Dolly-Would Edition

>What is this thread? Why are there two generals?
/rcg/ was initially created as a way for the roller coaster enthusiasts on here to discuss all things roller coasters and theme parks. While roller coasters are the main focus of these threads (and the title of the general) there is also discussion on other theme parks, their rides, as well as the parks themselves and trip planning too. That's where /tpg/ comes in.
>Can I talk about Disney/Universal parks in this thread?
Absolutely! Disney/Universal discussion of all sorts including rides/resorts/dining/trip planning is OK.

General Rules:
1. Talk about Theme Parks and Rollercoasters.
2. There is no second rule.

I forgot to mention this here when it happened, but the Rest is History, arguably the best history podcast, did an episode on theme/amusement parks with a focus on Disneyland. They also did ann episode with Bob Iger as a guest and another focusing on Walt Disney himself. Highly recommend at least the Disneyland one to everyone here, although they’re all good.

Not him but most of their rides have rooms with benches near the ride dispatches. No bathrooms or anything but they do have water fountains. The one for Hagrid’s was playing Goblet of Fire on a TV when my group went.

I was just in Disney last week and Tiana was down for a few hours for animatronic problems.

I get some of the pushback on the iconic non-movie IP rides getting rebranded but holy shit do a lot of the "classic" rides for a Non-Disney Adult need a refresh. I hadn't been in 20 years and those old rides still just feel painfully old. The Norway ride being rebranded to Frozen didn't offend me in any way, and you do a ride like that and go stand in line for Pirates of the Carribean and boy would I not mind Pirates getting an update.

In general, if you're an adult taking your family to Disney World, do the fucking lightning lanes. We picked 1-2 rides per park that we absolutely wanted to do with Lightning Lane and we ended up doing 9 rides in Magic Kingdom alone through either LL or just hopping onto things with short queues. We never waited more than 12 minutes for a ride and my Preschooler was a happy camper for it.

Also, Animal Kingdom sucks and is a half-day park, don't let anyone tell you differently. I doubt I'll go back. If I had to have waited for that NaVi river journey queue at 70 minutes and THAT as the ride, shots would've been fired. How the fuck was that ride designed?
>>
>>2879833
>How the fuck was that ride designed?
Disney Imagineers do not possess the soul or creativity of the original Disneyland imaginer's. The new generation of creatives at the company fundamentally have been spiritually poisoned to their core due to America's cancerous terminal rot of a culture since 9/11. Everything they make at best is a simulacrum of a better age. They do not hold within them the spirit necessary to create It's a Small World or Pirates.

I hate and now refuse LL/fastpass/express. It puts anxiety on yourself to get more value from what youve spent. Plus at WDW there are maybe three rides that are worth the upcharge and average over 1hr line. Every other ride is mediocre or has a manageable queue you dont need LL.

Magic Kingdom is the biggest culprit for dogshit LL. Peter Pan and Winne the Pooh getting 60 minute lines is a joke. Im convinced its a very successful viral campaign by disney moms to cause demand on those rides as "MUST DO"s

Yeah, like half the fucking planet. imagine typing all of this out and still acting like theme parks are just corporate IP farms where every ride is either Marvel, Star Wars, or “remember that movie from 2003?”

There are parks out there actually building insane coasters and rides that don’t require a lore primer and a Disney+ subscription to understand. Parks where the main attraction isn’t standing in line next to a $12 pretzel and a family of 6 having a meltdown. But nah, (((you))) are locked in the content loop
>new retheme
>new retheme
>ride closed
>ride reopened but now with different hat

Riveting stuff. Like, bro at this point you’re not even reporting news, you’re just reading a corporate changelog out loud. Meanwhile entire parks exist where:
>rides open on time
>don’t get “temporarily” closed for 3 years
>don’t come back as the same ride but now sponsored by whatever IP tested well with focus groups

but those don’t count I guess because Mickey Mouse didn’t personally sign your autograph book. Keep posting your “updates” though. I’m sure next month we’ll get breaking news that a trash can got rethemed to Guardians of the Galaxy and you’ll write 3 paragraphs about the immersive storytelling experience. Faggot

just got back from EPCOT and I swear to God they moved ONE (1) trash can in the Japan pavilion like 3 feet to the left

nobody is talking about this

this completely breaks the historical sightline when you exit Mitsukoshi and try to line up Spaceship Earth between the torii gate beams (yes this was a thing, yes I tested it in 2019, 2021, and 2023, no I will not elaborate)

also the background loop near the koi pond is 0.25 seconds shorter now. not joking. the transition between tracks is slightly tighter and it RUINS the pacing if you’re walking at a normal 3.1 mph gait

and don’t even get me started on the lamp temperature change near the quick service window. it used to be ~2700K warm, now it’s like 3000K and it makes the fake wood look flatter. completely kills the illusion

I asked a cast member about it and they just smiled like I’m the crazy one

I have 47 photos from the exact same angle across 5 years. something is DIFFERENT

disney thinks they can get away with this because “no one will notice” but I noticed. I ALWAYS notice.

>>2879882
How would a trash can break the sightline when the exit, torii gate, and SSE are all in the same position as before
>>
>>2879779
I think way more people would want to have a dark ride or a walking tour of the Encanto house than any other type of Encanto ride. They just want to see the fancy themed rooms.
>>
>>2879833
Animatronics are really advancing now that anything built after 2015 or so just looks amazing and makes the wobbling mannequins of older rides look outright primitive. It also kind of sucks to see Tokyo and Shanghai get massively updates nicer versions of the tired old crap rotting in Magic Kingdom. And I know most of that Orlando stuff will never be updated at all since it's "Traditional"

ET used to be fucking amazing to see back in 1993. But now it has become one of those Simpsons jokes of a stiff mannequin thing wobbling left and right to poorly recorded sound.
>>
>>2879907
As long as it’s made by Sally, you know it’s gonna be good
>>
>>2879833
The entire Avatar area seems so half ass that it really looks like it was nothing but an executive mandate to have something movie franchise themed in response to Universal's Wizarding World additions.
But they never actually added some actual location from any movie, or had any specific attraction anyone would recognize. Just a single nondescript location of Pandora that just consists of two rides and a restaurant. Nothing immersive there at all. I'm not so sure the imagineers really understood the core concept of an immersive world area of a park.

I was not ready for how bad Incredicoaster was, both in theming and as a coaster.

Cautiously optimistic. This is their chance to prove they can still run with Universal and Disney, but knowing some of United’s decisions recently i’m not holding my breath. I will say that the Vekoma ride system looks amazing and no doubt they invested a LOT of money in it. If they use story driven theming it could be a game changer. Could be.

>>2879930
Not a big fan I hate to say. I think I’m just done with western themed areas at this point, even though Knott’s’ is very good. Ghost Rider getting 3 hour waits seems to me a reflection of what the park has to offer for thrills rather than how good it is. But I’m very thankful to them for keeping the hydraulic launch model alive in Xcelerator.
>>
>>2879932
What’s the best Western Park in America in your opinion? Knotts? Silver Dollar City? Dollywood? I haven’t been to any but I LOVE the Wild West theme and sadly haven’t been to a WW/ frontier theme park yet

Knott’s is the best I’ve been to. It’s almost the entire park. Dollywood doesn’t count to me. It’s a similar aesthetic but it’s clearly more of an east coast wilderness / country thing. Haven’t been to SDC yet but I’m going this year.
>>
>>2879933
Chat GPT said Frontier City but I’ve never been there so can’t say. Silver Dollar City is probably the most kino park I’ve ever been to. The entire thing is just pure sovl. Dollywood is beautiful and has a great lineup but, the other anon is right, it’s themed to NC/TN mountain towns, not necessarily Wild West. Never been to Knotts but it is in CA, so it’s got that going for it
>>
>>2879934
It’s bizarre. It’s just a pretty good wooden coaster. It’s not Voyage and it’s not El Toro and it’s not Phoenix. But I guess to the people who haven’t made it to Magic Mountain yet it’s the best coaster in LA.
>>
It’s always heartwarming to see 6 year-old girls at Disney who are obviously having the time of their lives. One next to me on Soarin’ named all the landmarks and said it was “the best ride yet” after. Her sister said she wanted to ride it 100 times.

This is the thing. Theming is a tiny expense when compared to the price of the ride system. Why would companies skimp on theming when they know how much it means to consumers?
>>
>>2879971
Georgia’s original theming was doomed from the start considering one of the park sections was the Confederacy, but they gave up on it long before they needed to. The French and British areas weren’t given any good themed attractions. The also dropped in Superman where it didn’t make sense and ninjas have nothing to do with any of the themed sections.

>>
>>2879975
I very much so refuse to admit that plaster and stucco and tiny electronic motors are expensive…
>>
>>2879971
Theming mattered in the 60s, then theming really did not matter in the late 70s-late 2000s as part of the coaster wars. But now theming, quality of experience is everything in the theme park game, especially how much it shifted to the resorts. How everyone can see a park update the day it happens so they know how lame it is compared to other parks or poor quality it is means they cannot hide behind a locals only knowing their park bubble
The ones that focused on making a park pretty or having good food are being rewarded handsomely, even those regional parks who do not go for the top level theming in the resort parks. The ones who did not make this a priority (especially Six Flags parks) are paying for it
>>
>>2879976
It’s maintenance costs, not initial costs. That’s the reason why Universal leaves broken animatronics for literal years
>>
>>2879855
>worth the upcharge
That's a lot of words to say you're poor.
It's not a conspiracy, it's just capitalism. With the reservation system giving Disney accurate projections of crowd levels, they can now adjust their manning to reflect the day's attendance. However, that means the staffing and ride operation is always scaled, so there are never any "slow days".

For instance, in the 90s, if there were 7000 staff for 35000 guests, a lot of rides and restaurants would be short queues or walk-ons. But now, it doesn't matter if you're going on a 45000-guest day or a holiday-rush 80000-guest day. The ratio of lanes, cars, and cast members will be adjusted to a standard level of busy-ness.

I know it would cost money Universal doesn't have, but I wish they would refurb and update E.T., and to an extent greater than Disneyland's efforts with Peter Pan and Snow White.
>>
>>2879976
Disney is known for getting a brand name success tax, and Universal is starting to but nowhere near the same amount yet. Because they are Disney and are the big titan with hundreds of billions, contractors upcharge them for their work more then they would other clients since they know Disney can afford it and since everyone is doing it Disney does not get much choice
This is how Legoland can make a Guardians equivalent coaster for 1/12th the price
>>
>>2879977
Another thing is that coasters from that era have aged like shit, if not in ride quality then in how much they draw the public. Think of all the record breaking coasters that suck today. Arrow corkscrews and loopers, old Vekomas, wooden coasters that aren’t given a shitload of care. Most of the only coasters from the 70s-90s that still draw are the ones with good theming like Thunder Mountain and Space Mountain.
>>
>>2879984

I really would like to see how Cosmic Rewind cost $500m. If there is a breakdown out there please post here. I cant understand it, even reuses energy pavillion building.
Whereas Hagrids looks like $300m spent; a 5000ft+ track with 7 launches, animatronics, area (quarter size of the park) is landscaped and over 1000 trees replanted. But then the queue looks like they went cheap "just make it an endless cave lol"

>In general, if you're an adult taking your family to Disney World, do the fucking lightning lanes.

Depends on when you go. Summer? You don't even need to fuck with Lightning Lane these days. If the heat doesn't kill you, then you can just walk from ride to ride. Maybe rope drop Tron and Guardians.

Holiday weekend? Min-max that shit to the extreme. It's the only way to get on double digit rides.

We went during the height of Spring Break, the kind of day those crowd calendars say to never go. Still did double digit rides in all four parks except Animal Kingdom (lmao at it having like 4 rides).

>then theming really did not matter in the late 70s-late 2000s as part of the coaster wars.
Zoomer revisionism. Six Flags parks had good theming until the latter 1990s when the parent company was starting to make plans to divest the parks. Six Flags was on par with Disney theming until the early 80s.

The theming for Viper at SFOG was said to have cost more than the ride itself. Even in '94/'95 Six Flags was still putting millions of dollars into theming new attractions.
>>
>>2880028
They were worth it when Disney had genuine quiet periods. Now it's just "busy" and "incredibly busy" with dubious accuracy because they don't take into account how some dates move around or change what day they're on. They are at least good for reminding people to avoid peak summer and close to xmas.

At some point someone will come up with an AI calendar which also recognises "on this week Encanto will be opening so forget animal kingdom" type events and "christmas is on a Wednesday this year so the weekend before will be hellish.

That ride starts out pretty great though. The flying through the movie was a huge part of why dark rides like that work. It just sort of turns into Fraggle Rock when you go to ETs planet. I'm not really sure that was what Spielberg envisioned and it seems a little weird he signed off on that.

Yes, the price probably exceeds the quality. But the economy's in the shitter and you shouldn't be poor and going to Universal or Disney. It's not about "bragging".

If a multimillionaire spends thousands of dollars for a single meal at an upscale restaurant, I might think it's wasteful or silly, but it's not inherently boastful to disclose the price. They just don't place much importance on it, since it's comparatively a little amount. If someone who makes around 6 figures spends $34 for basic shrimp fried rice, that amount of money won't register as a lot.
>>
>>2880100
I think from the get-go it was incredibly obvious the entire premise of the show was him having to take care of Grogu while having to also deal with dangerous bounty hunter shit. Great concept that they could have done a lot of fun stuff with. The problem was that after one season it turned into a parade of LOOK IT'S AHSOKA LOOK IT'S BOBA FETT HOLY FUCK LOOK IT'S LUKE SKYWALKER instead of just doing its own thing. They were cowards who didn't believe in their own show so they stuffed it with references and callbacks and old characters, which is the exact thing that is killing the franchise. Instead of coming up with anything new it just regurgitates what we already know.

The prices aren't a problem for the "paypiggies". The "paypiggies" aren't complaining about it, or even noticing it. It sounds like it's only a problem for the poors.

Spielberg has always been carried by the people around him.
Except for maybe Duel, which was almost a one-man-show.
His producers, screenplay writers, and even set designers kept him in check for most of hig biggest hits like Jaws and E.T., but he's not a lore guy. Note that Spielberg has NO franchises other than Indiana Jones, and Lucas kept him in check there.
He did not understand the E.T. story at all so we get weird-ass faux-Latin-named aliens like Botanicus.

This. I hate how faggy and gay HHNs is now. It’s not even trying to be edgy or scary anymore, just more IP slop to draw in the normies, many of which just visit their IP house of choice take their pictures and leave. Hence why, even in its less than its prime state, HOS still consistently ranks higher year after year for scare factor. Personally, the red light district filled with vampire hookers at Seaworld is my absolute fav scare zone in the entire world. I say that as a huge Blade fan who happens to be Dutch. HHN would never have shit like that, it would scare away the Disney adults and the PG crowd.

I'd like to know the overlapping area of this venn diagram that the exec are trying to appeal to.
What percentage of prospective HHN attendees have more than a passing interest/familiarity with Fortnite, don't mind that anything Fortnite won't be genuinely scary, but also have disposable income and enjoy horror?

It's like the suits are sub-100 IQ normies that think "oh...Fortnite popular? Popular means money! Put popular IP in HHN." without realizing to understand any of the causal relationships between those things.
>>
>>2880121
HHN is the single most unpleasant experience available in theme parks, I have no idea why anyone would go to this overcrowded shitfest
>>
>>2880299
>It's like the suits are sub-100 IQ normies that think "oh...Fortnite popular? Popular means money! Put popular IP in HHN."

FNAF changed the game last year and held consistently >2hr lines for the entire event. It's also a merch juggernaut and was the only IP that didnt have its shirts discontinued when the event ended. Children asking their parents for things they like is a very powerful economic mover. Fortnite makes total sense. The kids that played it when it first came out are in college now and perfect HHN age. Dead By Daylight is inevitable by the same standard.

>>2880300
The issue is HHN is untouchable in the haunt industry. No other company can put 10 houses together with individual budgets around 100k each and still turn a profit due to demand and logistics of venue. They know their product is the industry leader and they know retards will pay $500 just to attend with express. The only saving grace for the average attendee who wants to just buy a ticket and go without extreme hassle and 6 hours of waiting in lines is total economic collapse or HHN getting so big it has to be expanded into Islands to spread out demand.
>>
>>2880302
>2 hr lines
>merch juggernaut
Fair enough. I guess even if there appears to be a small segment that would find ALL elements appealing, as long as they're willing to visit and buy shit, it will be profitable.

Funnily enough, I guess that logic could apply to Fortnite itself. The studios seems to be pissing of the core gaming audience in favor of paypiggies who buy all kinds of slop pop culture character skins.

>>
>>2880380
They already did that, just not in the same year. Jack has had mazes that referenced Oddfellow before he was revealed. Oddfellow's maze directly referenced Jack. It's been a long time coming for the two of them to "fight", so no I disagree. I dont think you understand the storyline HHN is trying to build.
>>
>>2880386
You have a maze each of them setting up base and ending with it calling them out, there's your story.

They've had characters involved in multiple zones/mazes in the same HHN before
>>
>>2880389
The calling them out part already happened. Oddfellow's house would just end up being identical to his circus house from 3 years ago. Why extend the confrontation even further? Just get it over with.

Also I kinda hope the leak is wrong because I was really looking forward to any resolution on the Boris Shuster plotline with the totems. It'll probably just be the store theme again.

For anyone else considering taking a lap infant to Shanghai Disneyland, would not recommend for infants unable to sit independently. The only ride we were able to babywear was "Voyage to the Crystal Grotto" and it was only on the whim of the operator (we rode three times, two were okay with it, one was a stick-in-the-mud).
It's a nice park otherwise as long as you don't mind the blatant consumerism. There's like 3 places to eat and 2 places to shop for every 1 ride and I still find it annoying they place shops at the ride exits but ah, capitalism.

>>
>>2880516
To some extent. The houses have some of the best set design in the industry, but due to large crowds, the scares are very conveyor belt. There are basically no interactions between actors and guests in the houses and limited interactions in the scare zones. The number of houses is higher than you'll find elsewhere, but unless you buy Express or know what you're doing, you probably won't see them all.

As someone who works in the haunt industry and is also a theme park autist, I love the event. I've learned how to navigate it to avoid long waits and maximize my entertainment. However, I honestly think the average normalfag would have more fun at a solid local haunt.

>>2880121
Looking at this again, it is thankfully NOT posted by a reputable source. I thought it was Horror Nights Nightmares at first (who have a great track record) but rather some other dude who has been putting out shitty spec maps. Maybe we'll be safe from Fortnite after all.
>>
>>2880516
The actual houses are world class and I don't think any other haunt can touch their level of detail and quality outside of like Netherworld. The downside is they are conga line houses and constantly ushering you forward so you miss a great deal of the design, only spending maybe 2 seconds with any specific element. Normal haunted houses will segment the line so you go into the house with a 1 minute gap between you and the group in front of you so you get all of the scare actor attention focused on you and you can see more. That's really the major downside with theme park haunts. The lines are also a complete nightmare.

I hope it's fake. I also hope this is the year they decide to do 12 houses in response to the absurd crowds.
>>
>>2880578
I'm suprised they haven't considered doing a trick or treat family friendly one Epic Universe to spread the crowd out and eat some money from Disney's stupidly popular version.
>>
>>2880578
I'd love that, but I doubt it'll happen. They're experimenting with opening some houses very early this year, so they're already upping staffing costs, and I doubt they'd want to add the costs and logistics of two more houses on top of that.

Seconded. It is a great spot to grab a drink, especially around sunset. I’d say it’s my second fav place to grab a drink inside a theme park other than the bar at SeaWorld inside the shark tank where you have sharks and sting rays swimming around INSIDE the bar top itself. Nothing comes close to topping that for me. Then again, I fucking love sharks and fish

Another good one you'd like is the Octopus Bar at T-Rex at Disney Springs. Back when I was a full blown alchie, I spent many an evening there and regret none of it.

While not at the same level, it def looks nice. I’ll have to check it out. Speaking of Disney, I used to love the aquariums at Rainforest Cafe where you could walk through them in tubes. Sadly, I heard they took them out. I guess they were too much maintenance and Disney adults don’t appreciate all the care and work that goes into keeping real sea life happy and healthy

ACTUALLY, now that I think about it, I think that specific aquarium might by why Disney doesn't really bother with aquariums anymore. The seal between the plexiglass burst open and dumped out all over the floor a couple years back.

If we're being cynical it might also be because ipad kids dont get dopamine by looking at fish tanks anymore. Not enough visual stimulation.

Up to this point in the ride, you're just taking in the creepy atmosphere before you see any ghosts, except for this one with his digital projector screen head. I hate it.

Yeah, I get why that would be an issue given the story pacing and plot of the ride. Leota's ritual or whatever is what makes the ghosts become visible to you and the throw off the balcony is what makes you a ghost.

The Tron coaster would be fixed by having the load station be really secluded and quiet with the ride OPs being women dressed in tight white latex suits checking your restraints. I didn’t even realize Madame Leota summoned the ghosts. I thought they revealed themselves after feeling the screams of the guests like the narrator says.
>>
>>2880876
She doesn't "summon them". She makes them visible to you. They are just as active before the seance with the footprints on the staircases, pianist shadow, breathing doors, etc.

Then you actually die in the story, you are the 1000th ghost. The bride kills you by throwing you off the attic balcony which is why you flip around and look up at the stars while descending down into the graveyard. The whole ride is a storytelling masterpiece which is slightly diminished by putting the fully visible hat box ghost pre-leota.

Yes, but it's worked into the story, or was. The ride has had several changes over time. The bride kills you and the party in the graveyard is for you. You round out the total number of ghosts in the house to a clean 1000. iirc she at one point was holding an axe and there was a swing and hit sound as you passed by before you fall into a grave.

The song even alludes to your death in the lyrics. It refers to it in the future tense, as does little leota at the end, so it's unclear if it was just a hallucination

>If you would like to join our jamboree
>There's a simple rule that's compulsory
>Mortals pay a token fee
>Rest in peace, the haunting's free
>So hurry back, we would like your company

What's Falcon's Fury like? It made a splash when they finished it but you hardly ever hear anyone mention it now. I've heard it's down a fair amount. I'd love to ride it and afaik it's the only prone-drop tower Intamin has built.
>>
>>2880990
I’ve never ridden it, but it has a reputation of being arguably the scariest drop tower due to being very tall and making you face the ground. It’s down a lot because Busch Gardens Tampa had the worst ride maintenance in the world. They don’t keep spare parts so every time one fails they have to order it from Europe.
>>
>>2880990
I’ve ridden it and it honestly made me almost shit my pants. Makes Dr Doom look like a kiddie ride. When you get to the top and it moves you so you’re straight down and the holds you there for a randomized amount of time. For someone who’s afraid of heights like me, it’s prob the scariest ride I’ve ever been on. Would recommend 10/10

It kind of is to me at least. Blasting off from the bottom is fun but less scary than a slow ascent and dropping. I'd go on FF even though drop towers are the only truly intense rides to me.

I usually pass on those S&S air shot towers though, once is all you need really. The only one really worth doing is that one at the stop of the Stratosphere tower in Vegas. Dr. Doom is fine if it's a walk-on otherwise it's just a time waster.

A lot of it just came down to cost. Rides with real fire, huge water effects, hydraulics, gas lines, all that stuff are insanely expensive to maintain every single day. The safety features necessary to use fire with an automated ride system are absurdly layered and pricey. Screens are cheap by comparison they don’t need plumbers, fuel, or constant repairs, and there's zero risk of people burning alive. You just turn them on and off. Universal figured people would eventually accept less impressive screen-based rides if it saved money, and honestly they were right. They're bigger than ever and most people have no idea how objectively better the park used to be, nor do they care.

At this point rides like Revenge of the Mummy and Spider-Man feel like the last holdovers from the era where Universal was all about practical effects and disaster-movie spectacle. Even those two severely cut back on the amount of fire compared to like Jaws, Kongfrontation, EQ. Spider-man is kinda the missing link between the screenslop and fire eras.

Monsters Unchained is a step in the right direction, obviously.

I would think the addition of a Cars Land in Magic Kingdom would have clued everyone in that Cars as a major headlining franchise is not going anywhere anytime soon.
>>
>>2880879
I would think that goes against the hitchhiking ghosts at the end. You leave the mansion and other ghosts ride along with you to haunt you afterward.

>>2881062
I would have assumed executives were mandating a new fresh IP for everything and Twister being a lone nothing of a movie from 96 was not nearly as important as newer IPs. The franchise opportunity being Waaay more important than the ride itself. Which is how we ended up with a lot of lazy screen rides. They need something that pushes a IP and moves merch more than they want a fun family experience that attracts vacationers. And screen rides are incredibly quick and simple compares to the practical effects, resource intensive nightmares of the regular rides that always need water sprayers, fire, carts that go places, tracks made to wobble around and shift, etc.

went to Thorpe Park yesterday, first time for the year.
my thoughts
1. one of the filthiest parks Ive been. An absolute joke. Dont know what they do in closed season but it doesnt involve a vacuum or cleaning equipment
2. the paths are in dire state and needs some major work doing in some places
3. advertising a new tarmac area as "new for 2026" is amazing
4. the rides are pretty great especially Nemesis Inferno
5. Hyperia is a modern coaster is a joke and averages 800ppl/hr. The theming is tv screens giving a 20 second clip of its construction. its all a bit Blackpool Pleasure Beach to me, a bit tacky (BPB is amazing btw and has its charm, Thorpe is supposed to be a theme park)

Some Six Flags have better coaster lineups overall than Kennywood but that’s it. Kennywood still feels like a family park like Knoebels in a lot of ways. It’s now owned by Herschend who are family owned. The ops are generally kind and upbeat and there are historic rides all over the place. Great set of coasters and flats, including many flats you can’t find anywhere else anymore (Kangaroo, Auto Race, Noah’s Ark, Turtle).

Merlin not putting in a ride every other year is frustrating but understandable but their park upkeep is shameful.

Alton Towers is in need of a non-kiddy ride and Thorpe Park needs a family ride/coaster. Thorpe Park hasn't built a new family coaster since 1996 (and even that now has a horror theme). Legoland is getting a Mack Spinner at least (clone of spinjitsu at other parks) .

Paultons Park seem to be doing really well. A Wild Swing (family version of a topscan) and a Eurofighter opening in a week of so with a water coaster opening next year. Apparently their ops and customer service are good too.

At some point, are you just going to admit that you're WILDLY exaggerating, or disclose your reasons for doing so? 4-5x....50x....? Come on, are you a little girl with no objective concept of money? Or are you from a developing country where your estimation of value is just unreasonably derailed by how cheap everything is there?

The food's fine. It's naturally overpriced, and it's nothing gourmet. But it's perfectly fine.

Depends on where you go obviously but some places are genuinely very good and not Sysco slop. Last time I went to Tutto Italia at Epcot for example I had honestly some of the best lasagna I've ever had. I was shocked by the quality. But then you have places like Mama Melrose or Tony's and they both suck. The basic American fare across the parks is overall pretty solid though for what it is though but I do love a good "ballpark" style burger or tendies.

>evil retarded faggot Jeff Vahle is pushed out
>no posts about it
He was literally THE GUY ruining WDW. Almost all of their insane decisions can be traced directly back to him. Today should be a day of celebration that maybe, just maybe, Josh knows what he's doing with the parks
https://www.wdwmagic.com/other/walt-disney-company/news/11may2026-walt-disney-world-president-jeff-vahle-announces-retirement-after-36-years.htm

>insane decisions
Can you give some examples? Having had no experience with WDW.
>>
>>2881477
Removal of rivers of America is the biggest one. He had been pushing it for years because he didn't want to do the maintenance required to keep it going. He pushed for Splash Mountain to be replaced, raised prices and cut substantial amounts of entertainment/value add services, and massively decreased the amount of money of they spend on general maintenance. For WDW autists he's enemy number one. Even Iger who hated the parks had to step in and reverse some of his decisions (like charging hotel guests to park). Mickeyviews despises him and that means something because he's the only Disney influencer that has any actual real insider info.
>>
>>2881478
Wow that's a pretty extensive laundry list. Glad he's exiting stage left then, hope his replacement is truer to Walt's dream for the place.
>charging hotel guests to park

Yes, that's why I asked the question whether things were so bad in France that young people are emigrating to Orlando of all places to work at Epcot for minimal pay.
I'm aware Paris is a demographic shithole, but other places across the country still seem nice. I'd assume that, even if pay were low there too, at least you get healthcare, public infrastructure, and are surrounded by (mostly) French culture instead of sweltering in an oasis surrounded by MAGA territory.

purely anecdotal, so feel free to dismiss, but I've experienced the exact opposite. Multiple All-Star stays in the 2010s had trash outside the rooms from school trips, cigarette smoke, and bathrooms that were just slightly dingy.
At Universal: Cabana Bay, Endless Summer (Dock and Surfside), and Aventura in the late 2010s-now have been pretty nice, minus all the Brazilians at Cabana. All newer and better priced than anything at Disney now.

In my opinion it's the prettiest castle park there is, so yes. Some of their versions of classic rides are different enough to feel like their own thing (and are fantastic), but the park hasn't received anything new in like over 20 years, so it's starting to show its age. But if you haven't been, I think it's definitely worth going at least once.
Studios fucking sucks tho holy shit. At the very least wait until the Lion King ride is there before even considering it.
>>
>>2881538
It's good but it's the weakest of pretty much every over Disney park (except maybe Hong Kong). Despite that, it has the best overall selection of all the classic rides and the best BTM. Disney Studios is still weak with not enough rides but it's slowly getting there, when the Lion King opens it'll become a genuine whole day park.

The castle park night show with the drones was incredible but they've removed the drones now (possibly because of refurb work, possibly because the other park has a drone show).

The park food is terrible. There are very few proper themed options, few interesting options, it's like going back in time and having park food from 20 years ago. If you eat, try the buffets, especially the Hunters grill which has a bunch of game options and raclette. Remy's is also good.

The big thing though is it's cheap. You can have 3 days in the park for 2 with Disney hotels for £800 total (sometimes including the ferry)

Huge Cedar Point update
They have gotten shorter seat belts for Millennium Force which has changed the allowable weight to ride
If you are a size 34 (around 160 pounds) or larger you will not be allowed to ride
>>
>>2881692
I'm not familiar with the clientele of Cedar Point, but wouldn't this eliminate a large percentage of people who would otherwise ride?
A guy could be, let's say, 5'11'' and 180 pounds without being a lardass. But that would be too fat for this coaster?
>>
>>2881693
Allegedly some people with 34" waists couldn't fit this year. That's crazy. I don't really understand why they would shorten them up, they were already among the shortest of any coaster and between the g-forces and restraints, accommodating larger riders than that really should not be an issue at that ride.

Apparently the issue is really affecting dispatch times, 3-5 minutes isn't uncommon now because they've also cut back loading dock staffing.
>>
As usual nothing came from the Kings Dominion/Fiesta Texas rumors

Less riders or longer load times = less dispatches = saving costs on operations for the day and most guests trapped in line further saving costs

One other thing people have mentioned about Millennium Force's seat belts: The operators have to buckle it themselves now. If you buckle it they will unbuckle it and buckle it back. Intamin's seat belt buckles are bad about getting clipped in wrong (just out of plane) and they will click in, but it's not fully buckled. That combined with smaller dock crews is leading to unacceptably low throughput.

The buckles should be more toward the center of the rider than down at the side and really, Intamin should give up the ghost on their shitty proprietary buckle and just use the standard buckles every other ride uses.
>>

I think coasters 200' and up should have a cart like that. Practically speaking, evacuating a train from 300' up with only stairs is going to be a very time consuming problem and just walking down that many stairs will be unpleasant for people, especially for coasters with steep lifts like dives. Being able to send people up and down in a cart is just going to be a lot easier and faster for everyone involved.

>Have you guys noticed the RMC rattle? It's really bad on SteVe :/
>>
Every manufacturer has at least one coaster I would consider rattly. The reason B&M gets shit on is because all of their coasters since 2023 have a rattle instead of just some. It’s especially jarring since they were once synonymous with smooth rides. Montu and many other inverts mog year old B&Ms in smoothness.

They’ve been cutting costs to save money since their old-fashioned (at this point) models don’t command the high prices they used to. Word is they do this by asking for lower tolerances. I suspect this is why they do most of their business with China now. It’s a match made in heaven.

I think Knoebels and Kennywood are A tier parks, not S tier.
>>
>>2882056
God I loved that thing as a kid.
>>
>>2882077
Knoebels is S tier but I get why you'd rank it as A if you don't value old/vintage rides as much

If you want an example of how Vahle is/was uniquely bad, Galaxy's Edge shows how DL and WDW handle the exact same land, with the same upper management. California's has 2 nighttime shows, fixed the cannons on Rise, added the John Williams music, and brought in OT characters (and even before that a lot of characters were DL only). Meanwhile WDW's Rise has most of its effects broken a lot of the time and the whole land has pretty much had no changes since opening.

I do value them. I rode Rock-O-Plane today and it was a blast. It’s just hard for me to shake the thought that, at its core, it’s just a fancy family fun park old rides. Enjoyment of Knoebels is restricted to people who can appreciate the quaintness and (paradoxically) the novelty of it.

Take Flying Turns. They bill it as the only trackless roller coaster in the world. That’s wrong of course. There’s another one as close as Virginia. What it is is the only wooden trackless roller coaster in the world. They spent many years building it to mimic the old wooden trackless coasters, and the result is… fine, I guess? The best part of it is the quaintness and novelty, but I don’t think it stands that well on its own.

>Flying Turns
Talk about stuck in development hell lol. I kind of remember when they were building it. They were doing it all from scratch so they had to learn some painful lessons in the process, like a 1-step-forward-2-steps-back deal for years. They finally got it going though, good for them. I haven't been on it but it looks fun enough, nothing crazy just something different.

Operationally I wonder if they wish they could take back the money and time they put into it and build something else. Low capacity and a short track really bring down what may have been a very unique, "worth the extra drive" attraction.

Talked with a cast member about it when I went last week. The reason you can't spin freely anymore is so they can allow lap-sitting for families. You weren't able to do that before when you could spin the car. They may be testing it out to see if wait time optics are better or not. It may return, it may not. I'm still pissed about Jessica Rabbit though.

Paulton's Park opened their first inverting coaster today. Not Earth shattering but it's the first Eurofighter built in a while, looks fun and it looks a good "Step Up" coaster. Here's hoping newer Eurofighters are smoother.

They even have their own Butterbeer rip off; a "Golden apple" drink with butterscotch foam. Adding UK's first water coaster next year. Wishing them a lot of luck, nice to see a company putting effort into a UK park. Hoping that Universal opening actually gives them a boost from people having theme park holidays.
>>

It is a pain. They have to weigh everyone at the loading dock and put them in order of weight. I doubt they would take it back. It seems exactly their style - taking a ride out of the ancient past and giving it to the present.

What makes them S tier to you? I just remembered they have shows some days, which is great considering admission is free. On the other hand, they rarely run two trains on their headliner coasters.

stuff like this makes you money and brings different crowds to your park. Parks, even Disney, are forgetting that and focusing only on a big ride at the end of the path.

The animatronic "muppet" looks soooo good.
What are we thinking bros? Is this demolition of Muppets 3D + RnR retheme still all a waste?

>>2882190
Yes.
>>
>>2882190
Avengers Flight Force had a great animatronic too and ended up being an embarassment of a retheme.

Don't think there's actually much changing in the ride itself, think it's still all the same card cutouts.
>>
>>2882193
Considering it closed for 3 months max and Disney work at a snails pace, I’d agree much hasn’t changed

I saw a video of the Pokémon theme park. They stuck bad drawings in the grass and used the same exact buildings used by Nintendo Mario Land. When I said something about it one of the weirdos who love that franchise said "don't come then".

It shows the power of merch and why IPslop is here to stay. Moms buy tons of winnie the pooh shit when they have babies. It's really just merch from top to bottom. Theme parks are malls you have to pay 200$ get into when you really think about it.

I actually agree it's lackluster and not nearly as strong as Port of Entry. Port of Entry is dripping with soul and with Celestial it really just feels like a public park in a downtown area with a slightly crazy budget. I'd actually say how mid celestial is might be the biggest problem with Epic and causes a lot of the other issues such as lines and crowding. People are only in celestial to pass from portal to portal or eat. Rides probably isnt the solution nor possible, but they could give it a walk-through carnival of the cosmos vibe that encourages people to stay there.

I remember when my family went to All Star Movies in 2013, our mini fridge was unplugged with a maintenance tag wrapped around the cord. We took it off and it worked fine, and when we talked to other people in the hotel, they had the same thing. That plus the AC turned off during the night since it was motion activated, so I can't imagine they're any better now. I've stayed at Endless Summer and Stella Nova, and I didn't have any issues, but just my experience.

I think you guys really overrate port of entry. It’s no main street usa. In fact I’ve never had the desire to hang around the port of entry. It just seems like generic adventure area.
