RIP Kumba Edition

>Last Thread: >>2892860

>What is this thread? Why are there two generals?
/rcg/ was initially created as a way for the roller coaster enthusiasts on here to discuss all things roller coasters and theme parks. While roller coasters are the main focus of these threads (and the title of the general) there is also discussion on other theme parks, their rides, as well as the parks themselves and trip planning too. That's where /tpg/ comes in.
>Can I talk about Disney/Universal parks in this thread?
Absolutely! Disney/Universal discussion of all sorts including rides/resorts/dining/trip planning is OK.

General Rules:
1. Talk about Theme Parks and/or Rollercoasters.
2. There is no second rule.

Yes, you neglected to post any news/updates from parks that aren't Disney or Universal. This is /rcg/+/tpg/... it's not just for Disney/Universal.

Holiday World is really tapped into what coaster enthusiasts like. They don't already have an RMC, and if they could get a good price on AireForce One, seems like it would be a no brainer to buy it in my opinion.
>>
>>2897921
Thank you.

It's infuriating when I see people post anything not pertaining to Disney and Universal parks. Why the hell are they in this thread? If they like roller coasters so much, they should start their own general.
>>
First week of August ill be in Florida for work and Orlando will be a 4 hour drive from where I'm staying. Will have the opportunity to do Universal for 2 days. Am I gonna be miserable with the heat and crowds
>>
>>2897925
Not that it couldn’t be painted over but the red and blue would go well in the 4th of July section, which is currently lacking. The park needs a top tier steel coaster.
>>
>>2897944
You will be miserable from the heat, but thankfully there's a lot of indoor areas that blast AC. Get yourself an all day drink cup and drink constantly. It's very worth it. If you only have two days you might consider looking into Express Passes to make sure you get on everything.

Fun Spot is a park that has to be seen to be believed
People say a lot of words about it but nothing will prepare you for the first view being a rusting kiddie coaster on grass while Arieforce looms in the background. People who go just to lap AF1 are really missing something because the combo with the sheer jank of the rest of the park is what makes it great for me
>>
>>2898066
I didn't ride the janky coasters because I got sick from the tilt-a-whirl first. Rode AF1 though. Really cool ride.

B&M supremacy
>>
>>2898096
And now that B&Ms are as well there’s no financial reasons for the poor people chains (Six Flags and United) to collect them anymore. You could get a way better coaster for the same price.
>>
>>2898102
That would be surprising. Fury and Copperhead Strike stand out. Hopefully they don’t purchase mediocrity for their next big coaster.
>>
>>2898111
People say it would be perfect for the old Nighthawk plot, and honestly it would be, since that's the first thing you see as you walk down the plaza into the park, and visually it would be a good place for one. But there's other kinds of rides that would interest me more.

SFOG thoughts:
Very good park, better than MM imo. Monster Mansion is pure kino, Batman is its most intense and best themed version, and Goliath was my first B&M hyper so I got shocked by how comfy the restraints were.
Have heard bad stories about its ops but luckily the park wasn't busy enough for that to matter. I can see how it would be terrible on a weekend though. They liked to banter with each other and riders which is fun when the trains are empty but probably excruciating when there's an actual line
>>
>>2898153
Hell yeah, I love Over Georgia. I also went on a non-busy day, and that wasn't an issue except they were only running one train on Goliath. Otherwise I would've ridden it more times. I don't know how common that is. But the park looks really nice and all the coasters are good to great. Really well rounded lineup.

Forgot to mention that the Cedar Fair-ification of SFOG is in full swing, Fast Lane everywhere and a ton of signage is in that Cedar Fair font. They're even installing the wait time monitors that other CF parks have

Fun thing about Arieforce is that after they close the line they let riders stay on as long as there are still people waiting for the front row. So the legend of being able to do multiple laps without getting off is still true, as long as you're there at the end of the night.

Big Dipper had a rollback and detailment, fucking up all the wood that serves as a failsafe. Same thing that happened on the Scenic Railway in Margate that ticketmaster used as an excuse to close it for good.
>>
>>2898301
It looks really good and I hope to ride it someday. I like the twisting drop, I wish we could get more hypers and gigas with that. That coaster used to be ranked really high among enthusiasts, it's just been overshadowed by so many newer rides considering it's 25 years old.

>>2898324
Damn. I'm glad everyone looks to be ok. Considering the angles of the cars it seems like it could have been much worse.
>>
>>2898328
Almost certainly looks worse than it is. It's designed so that if it does derail like this then the wheels get jammed up in the broken wood in the middle and serve to both stop the train and keep it centred so it doesn't go flying off.
>>
>>2898269
Did they? I thought he and Jack just had their house and scarezone. I would love if they were a bit more present, because I think Oddfellow in particular is cool. Thread pro tip for the next op: If you're driving between parks during the day always check what it's like at the park you're headed to. Carowinds closed early for thunderstorms so I could have spent a lot more time at SFOG than I ended up doing

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=80vxiV0kbvQ

Looks a bit slow but it could just be the scale of the ride, layout also doesn't seem as interesting as I thought it would be, it's a bit too functional in ferrying between the big two elements. I feel there are going to be a lot of stalls/rollbacks on those too, wonder if it'll do a swing launch if that happens.
>>
Reviews are saying it has some cool forces but isn't quite as intense as they were hoping.

Seems obvious but the impression I get is GotG with full drops and inversions but much weaker launching and no theming/atmosphere (good views though). Some people calling it a family coaster which a bit shows how out of touch thoosies are but they were calling it Cheetah Hunt Mk.2

From deep beneath the darkened sea, an ancient serpent rises. Ascend the spire and split the sky on Bakunawa — the fastest and tallest spinning launch coaster in the world. Inspired by Bakunawa, a legendary creature of folklore, this coaster reimagines the serpent’s coiling ascent as it attempts to devour the moon. Feel the pull of the eclipse as you launch through the world’s fastest inversion, reaching speeds up to 100 miles per hour. After spiraling 382 feet into the air, you plummet back to earth, spinning to the shore as Bakunawa returns to the sea. Experience the world’s first floorless spinning coaster, the world’s first upside-down launch and more aboard Bakunawa — only at Six Flags Great Adventure.

Until now everyone through the trains would be the Ride to Happiness type ones with the floor and barrier in front
This is floorless. You are going to have feet dangle 380 feet either directly down or directly up
>>
>>2899522
When that thing is spinning on the overbank and you're looking straight down nearly 400 feet with nothing underneath you, that might be the most terrifying moment on any ride.

Why did losers say this thing looked boring again
>>
>>2899525
Most thoosies will just bitch about anything. We all miss Ka, and Six Flags didn't do the public any favors by anouncing its closure the very last minute, but this looks to be a suitable spiritual successor
>>
>>2899510
Wonder how restrictive they'll make the spinning. I feel two skinny guys & two fatties would make for a ride an order of magnitude more intense if they don't have some braking system.
>>
>>2899525
There were about 3 to 4 max coasters on the planet that people would bitch about if replaced by this and they replaced one of them

Is that the world’s longest stall? Gotta be longest in the US, beating AF1.
>>
>>2899552
Is it going to really be a stall though? A good stall "catches you" just as your body weight starts to go into the retraints I don't think that's going to happen here and you're going to be dangling upside down getting your balls/stomach crushed for a second or two.
>>
>>2899554
I thought a stall was just you’re upside down for longer than a normal loop, roll or corkscrew.

>>
>>2899557
It's an extended upside down section but it should feel like a stall in an aircraft (hence the name) rather than just dangling you
>>
>>2899570
Obviously it would have heavy thematics based on Maleficient and it would be the objective best coaster on the planet and cause Universal to suicide
>>
>>2899571
Will it have one of those things like Mr. Freeze where they can load one train while the other one is on the course?
>>
>>2899575
I would assume so but the capacity will still be low. I'm not complaining because it's a really cool idea/ride, but it's just merely a factual statement because the lines will be longer than long cat

I always compare it to the scene in Lawrence of Arabia where Lawrence puts out a candle with his fingers. Somebody sees him do it and decides to try, he says "Ow! That hurts, what's the trick?" And Lawrence says "The trick is not minding that it hurts."

Roller coasters are thrilling by design. You're supposed to be intimidated by them. I've ridden a bunch of coasters, and I still get a little jittery on a really tall coaster. But I know in my brain that I'm totally safe, and I can enjoy the anticipation of getting onto the ride, going up that lift hill, and then enjoying the intensity of the first drop.

So ultimately, you can work your way up to the biggest ride in the park, you can learn about all the safety features that go into building roller coasters, but at the end of the day, the jitters aren't going to go away until you actually ride the ride. You have to just accept that feeling and ride the ride anyway.
>>
I sincerely do not get how you could be actually terrified or even phased by these coasters like the new Six Flags one but are perfectly fine with this Halloween Horror jumpscare shit
>>
>>2899590
I actually find the jump scares more annoying than anything. I mean, after you've done it me or two houses, you understand the formula and you know where people are going to jump out. I found myself just wishing they'd leave me alone so I can just look at the cool sets.
>>
>>2899591

They're so-so. I've only been on Mamba at Worlds of Fun but the ex-CF Morgan hypers look similar. The first and second drops are good, the helix turnaround is fun (best headchopper I've seen), but after the middle block brake the ride is just a boring series of bunny hills that don't do anything. Back rows are the place to ride.

I few years back, I really got into roller coaster despite my extreme fear of them. I've ridden a couple, but its been over 2 years since I last ever ridden one. I want to get back into riding, but I still feel a lot of anxiety about riding coasters. Any advice on how to overcome this fear?
The most extreme coasters I've ridden was Mystic Timbers at King's Island and Storm Chaser at Kentucky Kingdom.
>>
>>2899716
>>2899583
The key to getting over this is just to ride coasters. Start small and work your way up. It’s called exposure therapy. Your fear and anxiety are worse than the ride itself. Once you actually get on them you’ll realize the fear is unwarranted.

I can attest to this. A year ago I was afraid to ride Candymonium because of how tall it was. Now my favorite coaster is Top Thrill 2.
>>
>>2899716
I still appreciate coasters, the engineering and the theming, but health issues prevent me from riding them.
>>
>>2899716
I think probably it's the height that's getting to you. I would just think to myself that the same restraints that work near the ground also work up in the air. If you trust the lap bar on Mystic Timbers to hold you in your seat, the same principles apply to a giant coaster like Orion. I'd say go back to Kings Island, do the smaller coasters that you know you can do, and then work your way up to Diamondback, and then Orion. And just remember, nobody's going to pull you in and force you to ride the coaster. You're just going to have to face your fear. I get it because I was horribly afraid of coasters when I was younger. My family had season passes to Dollywood, and I'd watch my dad and my brother ride Thunderhead, Mystery Mine, and Tennessee Tornado, and it took me forever to work up the courage to finally ride them. But I'm so glad I did because I love roller coasters now. While I still get the butterflies when I'm going up a really tall lift hill, I'm not afraid of coasters anymore and I want to ride as many as I can.
>>
>>2899716
What part scares you? Height? I personally find swing launches terrifying.
>>
>>2899729
Honestly, what >>2899726 said about heights, but I also get this general sense of anxiety when I'm at the entrance of the queue. Like, I get this feeling that once I enter the queue, there's no going back and leaving it. This only happens on rides I either haven't rode or haven't ridden in a long time.
I've pinpointed these two as my problem since indoor coasters like the Mummy at Universal Orlando is something I ride multiple times in a row when I'm there.
>>
>>2899625
>>2899666
After years of riding Steel Force, I expected Fujiyama to be like this, but then the second half of the coaster was more intense than the first half. The weird bunny hills at the end completely took me off guard. Genuinely my second favorite coaster in the world.
>>
>>2899734
I understand the intimidation that builds up once you enter the queue and you're getting closer and closer to the front of the line. I'd kind of try and think of it like a horror movie. You want to be a little scared, right? You know in your brain you're totally safe, but sometimes it's fun to be a little bit nervous.

Mummy is an amazing ride. Next time you're at Universal, I'd love for you to try Velocicoaster. And just remember that the same lap bar that keeps you safe when you ride Mummy will keep you safe on Velocicoaster. This might sound funny to say, but if your lap bar failed on Mummy, you'd get pretty fucked up even though you're close to the ground. So it's actually not rational to trust the lap bar when you're close to the ground but not when you're high in the sky. It's the same concept, and these rides are built with multiple failsafes, so the amount of things that would have to go wrong simultaneously essentially makes it impossible anything bad will happen. I say just let the butterflies in your stomach flutter and enjoy this amazing ride.
>>

tormenta was a walk on today, got in 4 rides. they're still enforcing assigned seating so I never got the back rows but the front left side has some fun leg-chopper moments.

once you get acclimated to the height you get some really enjoyable views of the park. you can tell they put a lot of thought into where the first drop was pointed.
The sense of speed is incredible, it's better than Titan. if you have any moisture on your face you can feel the wind drag it across you skin as if you were a drooling retard. Unfortunately I am starting to notice how short the ride is. Titan, the other "tall coaster" at the park feels twice as long.

the final brake run is so fucked with the stop and go you can hear people yell out "who's driving this thing?"

also, the funicular cart on the chain lift is air conditioned lol

I think it is going to flop generally.
Locals are still pissed at Ka and the removals, while the park is still seen as poor quality by the public even if they are cleaning up now, while is reputation is the typical Six Flags low-tier for ghetto trash resort. And this ride is going to be seen as way too intense for people. They are going to see the spinning and say nope to even showing up let alone get there and the rest of the park is not drawing them anyway
This is going to be a thoosie favorite, perhaps a top 10 ranked ride worldwide, but it will flop with locals and GP. And being a thoosie favorie does not save a park.
>>
>>2899984
I partly agree. It'll get thoosie praise (already is) because influencers wouldn't risk not being invited back to exclusive events. I don't think the spinning will turn people off that much but it could end up being Pantherian 2.0... a one-and-done ride for many. Personally I think spinning coasters are gimmicks.

Six Flags is still going down the road that put them in the poorhouse, just plopping in new rides and ignoring everything else.

The theming was cozy old school frontier theming that Walt used to have all over the parks before liberals infiltrated. The place was happier and friendlier. Truly wondering why you say this if you're referring to theming. Putting your bias against the movies aside Avatarland does an excellent job bringing that world to real life.

Raising pass prices for one. One of the main reasons that "demographic" is so prevalent at Six Flags parks is that the pass prices are so cheap.
>>
>>2900581
They tried to raise the prices before and revenue went way down. B&M is just ruthless on parks.
>>
>>2900581
That's a problem because at parks that aren't CP/KI, the value isn't there to justify the price increase to everyone else. Not only is the company not making money, but they're faced with a situation where they would need to spend years and at least a billion dollars bringing their parks up to a better spec, and that amount doesn't include new rides. They're just fucked from their own cutbacks over the last 25 years. I don't see a way out for them.
>>
>>2900409
What do you plan on doing there? One day will be more than enough if you're going there for the coasters. If you want to do everything else, I would recommend two days.

Bit of a shame the same layout is at 4 parks now but I guess if it ain't broke...

It's neat they've moved away from putting huge drops and giant horseshoes in family spinners now and found you can have a fun forceful layout without making something look imposing for the age group. Reasonable options for Aireforce (not looking into if they have land for it right now which might exclude some parks)
>Enchanted Parks
This would be the highlight attraction of the entire chain. CEO talked about being interested in this ride. If this went anywhere it would probably be Mid-America since they talked about that being the flagship. Worlds of Fun and Valleyfair are possible but reaching
>Six Flags
Has the scale to buy this but would probably be one of the 10 focus parks. The easiest relocation to Over Georgia will not happen since they have a RMC. Carowinds is close and could do it. Great Adventure needs another highlight attraction bad as part of its rebuild. King’s Island does not have one nor does Canada’s Wonderland. Knotts does not have the space and the rest of the major players have a RMC
With any of these options need to work on capacity concerns
>Seaworld/Busch
They have payment issues with RMC so they cannot buy one direct, so if any of their other parks are going to get a RMC this might be their only chance
>Fun Spot
The wildcard is they actually keep this and move it to Fun Spot Orlando. I feel if they were going to they would have announced this by now
>>
>>2901055
They've been making money from it for years and it's likely coasters are classed as deprecating assets so it's likely there isn't any meaningful tax write off to be had.

Selling it will probably get 1/4-1/3 the cost back and the demolision will be done for them.

>>2901062
It's probably not a significant amount more to get it shipped on a boat somewhere compared to taking 100 trucks across the country so it doesn't need to be limited to US parks. Apparently RMC's restraints aren't compliant with UK law so won't be coming here.
>>
>>2901057
The real life inspiration isn't quite as bad but I imagine it's still pretty constant noise (plus there's a train line before the trees). Late night opening in the Summer with fireworks at 10pm. At least the grand national and Nickelodeon Streak (the two woodies near the terraces) aren't late night opening.

There is a reason why Blackpool is one of the most deprived places in the country.
>>
>>2901062
Carowinds would be great since their coaster lineup is so extremely uneven and they could use another great ride. I also do like the idea of making it the first big edition to Mid-America under new ownership, and adding a world class coaster like this would be a massive first step into making that park what they want it to be.

was at Blackpool on saturday. that park needs to wake up in funding more staff on the rides or get rid of the ticket scanning process on every ride. people dont know what theyre doing and end up in the front row queue for icon while the other rows go empty. Ride staff dont give a shit and load up a half empty train. Meanwhile they were begging for people to go watch the hot ice show. Think Amanda needs to abandon her pet project for a year or two and focus on getting staff working better

Also Im getting very tired of british youtubers constantly looking the other way when it comes to blackpool. big dipper derailed last week? silence. annual pass perks are almost fuck all? silence. but the new flat ride is treated as the second coming. If Alton Towers were ran like this these youtubers would be making daily videos slamming the park
>>
>>2901168
Eh, not a fan of some of her decisions (fuck the Wild Mouse closure) but she is trying really hard to keep the park open and to prevent it stagnating. The current situation was a result of listening to feedback and adding some cheaper ticket options for mixed families.

Can you blame them for being low key on the Big Dipper derailment? No one was hurt, the fail safe did it's job and it looked gnarlier than it was. Youtubers and news sites made a big deal over the scenic railway derailment and then it was used as an excuse for Ticketmaster to close the UK's oldest coaster (and to no doubt let it rot so they can tear it down turn it into a venue).

Pleasure Beach gets slack because it's owners are up against it and they fail, there's not a good chance of anyone having the money to take it over. Despite them operating half of the Blackpool attractions now, can't see Merlin being keen to add another struggling UK park.

Alton Towers deserves the shit it's getting. Pathetic hours, no sign of any new E-ticket rides for the supposed best park in the country and insane price gouging for shit food (even Disney got their act together on that front). Meanwhile you've Paultons Park with a new, solid expansion, great ride ops and just generally being well run

A lot of parks kind of require renting a car once you get off the airport since they're kind of on the outskirts most of the time. I think the most common answer would put Cedar Point as the #1 coaster park in America, but there's other great choices too. Kings Island, Hersheypark, Busch Gardens Williamsburg, Dollywood, these are all really exceptional parks with very well-rounded coaster lineups.

Also the thing to keep in mind is that Halloween stuff at these amusement parks can be fun, but they're usually only open on weekends during this time, so they can get VERY crowded.

Dollywood is the exception though. They don't do haunted houses or anything but their fall festival is a great time to go to the park. A weekday is September will give you low lines and amazing atmosphere, especially at night.
>>
>>2901255
King's Island, Cedar Point, or Carowinds

Only downside to CP is you'll drive further from the airport, but if you fly into Cleveland it's not far. Detroit is another option, it's about a 2 hour drive to the park. You could fly into Cincy and do Kings Island+CP if you wanted to do both. I don't think you'll find a better one-two punch for coasters in the US than those two parks. You'll definitely want to budget 2 days at CP and perhaps 2 at KI as well, especially if you go in October.

Carowinds is a little more than 4 hours from Dollywood, but imo despite Dollywood being a very nice park their coaster lineup is on the small side compared to the others with more family-oriented rides than pure thrill rides. You might find it lacking compared to the others. Check RCBD.

The downside to going in October/Halloween is that parks get way more visitors since they're usually only running on weekends that late in the year. Lines will be longer, you might have to budget for a Fast Pass or whatever the park calls their line skipping system.
>>
>>2901255
Go to other parks mentioned first (Dollywood is probably the best park in the country) and then try Disney/Universal and compare the two. A lot of people start as coaster autists and then slowly turn into theming autists. Don't dismiss Disney without trying them at some point.

>SEETHING for being too poor to afford Disney
It's not a question of affordability, it's a matter of value. I like coasters so if I'm going to pay a lot of money for admission, I want to ride coasters for adults who aren't terrified of them.

That's all this boils down to. I would love it if Disney built a giga. They won't because they know the people they cater to are too short to ride or too much of a pussy to get on one. "Muh sightlines" is the popular cope for that if you want to disagree.

>No denial

>>
>>2901372
Intensity isn't the only reason why someone would be frightened of a ride, and that varies from person to person in the first place. Other factors like height, speed, reputation/word-of-mouth, even just the appearance of a ride come into play as to why someone would or would not get on one.
>>
>>2901353
The difference is when you go to Magic Mountain you’re only having fun the 20 or so minutes all day that you’re on a coaster. When you go to Universal you get to have fun the entire day.
>>
>>2901389
If you want to extrapolate that further, most of your day at any park is not spent on/in rides or attractions.
>>
>>2901396
I already did extrapolate that. At quality parks like Epic and Dollywood you can ride nothing and still have a fantastic day. Not the same for budget parks like Magic Mountain and SFOT where there’s almost nothing else to do.
>>
>>2901260
Idk about that, I don't really use AI and I would rather get a real opinion from people who have actually experienced these places.
>>2901261
>>2901283
Thanks for the advice. Cedar point definitely seems like the right choice based on what you guys are saying. I would consider doing King's Island too but idk if it makes sense to do 4 days and that kind of drive in addition to flying. I definitely would want to go when it's not as busy but if the fast pass significantly improves the experience I would do it. Like if I got to ride 2-3x as many rides it would be worth paying since I probably wouldn't be back for a long time. Is it generally worth doing that in your experience?

Also from what I saw online, the fast pass seems to not apply to Halloween stuff at Cedar point, is that pretty commonplace? If thats the case and these places are also only open on weekends leading to huge lines, I think I might want to avoid going in October unfortunately.
>>2901339
It's not that I dismiss them, I just don't have a particular interest in any of those IPs and it seems like you probably pay more for something that isn't as tailored to my interests (basically I want to ride as many insane roller coasters as I can in one trip). So I would rather try your suggestion when/if I have kids, or at least have someone else to go with, I think it would be a lot more worth it then.
>>
>>2901398
>I already did extrapolate that.
I extrapolated it further.
>>
>>2901399
Fast lane is definitely required at Cedar Point no matter what day you go on. Kings Island you can probably get on without it on weekdays but your day will still be better with it.

If coasters are what you’re targeting those are great choices (and I’d throw in Magic Mountain and Hersheypark as well), but for the best overall experience I’d recommend Busch Gardens Williamsburg, Dollywood and Silver Dollar City. Coaster collections not quite as impressive but the experience as a whole is better - more beauty, more soul, more shows, more theming.
>>

If you decide to fly to Cincinnati to hit KI, Holiday World is under 3.5 hours down the Interstate and they've got a small but good collection, it's not as pretty as BGW or Dollywood but it still gets rave reviews. KI to CP is closer to 4. Yeah, not ideal but worth considering given that all of those parks are rated highly by the public and enthusiasts, and Kings Island has almost as big a lineup of coasters as CP. Just spitballing because if I'm going through the hassle of flying and renting a car, I figure I might as well also hit parks that are nearby.

Alternate ideas are BGW and King Dominion, they're about an hour and a half apart and can be reached easily from Richmond. LA has Magic Mountain, Knott's, and Universal. Orlando offers Sea World and Universal, BGT is 2 hours down I-4. If you went to Hersheypark you could tack on Dorney, Knoebel's (both under 2 hours), and even Great Adventure.

Cedar Point doesn't seem to have off-days anymore, i.e. weekdays when the crowds are much thinner than the weekends. People say it's crowded just about every day there now. Kids are going back to school though, so maybe between now and the beginning of Haunt might be a decent time to go even if it's weekends only. Personally I don't bother going to any park in October, it's just more crowded than I prefer to deal with.

If you're waiting until next year to get to Cedar Point, look at what day they open for the 2027 season. They open much later in the spring than most other parks.
>>
>>2901399
Yeah Cedar Point is unlike a lot of regional parks in that it's always pretty busy. If you're going to Cedar Point you should definitely buy the Fast Lane. There's a lot of parks where you can avoid needing to pay for those passes, but Cedar Point isn't one of them. I also think it will be a plenty enjoyable experience if that's the only park you do for a trip. We enthusiasts are always wanting to put together road trip itineraries, but if you haven't even ridden any coasters in a while, Cedar Point will be plenty enough to blow your mind. I would suggest going in the middle of the week in May, which is a less busy time, but still buy Fast Lane because it's still busier than most amusement parks during the week.

If you were hoping to go to a park sooner than that, Dollywood during the week in September when they're doing their Harvest Festival is peak. You will not need a skip the line pass, crowds are super low. Dollywood doesn't have as many big coasters as Cedar Point but they have an extremely well rounded lineup, and the atmosphere is top notch. It's just a great place to be even if you weren't riding anything.

California Autopia probably safe because they're replacing the gas cars with electric ones, but no news on the Florida version lately.

WDW, to their credit, has been moving significantly faster when it comes to construction times since LL was introduced. They're still slow and all of the construction will take forever but compared to Tron and Guardians they're flying.

I'd take NPH over the rumor of Rogen himself playing Dreamfinder in his planned movie, but I still think the best celebrity stuntcast Dreamfinder option is Ewan McGregor.
>>
I felt bad about my planned European trip for next year that I'm not squeezing in Ride to Happiness, but I think I'm just going to have to make another trip specifically to Belgium later, especially since Walibi Belgium is getting their new RMC in 2028. We'll be hitting up six different parks so to complain would just be greedy. It just makes it easier to swallow that I'm missing out on such a well regarded coaster if I think about going to that country specifically and hitting up another new park as well.

If you fly into Philadelphia and rent a car, you are within an hours drove of Dorney Park and Great Adventure and 2 hours from Hershey Park. There are also several top-class haunted attractions in the same area on top of the in-park halloween events. If you want to spend time at one Park, you're better off going to Cedar Point or Dollywood, but if you want to hop around to several, Philly is a good option.

I feel like Journey Into Imagination being fixed is inevitable with the growing popularity of Figment, plus it is like the most easy win they could ever have. People would agree to eating shit if it meant they got the old version with the Dreamfinder back. However I think that's something they might keep in their back pocket for whenever they get shat on for some heinous controversial thing (although something as drastic as getting rid of the Rivers of America would've been it imo).

The first scene is the moon landing in July 1969.
That's a very weird place to BEGIN your robotic stage show about human progress.
Kinda far along the path, and (as we now know) it's only been downhill from there.
The whole show is just nostalgia bait for the boomers who were young enough to watch Neil Armstrong on TV.
Why do this? No idea. This version won't last a decade, after all, the oldest boomers will be 90 in 2035.
>>
>>2901568
It will last as long as they want it to. They know that no matter how much you seethe about the parks and attractions, you're not going to stop obsessing over and visiting their parks.

Oh shit I forgot D23 is happening next week.
Realistically I'm not expecting anything crazy, mostly updates on some of the vague stuff we've known about like more specific details on Villains Land, info on whatever is going into the theater in Monstropolis, the Spiderman rides in Shanghai and Hong Kong, etc. Maybe show off some animatronics for the Lion King water ride, stuff like that.
>>
>>2901540
It’s going to happen because after 25-30 years a ride starts becoming a liability with being outdated and making a lesser impression to guests unless it is a classic, and Imagination is clearly not. It is probably the worst rated ride at the resort, but two back to back redoes means it takes that amount of time for the investment return to reach its projection before more money is reinvested in another redo (unless a IP is huge and warrants earlier redos). Imagination is now at the age where it is due for a redo
The one thing is that the popularity surge ensures that a new version would keep the same theme (as it would be career killing to try and remove him) and not just change to an IP adaption like Inside Out that what planned at one point.
>>
>>2901589
Nemo is worse.
>>
>>2901589
The Inside Out thing was never happening, thankfully. They proposed the plans to Pete Docter and he asked why the fuck they would ever get rid of Figment there, turns out he's a huge fan himself.

In theory this is a big year (when it went annual it was implied they'd alternate between minor update years and big news).

Not saying these will happen but these are some of the things that either have a lot of rumours, they've been oddly quiet about or it's time for an update.

>Disneyland Paris Mandalorian and Star wars mini-land
>Disneyland Paris adventureland expansion (originally thought for Lion King)
>Disney Adventure World's final peak, probably Avatar due to leaked codename

>Disneyland California possible third gate or expansions for both parks
>Avatar replacement, thought to be Zootopia

>encanto ride stuff
>Cars ride stuff

>Disney Adventure World's final peak, probably Avatar due to leaked codename
>Avatar replacement, thought to be Zootopia
Why would they cancel the plans for one Avatar land (presumably because of worse box office results or disinterest in the general public), but then continue building it in another park? Seems odd to me, if they assume it won't be as successful as they hope and change course, that they would only halfway do it. Or was Avatar more popular in Europe for some reason?

August 10th is so close guys. It's sad that literal Dollywood is better at cleanliness than Disney. Walt has been rolling in his grave at what they've done to his park for years.

>if you haven't even ridden any coasters in a while, Cedar Point will be plenty enough to blow your mind
I was thinking that too. It's been around 9 years since I've ridden a coaster and definitely nothing close to as intense as the ones at Cedar Point.
>I would suggest going in the middle of the week in May, which is a less busy time
When I searched online I saw something about really bad mayflies, is that a reason why its less busy? Because honestly that would ruin the experience for me, I hate bugs haha. I'd take long lines over that for sure. And I'll definitely consider Dollywood in September, that sounds right up my alley.
>>
>>2901666
At most regional parks that start weekly operation around Memorial Day, the first few weeks are generally a less busy time, not really anything to do with bugs, it's just not everybody's summer break is in full swing yet. Bugs are definitely a thing a Cedar Point because it's right on the lake. In your case yeah it might be a good idea to look at when they'd have the least amount of bugs. Even if they're a little busier and Fast Lane is a little more expensive, you'd probably be happier.

>clone Avatar area for California
>clone Avatar area for Paris
>mini clone Star Wars area for Paris
I thought the idea is have different attractions to give people the incentive to visit each one. Whats the point going to all 3 resorts if the rides are the same?
>>
>>2901648
They'd better keep it a proper aquarium
>>
>>2901690
Avatar California won't be a clone and it'll be interesting to see what they do with Paris as there's a height limit.

Would be nice for Paris to get two unique e-tickets in a row though.
>>
>>2901690
Paris always had this problem. The parks weren't doing well, especially the Studios park, and their solution to add stuff to try and fix it was just copying stuff from the other parks on the cheap.
>Not enough people in Disneyland Paris? Quickly slap Buzz Lightyear in there, that'll hold them over for another two decades
>Also let's ruin our actually unique Space Mountain by slapping the same Star Wars theme on it, which is even worse here cause it completely clashes with the theming of the area
>Studios is fucked, quickly, add a worse version of Avenger's Campus and put in Webslingers
>Also lazily retheme Rock 'n Rollercoaster to make it worse
>Let's add a Frozen area, just copy the Hong Kong one except only build like half of it
>And put in the inferior Frozen ride despite the fact a newer, way better version already exists
So fucking stupid. Their original plan after Frozen was copying Galaxy's Edge, but again a smaller, worse version that wouldn't even have Rise of the Resistance. Thank god they finally figured out they need exclusive shit so they're adding Lion King. Similarly, according to the rumors the Star Wars area next to Discoveryland would be its own thing, with a completely unique bike speeder coaster. Let's hope they learned their lesson.
>>
>>2901594
They were strongly considering getting rid of him entirely in the 2010s. They had the Inside Out pitch (which Docter himself seemed to shut down) but also a Phineas and Ferb pitch and IIRC a Muppets one.
Think it took them a reminder of what happened last time to stall doing so and plans went elsewhere, then eventually the popcorn bucket happens and it becomes undoable overall because attempting to remove that level of money maker will get you fired when the shareholders yell at you like last time
>>
>>2901719
I think covid and Star Wars flopping elsewhere made them do an emergency rethink. Still don't know why they waited for Avengers to be finished before starting properly on Frozen though.

The park seems to be roughly where they want it, especially after Lion King and Up open, making it a genuine full day park for the first time. The financials indicated a significant increase in visitor numbers so they could be getting close to the 3rd gate requirement when Lion King opens.

Seems they've put the new hotels on hold after filling the space for them with solar panels but that could be temporary. They've just started building a new road which hints at them looking to boost traffic handling to where the 3rd gate would go.

Didn't the original contractor screw up big time? That was the idea I got. Perhaps they burned a few million that way before having to find another company to do it. Bros, I just had a brilliant idea. You know how people toss around the idea of Universal making a Great Movie Ride style attraction that takes you through scenes from Universal movies that used to have attractions in the park? They usually talk about Ghostbusters and Jaws and Back to the Future, but there used to be an Alfred Hitchcock attraction as well, and Universal does own the rights to many of his classic movies. Psycho would be the most popular one, but imagine a KUKA arm ride that takes you into the tower from Vertigo and then it points you straight down and you see the stairs physically stretch

Calling Mission: Space the most intense ride is pretty misleading. It just min-maxes pushing you into your seat.

The obvious, popular, simple, long-awaited, stress-free, unobstructive, heavily rumored slam dunk of redoing figment has like a 50% chance of finally dropping. Not that I'm confident in them specifically announcing it this year but because it seems less likely that they wait for the next parks expo to do it (and if they have any brains they will announce the refurb at a d23).
Personally I don't even care about Figment, I'm a zoomer so the ride was never good in my lifetime. Figment himself is an IP of his own now but ultimately it's an original IP attraction getting redone like fans have been begging so I'm interested if Imagineering is finally allowed to cook on something with no limits.

You can buy an annual pass to six flags with the change in your couch. People can afford Six Flags. But that’s part of the issue - Six Flags has such a poor offering that it has to give away entry and parking free, so it’s very hard for them to break even. Quite common for chains that loaded up on B&Ms.

The Bright Sun Travels guy went to Disneyland Paris and stayed at one of their hotels, and what I'm seeing in this video actually shocks me. Hard to argue with anything in that really, only thing I would say is that he's literally doing the vid right as they're starting a big renovation. Most of the hotels have seen big improvements since Disney took over, especially the New York one. The Sequia Lodge had similar maintenence issues but overall was a pretty comfy hotel before the refurb (and has the best buffet with game dishes and Raclette).

Newport Bay has always been a bit awkward, not really justifying its price tag. It's designed as a convention hotel which is why the Disney-ness is much lower key. One thing the video doesn't mentioned is that the extremely long corridors + hollow floorboards means you'll get a lot of noise from kids running down the hallways. I suspect a big reason for the low reviews in the food would be down to the menus being very fish focused which rarely goes down well with kids.

Most of the hotels were designed in the 90s and Eisner was focused on getting as many rooms as possible (they were massively over capacity) which is why they all kinda have small rooms and why the pricetag was "how nice the hotel exterior and how close it is to the park" determined the price rather than the facilities. They were allegedly building 2 new hotels, one budget, one luxury, possibly surrounding the third gate but they've just put in plans for a solar far in that area which means that won't happen any time soon.

And some less funny backstory (this was on Jim'll fix it)

Villains Land needs to be their Epic Universe beater.

Needs a dark ride on par with MoM or Monsters Unleashed and maybe an SFX coaster (or some completely new system). I think they're very limited on space for that though, possibly only space for one E-ticket. They should try to make another Fantasy land low footprint dark ride or two but figure out a way to get the capacity up.

Six Flags needs to split the chain in half and put Cedar Point, Kings Island, Canada’s Wonderland, Knott’s, Kings Dominion, Schliterbahn, Dorney and Carowinds into a separate company called Cedar Fair. The merged company is worth 1/4 of the combined pre merger value. CF wasn’t doing great but this merger is a death sentence for them and it’s negatively impacting Cedar Point. At the very least Cedar Point should spin off into its own entity separate from Six Flags. I know the merged company is basically Cedar Fair anyways but those legacy Six Flags parks are cursed. They’re going to go bankrupt and all these parks are going to become jewish land lease scams. The worst outcome. Sell the legacy Six Flags parks to SeaWorld for nothing, just exchange some debt

I fear that the Villains land maleficent coaster will be on the level of slinky dog in terms of theming, wait times, and thrill level. My only hope for an imagineering gem lies with the "secondary" ride that hasn't been revealed. There might be a well themed premium table service restaurant that is like a Villainous version of the one inside of Cinderella Castle. Moody dark atmosphere and a villain occasionally comes out to interact with tables. In fact I would almost guarantee that.

Dollywood Splash was like Old School Disney in that they had Frontier theming, everyone was friendly and happy, and the cleanliness was top notch. Lots of good seating for people to come and relax by the pool while the teenagers run around. The mountain views were also special. It was nice to see how they integrated the scenery and green into the park. The cup was $5 more than I usually pay and they started shutting down food at 5:30. I was starving.

>>

That sounds like headcanon. The real reason is likely because they want top notch theming and don’t want to even acknowledge that the Matterhorn is a roller coaster. They do this on Slinky Dog Dash too. My dad asked the operator how many trains they had running and she replied “we have four dogs.” Dogs, not trains, because you really are riding the dog from Toy Story.

Also Disney knows they had the first steel coaster. They don’t need the cargo shorts wearers of ACE telling them that.

funny how long its took for construction of this ride in California when the Orlando coaster is likely going to open by spring break 2027, including removal of HRRR. Much less time in production. Cant say its all because of some noise barriers. Id say Hollywood F&F was cursed from the start

Yeah with the swing launch, spike and transfer track I imagine there is more to go wrong at Orlando. I still think spring break 2027 is a realistic opening. It’s over 7 months away.

>>
>>2903065
>I am actually scared to go to parks too often to avoid getting too used to the forces.
This is crazy anon, just go and enjoy them while you can. Eventually age, your job, a family, and other obligations will creep into your life and you won't be able to attend parks as often as you wished you could.

In my 20s I had a season pass to a mid-sized park and went about every other day, I'd try to hit it at opening during the week, when almost no one was there. Rode coasters for a couple of hours, got my fill, and I headed out by lunchtime. I do not think you can get desensitized to them. I never did. They're still fun after the dozenth time and I didn't come close to a point where my enjoyment waned. Besides, the winter closure gives you a little reset.

Unironically don't worry about it. If it happens (I think it won't), you can deal with it then. I wish I could go back to living a few miles from a park and a job with hours that let me enjoy it. I'm about 2 hours from the nearest park now.
>>
>>2903071
>visiting every other day
>when almost no one is in the park
This is my dream. I'm not too big on coasters but I'd love to spend quality time riding and re-riding dark rides so I can autistically document every single little detail. Unfortunately I am married with young children so the soonest I can commit to wasting a month riding dark rides on end is 2043. Don't want to think about how many nice rides (or even whole theme parks) are going to be closed by then...

I've also heard good things about dark rides in Europe and Tokyo DIsney. But yeah, it's going to be a very long time before I can drop everything for a month and go full dark ride autismo. Maybe by then I'll have hoarded enough shekels to make my own dark ride.
>>
>>2903075
I did feel that. I think the problem might be is that I’ve ridden almost every elite American coaster (and will have ridden all of them by the end of next week) that I’m only impressed by the best now.

I also might be more of a themechad and a thoosie so mostly unthemed coasters only impress me if they’re elite.
>>
>>2903071
I think I'm going to start going more often. I only became an enthusiast more recently, but I live in a fantastic area. I'm not super close to anything, but I'm relatively close to a lot. I'm two hours away from Dollywood, three hours from Carowinds, five hours from Six Flags Over Georgia, four and a half hours from Kings Dominion, five hours from Busch Gardens Williamsburg, five hours from Kentucky Kingdom, five and a half hours from Kings Island, six hours from Holiday World, six hours from Kennywood, and I've only been to like half of those. My only issue is that I really hate long lines so I don't want to go on weekends, and I also usually have to take my PTO as an entire week, and not just a day here and there, so I have to take longer trips all at once typically rather than taking a trip for a few days. But maybe I'm going to have to start buying the fast lane, because I live near so many excellent parks and I do want to start taking better advantage of that.
>>
>>2903082
Fastlane is why I dread returning to Cedar Point. Haven't been in well a over a decade and even then during the week, lines weren't very short. As others have said, FL is a basic requirement there now even on weekdays. I've never used a line skipping system before, I view them as a ripoff cash extraction mechanism above all else. And I don't want to start using them, but it sounds like I'd have to at the Point. Still want to return though.
>>
>>2903083
Yeah Cedar Point intimidates me. For next year the all season Fast Lane add-on is $1,200 and they just closed the loophole where you couldn't buy an all season Fast Lane from a smaller park and use it on Cedar Point. Seems like they're trying to discourage too many people from using it, which is good. Still costs a ton. I don't know what they do to solve the problem of too many people in the park, since that's kind of what they want. It's a regional park that has become a destination park but is still operated like a regional park.
>>
>>2903058
Because they can't, because Disney got rid of the rule saying they can't de facto discriminate against people with visible tattoos.
>>
>>2903078
>tfw riding laff trakk for an hour straight
Feels good to not have a wife.
>>
>>2903082
All season fast lane will probably be $500 this upcoming year. That’ll help you with the six flags near you, especially KI on weekends
>>
>>2903084
I’m just gonna buy it per day for my next CP visits. I only went two days per year this year and that was plenty with FL.
>>
>>2903087
Alas, if I divorce and fork over child support, I'm still not going to be able to afford to live out my dark ride dreams with abandon. Better suck it up and stick it out. Who knows? Maybe there will be some more dark rides at the end of it! (Unlikely but I gotta have some hopium.)

I have Frontier Go Wild and HHN Frequent Fear so I’m trying to work out weekly notel trips for HHN. I also have UOAP so I can do Stay & Scream every time. I’ll pay for the hotel and fly back Thursday if I have to on any given week but I’d rather just boogie on outta there early every Wednesday after doing a handful of houses, so that extra hour makes a big difference.

I don't hate it, but I do find it largely pointless most of the time. It seems like every trackless ride in the US parks is 95% stuff that could be done with a track and 5% gimmick to justify being trackless. When a ride actually utilizes the system to its fullest like Hunny Hunt or Beauty and the Beast, it's pretty cool.

New for 2027 POV from Silver Dollar City:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uD3QFjI9nxU

This is Thunderation's replacement, made by Mack. And even from the rendering it looks like a worthy heir to one of the last, crazier Arrow mine trains. Two lifts, a station fly-through, a long enough tunnel with a dip in it. The 150' tall mine headgear was salvaged from an actual mine, and it's just there for theming. Looks really fun and I'm glad they're doing a like-for-like replacement of their mine train.

Disneycels can enjoy their tracked car ride that opens uhhh lol whenever

Looks fun, seems like there's a good chunk of sustained air/floater time. Ride experience will change massively from front to back though.
>>
>>2903482
I like that because Thunderation probably gave a lot of riders more than they bargained for. Looks like a dinky mine train with shallow drops, but it's forceful in its own way lol. I'm hopeful their new coaster will feel that way too, and now with a generous 39" minimum height
>>
>>2903289
Nope they're using Zeirer's ride system https://www.zierer.com/en/products/advanced-dark-rides-1/model-l

Confirmed by shipping records to Florida. Tracked Spider-man style. Odd they're not using the tech from Peter-pan or Avengers. Hopefully it isn't a shooting ride...
>>
>>2903470
Dollywood is only slightly better overall. SDC is superior in caves, crowds, comedy, and arguably has the best coaster in Time Traveler (though I prefer Blazing Fury myself).
>>
>>2903486
It’s a good ride from middle seats but the front or the back of the car is rough. Sad they’re getting rid of it, but I think it being the best mine train sealed its fate. The smaller mine trains get to stick around because even though they can be rough, they’re slow enough that it doesn’t matter.

Cedar Point announced higher season pass prices for next year - the Prestige Pass jumped from $199 to $279. But the big news is that season-long Fastlane is now $1,999. I don't know what it was before but the hope is the price increase will lower Fastlane usage to alleviate clogging lines up. It looks like that was a major problem this season and last at CP.

Cedar Point also said they closed the loophole that was allowing people to buy less expensive season passes/season Fastlane from cheaper outlying SF parks then using them at Cedar Point.

>>
>>2903607
You could tell by the pricing they’ve been seething about it all year. All season fast lane for CP was $950 while all season fast lane for all parks was $999.

And yes, some parks put the all season all parks fast lane on sale for $500. I believe it was Carowinds and SFOG. People from Atlanta and Charlotte probably made up a small portion of the fast lane users at CP, but I could see a ton of Ohio residents getting a gold pass to Carowinds, buying the all season fast lane, flying to Charlotte, activating the pass, riding Fury a bunch of times, going home, and visiting CP every weekend.

What’s the real story with the Yeti anyways? So many people claim structural integrity and how they would have to remove part of the mountain to fix it. Meanwhile in reality it’s near ground level and there is a door behind it that they’ve pulled it out into to clean the hair and what not. I have seen a backstage picture that had an X on the ground saying yeti zone. Whatever that meant. Seems to me the only thing wrong with the fixing the Yeti was the lack of budget

Wasn't expecting the first wild moose to be a shuttle coaster.

The mechanism that moves the yeti is the problem and its massive. If the foundation issue was true they would have to find a way to dismantle what is probably a 3 story contraption to re-do the floor. The thing generates a lot of force so there mightve been issues with it damaging other parts of the structure.

I’m pretty sure the Yeti structure is separate from both the coaster and mountain. They’re 3 separate structures by design.

I think the entire story was never fully disclosed and what the company has told people over the years is just the part they want us to know. Not that it's a supreme secret of state, just that parks normally hold back a lot of information even when it feels like they've told you a lot. It would not surprise me if the actual truth is more convoluted than the public narrative is.

Combine that with Disneytards speculating and "factualizing" the same way thoosies do; I would take anything I've heard about the thing with a grain of Himalayan salt.

They always have the budget for it. They could have done it at any point since 2006.
What does not matter is what was the fault with the Yeti itself, outside that they need to work inside the superstructure and potentially take parts of it down to fix it. What matters is that no one wanted to accept blame and bite the bullet to fix it. Imagineering did not want to admit they made a faulty animatronic, park officials did not want to admit their maintenance of it failed, and main leadership did not want to admit any fault publicly over this which they would have by having to take the ride down to fix the costly big animatronic that blew it after 6 months
It took someone far away from this drama becoming CEO to tell them to stop it and get it fixed, and only because it blossomed so hard into this community meme that it has become a good PR move to actually do it

Why are there so many nonwhites & methies in Tampa
>>

Yeah. Is it even a wild moose? It’s a family ibox shuttle coaster. Looks like they built a shuttle prototype of the moose and sold it to Lost Island

How so? Local here who had it as my only visited theme park until this very year.

I kinda dislike this trend of family shuttles with no outstanding showpiece elements. This is probably going to be fun enough and it's going to suprise families with the strong airtime but outside of the ends it's going through the motions a bit. So many of these coasters are like the quick money earners you build in RCT to cheese it.

Merlin to give them some (rare) credit have built two shuttle coasters and both of them avoid this. Minifigure Speedway is a racing coaster with neatly designed interactions, Jumanji is a wing coaster with babbies first inversion and a cool centrepiece.

The people in charge now don't actively hate the parks so that's good I guess. D23 kind of sucked but there wasn't anything that was actively offensive like we've seen in the past. I think Cars in frontierland wouldn't have happened under Josh and I get the distinct impression that Avatar in DCA is going to get cancelled (which is good because it's retarded and whatever they want to put there should be moved to AK). Seems they've finally realized that if they put any effort into the parks at all they'll continue to print money with them and the parks contribute way more good will for the company than any of their gay movies do. I expect the parks to be in a way better spot in 10 years than they ever were under Iger.

At this point I think "Wild Moose" is just the general term RMC uses for any family ibox. Weird to see an RMC coaster with normal supports though

Not actually sure how many natives we have that hangs in the cities, now that I think about it. But the rest is true.
