I (M33, Eu) want to try a nomad lifestyle. I’ve had a quite hard time for a last few years and I really need a reset. I work fully remote (8am-4pm utc+1) and I thought about Vietnam for a few months, but is Sri Lanka worth considering as a destination?
I think SL would be the better choice if you surf or want to learn surfing. If you forced me to spend a month or more in Sri Lanka, without the freedom to travel far from reliable wifi, I'd probably spend most of it drinking and fishing. But for most people 'Nam is definitely better for a long-term visit. Much better food, a little cheaper, better expat scene for socializing with whites. Cities are much less shitty. Closer to other places you might want to travel.
How about the locals? Are they really as open and friendly as YT vloggers say? Is it really possible to make some friends there, or they are rather distanced? I'm not a weirdo, I know how to behave and I respect others, I am just curious if they really let you got closer
