>The greatest action war movie of all time was made by a Russian oligarch who tried to coup the Russian government using his own private military company
Shit is genuinely fucking crazy, you would never see shit like this in the US. It would be like if Blackwater PMC made non-state authorized movie about the realities of the war in Iraq, then a year later their leader tried to march troops into DC to coup Bush Jr.

Huh?

I still don't believe that was a real coup attempt. You don't try to coup a guy who can just fly away in a helicopter without some type of thing to deny his ability to fly away in a helicopter.

I think it was a publicity stunt like the one in turkey

nice trips
There was a "coup" against Erdogan in Turkey 10 years ago (holy shit where does time go), people blamed it on some dissident imam named Gulen. Basically the whole thing seemed staged because the "coup" forces had ample opportunities to you know, carry out the coup and didn't do anything. Allegedly a fighter jet belonging to the coup forces was on the ass of the presidential plane while Erdogan was onboard, and it didn't do anything.

Increase approval rating among the population and give you a reason to imprison or execute political enemies.

I think this is correct, also I don’t think Yevgeny Prigozhin planned on actually overthrowing the Russian government, I think he just wanted a show of force but didn’t think it all the way through. Then the FSB captured his family and forced him to “make a deal” with Putin in exchange for him and his family’s lives but in classic Russian fashion Putin simply had him killed.

Indeed, Putin had no saying in his role of his passing. Imagine CIA, FBI, NSA, and DOE as one single body. Prigizhin crossed their red line and hardliners wanted him dead. But... I've said enough.

Movie complete. Extremely good. Thanks for the recommendation.

I found out I'm related to Yevgeny Prigozhin a few years ago.

Remember Erdogan broadcasting from the plane and it looked like a closet. I also remember helicopters firing on troops. Lots of low ranking soldiers got punished, publicly beaten and ostracized for it too, even though they were just following orders and nothing happened. Turkey is a shithole.

Turkey is still a great place to keep missiles so they'll be in range of Russia should the worst happen. Putting missiles there is part of what triggered the Cuban Missile Crisis.

I love how much they show off real combat vehicles in Russian movies.
I'm lucky to get one still shot of a stationary artillery piece in the dark that isn't full CGI.
