RIP Fun Spot Atlanta and ArieForce One Edition>Last Thread: >>2886860Summer season is now on!>What is this thread? Why are there two generals?/rcg/ was initially created as a way for the roller coaster enthusiasts on here to discuss all things roller coasters and theme parks. While roller coasters are the main focus of these threads (and the title of the general) there is also discussion on other theme parks, their rides, as well as the parks themselves and trip planning too. That's where /tpg/ comes in.>Can I talk about Disney/Universal parks in this thread?Absolutely! >>2892860This park was doomed, and I'm shocked they got that coaster at all, but I'm very glad I got to experience it. It really was a great ride.
>>2892860I wish I had taken better advantage of it. I only live 3 hours away. There will be other top 20 coasters in the world, and there will be other coasters you can stay on for hours without missing a single dispatch, but there will probably never be another coaster that is both.
Alright guys, I think I've finally cracked the code and have found the perfect itinerary for a European theme park trip next year. We're going to fly in and stay for three days at Efteling (first day barely counts because we'll be so tired) then we'll do a half-day at Walibi Holland and then drive to Phantasialand. We'll stay for two days there, and then drive to Plopsaland Germany for another half-day, then drive to Europa Park and do two full days there. I think it works out really perfectly. We have two days at the major parks, while squeezing in shorter days at smaller parks on the days where we're traveling. If you do it this way, you're actually never driving over two and a half hours at a time. I don't think the pacing can be much better than this.
>>2892889Sounds pretty great. I'd include Plopsaland Belgium though if I could.
>>2892892Yeah, that's the one thing I'd feel like I'm missing out on with my current plan. Ride to Happiness looks amazing. I just don't know how the family would feel about adding time for it just to get on one ride. Plopsaland Germany, we're just going for one ride too, but that one is right on the way to Europa Park so stopping there just feels natural. I think in 2028, the German park will have a clone of Ride to Happiness, but obviously that won't be there next year, so that would be the one thing that it kind of sucks to miss. Maybe we could think about squeezing it in, but if we can only get to five parks, I'll still be satisfied.
>>2892860Legitimately considering booking a flight just for this and SFOG (which I haven't been), someone talk me out of it bros
>>2892896I don't know how you're doing financially, but if you can afford it, it's a coaster that's worth experiencing, and SFOG is a really good park. The lineup of coasters is very well rounded. And there's other stuff you can do in Atlanta. It's got the biggest aquarium in America.
>>2892896Why would we talk you out of it? SFOG has short lines on weekdays (except for Superman) and AF1 has short lines pretty much all the time.>>2892897Disagree on very good. It's fine, but it's run very poorly right now, which shows up in operations and aesthetics.
>>2892904Maybe I just had an especially good day, but I was impressed when I went a few years ago. I thought it looked pretty nice and I had a good time on the rides. None of them were 10/10 coasters, but I didn't think any of them were bad either. Staff wasn't Disney level, but I didn't have any particularly bad experiences with them. And the Monster Mansion ride is so special. I think it's a really solid park overall.
>>2892908It looks pretty bad outside of good landscaping right now and the Gotham area which they redid recently. They’re generally considered to have the worst ops in the industry right now. One thing I noticed when I was there last week is that the rides just shut down during the 5:00 shift change. I walked onto Superman (with my fast lane) which had an hour long wait, but I sat in the seat for 10 minutes while about 12 ops organized themselves. Meanwhile everyone in line baked in the sun on a 95 degree day. Never seen anything like that elsewhere.
>>2892942Alright that's pretty insane.
If that faggot does his gay little Disney shrubbery update I’m going to kill a nigger
>>2892892How brown are these parks? Do Europeans actually go to them or do you get there are realize you’ve made a massive mistake? I’m not going to fly to Europe only to end up in a third world country
>>2892860At least the full metal RMCs look like they'd be really easy to disassemble and move to a different park.
>European theme parks>Good quality>Amazing food>Great staff and dispatch times>Great atmosphere>That magic feelingvs>American theme parks>Literally just B&M's on a huge parking lot

>>2892982Looks like an amazing ride
>>2892877>only live 3 hours awayOof, that makes for a 6 hour journey if you make a day trip of it.
>>2893012If he does it on a weekday he should be able to hit everything at SFOG without an issue in just a few hours. It would be a long, tiring day but it's possible
>>2893013Fair, I'm just a fat pansy who's turned off by:>waking up early enough to complete a 3 hour drive before the afternoon>standing, walking, and riding coasters in the hot sun, followed by a 3 hour ride home
>>2893018At least you admit it. Props to you, tubs.
>>2893022I tip my fedora to you, good sir
>>2893018Another problem is getting through and around Atlanta, I'm sure you know how that can be. I live about the same trip time from Fun Spot. I've never been and I'm debating on whether or not I should brave going through Atlanta to ride AF1 before it closes. I'm honestly not sure if it's worth my while, I hate going through there. How much do they charge for an all day pass? Their ticketing site is offline, looks like AF1 is $12 per ride.I don't have any interest in going back to SFOG, there's not much that's new there from the last time I visited the place in 2012. The Gold Rusher "coaster" looks lame and Twisted Cyclone just looks gimped. It's unreal that the last good coaster they got was 20 years ago with Goliath, and even then it's not that good. About the only thing I'd be really interested in finding out is how Mindbender is since Premier did all that work to it but again, just not enough to get me over there considering how bad their rep is now (and it was bad then, too).
>>2893032I went before and I don't remember what the day pass cost, but it was worth it to ride AF1 as much as you want. It wasn't bad. Also they charged $10 to park, but they also give you a $10 card to use in their arcade. It's honestly a pretty sad little park, but with an amazing coaster, and go-karts if you like that.
>>2893023<3
Has anyone been on Hulk? Looks scary. :(
That ghostbusters retheme rumour for rip ride wasn’t completely stupid as long as they did something interesting like building a giant state puff marshmallow statue and have the tracks go around it

You could really improve your updates by including a broader balance of news - as it is now, it looks like a post ripped straight off of a Disney forum.
>>2893032Used to live in Atlanta, there is no good way around town. The town is set up to force you onto an overly crowded 6 lane interstate no matter what. You either slowly slog straight through on 75/85, or you slowly slog through 285, which always has WAY more accidents on it making more traffic at all times day and night.
>>2893012Yeah I guess that sounded more doable in my ahead. >>2893018Actually I don't need to get there before the afternoon. I got to Six Flags at 3:30 last Thursday and did every coaster but Dare Devil Dive, Scorcher and Gold Rusher (closed), including Twisted Cyclone and Goliath 3 times. Then I moved over to Fun Spot and did AF1 15 times. Then I got home at midnight.>>2893032I don't have to get through at Atlanta. I'm a Bamafag. You can ride AF1 as many times as you like for $35 I think. Gold Rusher is awesome though and Twisted Cyclone is adequate. Mindbender is meh but in my opinion it was always meh. The best part of it is having almost no restraints despite inverting twice.

>>2892996These closures had less to do with the temperature and more with the very intense storms that followed. Efteling had a some of fallen trees and branches on some pathways they needed to remove afterwards.
>water ride at a minor park is getting a cool simulator element which will only be the second one in existance>the actual drop is stilll tiny and pathetic.Such a shame. It is neat how water rides are having a mild resurgence at the moment though.
>>2893189They definitely ramped up the wetness on Popeye. Previously you used to normally get soaked but could get lucky. Now they filled the ride with permanently on water elements that will get every single person in the boat.
>>2893253Funny, I just rode Ripsaw falls and I swear you get lkke a split second of airtime at the little hill after the large drop. Felt it in my stomach.
>>2893253>It is neat how water rides are having a mild resurgence at the moment though.Imo it's because a lot of original/first generation water rides are aging out. Tons of log flumes, shoot the chutes, river rapids, and splashdowns were built in the 70s-90s and they're getting old, but people like water rides so the market is there for the companies that build them.Tbh I don't like most of the modern offerings. In particular that one by Mack I believe that's a "boat" which rolls on a track underwater and can rock and twirl. Maybe we just haven't seen what the ride system can do, but POVs of the one I have seen looks lackluster (it's somewhere in Europe). Enclosing it would be an improvement. Maybe the one Dollywood is getting will be better. Those power splash coasters like what SFOT and SFOG and some others have just look like gimmicks. Fun once I suppose. Speaking of which, SFOG's (made by Intamin) won't reopen until 2027. Looks like it needs a completely new train.I think the river rapids rides aren't going to be replaced in-kind though, at least not on a 1-for-1 basis. They take up a lot of real estate, need large crews, use a lot of electricity to run, and are relatively expensive to maintain - not to mention that the industry's insurers have a dim view of them because of several high profile accidents resulting in fatalities.
>>2893257That's literally an airtime bunny hop. People always assume you get those sensations from going down fast when it's actually about sustained downwards acceleration at ~9.8ms^2 . It's always counter-intuitive to people who never took physics that the weightless sensation starts as you're still going uphill.Loggers leap at Thorpe Park had an incredible drop due to it being a 'double' drop, you felt like the boat would go flying off the hill. These kinds of drops on flumes weren't massively popular as they looked milder than a straight drop but they've been replaced with bunnyhops at the bottom which still look imposing whilst giving you the pop of airtime.Only other double drop I still know of in Valhalla. On a related note, I just saw the log flume episode of American Dad. They actually researched it, I wasn't expecting Nightmare Niagra to get name dropped
>>2893168>katie will lose her virginity to someone who isn’t you soonwhy live
>>2893259Gold Rusher uses water?
>>2893263I took physics and I think that’s wrong.
>>2893301Holy shit, it doesn't even get you wet. I just assumed since it replaced Splashwater Falls and had a pond around it, it was some kind of water coaster like the Mack ride at SFOT. It never was an interesting coaster to me so I'd never really watched a video of it. Makes it even gayer>>2893168>>2893296Stop simping
>>2893303It's all about acceleration anon. Doesn't matter how fast you're going, what matters is how your velocity changes. It's one of the reasons powered coasters (especially Arrow ones) are so reliant helixes and turns, because they already tend to be near max speed so a large drop would be forceless once you've crested.

>>2893048Hulk is great but it gave me a raging headache for a solid 20 minutes
I was on Carousel of Progress yesterday trying to get my last ride on it before they butcher it, when allegedly a power surge caused by an intense lightning storm practically shut down the entire Disney World resort.Ride ops tried to get the show back on so we started to watch the same scene again. Ultimately the carousel wouldn't spin so we all got evacuated anyway. For like an hour at least there was practically nothing to do in the park, all the major attractions were affected and queues were closed.Ironically, this happened right as I was in the 4th of July scene in which a major punchline is that a bunch of electrical fuses pop. The audience was laughing a lot with the added context of the ride itself having problems (John's head stopped moving, right side turntable got stuck mid rotation so you could see both scenes).I tried riding again later once things started coming back online and sadly the ride didn't recover well. Audio was desynced pretty bad throughout the entire show and the turntable that got stuck was simply disabled.Sad way to send it off but oh well.

>>2893438its okay in terms of general atmosphere, theming, magic feeling and family oriented kids ridesBut I think Europa Park is superior for adults, it's much bigger, has better thrill rides and more coasters overal and more too.
I don't get why Efteling is so highly rated. Seems almost a bit overrated but maybe it's because i've been there a lot. They only have 2 coasters that are maybe a bit worthy, but they are short as fuck and over before you know it.>Pythonclassic looping coaster, it's okay I guess especially with the retrack and comfortable trains>BaronA tiny dive coaster with 2 inversions, 6seat rows, over in 30 secondsAnd that's it.The dark rides are okay>Droomvlucht>Symbolica>Fata MorganaBut that's literally it. Not really worth the time and money unless you are just trying to cross it off your bucket list I would recommend going to Europa Park instead it's basically Efteling on steroids and they have at least 10 fun coasters with 4 very big and good ones.>VoltronThis ride alone almost makes it worth the visit already>Silver StarVery high big for European standards>Blue firesolid launched inverted coaster>Wodan Good wooden coaster>Eurosat can canNice indoor coaster with amazing atmosphere>BobsledClassic bobslec>Euro MirrAlso nice indoor coaster, a bit dated and will go away after this year>Arthur (if you count it as coaster)>Many water coastersBut this park is just so massive and everything is nicely themed and the operations are godlike, they keep sending trains, it's so fast and perfectPhantasialand i've never been to but I heard it's great too, will be my next trip, but they only got 2 good coasters (Fly and Taron) so it feels a bit smallI'd say for top 3 in Europe it would be based on theming alone1. Europa Park2. Phantasialand (from what i've seen online)3. EftelingIf you look at coaster line up I think Walibi Holland also makes a good spot
>>2893535Also i'm planning a trip to EnergyLandia maybe in 2027 which also has some solid rides (Zadra and Hyperion) but the rest of the park is kinda weird and filler It's kinda sad that after Europa Park not many theme parks will top it. Like it feels like i've done the best one already. How it feels like after finishing one of your favorite tv shows. A feeling of emptiness. That's how good it was. That it's actually sad it's over and not a lot of theme parks will top it anymore. Need to save up for a huge trip throughout the US but yeah as an Europoor this is a costly endeavour
>>2893535Disneyland only has 3 legit coasters, all family oriented, and it's still America's best park. I haven't been but I figured Efteling was Europe's version of Disneyland (I think they even point out a lot that they were founded first). You're the first person I've heard say their reputation isn't justified.
>>2893537I legit think Europa Park is much better than Efteling in almost every way, size, coaster line up, dispatch times, atmosphere. The rides the Efteling has are nicely themed though especially Symbolica and Droomvlucht but Europa Park is at least just as good and just has so much more.I'd say Europa Park is Efteling on steroids and might even be better than Disneyland (although i've never been to Disneyland so just based on what i've seen online)
>>2893535I do know that Efteling doesn't have a ton of great coasters, but I'm okay with that because the theming looks so great, and I'm totally down to just explore the fairytale forest leisurely. Thankfully I'm planning to hit up all three of the big parks on my trip, so I'll get the best of all the worlds, but I'm really looking forward to the dark rides at Efteling as much as any of the coasters.
>>2893539Yeah I agree you should at least visit it once, maybe I sound a bit pessimistic because i've been in Efteling like 5 times and Europa Park only 1 time recently. It's definaelly a nice bucket list park. Btw Europa Park also has a fairytale forest close to Arthur.Which other parks you hitting?
>>2893539>>2893540Oh you probably mean the 3 Europa Park, Efteling and Phantasialand>Efteling could be done in 1 day>Phantasialand could be done in 1 day (I think)>Europa Park you ABSOLUTELY NEED TWO (2) DAYSIt's just too big, unless you wanna haul ass and run from queue to queue and then you have no time to discover all the small and nice thingsI went for 2 days and it was absolutely needed. First day I would just do all the big ones just in case, second day is more relaxed still doing the big ones but also discovering a bit of the rest of the park
>>2893438Been going here since I was a kid. God-tier park. If you're more of a coaster person you will still probably prefer parks like Europa Park or Phantasialand, their coasters are objectively superior, but if you can appreciate dark rides and theming this is one of the best theme parks in the world.>>2893535>doesn't even mention Joris en de DraakHow dare you that one rules>>2893542Efteling can be done in one day but only on a slow day, otherwise you're just speedrunning the coasters and most notorious dark rides, but you'll be skipping over a lot of the park and most likely never even stepping a foot in the fairy tale forest, in which case why the fuck even come here? Imo Efteling is a park best experienced by slowing down and taking in all the sights, which is really hard to do if you only have one day and you've never been. Last year I took some friends to Efteling for the first time, and they agreed two days is probably best if you're a first-timer.

>>2893713Universal has a few individual areas that are better than Disneyland but no complete products. Celestial Gateway and Paris or whatever it is are badly themed. Lost Continent sticks out like a sore thumb. Seussland is always in need of a new coat of paint. Sight lines at Islands are awful.
>>2893714Islands isn't about sight lines. It's a grab bag of lands. You're not really supposed to be unable to see across the lake.
>>2893715Hence its inferiority (in part).
>>2893715And don’t get me wrong, Epic and Islands are #2 and #3 (in that order), but both are a tier below DL (and at least a tier above every other American Disney property.
Why can't Magic Kingdom build this?
>>2893728Prohibitively expensive to wrap something that big in rockwork or a giant box.
>>2893717To be fair DL isn't the best when it comes to sightlines either, IMO its main strength is the large amount of "middle ground" rides, most other major parks give you E-tickets and flat rides with nothing in between
This shit is going to have the worst line.
>>2893753I'm glad it's there, I think it'll be cool, but it being a shuttle coaster is kind of disappointing to me.
>>2893728Disney enjoyers (alpha male Chads) don't like parking lot coasters
>>2893731Its major strength is literally everything. It’s effectively a perfect park. Its only flaw is being too successful for its own good (crowding).
>>2893756It’ll also be the second shuttle coaster in three years, why did they do it like this?
>>2893769Well, the Flash coaster was supposed to go somewhere else, and bringing it to Great Adventure was a last minute decision. This upcoming coaster has probably been in the making for a while, but it is unfortunate that it comes right after another shuttle coaster.
>>2893753I just don't get the overlong straight inversion.I thought the point of stall inversions were that you'd get righted just as you feel you're falling into the restraints. At least when topspins do sustained upside down that they're deliberately trolling you.
>>2893753Maybe for the first monthGreat Adventure does not get much attendance now outside school visit days and Halloween events. Even Flash has been a walk on with even worse capacity so I think the capacity issue is overblown
Is Six Flags St Louis any good? I am wanting to make a 5hr trip out to Silver Dollar City, and my route takes me through St. Louis, so I am thinking of breaking up the drive with a trip to Six Flags. But I have never seen the park talked about at all.
>>2893768Lol what? Its strength is it is fun for kids. As an adult, the park is lacking good rollercoasters. I would take Cedar Point over Disneyland any day.
>>2893753Why the fuck do people keep building shuttle coasters? Single trains just mean 2hr queues.
>>2893837The same reason you built them in RCT. They were cheap as fuck and still popular.
>>2893836Cedar Point sucks though. It's a barren empty lot with coasters of extremely varying degrees of quality. Only like 4 of them are truly unique or good. Maverick, MF, Steel Vengeance, and ?????? TTD I guess?
>>2893864 >Nooooo you can't just have a lot of rides I need shops for my Rey Skywalker laser swords and animatronics of my favorite super heroesHoly shit.
>>2893834I like it. It’s kind of shitty but it has some unsung coasters. Reverse Flash is one of my favorites and I like all three woodies, including the Boss (get front row).
>>2893836Notice how in order to criticize Disneyland, you had to judge something that isn’t there rather than something that is there. This isn’t the case for Cedar Point. We can talk about its shitty ops, horrible guest relations, mostly bad theming, bad ride uptime, bad geography, and ugly aesthetics in much of the park all day. We can talk about what Cedar Point offers that sucks rather than what it doesn’t. This isn’t the case for Disneyland.
>>28938645 now with Siren’s Curse. But yeah 5 good rides in the entire park is kind of pathetic.
>>2893877>>2893836Forgot the very long ramp-up period for CP. They’ve really sucked the last two Mays, opening well before many of the rides are even open or they have enough staff to run them.
>>2893877>guest relations>theming>aestheticsHoly shit you are actual faggot. If having a statue of Spiderman next to the queue line is that important to you, stick with Disneyland I guess.
>>2893893Holy shit you are actual faggot. If having a megagigahypercoaster next to an uncovered sunburnt queue line is that important to you, stick with poorfag parking lots I guess.
>>2893877>>2893907Just admit you're a pussy and utterly terrified of big rollercoasters/thrill rides. That's what the basis is for your derision of regional parks. You'd never go to one because you know you'd have to challenge yourself and it's easier to stay in your hugbox park.
>>2893912Disney fans will complain about rides being copied between coasts while thoosies will ride the same coaster models that only come in one track layout and pretend they're different in any meaningful way beyond what basic theming the regional park can afford to give it.
>>2893912I'm a pussy and utterly terrified of big rollercoasters/thrill rides. Parking lots still suck, and you're still a poorfag with no taste. I better not catch you at Sea World or Busch Gardens either. If I see you, I'm gonna waddle over and slap the shit outta you.
>>2893926> I better not catch you at Sea World or Busch Gardens either. If I see you, I'm gonna waddle over and slap the shit outta you.Based and waddlepilled
>>2893893Not everyone enjoys being in ugly places. Most don't in fact.>>2893912Cedar Point isn't regional. Both its workers and its guests often come from other countries. Unfortunately, its appeal isn't wide enough to actually charge for admission. My brother got in twice in May with his gold pass he purchased for $55 from SFOG last year. If he went to a quality park he would have had to spend money.
The final piece has been installed.
>>2893944I'm interested in how this ride turns out. If nothing else it's going to be extremely unique.
