit around with you for the rest of your trip. So most people don't see shopping as feasible when traveling.>>2878398Getting drunk is more prevalent in rural areas, where people buy 12 beers at a time. When you're paying $10 for a single drink, you're going to sip it slowly.
>>2878407why do you come here and do this shit? go on instagram or reddit and perform your fake and gay life there. This is an anonymous board for unfiltered discussion. Cut the shit or get out
>>2878372Because that typically is what people do in a city.
Does anyone actually enjoy going to museums
>>2878451It's performative bullshit. They like to tell people they went to museums more than they like the actual content of the museum.
>>2878416>reeeeeeee muh sekrit clubdo behave anon>>2878451>Does anyone actually enjoy going to museumsyes, of course. actually visiting art, museums etc in other countries is one of the reasons i travel. not everyone is an uncultured mouthbreather anon. maybe if you learned to appreciate things a bit more you wouldn't be quite such a wretched miserable cunt
>>2878457To be fair, you have to have a very curated aesthetic to understand museums. The lighting is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of angles, negative space, and how to pose without looking like you're trying too hard, most of the exhibits will just end up as blurry backgrounds in your Stories. There's also the docent's nihilistic outfit—effortlessly monochrome, very Bauhaus—which is deftly woven into my carousel post. I don't actually read the labels, obviously. The fans—my followers—they understand this stuff. They have the intellectual capacity to double-tap a photo of me pretending to contemplate a Rothko while actually checking my reflection in the glass. As a consequence, people who don't post from museums are literally irrelevant. They wouldn't appreciate, say, the way a single gallery guard looks the other way while I reposition a stanchion for better lighting. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons actually reading a didactic panel while I'm three rooms ahead, already uploading the unskippable reel set to a slowed-down Lana Del Rey remix. What fools... how pity their engagement metrics. And yes, by the way, I DO have a museum membership. It's not even for the free admission—it's a soft flex in my "links" highlight. And no, you cannot see what's in my camera roll. It's 47 nearly identical shots of me touching my own jaw next to a marble bust. I didn't even note the artist's name.
>>2878459I think that maybe having sex and playing video games is the only thing that feels good in life. Staring at a painting is nice, but you aren't going to remember it later.
>>2878451>>2878455Museums are great, but not art museums. It's just a collection of random art that I could see online. My local art museum I have at home is literally all I need. Same applies to any science or natural history museums. They're all the same.History or cultural museums, on the other hand, are where it's at. Places you can actually see real artifacts and learn something new. Bonus points if it's a really specific niche subject.
>>2878460based. whatcha playan anon
>>2878463I play Red Dead Redemption 2 on the PC in order to simulate cowboy experiences. Then I watch illicit content in the Apple Vision Pro in order to simulate real world sexual experiences. In this way, all the necessary base instincts are gratified.
>>2878464bad tastes
>>2878465I haven't actually played the game in months. I just like to say that I play it. It feels good when I say it.
>>2878466based and performance pilled
>>2878459lol did you actually spend actual time in your life writing all that or did you get ai to write it for youeither way anon, you're pretty fucked up
>>2878476it's from a museum
>I don't like museumsGenuinely what the fuck else do you do while traveling?
>>2878489wtf do you do in a museum?
>>2878410>Getting drunk is more prevalent in rural areas, where people buy 12 beers at a time. When you're paying $10 for a single drink, you're going to sip it slowly.I live in Kansas and very few people drink here.
>>2878494well, the best museums are nice old houses where hey have rich wood paneling to admire and careful architectural detailsand if you are lucky they have some original furniture to seeI feel like the best architecture was sorta between 1870-1920 just after italianate died down (which was about veneers and not elaborate woodworkI like local art museums, there's a nice one in zanesville ohiobig city art museums can be crowded and overwhelming and the collections generic but in general small museums are niceI walked through a historic museum in monticello kentucky, it was an old hotel turned rooming house, and each apartment was a display of local effects, its a way to see what things people had 100 years ago, to read some stories, and also, small museums often have boomers volunteering who sometimes can direct you to interesting local sites like mills or swinging bridges>>2878532what else is there to do in kansas?also, I recommend browsing local art galleries, you don't have to buy anything, and it's freegift shops are free museums for the poor
>>2878372I don't understand the people obsessed with drinking in other countries. You spend your limited time and money to travel, and you just want to do something that will hamper memory and awareness? That you can do at home? Instead of doing literally anything else?
>>2878540wowie zowie wood panels???
>>2878548sometimes they get very intricate and you can see the natural graining of the wood and you can get very ornate shapessome properties imported artisans from europe to help with wood and stone cuttingnot every house has nice stuff, but some had a lot of effort put in
>>2878553NATURAL GRAINING!?!?!???
>>2878372The biggest noob travel mistake I made was staying in big cities too long. When I was in Seoul I was there for a week and couldn't wait to go home by the time I was done. For most cities 3 nights is more than enough.
>>2878563>one week>too longlol. you need at least 18 months to start to see seoul
>>2878459kek
>>2878372The joys of city life: watching sports, movies, plays, and other entertainment; arcades; internet cafes; concept cafes; pop-up stores; hands-on facilities; local product fairs; flea markets; amusement parks; super sentos; fireworks displays; Bon Odori dances; various festivals; sightseeing cruises; bike rentals; soaplands
>>2878416Haha anon, you are being entitled on an anonymous board. You are worse than a toddler.
>>2878451You can witness the blood stained uniform of Franz Ferdinand in the museum of war in Vienna. I am a veteran of The Great War YouTube series and I have to say seeing the bloodied evidence of the assassination that changed the course of world history was quite impressive. You can also see Dante Alleghieri's death mask in Florence in one of the museums but I forgot which one. Pretty sweet as an Inferno enjoyer.
>>2878460I remember l'origine du monde quite vividly.
>>2878372so is this thread just a hiking/fishing guy demanding to know why other people in the world do not also want to go places just to hike and fish? People have different interests.
>>2878416Good effort anon, but appeal to one's decency surprisingly never work for the "sophisticated types" which is something I find very disheartening about the world we live in.Perhaps it's all that fart sniffing they do in their lives that make them like this. You know, like methane balloons.>>2878451>>2878455Don't be like that. Acquiring knowledge simply to know is enjoyable. Makes biological sense even, if you think about it. Just spent two weeks in Croatia and I realized after coming home that the only time I genuinely smiled and wasn't stressed out was when I was visiting museums and historical sites. It's just fun.Granted, I am a sperg who is literally shaking from fear and melting every time he has a social interaction. Leaving my house to buy groceries is an immense effort of willpower every time I do it.I just travel despite all this because this is the only life I have. Knowledge is the main reason I push myself.
>>2880650>Granted, I am a sperg who is literally shaking from fear and melting every time he has a social interaction. Leaving my house to buy groceries is an immense effort of willpower every time I do it.Why? Push yourself
>>2880650>Granted, I am a sperg who is literally shaking from fear and melting every time he has a social interaction. Leaving my house to buy groceries is an immense effort of willpower every time I do it.it's weird that there are people like this in the world who still find themselves capable of talking shit about other people on the internet. i wonder what you would have done if the internet hadn't been invented just in time for you to use it. at least it spared the rest of us the effort of having to deal with you in the real world.
>>2880652Wdym anon?
>>2880664do some soul searching, ask yourself why and find a way to overcome it
>>2880676But I genuinely have no clue what you are talking about brother
>>2878451>Does anyone actually enjoy going to museumsI absolutely love going to >science>history>natural history>ethnographic or cultural heritage>open air>specialized / nichemuseumsart museums can be boring if you're not specifically interested in that stylebut even if notlike I never heard of anyone that didn't enjoy Claude Monet's Garden + Museum in Givernyjust your run off the mill local art collection museum is probably boring most of the time
>>2878372>Why is it that every time you ask people what there is to do in a city, all they talk about is restaurants, bars and museums?because you can easily look up the sightseeing stuff yourselfliterally every travel site, blog, video or whatever format mentions thosewhat is much harder to look upnice restaurants / bars, if the museum is worth it for your specifically or generally non-standard experiencesespecially when I talk to friends and family I know what they enjoy on a vacationand if they like to go to rooftop bars, I certainly will recommend the ones I've been tosame with museum or restaurants
>>2878451if it's something you have an interest in, they're fun
>>2878372what do you expect to find in a big city? you want to read a very improbable story about how to find satanic ritual sites, human trafficking safehouses, the source of all hard drugs?living in a big city forces you to learn how to navigate it, usually through very hard lessons and unforgettable mistakes. this isn't knowledge I'm unwilling to share, but if I tell you "go anywhere but here" and you're convinced that your adventure starts there, your body will show up in the news, and nobody wins. there is, however, an endless amount of travelling blogs presenting very interesting and safe places that exist FAR from big cities.>museums are boringgo visit the least famous ruins: lack of tourists means very friendly locals>people only want to get wastedgo visit the factories that produce liquors or spirits. small groups, very low bottle prices>restaurantscan't help you there. the best food I've ever had was in very small towns, far from the "mecca of X dish", and that isn't guarantee that you'll enjoy it>whimsical craplurk moar. not even I know about all the amazing sights in my country, and even by bus I've got some great pictures.
>>2882021>living in a big city forces you to learn how to navigate it, usually through very hard lessons and unforgettable mistakes. There hasn't been danger in this world for like 20 years. The villains and retards of yesteryear are addicted to their phones and to hard drugs that effectively neutralize their capabilities. Most crime is online nowadays. Instagram is more dangerous than the ghetto.
>>2878540>what else is there to do in kansas? Most people do church stuff a lot and volunteer to like coach their kids sports teams. My aunt and uncle run their business, he is a volunteer firefighter, they're on the town council, she supervises the county graveyard. My other aunt and uncle are a farmer and schoolteacher and he serves on the school board and constantly volunteers at the church for everything. My friend just spends all his time on home repair and building chicken runs and gardens and fixing broken shit like riding mowers and cars. The rest of the time is just watching sports. The worst thing about kansas is the lack of public land for outdoor recreation. I'm from Arizona though both my parents are from here, and having everything be private land fucking blows ass. I used to be able to just drive out to national forests every 3 day weekend and shoot guns and fish. You can still fish here but it's pretty gay and hunting is all private land though if you know somebody you can night hunt coyotes and do the obvious pheasant, duck, and hill crane, white tail, rabbit hunting. If it weren't for the horrific property tax kansas would be a good place to live if you just wanted to buy land and have a steel building for recreation as in woodworking or automotive or leatherwork etc whatever you want. You can get land cheaply and houses cheaply but you won't get the money back out if you renovate like you would in a sun belt state like Arizona. You could buy a complete piece of shit house in tempe, replace the floors, kitchen, bathrooms, and sell it for an extra 300k there.
>>2878548Nah he's right. They don't build like they used to. Modern houses are pieces of shit with fast growth pine, shitty unbreathable insulation, fasteners and zero jointery, drywall and shitty plastic siding. Old houses would have wood and plaster lathing, full wood paneling, and as he said hand lathed and carved decorative trim and brass cast hardware. Cool features like transom windows, actual cupolas and functional soffits for air movement throughout the house and in the attic. If you like carpentry and building methods that shit is very very cool.
