The show definitely leans towards being cruel to men but in its defense, the women weren't ever evil. They were all dragged to the villain's side by threat of death. Sage's whole arc from the moment she was introduced was about constructing scenarios that would allow her to slip away from HL and Ashley was just trying to survive.

Both characters, when given the opportunity to do good and in a way where HL either wouldn't find out or would be unable to get to them chose to do good. The same goes for Starlight, Maeve and Firecracker never had a clear way to escape so she died

And the same thing that happened to Hughie in S1 is gonna happen to someone else. Of course it doesn't matter to him now though.
