I like it because animation can be a highly creative medium and Japan tends to be a lot less burdened by explicitly toeing age restrictions or demographics than the West is. Streaming has done a better job at this in recent years by allowing the production of animated shows that aren't fighting for slots in broadcast at least. But anime manages to be a lot more flexible with its genres still.With that said, the majority of anime is trash produced for the worst humans imaginable and I actively judge a lot of people based on what shows they watch.
