Suggest me documentaries about weird and interesting individuals. Pic related is my favorite.

These guys were pretty wacky
>>220701787If Crumb was a millenial or zoomer he'd have his own KiwiFarms thread and kiwiniggers and sharteens would be raiding his socials accusing him of being a pedo groomer or something (his brother was technically a pedo).
Pretty much all of Louis Theroux's work is good for this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Px-4j4AcrxI
>>220701787This one was very good.
The show How To With John Wilson. He’s said that the Crumb doc is a huge inspiration to him

>>220701787I suggest Grey Gardens. But go in not knowing anything about who these two people are at all, or about the fandom. I went in blind and it was so fun to start piecing together who they were after the big names started getting dropped. It’s fascinating because you keep wondering how and why they’re fucking like that now, why they’re still living together, why they’re so dirty and gross.
This is the movie that made me realize someone isn’t the villain simply because the filmmakers go out of their way to frame it that way.
>>220702597oh shut the fuck up, billy reveled in being the villain
the feature film directed by Zemeckis and starring Steve Carell is garbage, but the docu is good

>Beyond The Mat>Pumping Iron>Bigger, Stronger, Faster
>>220702522I second this. also, Tickled, Giuseppe Makes a Movie, and Fursonas
>>220702597Steve seemed like a lousy husband even with how they filmed him as the hero
>>220701787Guy sets out to do a documentary on gay fetish porn and falls down a rabbit hole of faked identities, people in the highest halls of power and threats both legal and violent to keep him from digging deeper
>>220702488Great pick, I watch it every couple of years
You are now reading this post in my voice. But why? Because many of my documentaries feature fascinating individuals. The famous penguin wandering into the ice is in the same film as the man who worked as a welder in Antarctica and claimed to be descended from Native American royalty. I interview death row inmates, rock climbers, retards and freaks of all shapes and sizes, from birth defects to people who are so stupid they think they can befriend grizzly bears. Humanity is colorful and rich in diversity beyond simple ethnic differences. Enter the world of my documentaries.
>>220702901the biggest weirdo in Herzog's documentaries is probably still Kinski

It's about a blind man trying to direct his own sci-fi film. You watch the whole thing expecting the end result to be some inspiring "look at the amazing piece of art he made despite his limitations" thing, but it ends up being completely incomprehensible garbage like you would expect from a blind man.
>>220702901A buddy of mine met Herzog via his work, at some point my buddy was sitting around scrolling on his phone and Herzog told him>Iz the man controlling the machine or iz the machine controlling the man
>>220703418Does that even fit "weird and interesting"? Looks more like "fat and submissive"
>>220703725he's definitely weird, and I find it interesting
>>220701787Carts of Darkness, a classic
Shut Up, Little Man is a great one
>>220702465I like the Tetris autists documentary more
>>220703219the fuck? Crumb is talked about by everyone who talks about "underground comics" or 60's/70s comics at least in my country and I doubt he isn't that unknown in US either, his comics being made into films. Filth or not, he has been talked about online before and time before internet really existed
>>220703683I laughed.
>>220702901Herzog should do a doc where he just stands at a podium and reads the backs of shampoo bottles and cereal boxes for two and a half hours with occasional philosophical interludes.>if our children can see how ze swirled sugary goodness of cinnamon toast crunch can help them start zheir day as part of a balanced breakfast, maybe zhey can one day see how to mend ze fissures in our society…

Being Napoleon, a doc about historical re-enactors and it follows the two main candidates to play Napoleon in the reenactment on the 200th anniversary of Waterloohttps://www.imdb.com/title/tt8841814/The Man Who Would Be Polka King follows a man who is really crazy about Polka, but he also goes to jail for fraud. It ended up being turned in to a movie with Jack Black, but I've not seen that movie. The documentary is good though.

>>220701787that type of doc is Errol Morris's bread and butter
>>220702597But he literally fucking cheating and got favoritism. There were rules about how you can record and submit a score and he fucking ignored them because he's Billy Mitchell. Doesn't even matter because some Chink American doctor ended up beating both their scores completely.
>>220710230just started this doc, I love this guy even the way he acts and sounds, he seems to love life, fascinating he moved and retired in Kansas City, he must've started hating NYC
>>220701787Artist related, In The Realms of the Unreal. It feels like posthumous wank over janitor-cum-artist once his weird writings and illustrations were discovered; but it's an interesting artifact nonetheless.
You should watch Dancing Outlaw. It’s a PBS documentary about Jesco White, a guy from West Virginia who sniffs glue, gets into fights with his wife, gets into trouble with the law, and tap dances.
>>220707973That one was boring. The weird dickhead was way less mysterious and interesting than he tried to present himself as and even the director was getting visibly frustrated at how directionless it all was by the halfway point.
>>220712607Sounds like literally me
American Movie, a 1999 documentary about a guy trying to make a horror film (whose one-word title he can't even pronounce correctly), and eventually become a professional filmmaker. The doc is a cult fave and more well known than the actual movie that was being filmed, and it's not even close.
